After the disappointment of seeing what should have been his first fight fall through on the last Prospect Boxing card in March at the Ravenscraig Sports Facility, when his scheduled opponent pulled out with a few days notice, Alex Montgomery will finally get the chance to lace up his gloves as a professional when he takes on Dean Walker on May 24th as he headlines “The Ackman Cometh” at Cleland Miners Club.
Discussing the late call off, the Motherwell fighter remains optimistic “It was a frustrating situation to be in, but it can happen in Boxing so you just have to suck it up. It was good to have the training camp and put myself into it, but not to fight on the Ravenscraig card it wasn’t the best situation to be in. I am looking forward to competing on May 24th, and I have kept myself in good shape and ticking over.
Currently scheduled to take on Dean Walker, the 30 year old admits to be excited to be taking on the Sheffield man “I have seen him fight once or twice, and he has some good names on his record, including Paul Smith and Kenny Anderson amongst others. So it will be a good opportunity for me and my team to see how I can perform against a more experienced fighter.
After the scale of the last Prospect Boxing show, promoter Paul Graham is looking forward to trying something different “The ‘Steel Men’ show was a great success, and the feedback we had was brilliant – however in the run up to it was a chaotic with me burning the midnight oil! This time I am looking forward to running a show but we are trying to do it differently. As well as the three fights, were also including a few singers on the night as well as bit of food. We are working on getting a comedians and hopefully should be announced in the next few weeks.
He adds “The date we have picked is the start of May bank holiday weekend, its a big sporting weekend if you factoring in the Champions League and Scottish Cup finals, as well as the Froch v Kessler rematch and what better way to start it than with a night at the boxing ?
