STEPHEN FULTON JR. AND RA’EESE ALEEM LAS VEGAS MEDIA ROUNDTABLE QUOTES

LAS VEGAS – November 22, 2021 – Undefeated WBO 122-pound world champion Stephen Fulton Jr. and unbeaten top contender Ra’eese Aleem previewed their respective showdowns during a Las Vegas media roundtable on Saturday, before they enter the ring in separate attractions live on SHOWTIME this Saturday, November 27 in a Premier Boxing Champions event from Dolby Live at Park MGM in Las Vegas.

Fulton will square off against WBC Super Bantamweight World Champion Brandon Figueroa in the main event, while Aleem battles Mexico’s Eduardo Báez in the co-main event of the telecast, which begins at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased at ticketmaster.com.

Here is what Fulton and Aleem, who are both training in Las Vegas for Saturday’s matchups, had to say at the media roundtable this past weekend:

STEPHEN FULTON JR.

“When I fought out in Nevada during the amateurs, I knew I would be back here fighting in Las Vegas one day as a pro. This has a totally different feel to it but I’m just focused on getting the job done and winning.

“I feel like this is what I’m supposed to be doing right now. I’m here for a reason. I’m not going to let the bright lights get to me. I was made for this and I take that mindset into the ring.

“Once I turned pro, I was on the path to becoming world champion. I’ve won a world title in the division I turned pro in, and now I’m unifying in my first fight as champion. I want to keep pushing forward and become undisputed at this weight class.

“My ability to adjust and outthink Figueroa is going to be the difference. That’s not to mention my speed and underrated power. I know Figueroa is going to throw a lot of punches, but I’m going to make him miss and capitalize on his mistakes.

“Everyone has a different path and for me that’s been taking dangerous fights against undefeated opponents. That’s made me a better fighter. Maybe I shouldn’t have taken some of those fights, but now I’ve got this resume that can stack up against anybody.”

RA’EESE ALEEM

“I’m extremely excited to be back doing what I love to do and to be fighting on a big SHOWTIME card. I’ve been getting great sparring out here in Las Vegas and I’m absolutely ready for Saturday.

“I’ve been working on really taking my time in the ring. Even if I’m being aggressive, I’m still taking my time while doing that. If I had taken my time against Vic Pasillas in my last fight, I would have stopped him in the sixth round. I was pushing the pace when I didn’t have to.

“I would love to fight Stephen Fulton. I believe that I’m the best in the division and some people think that he’s the best. If he wins this fight and I win Saturday, that’s the fight I want next. I’m ready to make it happen.

“I just have to keep winning and make big statements in every fight. I’m going to keep earning more recognition. I’m just starting to show people who I really am and I can’t let up.”

KO of weekend delivered by Irish light heavyweight prospect Tommy “The Kid” O’Toole

BOSTON (November 22, 2021) – Irish light heavyweight prospect Tommy “The Kid” O’Toole delivered the most devastating knockout from this past weekend in only his second pro fight, when he put Mark Malone (1-1) to sleep midway through the opening round, fighting on the Andrade-Quigley undercard of Matchroom Boxing’s high-profile event streamed live on DAZN from SHNU Arena in Manchester New Hampshire.

“It was unbelievable fighting in such a big arena with all those fans,” O’Toole spoke about the overall experience of fighting on a major card. Boston’s like a second home for any Irish fighter, especially one from Connemara, because the people from my town are so supportive.”

O’Toole, who is managed by Ryan Roach’s Fighter Locker, had a fellow Connemara fighter in his corner, cut-man Sean Mannion, who lived and fought out of Boston. Mannion (42-14-1, 13 KOs – 1978-93) gained the utmost respect of boxing fans in Ireland and Boston for his toughness, especially after going 15 hard rounds with future Hall of Famer Mike “The Bodysnatcher” McCallum for the vacant World Boxing Association Super Welterweight World title.

The 23-year-old O’Toole (2-0, 2 KOs), fighting out of Galway, Ireland, had a great opportunity to showcase his skills on a worldwide platform and he took full advantage, destroying Malone with powerhouse left hooks. “The Kid” even missed his graduation from Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, held the same day as his fight.

“It was 100-percent okay missing my graduation,” O’Toole said. “I still got my degree and it’s what matters.”

The end of the O’Toole-Malone fight ended abruptly as hurt Malone with a left hook and soon afterwards closed the show with the same punch. There was great concern for Malone, who was out cold before he hit the mat, as he lay there being attended to by the ringside physician.

“I hit him with the first left hook and his knees wobbled,” O’Toole described the action. “I hit him with a good shot, but I didn’t want to get too excited. I knew then that I was going to take him out. I set-up another left hook and I knew he was knocked out.

“I got a little nervous because the referee was counting. I thought he should be getting the doctor in the ring. The fight wasn’t going to continue.”

O’Toole and his manager Ryan Roach

“I am really proud of what Thomas did on such a big stage,” Roach commented. “He opened a lot of doors for himself with a highlight reel knockout. He told me right before he went out that he was born for this. He was right! He is such a gifted fighter with power in both hands and his footwork was very impressive. We are hoping for a January fight date, but it could be sooner after what he did the other night.”

O’Toole won his pro debut this past September 25th in the Boston suburb of Dedham, in which he knocked down Francisco Ariri Neto three times for a spectacular first-round knockout.

Now back home in Ireland, O’Toole said he’d take a few days off and then return to the gym. He hopes to be back fighting again in January.

O’Toole is part of Fighter Locker’s growing stable of gifted boxers that includes super flyweight Rocco “So Cal Kid” Santomauro (21-1, 6 KOs), NBA Continental junior welterweight & ABF American West super lightweight champion Ray Jay “The Destroyer” Bermudez (15-0, 11 KOs), ABF USA super welterweight Jimmy “Quiet Storm” Williams (18-6-2, 6 KOs), ABF American West super middleweight champion “The Amazing” Shawn McCalman (10-0, 6 KOs), super bantamweight “The Dedication” Daniel Bailey, Jr. (9-0, 5 KOs), 2-time Dominican Republic Olympian, lightweight Leonel de los Santos (4-0, 4 KOs), Boston featherweight Troy Anderson, Jr. (3-0, 2 KO), super lightweights Eric “Gladiator” Goff (4-0, 3 KOs), Marcus Davidson (2-0, 2 KOs), Orlando Perez Zapata (9-0, 6 KOs), and Miranda “La Alacrana” Reyes (5-0-1, 3 KOs), super welterweight Juan Solano (1-0, 1 KO), 2-time Colombian Olympian and 2016 Olympic silver medalist Yuberjen Martinez, Colombian light heavyweight Olympian Jorge Vivas, light heavyweight Robert Daniels, Jr. (5-0, 5 KOs), cruiserweight Roki “Rocky” Berroa (1-0), Utah brothers, ABF American West lightweight champion Ignacio Chairez (8-1-1, 5 KOs) and lightweight Gabriel Chairez (4-0-1, 2 KOs).

HORN PROMISES “MASTERCLASS” AS HE FACES HARD-HITTING MAJIHA ON NOVEMBER 25 AT YORK HALL

Harvey Horn (9-0, 2 KOs) is promising a “masterclass” when he meets Fadhili Majiha (27-14-4, 13 KOs) at Wasserman Boxing’s ‘The Development Series’ event on Thursday November 25 at London’s iconic York Hall, live on Boxing Social in the UK and Ireland and FITE TV in all other territories worldwide.

Horn has had to prepare for a new opponent for the second time at short notice following the withdrawal of Jerson Ortiz. The 26-year-old southpaw will now face the hard-hitting Tanzanian Majiha, an experienced operator, who dropped Andrew Selby twice in their 2019 contest in Newcastle.

Despite the late change of opponent, Horn, who returns to action following a unanimous points win over Adam Yahaya on October 2 at The SSE Arena, Wembley, remains focused on the task at hand as he aims to put the Flyweight division on notice with a statement win in East London.

“I’m buzzing,” said Horn. “I’m really looking forward to it. Obviously, the change of opponent hasn’t been ideal but it’s not bothering me really. I’m experienced enough now to know that no matter what my opponent brings, I should be able to counter it, nullify them, and beat whoever is in front of me.

“I’ve had a little look at my opponent. I’ve seen what he does. I’ve seen he can whack a bit, but I know what I’ve got to do. I’ve got ten rounds to impose my game plan on him and I’m confident I can get the job done. I’ve had a great camp, I’m in great shape and my sparring has been good.

“The ball is rolling now. The main problem in my career so far has been inactivity. There have been opportunities, but I haven’t been pushed. Since signing with Wasserman Boxing, I’ve had two fights in eight weeks. They know that if I’m pushed correctly and kept busy then it’s world honours for me.

“I did what I said I was going to do in my last fight. It was my first fight back after two years out and I boxed great. Obviously, I was still a bit rusty so there was bound to be things that I didn’t do spot on, but this time, I’ve got no excuses. I’m a fresh, active fighter so this fight should be nothing less than a masterclass. I’m putting that pressure on myself. I believe that with what I’ve been doing in the gym and how good I’m feeling, it’s going to be a masterclass.”

Harvey Horn tops an action-packed bill at York Hall as he headlines the first Wasserman Boxing ‘The Development Series’ event in a ten-round Flyweight contest against Fadhili Majiha.

Top Heavyweight prospects Hosea Stewart and Matty Harris will make their professional debuts having signed promotional terms with Wasserman Boxing. Stewart, who was handpicked by Anthony Joshua as a sparring partner for his fight with Kubrat Pulev, will face Artur Kubiak, while the hotly tipped Harris will meet Bulgaria’s Mladen Manev.

Also in action is Adam Booth trained Super Welterweight Ryan Martin against Angel Emilov, former Team GB Flyweight debutant Chloe Watson facing Judit Hachbold, Dutch Super Middleweight Martin Foruversus Pavol Garaj, Louis Horn debuting in the Lightweight division against Jakub Laskowski, and Welterweight amateur standout ‘The Show Stopper’ Saqib Khan.

Limited tickets are available via fighters and online at www.eventbrite.co.uk

ISAAC CRUZ TRAINING CAMP QUOTES

MEXICO CITY (November 22, 2021) – Hard-hitting lightweight contender Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz has embraced the underdog role heading into his showdown against WBA Lightweight Champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis which headlines a SHOWTIME PPV on Sunday, December 5 in a Premier Boxing Champions event from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles.

“I have proven time and time again that my drive and desire to be champion is too big to be ignored,” said Cruz. “This fight won’t be the exception. I am going to pull off the upset and a brand new star will be born on December 5.”

The 23-year-old Cruz has put together a 21-fight unbeaten streak heading into his first world title clash, including most recently defeating former champion Francisco Vargas by unanimous decision live on SHOWTIME in June. Now, as he prepares to face the fast-rising star Davis, Cruz brings the hunger of an underdog into every aspect of his training.

“My motivation to be at my very best for this fight is the biggest key for me day in and day out,” said Cruz. “This is the fight that I’ve always dreamed of. The work we do in the gym, the runs I go on and the conditioning drills I push through, are all fueled by my motivation to make the most of this opportunity.”

The Mexico City-native is the latest in his family’s deep history in the sport, as he follows in the footsteps of his grandfather Memo, his father Isaac Sr., his uncles Eduardo and Guillermo, and his older brother Diego, who all fought professionally. Despite that familial pressure, Cruz was actually initially interested in the sport to keep himself on a positive path in life.

“Boxing was always in my blood, but my main motivation to get into boxing as a kid was steering myself away from bad role models and influences in my neighborhood,” said Cruz. “I was six-years-old when I decided to tag along to the gym one day with my grandpa, and I really liked it. A passion for the sport was born, and now it’s just a full-blown love story between boxing and I.”

In addition to his family, Cruz had heard from the legendary Mexican champion Julio César Chávez before securing the Davis fight. The conversation turned out not only to be prescient, but added another motivating factor for Cruz heading into this fight.

“Chávez told me to make sure I’m always staying ready in case that fight with Gervonta was going to become a reality,” said Cruz. “Afterwards, he told me that I have the courage needed to defeat Gervonta. The fact that he said that to me speaks volumes about the strides I’ve made as a person and as a fighter.”

Cruz will be looking to take advantage of the strong contingent of Mexican and Mexican-American boxing fans in Los Angeles who will surely be in his corner on fight night against Davis. Despite that expected edge, Cruz knows he can’t rely on it to help him in the ring.

“I am so happy to be fighting in Los Angeles with all of the Mexican fans,” said Cruz. “But I have to remember that in the end, it’s just going to be me and Gervonta face-to-face in the ring. Of course it motivates me that I’m going to feel right at home. But I just can’t let it distract me or trick me into becoming overconfident.

“Defeating Gervonta Davis is the only thing on my mind. When I win, I know he’s going to want the rematch and I can promise that I will train twice as hard for that fight when it happens.”

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Mayweather Promotions, GTD Promotions and TGB Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased at AXS.com.

Undefeated Polish cruiserweight prospect Adrian “Pretty Boy” Pinheiro Makes Nashville debut this Saturday

ORLANDO (November 22, 2021) – Undefeated Polish cruiserweight prospect Adrian “Pretty Boy” Pinheiro (5-0, 5 KOs) has taken an unusual route to Nashville, where he will take on veteran Eric Abraham (6-10, 3 KOs) this Saturday night in a 4-round bout at Municipal Auditorium.

The 24-year-old Pinheiro was born in Poland, grew up in Brazil, moved to Orlando and then up to Massachusetts for a job opportunity in security in Boston’s Seaport and Financial districts. He started boxing three years ago, rapidly developing into a Central New England Golden Gloves Novice super heavyweight champion, turning pro this past May in Orlando where he lives again.

“I’ve always been a fan of boxing,” Pinheiro explained, “but I didn’t box until I moved to the United States. I appreciate the art of boxing. I’m an exciting boxer who can mix it up. I fight on the outside or inside, depending on who I’m fighting, and adapting in the ring.

“My opponent is a southpaw, and he can be a little awkward. It’s going to be a good fight. He’s more experienced than me, but I’m comfortable fighting a southpaw. I’m working to improve as an all-around fighter in every aspect, mentally and physically.”

The 6’ 4”, 200-pound Pinheiro will be fighting on the “Nashville Beatdown” card, presented by Lank The King & Lank Promotions, in association with Affiliation Management.

“’Pretty Boy’ is a boxer who looks like a model,” promoter Langston Hampton, Jr. commented. “He’s real fast and swift. He has to be reckoned with because he’s a good, clean fighter. I’m one of the promoters involved with him. He made his pro debut May 8th on my show in Orlando. With his talent and looks, Adrian could be the next champion from Poland. The sky is the limit for him. It’s all about dedication. He has the talent in the ring and outside he’s very marketable. The Polish need a new champion and it’s going to be Adrian Pinheiro!”

Back living in Orlando and training at the Orlando Boxing Club, Pinheiro is an avid country music fan who is excited to be fighting in Nashville, the capital of country “his music.”

“I can’t wait to get to Nashville,” Pinheiro said. “I’m a huge country fan. This is special to me!”

poster.jpg
“I’m excited about this young man,” Pinheiro’s manager/head trainer Tony Blanco remarked. “He’s a humble beast who works hard. He works out twice a day. My only problem with him is getting him out of the gym. He is the future!

“Adrian is a big country music fan. When the opportunity came to fight in Nashville, in front of Floyd Mayweather, Jr., he accepted right away.”

Polish boxing fans are known for their passion. Waving red and white Poland flags and singing loudly, they haven’t really had many fighters to follow in the United States since Andrew Golota and Tomasz Adamek. “Pretty Boy” would love to get support from his fellow Polish and Polish-Americans.

“I’ve heard a lot about them,” Pinheiro added. “Orlando doesn’t have much of a Polish community, but I hope that time will come. I love my people!”

RayJay Bermudez, James Perella & Francis Hogan all winners

DEDHAM, Mass. (November 21, 2021) – Vertex Promotions closed its first season in style last night with its fourth event in less than 60 days, “Fall Brawl,” at Moseley’s on the Charles in Dedham, Massachusetts.

“We feel good about what we’ve done, especially considering we just started promoting,” Vertex promoter Dave Clark said. “Fans and fighters are enjoying what we’re doing. We’re making plans for next year, but we don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves. We’re in rhythm.”

Headliner RayJay “The Destroyer” Bermudez (14-0, 11 KOs) outclassed his tough Mexican opponent, super lightweight Danny “Vendado” Flores (15-25-1, 8 KOs). Bermudez patiently fought his fight, setting up power punches and staying away from Flores’ punches, comfortably and effortlessly moving in and out. A three-punch combination buzzed Flores at the end of round one, Bermudez nearly putting Flores away as the bell sounded. Bermudez continued to control the pace in the second, repeatedly whacking Flores, even though Flores tried to bait Bermudez into a brawl midway through the third. His request backfired as Bermudez pounded him with a steady diet of powerful lefts and rights.

The accumulation of punches Flores ate eventually took its toll as Bermudez consistently ripped vicious punches to Flores’ head and body, nearly ending the fight at the end of round four. Flores somehow preserved, but it was only momentary, as Bermudez pinned Flores on the rope and fired away in the next round. The beating didn’t end as Flores asked for more and Bermudez gladly obliged. In the end, Bermudez won a brutal 8-round unanimous decision, but Flores got kudos for lasting six hard rounds.

Bermudez, from Albany (NY), is the NBA Continental Junior Welterweight and ABF American West Super Lightweight champion.

In the co-featured event, undefeated Mansfield (MA) welterweight James “The Slim Reaper” Perella (8-0, 6 KOs) peppered Andre Byrd (8-11-2, 1 KO) from all angles, using his height and length from the outside during the first five rounds. In the sixth round, he fought more on the inside, smothering Byrd’s punches, and shifted into an attack mode in the seventh and eighth. Byrd, however, hung tough and made it to the final bell, as Perella took a one-sided 8-round unanimous decision. Perella needed to go rounds and Byrd gave that to him.

A graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, Perella is a 4-time USA New England Championships and 4-time New England Golden Gloves Champion.

Once again it was Tank Time! Undefeated super welterweight Francis “The Frank” Hogan pleased his growing fanbase by remaining perfect, winning his ninth pro fight, each by knockout. The 21-year-old southpaw knocked Rynell Griffin (8-49-2, 2 KOs) on his rear in the first round, followed with a knockdown in the second with a left hook, and two more trips to the canvas in the third, until the referee halted the fight. Using his right as a range finder, in addition taking advantage of his height and reach advantages, his lethal left closed the show. Hogan, of Weymouth (MA), is the reigning New Hampshire Super Welterweight Champion as well as a 2019 New England Golden Gloves champion.

Francis Hogan (R) remained perfect

Four-time U.S. Army champion “The Dedication” Daniel Bailey (8-0, 4 KOs, fighting out of Tampa (FL), drilled Austin Reed (10-0, 5 KOs), dropping him the round one with an overhand right, and he closed the show at the end of the same frame with a lefthanded uppercut. Bailey, the cousin of former world champion Randall Bailey, also captured top honors at the 2012 Ringside National Tournament.

Fighting in his first scheduled 8-round fight, 2020 Dominican Republic Olympian Rohan “El Rayo” Polanco (6-0, 3 KOs) stepped up in terms of competition and passed the test with flying colors against veteran Argentinian super lightweight Jonathan “El Potro” Eniz (27-16-1, 11 KOs), dominating the fight for a decisive decision.

Undefeated “The Amazing” Shawn McCalman improved his record to 10-0 (6 KOs), stopping super middleweight David Rohn (0-10-1) with a crushing body shot early in round one. McCalman, of Colorado, is the reigning ABF American West champion.

Local favorite Troy Anderson, Jr. (3-0. 3 KOs), fighting out of nearby Dorchester (district of Boston), was too much for Ronny Arana (0-3) to handle. A 2016 Rocky Marciano Tournament champion, southpaw Anderson displayed solid fundamentals throughout the fight, trapping his opponent on the ropes in the second round, and unloading a pair of unanswered double-digit flurries. Anderson cut-off the ring effectively in the third, pressing the game Arana, who showed signs of fatigue yet survived to the end. The virtually unmarked Anderson went the distance for the first time in his young career, but he pitched a shutout for a 4-round unanimous decision, winning each round on the three judges’ scorecards.

In the first scheduled 6-rounder of the night, New Bedford middleweight Drew “Tomahawk” Dwelly (4-0-2, 4 KOs) decked Ginno Montoya (0-7) three times in the opening round, the second on a left hook to the stomach, for a convincing victory by way of a technical knockout.

Pro-debuting welterweight Miguel Valencia, of Worcester, won a 4-round split decision over Boston’s James Murrin (1-1, 0 KOs) in a competitive match.

Puerto Rico-native Alex Rivera (2-0, 2 KOs), fighting out of Southbridge (MA), out-boxed featherweight DeShawn Kennedy (0-5) enroute to a commanding 4-round unanimous decision.

Kansas City super lightweight Marcus Davidson (2-0, 2 KOs) needed only four-seconds to win his fight against pro-debuting Marlon Hardnick, Jr. Davidson moved across the ring, threw a 2-punch combination, the latter punch a left hook that sent his opponent to the canvas, which ended the fight.

In the opening bout of the evening, Salem (MA) super welterweight Kenny Larson had a memorable professional debut, dropping Seigenald Daley, Jr. (0-2) midway through round one, and moments later Lawson connected right on the button with a right cross that floored his opponent. Referee Kevin Hope stopped the fight without counting.

Shawn Porter Announces Retirement after Loss to Crawford

LAS VEGAS — Shawn Porter announced Saturday that will retire during the post-fight news conference following his stoppage loss to Terence Crawford for the welterweight title at Mandalay Bay’s Michelob ULTRA Arena.

“I am ending my career tonight,” Porter (31-4-1, 17 KOS) said after father and trainer Kenny Porter ended it in the 10th-round of a bout televised by ESPN+ pay-per-view.

Porter was knocked down twice in the 10th by Crawford (38-0, 29 KOs).

In losing for the first time by stoppage, Porter was knocked down as many times within one round as he was in his career — first by Adrian Broner and then by Errol Spence Jr.

Crawford wins TKO, Porter’s corner ends it in 10th round

LAS VEGAS – In the end, it was Terence Crawford’s dance floor.

He danced with his family. Danced with his mom. Maybe he danced to the top of the pound-for-pound debate.

Neither the dance nor the debate figures to end anytime soon. Above all, Crawford proved he still belongs on any dance floor and in any debate with a 10th-round stoppage of Shawn Porter Saturday night in front of a capacity crowd at Mandalay Bay’s Michelob ULTRA Arena.

Porter came as advertised. He knows a lot of dance steps. But he couldn’t sustain them against the patient Crawford. He knows how to wait. Knows how to adjust. And how to finish.

The finish came at 1:21 of the 10th round after two knockdowns of Porter. Porter’s first trip to the canvas started with a left-uppercut from. The return trip started with a combination followed by a left hand to the head. Frustrated, Porter got up and stomped his foot.

But the gesture was futile. It was over. His father and trainer, Kenny Porter, was already up the steps with towel in hand. The towel was never thrown. The referee and inspector for the Nevada Commission saw it and acted. Kenny Porter would later say his son wasn’t properly prepared, confirming rumors that Shawn Porter had a problematic camp.

For Crawford, however, it was a moment that punctuated what he wanted to accomplish.

The belt, the World Boxing Organization’s version of the welterweight. Title, was still in his dangerous hands. More important, he strengthened his claim on the top spot in the pound-for-pound debate. Canelo Alvarez, are you listening?

One potential Crawford rival, however, was there. Listening and watching. Errol Spence had a ringside seat.

“Now wait, my thing is, who’s No. 1 in the welterweight division now?” Crawford said in a comment clearly intended for Spence.

At the top of the 147-pound division, it’s either Spence or Crawford. There is nobody else. Crawford made sure of it by eliminating Porter from any real say-so in the weight class. Crawford also has the last word, at least for now.

“You know who I want,’’ said Crawford, who collected about $6 million, $2 million more than Porter’s $4 million payday. “I’ve been calling him out all day. Maybe, Spence will get his tail out of his butt and fight me.’’

Maybe.

For now, there are questions about where Crawford is headed. Promotionally, he’s a free agent. His victory of Porter was the last fight on Top Rank contract.

Top Rank’s Bob Arum is confident he can re-sign him. Arum is already talking about a fight between Crawford and junior-welterweight champion Josh Taylor, who is preparing to move up in weight

For now, however, Crawford only wanted to celebrate a night that began with Porter coming out fast, moving forward and attacking throughout the first three minutes. For one round, it worked. He appeared to win the round with his aggressiveness.

He also was sending a message, one that he wore on the back of his black-and-orange robe. Marvelous War, it said. It was a tribute to legendary warrior, Marvin Hagler. It was note of respect to the past. But it was also a look at the immediate future, a sign of what Porter intended to do.

To wit: Crawford better be ready to brawl. He was. Porter unleashed a whirlwind of an arsenal — conventional, unconventional and often a blur of both.

“I figured that I had the reach and he had to take chances to come to him and he did what he normally does,’’ Crawford said.  “He tried to maul and push me back but I used my angles and I pushed him back at times as well.  Shawn Porter is a slick fighter he was doing some things in there and made me think

“I know I caught him with a good uppercut and then when I caught hidm with another left hook clean in his face that he was real hurt and his dad did the right thing by stopping it because I was coming with a vengeance.’’

In the end, there was nothing else to do but dance to Chaka Khan’ “Ain’t Nobody.’’

For one night, nobody but Terence Crawford.

Falcao wins technical decision in dull bout stopped by head butt

It was called an eliminator. In one way, it was. The crowd cheered when the final six rounds of the Esquiva Falcao-Patrice Volny was eliminated because head butt.

The butt came late in the sixth after Volny (16-1, 10 KOs), of Montreal, swung his head into Falcao’s face. The bout, so-called eliminator for a shot at the International Boxing Federation’s middleweight title. Everything before then was boring. Think deadly dull.

After it was determined that Falcao could not continue, the scorecards were turned in and counted. Two scores, 57-56 and 58-56 were for Falcao, an Olympic silver medalist from Brazil The third — a head scratcher — was for Volny, 86-84. Falcao (29-0, 20 KOs) got the victory by technical decision.

The crowd got some relief. At least, it was over.

Kazak middleweight Alimkhanuly wins stoppage

Janibek Alimkhanuly (11-0, 7KOs) ), a heavy-handed middleweight from Kazakhstan, administered a beating, landing lethal left hands that rocked Hassan N’Dam around the ring and off the ropes, virtually everywhere except on to the canvas.

Somehow, N’Dam (38-6, 21 KOs) , a former middleweight champion from Cameroon, stayed on his feet throughout the bout on a card featuring Crawford-Porter. But that wasn’t enough for him to have even a slim chance of winning. Finally, Kenny Bayless stopped it at 2:46 of the eighth round of a bout that could have easily been stopped a round or two earlier.

Unbeaten Raymond Muratalla wins fifth-round TKO

There was no stopping Raymond Muratalla (13-0, 11 KOs), a lightweight from Fontana CA. Elias Araujo (21-4, 8KOs), of Argentina, couldn’t. But Allen Huggins could. And did.

Huggins stepped in and ended the bout at 2:20 of the fifth round in the first ESPN + PPV bout on the Crawford-Porter card. Araujo protested, first in anger. Then, in tears. But the referee had seen enough. Muratalla began to land punch after punch. Blood began to drip from a cut on Araujo’s cheek and from his nose.

Huggins saved him from what would have been a bad beating.

Dogboe wins majority decision

LAS VEGAS –Isaac Dogboe, a fighter from Ghana once projected to be a star, continued to try to regain some of his abundant promise, scoring a narrow victory — majority decision — over Puerto Rican Christopher Diaz (26-4, 16 KOs) on a card featuring Crawford-Porter.

Dogboe , a former 122-pound champion now at featherweight, won his third straight since his career(26-4, 16 KOs) was sidetracked by successive losses to Emanuel Navarrete.

Head butt leads to no decision

There was blood. But there was no decision.

Adan Ochoa (12-2, 5 KOs), a featherweight from Long Beach CA, was badly cut above his right eye in a head butt with Adam Lopez (15-3, 6 LOs of Glendale CA during the first round of a scheduled eight-rounder. on the Crawford-Porter card.

Late in the second, the blood began to flow into Ochoa’s eye. Just as the bell rang to start the third, the fight was stopped, declared a no decision because it had not gone at least four rounds.

Karlos Balderas wins fourth-round stoppage

Karlos Balderas (11-1, 10 KOs), a junior-lightweight from Santa Maria CA, was bigger and just better, scoring repeatedly with combinations, including a headrocking left-right that finished Julio Cortez (15-4, 11 KOs) of Ecuador at 2:13 of the fourth round in the second bout on the Crawford-Porter card.

First Bell: Tiger Jonson kicks off his career and Crawford-Porter card with TKO win

It was first bell. A debut, too.

Tiger Johnson, a welterweight from Cleveland, kicked off his career and the card featuring Terence Crawford-versus-Shawn Porter with a stoppage of Antonius Grable (3-3-1, 3 KOs) in a Saturday matinee at Mandalay Bay’s Michelob ULTRA Arena.

Johnson landed successive right hands, leaving Grable of Sarasota, FL dazed and done at 1:54 of the fourth round.

Just to make sure that everybody noticed, celebrated by walking toward retired welterweight champion Timothy Bradley, who was already in his ringside seat for he ESPN + pay-per-view telecast..

“I’m here, Tim,” Johnson shouted as he leaned over the ropes. “I’m here.”

Crawford-Porter: Could close on the scale mean close on the cards?

By Norm Frauenheim –

LAS VEGAS – Only two ounces separated them on the scale. That amounts to a couple of AA batteries, or maybe a tennis ball. It’s not much, somewhere between tiny and imperceptible.

Call it even, a sign perhaps of what to expect in a compelling welterweight fight between Terence Crawford and Shawn Porter Saturday (ESPN + pay-per-view/6 pm PT, 9 pm ET) at Mandalay Bay’s Michelob Ultra Arena.

Betting odds suggest otherwise. They were 6-to-1 in favor of Crawford after he was at 146.4 pounds and Porter at 146.6 Friday at the formal weigh-in.

If those odds are reliable, Crawford will prove what he’s been saying all along. His skillset, he says, is unrivaled at welterweight and perhaps any weight.

It’s a claim he has asserted and re-asserted throughout a pound-for-pound debate that has shifted in favor of Canelo Alvarez, a super-middleweight champion who apparently is planning to fight for a cruiserweight title.

Against the smart and stubborn Porter, Crawford has a chance to punch some real evidence into his pound-for-pound claim.

“Beating a guy like Shawn Porter would boost my resume and my legacy to the next level,’’ Crawford, the World Boxing Organization’s champion, said earlier this week. “I’m not going to be biased. I’m going to be realistic.

“It depends on how I beat Shawn Porter and what fashion.’’

Fashion could mean just about anything. But a stoppage seems to fit best. It would say everything Crawford hopes to.

However, Crawford (37-0, 28 KOs), never a man of many words, said even less Friday. Opening bell is close. He stepped off the scale Friday and only said he wanted to win.

But he punctuated that comment with the intense eyes that appear to to see opportunity in the approaching storm. Lose the opportunity and he has lost the debate.

Porter (31-3-1, 17 KOs) also understands the stakes. He said a few weeks ago that he thought Crawford, unbeaten and a three-division champion, is already in the Hall of Fame. Porter is not quite there yet. But he’s on the brink, he said. An upset of Crawford would put him there.

Despite the seemingly one-sided odds, Porter has a resume that suggests he can spring that upset.

He has lost three fights – to Errol Spence Jr., Keith Thurman and Kell Brook He has a draw with Julio Diaz. He’s been down twice, once against Spence and once against Adrian Broner. That’s the part of his record that says he’s vulnerable.

But here’s what says he has a shot: He’s never been stopped. More significant, perhaps, is that he lost narrowly on the scorecards — a split decision — to Spence before Spence was badly hurt in a car crash. Pre-accident, Crawford-Spence might have been a pick-em fight.

Porter’s gritty resilience against Spence is just one marker that says that he can do what the odds say he can’t.

He knows that, knows it enough to smile straight into the menace projected by Crawford’s unforgiving eyes.

They measured each other throughout an unblinking stare-down during the ritual face-off for nearly 23 seconds after the weigh-in.

Porter finally broke it off, faced the crowd and smiled.

“Terence, you know better than I do that you’ve matured,’’ he said a couple of days before the weigh-in. “I feel like people see your personality and your character right now more than they’ve ever seen, but I feel like I’m still correct in saying that when the wrong Tweet or Instagram post goes up, you can get upset.’’

Upset, maybe, in more ways than one.

MCCASKILL PENS MATCHROOM DEAL AND DEFENDS UNDISPUTED VS. BUSTOS IN VEGAS

Jessica McCaskill has signed a long-term promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing and Eddie Hearn – and will defend her undisputed Welterweight title against Victoria Bustos at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday December 4, live worldwide on DAZN.

Tickets starting at $58 (plus fees) go are on sale NOW!

McCaskill (10-2 3 KOs) successfully defended the Welterweight straps that she ripped from Cecilia Brækhus in a rematch with the Norwegian in March in Dallas, having handed Brækhus her first career defeat on the street in Tulsa, Oklahoma in August 2020.

‘CasKILLA’ became a two-weight ruler against Brækhus, having previously been unified at Super-Lightweight having beaten WBC champion Erica Farias in October 2018, adding the WBA strap in May 2019 against Anahi Sanchez and then successfully defending the belts in a rematch with Farias in October 2019.

The Chicago star now puts her 147lbs belts on the line against fellow two-weight champion Bustos, and it’s a second attempt for the Argentine to become a three-weight champion after she challenged Brækhus for the belts in November 2019.

“Matchroom gave me a shot on the big stage, and I want to finish my career them – I’m excited!” said McCaskill. “We have a tough test in front of us in Victoria, she’s a great fighter and she’s been in with everyone, but I am confident I will keep my belts and we’ll move on to more great fights in 2022.”

“I am happy we worked out a deal,” said trainer and manager Rick Ramos. “Eddie Hearn and Matchroom have been good to us. I want to continue doing business with them. I’m happy and I’m excited! Let’s work!”

“Jessica has been a revelation since she travelled to the UK to face Katie Taylor in December 2017,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “She’s stepped up to face all-comers and with grit, determination and skill she’s a two-weight World champion – and she’s not done yet. There are plenty of big fights out there for Jess, starting in Las Vegas against Victoria who always lays it all on the line when she fights.”

McCaskill and Bustos lead an all-star cast in support of the mouth-watering headline attraction where Devin Haney defends his WBC World Lightweight title against Joseph ‘JoJo’ Diaz, Jr.

Croatian Heavyweight star Filip Hrgovi? (13-0 11 KOs) continues his quest for world domination as he defends his IBF International Title against Scott Alexander (16-4-2, 8 KOs).

Th 29-year-old from Zagreb returns to action following a one-sided beat down of Marko Radonjic on September 10 at the Worthersee Stadium in Klagenfurt, Austria. With an IBF Final Eliminator in the works for 2022, Hrgovi? knows he cannot afford any slip ups as he looks to extend his unbeaten run against the 32-year-old LA-native Alexander, who has previously gone the distance with Heavyweight contenders Carlos Negron and Travis Kaufmann.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in the ring and fighting on a big show in Las Vegas,” said Hrgovi?. “I’ve always wanted to box in Las Vegas where so many great Heavyweight champions have fought before. My opponent Scott Alexander is a tough fighter, but I have been training hard and will be ready to give the fans another great performance on December 11.”

“Watch out Las Vegas, ‘El Animal’ is coming,” said promoter Kalle Sauerland. “We’re delighted to be working with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing to deliver Filip this fantastic opportunity to fight in Las Vegas as part of a huge event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. This is a chance for Filip to end the year on a high before shifting his focus to World Titles in 2022.”

One of Matchroom’s newest American stars fights for the first time with Eddie Hearn, as Montana Love takes on Carlos Diaz.

Love (16-0-1 8 KOs) penned his deal with Hearn after his impressive showing in Cleveland in August, where he forced former World champion Ivan Baranchyk after seven exciting rounds. The 26 year old is hunting down big fights in 2022, but Diaz (29-1 14 KOs) will be looking to spoil his Matchroom bow.

“I’m excited for my debut with Matchroom and DAZN December 4,” said Love. “Too Pretty taking his throne, this my shit now.”

There’s a welcome return to the ring for talented Middleweight Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams as he faces Quatavious Cash. Williams (8-0 6 KOs) last tasted action in March on the undercard, outpointing experienced campaigner Denis Douglin over eight rounds, and he’ll meet Cash (14-2 8 KOs) over that distance in his ninth pro-outing and first as a pro in Las Vegas.

Alexis Espino (9-0 6 KOs) is in action for the tenth time in the paid ranks as he takes on Rodolfo Gomez Jr. in the first eight round fight of his pro career, and Marc Castro (4-0 4 KOs) is out to make it five KOs from five pro fights, with his opponent to be named soon.

“This is a stacked card to close our year in the States,” said Hearn. “Filip is knocking loudly on the door of his fellow World class operators in the Heavyweight division, and next year we expect him to break that door down and be involved in – and win – some massive fights.

“Montana Love is a great character and a serious contender, and I am looking forward to him beginning his journey with us in Vegas. It’s great to have Ammo back doing what he does best and Alexis and Marc are two future superstars that continue to impress on their pro journeys.”

ABOUT MAYHEM IN MYRTLE 4:

On Saturday, November 20, at the beautiful Crown Reef Resort and Waterpark in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Christy Martin Promotions will proudly present “Mayhem In Myrtle 4,” a night of world-class professional boxing action.

In the night’s six-round main event, popular undefeated super featherweight Benigno “Benny” Aguilar (6-0, 3 KOs) from Crescent City, Florida, will face Miami via Managua, Nicaragua’s Julio “El Halconcito” Buitrago (13-32, 3 KOs).

Blessed with an army of supporters, Aguilar always brings a large collective of fans to watch his, thus far, always successful ring exploits. The 22-year-old is a patient counterpuncher with good power and an excellent jab. He will be looking to stay unbeaten against an experienced 47-fight veteran in Buitrago, who turned professional 16 years ago and has fought internationally several times.

General admission tickets for “Mayhem In Myrtle 4” are available for $50 at Eventbrite.com or locally at Beast Boxing Myrtle Beach (3870 S Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach). Ringside Tickets are SOLD OUT.

The co-main event, announced last week at a special press conference in his hometown of Danbury, CT, will feature USA #1 amateur super heavyweight and national champion Fernely Feliz Jr. making his highly anticipated professional debut in a four-rounder against Stephen Kirnon (2-3-1, 1 KO) of Bronx, New York.

Scheduled for action is a six-round welterweight grudge match between Charlotte, North Carolina’s Kristopher Kyle Harrell (8-1, 6 KOs) and Durham, North Carolina veteran Marklin Bailey (6-7, 4 KOs).

And in one of the night’s other highly anticipated supporting bouts, promising undefeated super featherweight DeMichael Harris (5-0, 5 KOs) of Decatur, Georgia, via Cleveland, will put his perfect record on the line against Julio Gomez Leyva (0-1-1) of Norcross, Georgia via La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico.

Also scheduled is a six-round super middleweight bout between undefeated Russian power puncher Artem Brusov (9-0, 8 KOs) and Kannapolis, North Carolina, veteran Courtney McCleave (2-11, 1 KO); as well as an appearance by power-punching 6? 7? Nigerian heavyweight Onoriode “Godzilla” Ehwarieme (18-2, 17 KOs) against an opponent that is TBA.

In a special female attraction, Georgetown, Texas’ undefeated Destiny “Too Sweet” Jones (1-0) will also face pro debuting Shaniqua Frazier in a lightweight four-rounder. 22-year-old Jones, from Cedar Park, Texas, had extensive amateur experience including the 2018 Austin Regional Golden Gloves; 2017 Nationals; 2017 Eastern Tournaments; and the USA Boxing Eastern Elite Qualifiers, among many others.

A pair of winless heavyweights, Julio Mendoza (0-1) from Crescent City, Florida, and Franklin, New York’s Drew Nolan (0-2), will each try to get into the win column over four rounds; while two undefeated featherweight prospects, Tampa, Florida’s Daniel “G.D.F.E.” Bailey (8-0, 4 KOs) and Roanoke, Virginia’s Donte Dunnaville (4-0, 3 KOs) will clash in a six-round showdown.

Bailey will be having his seventh fight of 2021, an unusual feat during normal times… a miracle during a pandemic, is the cousin of iron-fisted multi-weight world champion Randall “KO King” Bailey.

RA’EESE ALEEM TRAINING CAMP QUOTES

LAS VEGAS (November 19, 2021) – Undefeated super bantamweight Ra’eese Aleem will look to further cement his status as a top contender when he faces Mexico’s Eduardo Báez in a 10-round duel live on SHOWTIME Saturday, November 27 in a Premier Boxing Champions event from Dolby Live at Park MGM in Las Vegas.

The SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING tripleheader begins at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT and is headlined by unbeaten super bantamweight world champions going toe-to-toe as WBC Champion Brandon Figueroa faces WBO Champion Stephen Fulton Jr. in a title unification clash.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased at ticketmaster.com.

Aleem returns to the ring after a statement victory in January on SHOWTIME, as he dropped the previously unbeaten Vic Pasillas four times on his way to a dominating 11th round TKO victory. Here is what Aleem had to say about his November 27 matchup and more from training camp in Las Vegas:

On his recent training camp in Las Vegas with Coach Bobby McCoy:

“I have been out of the ring since January, but I have stayed focused. My trainer Bobby McCoy has been right by my side since then, and together we have been working hard to get to this point. The sparring we’ve got here in Vegas is second to none, so I know I’ll be ready for anything Baez brings. I’m in great shape and I’m the hungriest I’ve ever been in my career. “

On the WBA title eliminator situation (Aleem chose to keep his fight date with Baez after the WBA ordered an eliminator match versus Azat Hovhannisyan):

“As many may be aware, I chose not to fight Azat Hovhannisyan in the WBA super bantamweight eliminator. My reasoning is simple, I have been out of the ring since January. I am a fighter and I need to fight. I just had my best performance, and my fight has been pushed back already once. I want to be able to get this fight in, work on things I need to improve, and then take on the next challenge in front of me.

“For me, sitting on the shelf even longer was unrealistic at this stage in my career. I am a fighter the fans want to see face the world champions at 122-pounds. I beat the most dangerous guy in the division for the interim title, so I should be fighting the champion.”

On his opponent, Eduardo Báez:

“Báez is tough pressure fighter, and I will have to be ready for a grueling fight. He is unbeaten in his last twelve fights, with eleven wins and one draw. His only loss was to Mauricio Lara, a world class fighter. I am taking this fight very seriously since this is the type of fight that could ruin everything I have worked for.

“I am going to make a statement in this bout and end the fight before the final bell rings. I know none of the top fighters want to fight me, unless the sanctioning bodies force them into fighting me, so because of that, I must keep winning.

“I am annoyed because I know I am the best super bantamweight in the world. I have been watching a lot of Marvin Hagler and finding inspiration in his story. I know that if I keep winning in spectacular fashion, the fans will demand to see me in a big fight. Until then, I just have to keep winning.”

On fighting in his adopted hometown of Las Vegas:

“I get a lot of support in Las Vegas. A lot of people will be coming out to see me fight. I’ve sparred some great fighters that stay out here, and they all want to see me in action. I carry myself as a humble fighter, but I know I am one of the very best, and my confidence is felt by those around me. I know others believe in me, and want to see me perform, so this will be a coming out party for my Vegas peeps. I feel I have been embraced by Las Vegas, and now I intend to get a knockout victory in my new hometown and steal the show.”

On Fighting on SHOWTIME:

“I love fighting on SHOWTIME. I feel like I have grown-up as a fighter on this platform starting on the ShoBox: The New Generation platform, and then having a dominant knockout win over Vic Pasillas. I want to stay fighting on SHOWTIME since the executives and staff have always treated me great, and I feel at home here.

“I want the winner of Figueroa vs. Fulton. If the winner won’t fight me, then the world will know they are ducking me, that they are not true warriors, and they can’t be considered true champions to the fans. I want to fight for a world title, and I want everyone watching on SHOWTIME to know my hunger is real.”
