Dawson captures title from
Adamek

Chad Dawson was masterful
in defeating Tomasz Adamek to win the WBC light
heavyweight title Saturday night at The Silver
Spur Arena in Kissimmee, Florida.
Dawson, 175 lbs of New Haven,
CT started the fight quickly by landing some
blistering straight lefts from the get go. The
first part of the fight was a rout as the hand
speed of Dawson was too much for Adamek Dawson
continued to mix up the assault by mixing in
hard right to the body in his multi punch combinations.
In round seven. Dawson landed
a straight left that floored Adamek. Adamek
protested mildly by referee Jorge Alonso scored
the knockdown. Dawson punctuated the round with
a good straight left that rocked Adamek. Rounds
nine and ten were more of the same for Dawson
by landing multi punch barrages that focused
on the body.
the fight turned dramatic
in round ten as Adamak landed a short right
hand that sent Dawson to the canvas. For a brief
moment it seemed that Adamek could get back
in the fight but Dawson's hand speed was the
big difference as he won by scores of 118-108,
117-109 and 116-110.

and has a record of 23-0. Adamek, 174 lbs of
Jersey City, NJ by way of Zywiec, Poland loses
for the first time and is 31-1.
IBF lightweight champ, Jesus
Chavez was making his first start in seventeen
months as he took on interim champ Julio Diaz.
The first two rounds saw
Diaz box enough to win the rounds. At the beginning
of round three, Chavez threw an awkward punch
and went down in a heap. Referee Frank Santore
counted Chavez out despite not being punched.
Chavez could not get up due to a knee injury
and Diaz is the undisputed IBF champ.
The end came at 22 seconds
for Diaz, 135 lbs of Conchella, California who
is now 34-3 with 25 knockouts. Chavez is 43-4.
In a third world title bout,
Cory Spinks, 153 3/4 lbs of St. Louis made the
first defense of his IBF jr. middleweight belt
with an easy unanimous decision over Rodney
Jones.
Scores were 120-108, 120-108
and 118-109 for Spinks who is now 36-3. Jones
falls to 37-4-1
