For years Arne K Lang, host
of the famous Stardust Line gaming show on radio
KDWN 720 am, covered the Las Vegas boxing beat
and filed away every note about each event he
covered. He put together a draft of boxing stories
for his book 'American PrizeFighting,' which
was initially edited by Top Rank matchmaker
Bruce Trampler. Finally, after years of work,
Arne's book is published. One of his first copies,
with a handwritten thank you note, went to Bruce.
The book is a treasure, starting with boxing
in pre-1800s and working its way to the huge
fights in Las Vegas. Arne noted the 1996 'Ultimate
Glory' mega fight between Oscar De La Hoya and
Julio Cesar Chavez was "....the last major
outdoor fight in Las Vegas." Caesars Palace
hosted. The temperature at the first fight was
over 100 degrees.
