Anacondas and Sabres win in IFL action

By Gary Herman and Erik Sommers (ringside)

The Los Angeles Anacondas defeated the San Jose Razorclaws by a score of 5-0, and the Tokyo Sabres beat the Southern California Condors by a 3 - 2 margin. Both teams are undefeated at 2-0.

Earlier in the week, the Anacondas announced that Shawn Tompkins would take over the coaching duties from Bas Rutten. Rutten moved into the position of lead color commentator as well as good-will ambassador for the company.

The change in coaching did not affect the Anacondas on the mat as they swept the Frank Shamrock coached Razorclaws.

Attendance for the event at Los Angeles Forum (former home of the LA Lakers) was estimated at just over 4,000 fans.

Among the crowd watching the fights were Dan Henderson, Royce Gracie, Josh Barnett, Joe Rogan, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, BJ Penn, Kevin Randleman, Kendall Grove, and Tyson Griffin.

Jeremy Williams was victorious over Kazuhiro Hamanaka by TKO victory in the first period. Williams quickly locked in a triangle choke to secure the victory. Sabres 2 Condors 1.

Vladimir Matyushenko defeated Justin Levens by KO in round one. Matyushenko got Levens to the mat and began to unload in the “ground and pound” position when the referee stepped in to stop the fight. Sabres 3 Condors 1.
