Early Results from New York City

Miguel Cotto scored a unanimous decison over Shane Mosley in a great fight to retain the WBA Welterweight title at Madison square Garden.

Cotto pressed the action the first half of the fight he landed flurries with hands. Mosley seemed to look tired facially in the second half of the fight but he came back by backing Cotto up over the last few rounds. There were alot of action packed rounds and the scores were 116-113, 115-113 and 115-113 for Cotto who is now 31-0. Mosley is now 44-5

Antonio maragrito rebounded from losing his title by anhilating Golden Johnson in just 2:38 of round one of a scheduled twelve round Welterweight bout.

Margarito was relentless in landing huge punches which included three massive uppercuts that Johnson down three times. The last was a huge left uppercut to the body.

Margarito now looks ro regain a world title with a record of 35-5 with twenty-five stoppages. Johnson is now 25-9-3.

Joel Casamayor survived a first round knockdown to retain his WBC "Interim" and RING Magazine lightweight titke with a split decision over Jose Armando Santa Cruz.

Santa Cruz scored the knockdown from a little uppercut and Casamayor was noty very aggressive but still got the nods from the judges by scores of 114-113 twice while Santa Cruz deservdly won a third card by score of 114-113.

With the win, Casamayor is now 35-3-1. Santa Cruz is now 25-3

Victor Ortiz need just 107 seconds to dispose of former world champion, Carlos Maussa in a scheduled ten round Jr. Welterweight bout.

Ortiz landed a hrd left that drove Maussa down for the ten count midway through the first round.

Ortiz,141 1/2 lbs of Oxnard, California is now 20-1-1, 15 knockouts. Maussa, 141 1/2 lbs of columbia is now 19-5.

Michael Anderson made a sucsessful pro debut by winning a unanimous decision over Olade Thomas in a four round Welterweight bout.

Scores were 40-36 on two cards while a third card read 39-39. Anderson, 147 lbs of New Jersey is 1-0. Thomas, 150 lbs of Brooklyn is now 1-3

Billy Dib remained undefeated despite being cut over his right eye with a unanimous decision over Rogers Mtagwa in a eight round featherweight fight.

Scores were 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73 for Dib, 128 lbs of Sydney, Austrailia who is now 17-0. Mtagwa, 127 1/2 lbs of Philadelphia is now 24-12-2.

Michael Farragon made a sucsessful pro debut with a unanimous decision over Javier Garcia in a four round Jr. Welterweight bout.

Scores were 39-37 on all cards for Farragon, 136.75 lbs of Schenectady, New York. Garcia, 136.75 lbs of Caguas, Puerto Rico is now 2-2.

Jesus Rojas battered Carlos Diaz and stopped Diaz at 2:12 of the sixth and final round of a Jr.Featherweight bout.

Rojas, 122 lbs of Caguas, Puerto Rico is now 10-0 with eight stoppages. Diaz, 122 lbs of Tampa, Florida is now 9-11-4.

Impressive prospect, Ronny Vargas stopped Bryan Mullis just 50 seconds into round two of a scheduled four round Jr. Middleweight bout.

Vargas, 152 lbs of Bronx, new York is now 4-0 with three knockouts. Mullis, 150.75 lbs of Mt. holly, North carolina is now 4-2-1.
