ALEX “THE BRICK CITY BULLET” PEREZ RETURNS TO HEADLINE KEA BOXING’S, “BOXING AT THE BIRCHWOOD” IN WHIPPANY, NEW JERSEY THIS SATURDAY MAY 31

NEWARK, NJ (May 30, 2014) – Alex “The Brick City Bullet” Perez, 17-1, 9 KO’s is an old school, all action fighter who wants nothing more than to fight as often as possible. Unfortunately, the business of boxing has often worked against the tall southpaw. Perez takes great pride in his craft and has always had faith that he will become a World Champion. He makes it very clear that he wants the biggest fights out there as often as possible at this point in his career to show the world who he really is.

After a year of inactivity Perez returns to the ring this Saturday night to fight another tough competitor in Jeremiah Wiggins, 10-2, 5 KO’s on KEA Boxing’s, “Boxing at the Birchwood” series. Wiggins is tough fighter who was undefeated at 10-0 prior to his last two fights. In those two fights Wiggins went to war with two undefeated rising stars and dropped and almost stopped both of them.. In his most recent fight with Julian Williams, who is now 16-0, Wiggins had Williams down, in serious trouble and in a spot where the referee was close to stopping it, but Williams weathered the storm and later went on to stop Wiggins despite his protests.

Perez and Wiggins are two fighters who both always come to fight and who both have something to prove. Again Perez who is a natural at 147 pound fighter has had several opponents pull out of this date and is being asked to fight a dangerous fighter who is a junior middleweight, a full weight class above….but Perez is hungry to take out any obstacles on his way to a belt in the welterweight division and the Brick City Bullet is ready for whoever and whatever comes his way.

The Perez vs. Wiggins bout will headline KEA Boxing’s return of their Boxing at the Birchwood Series which was extremely popular almost a decade ago before KEA started to do more shows in several states and locations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and South Carolina. Their return to their roots in Morris County New Jersey features an excellent undercard and the Birchwood Manor is probably the nicest intimate venue to watch professional Boxing in all of New Jersey.

KEA’s president, Andre Kut is very excited to be back and has also fought through great adversity to consistently bring the area top notch world class professional boxing. He has had to overcome many obstacles to do this, but has not let anything or anyone stand in his way.

It was very unfortunate that in Alex Perez’s’ biggest fight to date, he suffered his lone defeat in a bout for the NABF welterweight title against world rated Antonin Decarie. Boxing is an unforgiving sport where big opportunities are very difficult to come by, and while no one wants to hear excuses, everyone involved with that fight was aware that he came down with a stomach virus the day of the weigh in.

While several members of team Perez pleaded with him to pull out, cooler heads did not prevail and the throwback Brick City warrior decided to go in with all he had. Unfortunately all he had that night was a dehydrated calorie deprived body that was unable to put on any weight after the weigh in the day before and his heart and mental toughness were not enough to overcome the illness and physical handicap that he gallantly tried to overcome against the very capable Decarie who fought a great fight.

Perez , who had been the most active of his career in fighting and defeating good opponents leading up to that night under promoter DiBella Entertainment, pleaded with everyone around him for a rematch. However, while the fight made sense in the eyes of Perez, no one else was interested in it at that time, and unfortunately Perez and DiBella parted ways. Perez wanted a tough fight back to show the world the Decarie fight was an aberration. He reunited with KEA Boxing in New Jersey and a fight with Kenny Abril who was coming off of the biggest victory of his career over top contender, Dennis Laurente would be a tough fight and a big test coming off of the TKO loss.

Perez would dominate Abril over 8 rounds in a very impressive performance and was very eager to stay busy moving forward.
This is where the business side of boxing would again stand in his way. Without being signed by a promoter, Perez has known he needed to stay ready to fight and has trained for the last year, but he has only seen potential opportunities for fights that have fallen apart, often because people just do not want to fight the tall southpaw. His strong faith that he is in fact destined for greatness has remained fully intact, but the 32 year old Perez wants nothing more than to just be given the opportunity to show the world who he is on a regular basis.

Most people in boxing have heard by now, Perez survived a stabbing, a shooting and was at one point was falsely accused of committing a very serious aggravated assault/armed robbery that could have landed him in jail for 20+ years if his close knit, very small team didn’t band together and make sure justice was brought to light.

His lawyer, Dan Serratelli who has trained with Perez since he was a teenager took the case pro bono worked diligently on the case and eventually all charged were dropped. Perez has stated time and time again, he has tunnel vision and will not let any opponent or circumstances stand in his way. He takes great pride in giving the fans what they want and this Saturdays fight with Wiggins is sure to be a fan friendly war that should open a lot of eyes.

Perez has been featured on a documentary leading up to this fight called “Behind the Brick City Bullet” which was produced by John Archibald of Resolution Sports and all episodes can be seen on www.BrickCityBoxing.com and www.Ressports.com

Rodriguez pounds Escalera in eight

Edwin Rodriguez remained perfect by administering a one-sided beat down of prebiously undefeated Edwin Escalera in round eight of a scheduled ten round Super Middleweight bout at the MGM at Foxwoods in Connecticut.

Rodriguez came out in round one pounding Escalera all over the ring. Escalera lost his mouth piece twice but it was the least of his problems as he ate about fifty power shots in the round and a case could have been made for referee Steve Smoger to intervene in the first stanza. Rodriguez continued to box and win round’s. Rodriguez went after Escalera in round four and drilled him with hard right in the fifth that buckled Escalera.

The rout continued until referee Steve Smoger stopped the drubbing twelve seconds into round eight.

Vic Darchinyan resurrected his career by scoring a ten round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Luis Del Valle in a Super Bantamweight fight.

Darchinyan proved that experience over Del Valle was a big factor as he pounded Del Valle for most of the thirty minute affair. Del Valle should get credit for determination but Darchinyan landed punches from all angles and to all parts of Del Valle. Del Valle made a brief rally in round nine when he landed a right that rocked Darchinyan.

Darchinyam of Sydney, Australia won by scores of 99-91, 99-91 and 96-94 and is now 38-5-1. Del Valle, 122 lbs of Bayamon, PR is now 16-1.

Antonin DeCarie scored a sixth round stoppage over Alex Perez in a scheduled ten round Welterweight bout.

DeCarie worked the body and head and was doing very well mixing up the punches. In round six, DeCarie landed a vicious left that wobbled Perez and a subsequent right hand put Perez down. Perez was shaken and ate about five more flush right hands that forced referee Danny Schivone to stop the bout at 2:54 of round six.

DeCarie, 147 lbs of Montreal is now 27-1 with eight knockouts. Perez, 146 lbs of Newark, NJ is now 16-1.

HBO’s BOXING AFTER DARK TRIPLE-HEADER “THE ROAD TO GLORY” WILL FEATURE EXCITING, UNDEFEATED WELTERWEIGHT PROSPECT ALEX “THE BRICK CITY BULLET” PEREZ VS. ANTONIN DECARIE FOR THE WBC INTERNATIONAL WELTERWEIGHT TITLE AND THE NABF WELTERWEIGHT TITLE ON HBO

NEWARK, NJ (September 27, 2012) Saturday night, September 29th, live from the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT, HBO Boxing After Dark will feature an exciting triple-header which will begin at 9:30PM with a bout between Alex “The Brick City Bullet” Perez and Antonin Decarie for Decarie’s WBC International Title and the vacant NABF Title. Many boxing insiders feel this match up can easily end up being the fight of the night.

Alex “The Brick City Bullet” Perez, 16-0, 9 KOs, is a tough and exciting fighter from Newark, NJ. Decarie, 26-1, 7 KOs, is also an action fighter, who has fought top competition and has been very successful. While neither fighter is a household name, both are top welterweights on the brink of stardom. When DiBella announced the fight he said, “It is a fight that people are legitimately excited about. Alex Perez is one of my best prospects and I think it’s going to be a great fight with Antonin Decarie.”

Since turning professional in 2004, Perez has experienced many ups and downs outside of the ring, but he has always trained hard and remained focused when in the ring under the tutelage of trainer/manager Jose Rosario. He is selective with his company and he travels with a small circle of close friends and family that form “Team Perez”. He is in the best shape of his life and is more than ready for Saturday, recently saying, “I always fight my heart out because I want to give my three sons a life that I always dreamed of and I also know my grandmother who passed away recently is watching over me.”

After an impressive amateur career, Alex successfully turned pro but was shot in the chest just weeks later. He recovered, returned to the sport and quickly found success back in the ring. However, just when things started to progress in his career again, Alex found himself looking at 30 years in prison while facing gun and aggravated assault charges. Perez, who prides himself on his faith and loyalty to his family and friends had that loyalty repaid when Danny Serratelli, a close friend who had trained with Perez since he was a teenager took the case pro bono. With the help of “Team Perez” the truth was brought to light and he was exonerated on all charges. At that point Perez returned to the ring with a vengeance and after picking up a couple of wins he signed with promoter Lou DiBella.

Since signing with Lou DiBella he feels that he has been given the opportunities that he may have lacked in the past and he is now on the fast track to the top of the 147 pound division. After his most recent unanimous decision victory over highly regarded Francisco “El Gato” Figueroa some people have finally started to take notice, but the fight with Decarie on HBO is the biggest of his career and he is ready to show the world who “The Brick City Bullet” is. The powerful and rangy southpaw has a crowd pleasing style and always comes to fight 110%. He is a difficult match up for any fighter and has served as the main sparring partner for champions such as Felix Sturm, Miguel Cotto, and most recently, Sergio Martinez.

The Canadian-born Antonin Decarie, is the #8 ranked WBC welterweight and holder of the WBC International welterweight title. Since turning professional in 2005, Decarie has only lost one bout, a 12 round decision to Souleymane M’baye for the interm WBA World welterweight title back in 2010. Since that lone loss, Decarie has won three straight fights, including his last victory over Victor Lupo Puiu for the WBC International welterweight title.

The event is promoted by DiBella Entertainment, in association with Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing and Gary Shaw Productions. All three bouts will be aired on HBO’s Boxing After Dark beginning at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased through the Foxwoods box office by calling 1 (800) 200-2882. Tickets are priced at $45, $75, $100 and $200. Further information on Alex “The Brick City Bullet” Perez can be found on www.Brickcityboxing.com

ALEX PEREZ-ANTONIN DECARIE REPLACES CHILEMBA-ERDEI ON SEPTEMBER 29TH HBO BOXING AFTER DARK

New York, NY (9/7/12) – On Wednesday, it was announced that the Isaac Chilemba-Zsolt Erdei fight, scheduled to open up the HBO Boxing After Dark telecast live from the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods® Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT, on September 29, had been called off after Erdei suffered two broken ribs in sparring. The 10-round light heavyweight bout was one of the most highly anticipated bouts on the card, which made the cancellation that much more disappointing. Fortunately though, Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment, was able to find a replacement that has many boxing insiders and fans alike quite intrigued as welterweight contenders Alex Perez (16-0, 9KO’s) and Antonin Decarie (26-1, 7KO’s) are set to square off in a 10-round match. The bout will be for Decarie’s WBC International welterweight title. Clips of Chilemba’s bout will be shown on HBO.The card, entitled “Road to Glory”, is promoted by DiBella Entertainment, in association with Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing and Gary Shaw Productions. HBO will begin live coverage at 9:30PM.

“Anytime you lose a fight it’s an unfortunate situation, but when you lose one of this caliber it becomes even worse. Fortunately, we were able to find a replacement on very short notice, and not just any replacement, it is a fight that people are legitimately excited about,” said DiBella. “Alex Perez is one of my best prospects and I think it’s going to be a great fight with Antonin Decarie.”

The 30-year-old southpaw Perez had an impressive amateur career racking up 56 wins against just three losses and winning a New Jersey Golden Gloves Championship before turning pro in December 2004, scoring a first-round KO over Farrakhan Cuttino. Perez has had problems with his hands throughout his career resulting in stints of inactivity, including in 2007 when he was forced to sit on the sidelines for 15 months. Facing adversity is nothing new to Perez though. As an amateur, Perez was stabbed, and just three weeks after making his pro debut, he was shot in the chest. Perez, who has served as a lead sparring partner for world champions Sergio Martinez, Miguel Cotto and Felix Sturm, is coming off his two most impressive victories to date; a second-round TKO over Josh Sosa (10-1) in January and a 10-round unanimous decision over longtime contender Francisco “El Gato” Figueroa in March. Now Perez is set to see the bright lights of HBO for the first time when he squares off against the WBC #8-rated Decarie.

The Canadian-born Decarie has become a major attraction in Canada, having fought all but two of his professional fights there. The 29-year-old Decarie turned pro in 2005 and won his first title in 2008, decisioning previously unbeaten Brian Camechis to pick up the WBO NABO welterweight belt. Decarie grabbed the vacant WBC International title in his last bout, winning a dominant 12-round unanimous decision over Victor Lupo Puiu (19-1-2). Decarie’s lone defeat as a pro came against Souleymane M’baye in a bout that was for the interim WBA world welterweight championship.

“Road to Glory” is the highly anticipated HBO Boxing After Dark tripleheader, featuring some of the brightest young fighters in all of boxing looking to continue on their respective paths toward world championships. The card will take place on Saturday, September 29, at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods.
