Arnaoutis decisions Tyner
in AC
By Marc Abrams
"Mighty" Mike Arnaoutis
scored a unanimous decision over Lanardo Tyner
to retain his USBA Jr. Welterweight title at
Bally's Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City,
New Jersey.
Tyner actually did well early
as he tried to rush Arnaoutis in an effort to
get inside of Arnaoutis. In round two, Tyner
sent Arnaoutis back with a big left. Arnaoutis
got back to boxing and using his legs as he
was effective with the jab and shots to the
body. The middle rounds saw Arnaoutis land an
assortment of punches as he did not let Tyner
get into any type of rhythm.
Arnaoutis had a good round
seven as he punished Tyner on the ropes with
head and body shots. Despite having a cut under
his right eye, which was noticeable in round
eight, Arnaoutis used his experience of going
the distance with a higher level of competition
to help him solidify the late round and Tyner
wasn't really a factor to get back into the
fight.
Arnaoutis, 139 1/2 lbs of
Atlantic City via Greece won by scores of 118-110,
118-110 and 116-112 to raise his record to 19-2-1.
Tyner, 139 1/2 lbs of Detroit suffers his first
defeat after nineteen straight wins.
Former U.S. Olympian Devin
Vargas made short work of Dave Brunelli in a
scheduled eight round Heavyweight bout.
Vargas landed a big overhand
right that was followed by a huge left hook
that sent Brunelli down just over minute in.
Vargas then landed a left hook that was followe
by a booming roundhouse right that sent Brunelli
down for a second time. Referee Harvey Dock
stopped the bout immediately just ninety-one
seconds into the bout.
Vargas, 226 lbs of Toledo,
Ohio is now 16-0 with seven knockouts. Brunelli,
231 1/2 lbs of Philadelphia is 8-4.
Good looking eighteen year
old Raymond Serrano dropped overmatch Charles
Wade twice in scoring a first round stoppage.
Serrano scored the first
knockdown on a left hook to the head. Wade went
down for a second time from a little right to
the body and referee Steve Smoger stopped the
fight at the 1:46 mark of the opening frame.

lbs of Philadelphia is now 4-6
Patrick Majewski shook off
a second round knockdown and a cut under his
right eye to eek out a unanimous decision over
Ariel Espanial in a four round middleweight
fight.
Espinal landed a big overhand
right that sent Majewski down in round two.
Majewski took a few more shots but fought back
to make the round competitive.
Majewski fought very well
in an exciting last two rounds as he used his
height to score with combinations. In the final
round, Majewski suffered a cut under his right
eye but he fought very well and took the round
which was the difference in the scores as they
all red 38-37 in favor of Majewski.
Majewski, 161 lbs of Atlantic
City is now 8-0. Espinal, 161 3/4 lbs of Brooklyn,
New York is 6-3-2.
