on Hold
By Mario Ortega Jr.
Sources told 15rounds.com
late last night that IBF Light Flyweight Champion
Ulises Solis (26-1-2, 20 KOs) of Guadalajara,
Mexico fell ill and has pulled out of his scheduled
title defense against Glenn Donaire (17-3-1,
9 KOs) of San Leandro, California. The bout
was slated to be the main supporting bout on
the Top Rank PPV from Aguascalientes, Mexico
on May 17th. Jorge Arce (48-4-1, 37 KOs) of
Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico takes on Devid Lookmahanak
(18-1, 9 KOs) of Thailand in the twelve-round
WBC Super Flyweight eliminator main event.
Donaire was the third or
fourth choice of opponent for the ill-fated
title bout. Original opponent, Juanito Rubillar
pulled out to pursue a WBC eliminator instead.
Second selected opponent Denver Cuello was not
approved for the title defense by the IBF. Finally,
about two weeks before the scheduled card, Donaire
took the short notice offer to fight for the
title. Reports out of Mexico indicate Solis
was suffering from pneumonia, and thus was not
in condition to compete. Reports out of Mexico
