(San Diego) – The first time the California State super featherweight title was contested it was back in 1933 when Eddie Shea stopped Chalky Wright in the first round at the Olympic Auditorium in downtown Los Angeles. Since then the likes of Jorge Ramos, Alberto Reyes and Juan Escobar held it against their waist in the ’70s, Richard Savala, Refugio Rojas, Greg Puente and the late great Genaro “Chicanito” Hernandez held it in the ’80s, Ben Lopez ruled it in the ’90s before Isagani Pumar took it over. Juaquin Gallardo of Oakland was the last man to hold it by taking a unanimous decision over Luis Alfonso Lizarraga in Fresno.
Next Friday, July 25th, it will be the turn of Vista’s won Aaron “Gavilan” Gracia (14-3-2, 4KOs), born and raised in San Diego. The task won’t be easy since he will be facing hungry Tijuana tough guy Daniel “Huracan” Ramirez (10-1, 4KO), fighting out of Los Angeles, who is ready to bring on a storm in the scheduled eight round championship bout.
The bout will be the main event of the latest edition of “San Diego Fights: Border Wars II” presented by California Hall of Fame promoter Bobby D. Presents at the undisputed home for San Diego boxing, the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
