What’s in a name? Quite a bit, when you consider how much self promotion is involved in the sport of boxing.
Throughout the sport’s rich history, nicknames and handles have become an integral part of a prizefighter’s connection to his most avid supporters and die-hard fans. Fighters like “Iron” Mike Tyson, Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield, “The Golden Boy” Oscar De La Hoya, “Sugar” Ray Robinson and most recently Saul “Canelo” Alvarez have each made their mark in the sweet science, and their adopted labels have become synonymous with their respective careers.
With less than a month remaining until his long awaited home coming, undefeated and highly touted Super Bantamweight prospect Adam Lopez (8-0, 3 KOs) is asking the great boxing fans to come up with a fight “nickname” for his TMB Entertainment debut on August 30th.
“I’m trying to find a boxing nickname before the event at Wolf Stadium on August 30th,” admits the 23 year old San Antonio native. “Unfortunately, I was born with a name that really doesn’t fit any classic boxing names. So I’m relying on everyone to come up with a nickname to wear on my robe and boxing trunks on fight night.”
The explosive counter puncher is searching for a ring moniker that suits his fight style.
“I’m willing to listen to any suggestions at this point,” insists Adam Lopez. “We’ve talked about ‘Mantequilla’ Lopez, ‘The Alamo City Assassin’ and ‘The Answer’, but we haven’t really decided on anything. I know that the fight fans can be a lot more creative than myself.”
The Alamo City banger is genuinely serious about the issue, and feels that a fitting ring handle is important to his professional fight career. The talented young fighter is willing to give the eventual winner two special VIP tickets to his August 30th bout at Nelson Wolff Stadium in San Antonio, Texas.
Adam will announce his selection on Saturday, August 23rd, at TMB Entertainment’s final press conference, which is slated to take place at “Copa Ultra Lounge and Grill” on Walzem Rd. at 3p.m.
Please send your suggestions, along with your personal contact information, to TMBoxing1@gmail.com for your chance to attend “Battle at the Ballpark” on August 30th, and forever become an integral part of Adam Lopez’s promising fight career.
