Klimov will present an increase in competition for Maidana as he continues on the path from prospect to contender.

The 35-year-old Klimov (20-4, 10 KOs), who was born in Klimovsk, Russia, but now lives in Beverly Hills, stopped Ruben Movsesiani in his last fight on Sept. 30, 2017. That win snapped a three-fight losing streak in which he dropped decisions to former world champion Jose Pedraza, Liam Walsh and Alejandro Luna after a three-fight winning streak that led to the title fight against Pedraza.

The 22-year-old Balderas, a first-generation Mexican-American, competed on the U.S. Olympic boxing team in the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil before turning pro in April 2017. Representing Santa Maria, Calif., he most recently made his STAPLES Center debut on June 9 with a first round knockout of Alex Silva to remain unbeaten in his promising professional career.

The card will also feature former title challenger Roberto Marroquin (27-4-1, 20 KOs) against Panama’s Ricardo Nunez (20-2, 18 KOs) in a 10-round showdown, once-beaten super featherweight Ivan Delgado (11-1-1, 4 KOs) in a six-round bout and undefeated prospect Jerry Perez (7-0, 5 KOs) stepping into the ring for a six-round super featherweight fight.

The three-fight SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast (10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT) will also see Cuban heavyweight slugger Luis “The Real King Kong” Ortiz returning to action to face former title challenger Razvan Cojanu in a 10-round bout and unbeaten super lightweight contender Mario “El Azteca” Barrios taking on hard-hitting Jose Roman in a 10-round showdown.

Lopez decisions Corral

Josesito Lopez won a 10-round unanimous decision over Saul Corral in a welterweight bout at Novo at LA Live in Los Angeles.

In round ten. Lopez dropped Corral with a left hook.

Lopez, 148.4 lbs of Riverside, CA won by scores of 100-89 on all cards, and is now 35-7. Corral, 146.8 lbs of Huatabampo, MX is 21-9.

Alejandro Luna remained undefeated by winning a 10-round unanimous decision over former world title challenger Andrey Klimov in a lightweight bout.

In round five, Klimov started to bleed from around the left eye.

Luna, 137 lobs of Belloflower, CA won by scores of 98-92 twice and 97-93, and is now 22-0. Klimov, 136.8 lbs of Klimovsk, RUS is 19-4.

2016 United States Olympian Karlos Balderas stopped Thomas Smith after the 1st round of their scheduled 6-round super featherweight bout.

Balderas, who was making his pro debut, battered Smith for the better part of the lone round. Smith had enough after round.

Balderas, 131.6 lbs of Santa Maria, CA is 1-0 with 1 knockout. Smith, 131 lbs of Dallas, TX is 3-5-1.

JOSESITO LOPEZ

“Tonight was a result of all the work I put in over the last few months with Robert Garcia.

“I dropped him with a left hook, but he’s a gritty guy. He took some punishment. I was a little careful in there, though. It’s been a while since I fought some good rounds like that. There were a few times that I tried to go for the kill, but he’s tough guy and stayed alive.

“It felt good going the distance. My body felt good. More than anything, I was alert and my instincts were quick. I had good reflexes and I was sharp. I got hit with very few punches, so I think I did OK tonight.

“I’m coming along. This is my second fight coming back in two years. It’s a little process. I feel like for my next fight I’ll be that much better. I’m just focused on continuing to get better. I want to step it up for the next fight.

“We have a plan. Robert and I have only been training together for a short while, but the improvement is there and there’s more to come.

“I’m the Riverside Rocky and I want to be in exciting fights that friends and family members will remember for years. I definitely have the grit and the (guts) to get in there with the best of them. I’m a lot smarter inside the ring now.”

SAUL CORRAL

“I felt like my distance was off tonight. I think I need to spend more time sparring. I didn’t have a lot of sparring partners for this fight and I think that affected me.

“I thought when Lopez landed punches I came back strong, but I didn’t continue with the attacks because he was able to stop me.

“I just need to change some things up in training camp, and then I think I can get back to another big fight.”

ALEJANDRO LUNA

“Klimov is a very tough guy. We’ve seen him go the distance with Terrence Crawford. He’s fought the cream of the crop, so it’s an honor to get a win over him. He’s a top-level fighter, so this victory goes to show that we’re ready for any top-five lightweight.

“Our plan tonight was to work the body. We noticed he has a pretty high guard, so I wanted to go to the body to break him down little by little.

“I know that I hurt him with a couple body shots, but he recovered fast. Later on, I hit him with an overhand right that got to him, but he’s such a tough guy.

“My thing is always to please the crowd. I think this sport is as much about entertainment as it is skill and the fans want to see a show. That’s why I bring the action and do whatever I can to make it exciting for them.

“The last round wasn’t my best. He was outworking me a little, so as soon as the 10-second bell rang I wanted to close the fight out strong. Unfortunately, I opened up and we clashed heads, which caused the cut over my left eye.”

ANDREY KLIMOV

“I got staggered a little bit, but it wasn’t anything that I thought was going to turn my lights out.

“Luna is a very herky jerky fighter. The cut over my left eye came near the end of the fight when we clashed heads.

“I’m 35 years old. We’re going to go home and take some time to think about what’s next. I’ve been fortunate to do a lot of things in this sport. Now it’s time to talk with my family and decide my future.”

KARLOS BALDERAS

“We spent a lot of time sparring with great fighters to get ready for this fight. I think all the practice paid off and my speed was my biggest asset tonight.

“I think their corner stopped the fight because he was taking so many shots, but I’m not sure.

“I’m happy and excited to be a pro. I have so many people here tonight supporting me coming in from Oklahoma and Texas, so it’s an honor. I felt like a win wasn’t enough. I needed to make a statement.

“I’m going to try to stay busy. I’d like to fight every two months, so I hope to be back in June fighting again.”

THOMAS SMITH

“I really had a bad headache. After the first two punches, I thought I could take it. I know he has a good body shot, but it didn’t really affect me. But after the fourth and fifth good one, I knew it was too much. I didn’t want to go out there in the second round just to get hurt.”

At just 25-years old, Luna has already put together an impressive 21 professional wins since turning pro in 2010. Fighting out of Bellflower, California he began his 2016 campaign by stopping veteran Alan Herrera before dominating previously once-beaten Naim Nelson on his way to a 10-round decision in August. He had previously defeated former world champion Cristobal Cruz and veteran Sergio Lopez on the way to amassing his perfect record.

Originally from Russia but now living and training in Beverly Hills, Klimov was unbeaten in his first 16 pro fights as he climbed up the world rankings. After dropping a decision to Terrence Crawford in 2013, he won three straight fights to earn his world title opportunity against Jose Pedraza. Klimov owns victories over John Molina Jr., Gabino Cota and Guillermo Avila.

Fighting out of Santa Maria, California, the 20-year-old Balderas is the son of Mexican parents who immigrated to the United States to give their children a better life. Balderas had an impressive amateur career that included a 2014 Youth National Championship, four National PAL championships and an impressive run in the World Series of Boxing. His amateur career culminated in a trip to the 2016 Olympic Games where he represented the U.S. and defeated fighters from Kazakhstan and Japan before a decision loss in the quarterfinals.

Video: Pedraza vs. Kilmov: Round 7 | SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING 30th Anniversary

BRILLIANT WALSH DOMINATES KLIMOV TO EARN PEDRAZA IBF SHOT

Cromer hero Liam Walsh moved a step closer to facing IBF World Super-Featherweight Champion Jose Pedraza after outclassing Andrey Klimov over twelve rounds last night at the Harrow Leisure Centre. Walsh produced a punch perfect performance to take a unanimous decision with scores of 119-108, 120-107 and 120-107 from the judges.

After a cagey opening round the classy Walsh began to take control of the fight, doubling up on his jab and landing some well-timed shots. It was more of the same in the third as Walsh looked the quicker and more agile of the two.

Walsh dropped his Russian opponent to the canvas with a straight right at the very end of the fifth round and Klimov was given the mandatory eight count. The rowdy ‘Farmy Army’ roared Walsh on as he dominated the latter rounds of the fight. Rochdale born Walsh continued to score with crisp jabs and right hands in the championship rounds and was triumphantly lifted into the air by his brother Michael after the final bell.

Speaking to BBC Radio Norfolk after the fight Walsh said: “I need to watch the fight back. Everyone has told me it was brilliant but I need to watch it back because I feel like I could have done better. I always want to win at all costs but a very close second is to keep fans entertained!

“Everyone is telling me it was a world class performance so maybe I’m being a bit daft. I felt in control and I felt like he couldn’t really hurt me. He was consistent, solid and he stuck to his guns. He didn’t force himself and he didn’t do anything crazy to leave gaps so it was difficult to prise him open.

After his impressive win over Klimov, Walsh now find himself in line to face Puerto Rican Champion Jose Pedraza. Stylish southpaw Walsh is willing to travel anywhere in the world to fulfill his destiny.

“I don’t know anything about the Pedraza fight yet, I haven’t given it any thought. If I had my way it would 100% be in Norwich, if not then we’ll travel away. Let’s travel to America. Let’s get booed out of the arena with all of the odds against me! Let’s be the underdog! I’ll perform under that pressure I’m sure. I’ll go anywhere to fight Pedraza. A ring is a ring to me!”

LIAM WALSH TO FACE ANDREY KLIMOV IN IBF FINAL ELIMINATOR ON 8TH OCTOBER IN HARROW TOM BAKER TO FACE MILES SHINKWIN ON UNDERCARD

Cromer’s Liam Walsh (20-0; 14KOs) will face Russian Andrey Klimov (19-2-0; 9KOs) in a Final Eliminator for the IBF World Super Featherweight Title on Saturday 8th October at Harrow Leisure Centre. The fight will top an action packed bill promoted by Frank Warren and Andy Ayling which will be televised live and exclusive in the UK on BoxNation.

Klimov, a California resident, made an unsuccessful challenge to reigning IBF World Super Featherweight Champion Jose Pedraza last year, but is set to be the toughest test of Walsh’s career which has so far seen him lift the British and Commonwealth Super Featherweight titles and the WBO European Lightweight title.

Walsh comes into the contest fresh off an 8 round TKO win over Troy James at the Copper Box on 30th April in defence of his British Super Featherweight title.

Should the Cromer man emerge victorious in Harrow, it will be the culmination of a long road back to a World title shot, after a car crash halted plans for Walsh to challenge former WBO Lightweight Champion Ricky Burns back in 2012.

Walsh said: “I believe it’s my destiny to become World Champion and I’m now within touching distance. I’ve dedicated my whole life to boxing and now it’s time to go to the next level and reap the rewards.”

The undercard for Walsh v Klimov will feature Tom Baker’s English Light Heavyweight Title defence against Miles Shinkwin. Long term rivals Baker and Shinkwin are set to face off in a long touted showdown between the Queensberry Promotions stablemates after Andy Ayling won the purse bid for the contest earlier this month.

Also on the undercard will be Harrow’s own Mitchell Smith, who looks to get back to winning ways and back on track after an absence caused by injuries. Whilst his brother Jez Smith will also be in action on the card.

Also in action are a selection of great emerging talents including: Boy Jones Jr, D.P. Carr, Sanjeev Sahota, Charlie Driscoll, Archie Sharp, Sam McNess, Ben Smith, Prince Patel and Ryan Gardener.

Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.co.uk and are priced at £40 and £60.

WITH THE BELT AROUND HIS WAIST NEWLY CROWNED IBF CHAMPION JOSE PEDRAZA CEMENTS HIMSELF AS PUERTO RICO’S NEXT BIG STAR

New York, NY (6/18/15) – This past Saturday, Puerto Rico’s Jose “The Sniper” Pedraza fulfilled a lifelong dream when he picked up the IBF world super featherweight championship with a flawless performance against once-beaten contender Andrey Klimov. With the impressive showing, Pedraza, who improved to a perfect 20-0, 12KO’s, with the near shutout victory, clearly cemented himself as the next rising star to come out of the island.

“Words cannot express how happy I am right now,” said Pedraza. “I have sacrificed my life for the last 14 years to become a world champion. This was a long, hard road, but it is a dream come true. Every fighter thinks about this day, and now that I am here, I plan on reigning for many years to come. I want to thank my manager Al Haymon, my father, and my promoters for believing in me and giving me this opportunity.”

“From Wilfredo Gomez to Felix Trinidad to Miguel Cotto, Puerto Rico has a legendary boxing history. Former Olympian Jose Pedraza, a newly crowned world champion, continues this great tradition. The possibilities are limitless for this young star, as he begins his title reign and continues to carry the mantel of great Puerto Rican champions,” said promoter Lou DiBella.

“I am extremely happy and excited for Jose and what the future holds for him. He has spent many years, and countless hours of work to get to this point. It is an honor to be a part of this promotional team and I’m thrilled to be working with Al Haymon and my good friend and partner Lou DiBella in guiding Jose’s future,” said promoter Javier Bustillo.

“Pedraza once again showed he’s an elite fighter winning his first world title in dominating fashion,” said promoter Gary Shaw. “When I discovered him in the amateurs, I knew he was a special talent. His ability to make adjustments on the fly is what separates him from the rest of the champions. Puerto Rico has a shining star in Pedraza that they can be proud of.”

Ever since he first turned pro in 2011, there have been very high hopes for Pedraza. An outstanding amateur who represented his native Puerto Rico at the 2008 Olympic games, Pedraza longed to become a part of the nation’s storied history of great champions and contenders. Over the next four-plus years, Pedraza steadily moved up the ranks of the super featherweight division, garnering rave reviews in the process and setting himself up for a crack at his first world title shot with a dominant 12-round unanimous decision over fellow top-contender Michael Farenas in November of last year.

Going into the fight, there were questions on how the 26-year-old 2008 Olympian would approach his opponent. Klimov had only been defeated once before, losing a decision to the 2014 Fighter of the Year Terence Crawford back in 2013 and was known as a hard-nosed and relentless pressure fighter. Pedraza stated before the contest that he would use his boxing ability to neutralize Klimov’s attack, but also that he wouldn’t be afraid to stand toe-to-toe with the tough Russian. Just as advertised, Pedraza did exactly that, having his way against Klimov from the outset. Round after round, Pedraza controlled the pace behind his lightning-quick combinations and footwork, consistently beating Klimov to the punch and tattooing him with hard shots to the body and head. In the middle rounds, Pedraza switched from southpaw to orthodox, and began walking Klimov down, dishing out severe punishment that began to show more and more on Klimov’s battered face. Klimov was able to make it to the final bell, but just couldn’t muster up much of anything else, as he was thoroughly dominated in what was easily Pedraza’s most impressive showing to date.

The same night Pedraza claimed his IBF crown on Showtime, another highly regarded up-and-coming Puerto Rican star saw action, as Felix Verdejo made his HBO debut, claiming a 10-round decision victory over Ivan Najera. There have been ongoing debates over the past couple of years as to who would emerge as Puerto Rico’s next great champion. Before his fight on Saturday night, the humble Pedraza stated that Verdejo “was a good fighter, and a good person, but Jose Pedraza will be Puerto Rico’s next world champion.” And right he was.

Pedraza’s promoters DiBella Entertainment, Universal Promotions, and Gary Shaw productions and advisor Al Haymon are already planning his first defense. An announcement will be made in the coming monthsas to whom Pedraza will face and where the defense will take place. However, one thing is for sure: Pedraza would love to make his first defense at home.

“Winning a world title has been a lifelong dream of mine. Now that I have the belt, I would love nothing more in the world than to make my first defense in Puerto Rico in front of all my great fans.”

Cotto destroys Rodriguez in three

Cotto_rodriguez_1
Miguel Cotto brought back memories of the past as he knocked out Delvin Rodriguez in round three of their scheduled twelve round Jr. Middleweight bout at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.

Cotto came out in round one by focusing his left to the body. Cotto continued his sharp shooting in round two and he finished the frame with a huge right and left to the chin.

Cotto_rodriguez_2
In round three, it took just one left hook to the jaw that sent Rodriguez down in front of the ropes and referee Frank Santore stopped the fight immediately at 18 seconds of round three.

Cotto, 153.25 lbs of Caguas, PR will now seek a big fight with a record of 38-4 with 31 knockouts. Rodriguez, 154 lbs of Danbury, CT is now 28-7-3

Crawford_Klimov
Terrence Crawford scored a lack luster ten round unanimous decision over Andery Klimov in a fight that featured two undefeated Lightweights.

Crawford boxed from the pocket and switched to southpaw in round two. Crawford stayed there for the rest of the fight and was content on jabbing and landing an occasional straight left. Klimov did a little more then stick out the jab and never really threw any punches with purpose. Neither guy was ever in any type of danger. The fight was void of action until the final bell when the two engaged for the last ten seconds that saw Crawford land a hard left to the body and right to the head.

Crawford, 134 1/2 lbs of Omaha, NE won by scores of 100-90 on all cards and is now 22-0. Klimov, 134 1/2 lbs of Russia is now 16-1.

Super Prospect Felix Verdejo scored a second round stoppage over Gary Eyer in a scheduled six round Super featherweight bout.

Verdejo wobbled Eyer a couple of times in round one. Verdejo landed ripping shots in round two that started Eyer’s nose to leak blood. After the doctor looked at Eyer’s nose, Verdejo opened up couple of rights and two wicked left hooks that forced referee Tellis Asselminios to stop the bout at 2:52 of round two.

Verdejo, 133 1/2 lbs of San Juan, PR is now 8-0 with six knockouts. Eyer, 132 1/2 lbs of Duluth, MN is now 11-4-1.

Crawford to take on Klimov as part of Cotto – Rodriguez card

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, undefeated Lightweights Terrence Crawford and Andrey Klimov will do battle on October 5th as the televised co-feature to Miguel Cotto taking on Delvin Rodriguez in Orlando on HBO.

“Hopefully, Crawford can look good with this guy and keep rising up the rankings in the lightweight division,” said Top Rank vice=president Carl Moretti said.

Klimov (16-0, 8 KOs), 31, of Russia, has been fighting primarily in the United States for the past two years and scored his biggest win on June 7, when he scored a majority decision against former title challenger and longtime contender John Molina.

“The win over Molina on ESPN2 was a good win,” Moretti said of the fight that headlined a “Friday Night Fights” card. “The fact that Klimov is undefeated and has a quality amateur background should make this interesting. He’ll be there to win and to give Crawford all he wants.
