I’m ready to put on another exciting fight and show even more of what I can do on March 15. The Irish will definitely be out in force for this show. I’m only 22 years old and this is my second time headlining at Madison Square Garden and I look forward to making it my second home. Many thanks to Tom Loeffler, Dana White and my trainer Freddie Roach for all their support.”

Reshat Mati

“Thanks very much to Tom Loeffler and 360 Promotions for this opportunity. The 140lb. division is the most stacked division and my game here is to fight and win. The Albanians will also be in the house on March 15 and I’ll be ready to put on a great show for everyone.”

Cletus Seldin

“Finally, I’m back at Madison Square Garden. I’m excited and going to show the best version of ‘The Hebrew Hammer’. I’m 27-1 with 23 knockouts and ranked #9 in the world by the WBA. If there’s ever been a time for a Jew in New York City to be fighting at the Garden it’s now. On March 15, Irish crowd, Jewish crowd; were ready to rock and roll.”

Derrick Webster

“Thanks very much for the opportunity. This is a great card to be a part of. I’m 16-17 years in the game and never turned down a fight. I’m going to have a world championship level training camp. I know Joe will come ready and I’ll definitely come ready on March 15.”

Nisa Rodriguez

“I want to thank everyone for helping make this happen. It’s a pleasure to be back where it all started for me in the amateurs. The first time I fought at Madison Square Garden I was 17 years old and I’m very happy to make my pro debut there.”

Tom Loeffler

“Since we announced this event, I’ve had a wealth of promoters, managers and fighters who want to be part of March 15, the St. Patrick’s Day Weekend event at The Theater at Madison Square Garden and we’re very happy to have the opportunity to work with these select fighters for the added value they bring to the show.”

“It’s great to be promoting back at Madison Square Garden, The Mecca of Boxing. Ever since I managed Kevin Kelley in the late 90’s at MSG I realized the value of fighting at the Garden. Anytime we can promote at Madison Square Garden, it’s a golden opportunity.”

“I also want to give a big shout out to Dana White and UFC FIGHT PASS for all their support of 360 Promotions and Callum Walsh.”

Lou DiBella

“This is a really great event and really important to keep up our tradition of having a great show on St. Patrick’s Day. This is a card that’s set up in a tremendous manner. It’s great to see Nisa here, a New York City Police Officer, Reshat who has the talent to become a star in boxing and Cletus who’s like the Engelbert Humperdinck of boxing. Derrick Webster is the toughest opponent Joe Ward has fought. It’s time for Joe to step up and that’s why we made the fight.”

CLETUS SELDIN vs UNDEFEATED RACHID JKITOU HEADLINES A THRILLING “ROCKIN’ FIGHTS” ON JUNE 11 IN LONG ISLAND, NY

Long Island, New York (June 1, 2022) – “Rockin’ Fights” 42 is bringing sizzling KO heat to The Paramount on Saturday, June 11 as Star Boxing is pleased to announce a thrilling 10 round championship main event between two knockout artists.

Fight fans rejoice, it’s a “Hammer Holiday” as #11 (WBA) and #15 (IBF) world rated super lightweight, CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN (Shirley, NY, 26-1 22 KO’s) puts his NABA Super Lightweight Title on the line against undefeated French challenger RACHID JKITOU (Marrakesh, Morocco, 28-0 20 KO’s) in a 10 round main event featuring two massive punchers that has knockout finish potential with every punch.

With this main event, Seldin will be making his record breaking 18th appearance at The Paramount. He already has the honored distinction of the most victories and knockout wins in “Rockin’ Fights” series history. Having fought in the very first “Rockin Fights” back in 2011, Seldin has since won 17 bouts at The Paramount, 14 of which came by way of vicious knockout. To say his ring moniker “Hebrew Hammer” proceeds him is an understatement. Seldin, a local boxing star, is also one of only three fighters in history to have fought in featured bouts on HBO In back-to-back months, a distinction shared with only boxing legends, Roy Jones Jr. and Mike Tyson. An emphatic win against a dangerous opponent in Jkitou will put Seldin into world title contention.

Seldin earned his NABA super lightweight title in 2019 when he stopped multi-time world champion and former undisputed champion, Zab Judah in the eleventh round at Turning Stone. Since then, Seldin has defended his title twice, most recently having defeated well respected William Silva (entered fight: 28-3 16KO’s) by devastating 7th round KO at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn this past October on TrillerVerz. June 11 will be the third time Seldin sets out to defend his NABA Title.

“I am excited to be back home after all these years.” said Seldin. “Nothing can compare to The Paramount crowds and amazing moments that I have built there over the years. This is a great fight against an undefeated fighter and I plan on defending my NABA title to get a big opportunity after this victory.”

Jkitou is a dangerous undefeated puncher who will put his perfect record on the line against Seldin, in the hopes of landing one punch to not only take home the NABA Super Lightweight Title, but to also put himself in direct position for world title contention. Jkitou is a former WBC Mediterranean, and French National Champion who fights in an aggressive pressure-filled style throwing devastating combinations. The French born Jkitou recently made the move to America in hopes of landing a big opportunity to put himself in the mix on the world stage, which he now has on June 11 at the Paramount.

Rachid Jkitou had this to say about the fight “I am coming to take the NABA Title from Cletus Seldin on June 11. I am excited for this opportunity and to be back in the ring on a big stage. Thank you to my team and to Star Boxing.”

As they say, when opportunity knocks, open the door – but under these circumstances beware, because opportunity comes in the form of two devastating punchers with a career’s worth of dedication on the line and only one man standing in the way. With a 78% knockout ratio for Seldin, and a 71% knockout ratio for Jkitou, the writing is on the wall for what should be an absolutely thrilling main event . . . while it lasts, ‘don’t blink’.

“As a boxing fan you cannot ask for something better than this main event,” said Star Boxing CEO JOE DEGUARDIA. “Two fighters in Cletus Seldin and Rachid Jkitou who put it all on the line every fight, willing to let their hands go to score a knockout. A lot is on the line in this fight and I commend both Cletus and Rachid for not backing down, taking a tough fight in order to take the next step towards world title contention. June 11 at the Paramount will be can’t miss action.”

STAR BOXING YEAR IN REVIEW

New York (January 2, 2021) – One year ago, a collective sigh of relief could be heard across the globe as the year changed from 2020 to 2021. At the change of a number, hope began to amass amongst the public that a COVID riddled world would finally be put behind us, and normalcy would be restored. While safety measures were put in place, and fight bubbles continued to serve its purpose, the world finally got back to boxing.

The year was scheduled to start off with a bang, as the “Common Man,” Long Island light heavyweight hero, JOE SMITH JR. (27-3 21KO’s) prepared for his second crack at world title glory, against crafty Russian veteran MAXIM VLASOV in mid-February at the MGM in Las Vegas on ESPN. Unfortunately, a stern reminder of the realties of COVID postponed the fight when Vlasov tested positive just two days before the world title fight. Like the resilient working man that he is, Smith Jr. would not be deterred. A change of date and venue saw the fight moved to Tulsa Oklahoma (April 10), but the goal and result remained the same. In a thrilling 12-round fight, Smith Jr. strapped his boots a bit tighter, bit down hard in the championship rounds, and gutted out the victory by majority decision to win the WBO World Light Heavyweight World Championship.
Joe Smith Jr. will start off Star Boxing’s 2022 in his first world title defense against fellow light heavyweight banger, by way of the United Kingdom, CALLUM JOHNSON (20-1 14KO’s) on January 15 at Turning Stone Resort Casino, LIVE on ESPN.

Through the uncertainty, Hall of Fame promoter Joe DeGuardia remained steadfast, finding high level opportunities for the vast and talented Star Boxing stable after the Joe Smith Jr. World Championship victory, Upset minded heavyweight CARLOS TAKAM (39-6-1 28KO’s) would board a flight in late July and cross the Atlantic Ocean into enemy territory to take on #1 heavyweight contender JOE JOYCE in London. Takam brought the fight to Joyce over the first five-rounds, landing an overhand right that seemed to never miss its target. The uneasy tension of the UK crowd could be felt as Takam barreled on, winning on all judge’s scorecards. In the sixth-round, Joyce landed a stiff combination unsteadying the former Cameroon Olympian, who maintained a defense during the onslaught, deflecting much of the Joyce attack. Controversary ensured as the referee jumped in, stopping the fight, much to the distain of Takam who immediately protested. As a result of the stoppage, Joyce got the TKO-6 victory, but Takam once again validated his reputation in the boxing world.
Star Boxing’s critically acclaimed “Rockin’ Fights” series came back from a 19-month COVID hiatus to a triumphant return to The Paramount in Huntington New York for two shows in 2021. Rockin’ Fights 39 took place on September 4th and Rockin’ Fights 40 followed on November 11th.

At November’s Rockin’ Fights 40, recently signed Current IBO World Super Featherweight Champion, Italian, MICHAEL “LONE WOLF” MAGNESI (20-0 12KO’s) got right to work making his US debut against EUGENE LAGOS in the main event of “Rockin’ Fights 40”, resiliently getting off of the deck in the first round to clobber Lagos with a perfect right hand to the body, then to the head, reminding fans of former World Champ Arturo Gatti. Magnesi awed the crowd in an inspiring third-round TKO victory, planting his Italian flag in the US as a real force at 130 lbs.

Undefeated super lightweight and Paramount grown ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS (12-0 4KO’s) appeared on both of Star Boxing’s 2021 Paramount shows, showcasing his talents in front of his hometown fanbase, picking up two unanimous decision victories.
2021 also saw Author, ringside analyst and former WBO World Champion, CHRIS ALGIERI (25-4 9KO’s) return to the ring for the first time after two years of pandemic hiatus in August to co-feature on the TrillerVerz card at the Hulu Theatre at MSG. Algieri took Brooklynite MIKEL LESSPIERRE to school over ten-rounds earning a wide-spread unanimous decision. Parlaying this domination, Algieri took his chances in Liverpool England (December 11) against undefeated rising welterweight prospect, CONOR BENN. After a tense three rounds, with Algieri up against the ropes, Benn connected with a crisp and brutal one two combination in the fourth immediately ending the fight.

The fourth quarter of 2021 proved extremely busy as Star Boxing’s talent was once again on display on Triller. Star Boxing rolled into the Barclays Center in Brooklyn with both the main event and co-feature of another boxing/music combined event. The main event featured the return of knockout artist and NABA Super Lightweight Champion, CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN (26-1 22KO’s) against stablemate WILLIAM SILVA (28-4 16KO’s). The North American title fight lived up to the hype as Seldin and Silva went to battle over six fan friendly rounds that had fans on the edge of their seats. Early in the seventh Seldin landed his quintessential missile overhand right that sent Silva to the canvas where he would remain for several minutes, before thankfully getting to his feet. The seventh round KO victory put Seldin back on the map at 140 lbs. and is now currently world rated #8 by the WBA and #14 by the IBF.

In the co-feature bout, Queens native DANNY “EL GALLO” GONZALEZ (20-3-1 7KO’s) would take on PETROS ANANYAN for the vacant WBA Continental America’s Title over ten-rounds. After a slow start Gonzalez came on heavy in the back half of the fight, overcoming a gash on his forehead that left the ring, Danny himself, and everyone involved a bloody mess. The bloody battle was riveting and sensational. The gash would cause Gonzalez to need 25 stitches in his face post fight. Gonzalez fell just short in the fight by a razor thin close majority decision but earned the respect of boxing fans everywhere for his performance.

WBC Continental America’s Cruiserweight Champion, SIMONE “TYSON” FEDERICI (18-2-1 8KO’s) improved with a points decision in his native Italy in March and was set to defend his title against Massachusetts product, Vincenzo Carita, until Carita broke a rib in training and the fight was postponed. Be on the lookout for this fight in early 2022.

Star Boxing was pleased to add alongside its 2021 signings of Vargas and Magnesi, Iraqi born Kurd, BADIEN “BAD MAN” HASSO (19-0 10KO’s) who will be campaigning at Middleweight.

2021 also saw many of Star Boxing’s prospects and contenders continue their rise up the ratings. After picking up a TKO victory in Kentucky earlier in the year, undefeated Ukrainian Super Bantamweight OLEH “UKRAINIAN PITBULL” DOVHUN (13-0 5KO’s) defeated Glenn Dezurn in Pittsburgh this past November, to win the NABA Super Bantamweight Title. With the victory Dovhun is now rated #6 in the world by the WBA.

In May, fellow Pittsburgh based Ukrainian, LYUBOMYR “THE DEMOLITION MAN” PINCHUK (13-2-1 8KO’s) returned to his natural cruiserweight division and dominated Andrew Satterfield for a first round TKO victory.

Undefeated French Super Welterweight DAVID PAPOT defeated Evgeny Terentiev for the IBA World Title, and at the close of the year, is world rated #6 by the WBO, and #10 by the WBA.

?Belgium based Bridgerweight, JOEL DJEKO jumped to heavyweight and took his shot at French Olympian TONY YOKA in Yoka’s backyard. Djeko made a great account for himself, getting late into the 12th, but Yoka proved to be too much coming away with the victory. Djeko will be campaigning in the WBC’s Bridgerweight division and is world rated #4 by the WBC’s new weight class.

Undefeated Light Heavyweight prospect RICHIE “POPEYE THE SAILOR MAN” RIVERA (21-0 16KO’s) picked up three wins in 2021, traveling to Orlando, Massachusetts, and Colombia in the process.

?Highly touted Irish prospects, “SUPERFLY” TONY BROWNE hit the road 6 times in 2021, finishing the year with a record of 5-1 1KO, and “THE SILENT ASSASIN” RYAN O’ROURKE continued his unbeaten streak with another three victories, improving to 8-0 1KO.

Undefeated Moldovan born, Irish based prospect VICTOR “SLICK VIC” RABEI improved to 11-0 4KO’s before being sidelined by injury and will look to bounce back in 2022.

Danbury super lightweight, OMAR “THE BEAST” BORDOY(11-1 3KO’s) added a victory to his record with a wide unanimous decision in Derry New Hampshire.
?
23-year-old Dominican banger SANDERSON DIAZ (14-0 11KO’s) notched two additional second-round KO’s to his record in 2021, and looks to make landfall in the US in 2022.

Star Boxing CEO JOE DEGUARDIA stated: “Certainly 2021 has been challenging with continued uncertainties. With that said, I am proud of our team (staff and fighters) who bit down, rolled with the punches, and really came roaring to the finish. I’m happy we were able to get our boxers significant opportunities that have put them in position to have a very successful 2022, and thrilled by the WBO World Championship earned by Joe Smith Jr. The business of boxing is much like boxing itself, and 2021 was certainly a year full of bobbing and weaving, being hit and hitting back. But, at its close, all of us at Star Boxing are proud of our team and excited for what’s to come. On behalf of all of us, I wish you a happy and healthy new year, and we hope to see you in two weeks on January 15th for Joe Smith Jr.’s world title defense against fellow light heavyweight banger, Callum Smith at Turning Stone live on ESPN!”

STAR BOXING REPRESENTS IN NEW WBA WORLD RATINGS

NEW YORK, NY (Dec. 3, 2021) — As the year is coming to a close, fighters are jockeying for world ratings to attain world title aspirations in the first half of 2022. On December 1st the WBA announced its newest rankings and the Star Boxing stable was well represented.

In November, undefeated Ukrainian super bantamweight OLEH “UKRAINIAN PITBULL” DOVHUN (13-0 5KO’s) went to battle with Glenn Dezurn in Pittsburgh for the NABA Super Bantamweight Title. Sweeping the cards in dominating fashion, Dovhun secured the NABA championship and as the saying goes, to the victor goes the spoils. Needless to say, Dovhun was not disappointed when the WBA announced him as their #6 world rated super bantamweight on Wednesday morning.

As of Wednesday’s announcement, Seldin is now rated #8 by the WBA and is looking towards a massive 2022. Seldin is also rated #14 by the IBF at 140 lbs.

Papot, a former WBA Continental Middleweight Champion, now campaigning at super welterweight will look to place himself into world title contention with a victory in the onset of 2022. Papot is also world rated #6 by the WBO.

“I was pleased to be able to give our guys the great news of their new ratings with the WBA,” said Star Boxing CEO JOE DEGUARDIA?. “I commend the WBA in their effort of consolidating its title and ensuring that fighters who put in the work and take the tough fights are rewarded with opportunities such as being rated in the top 10 and eventually fighting for world titles. I congratulate Oleh, Cletus and David on this great accomplishment and look forward to big fights in 2022 for each of them.”

Seldin Knocks Out Silva in 7

Cletus Seldin scored a vicious 7th round stoppage over William Silva in a scheduled 10-round super lightweight bout at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

In round seven, Seldin unleashed a perfect overhand right to the chin and another straight right put Silva down and out at 24 seconds.

Seldin, 139.1 lbs of Brooklyn, NY is 26-1 with 22 knockouts. Silva, 139 lbs of Sao Paulo, BRA is 28-4.

Said a euphoric Seldin after the victory, “This was the hardest training in my life. Just a year ago I was sleeping on the floor, after three cancellations of a fight.  I am 100% giving myself an A+ on this, for all the hard work and determination I had to get here.”

“We always went for body, head, body, head, and coming up with the right hand. If you go back and look at what my trainer said for that round, he said, ‘two jabs and throw a short overhand right.’ He wasn’t getting up after I landed those two big right hands.”

“The distance was close and I was able to land them. I went for the home run on that right-hand combination and got the knockout.”

Ananyan Decisions Gonzalez

Petros Ananyan won a 10-round majority decision over Daniel Gonzalez in a super lightweight contest.

In round four, Gonzalez began to bleed from his nose. That fight featured terrific back and forth action with the difference being the 9th round where Ananyan battered the bloody face of Gonzalez.

Ananyan landed 106 of 415 punches; Gonzalez was 103 of 442.

Ananyan, 139.4 lbs of Brooklyn, NY won by scores of 96-94 twice and 95-95 and is now 16-2-2. Gonzalez, 138.6 lbs of Woodhaven, NY is 20-3-1.

“This was a tough fight but I’m very happy with my performance. I’m ready now for better competition and look forward to bigger fights in the near future,” said Ananyan after the victory.

Madera stops Najmitdonov after five

CLETUS SELDIN : THE HEBREW HAMMER FROM SHIRLEY TO BOXING’S WORLD STAGE

Brooklyn, New York (October 16, 2021)

How does a kid from Shirley Long Island make it onto the world stage of professional prize fighting? Enter, CLETUS SELDIN (Shirley, NY 25-1 21KO’s). Seldin is set to defend his NABA Super Lightweight title against tough Brazilian, WILLIAM SILVA (28-3 16KO’s) in a 10-round cross-roads fight at Triller Fight Club tonight (10/16) live from the Barclays Center.

Seldin grew up on Long Island’s south shore and from a young age had a no quit attitude. While attending Longwood high school, Cletus was a talented multi-sport athlete as both a state champion wrestler and starting cornerback for the Long Island Champion Longwood Lions. It was during this time Cletus decided he would become a professional athlete.

At 5’7″, a professional football career was out of reach. Instead, Seldin turned his sights to becoming a professional body builder, competing in a few meets. While finding some success, it would not be his passion. At the age of 22, Cletus walked into a boxing gym for the first time.

After a year of getting beat up, Cletus began to see a change, becoming the aggressor – and the “Hebrew Hammer” was born. Cletus’ strong work ethic and hunger to win translated to dominance in the ring. His come forward, throwback style reminiscent of the greats of boxing’s past like Marciano created a fear in his opponents. He becomes the cerebral assassin that abuts you with the left and puts you to sleep with the “Hebrew Hammer” right.

Saturday night marks an important test for Seldin. Entering the fight on a four-bout knockout streak and, more importantly, on the fringe of world title contention. In his way is stablemate, William Silva, who finds himself in the same position as Seldin, but simply on the other side of the ring. Only one man will have his hand raised, and to the victor goes the spoils. Will the “Hebrew Hammer” put an abrupt stop the fight as he has done 21 times prior, or will Silva put out the flame and take the belt and victory back to Brazil? Tune in tonight to find out.

Silva confident ahead of Seldin showdown

St. Petersburg, FL (October 7, 2021) –Willian “Baby Face” Silva will battle Cletus “Hebrew Hammer” Seldin for the NABA Super Lightweight title Saturday, October 16 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

Originally from Brazil and currently residing in Florida, Silva has an excellent professional record of 28 wins with 3 defeats and 18 wins by knockout. The 33 year old has faced the likes of undisputed lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez, top rated Arnold Barboza and Felix Verdejo.

One of New York’s most popular fighters, Seldin will be fighting for the 22nd time in the Empire State. The Long Island native enters the ring with an excellent 25-1 record and 21 wins by stoppage. Notable fighters he’s defeated include Zab Judah and Roberto Ortiz.

A win by Seldin brings him closer to a world title shot but Silva has other plans.

“This is a great opportunity and I’m going to make the most of,” Silva said from his training camp in St. Petersburg, FL. “Seldin is a good opponent but I have the necessary skills to have my hands raised on October 16. I also know a win in this fight would prove that I am among the best fighters in my division and move me closer to my goal of winning a world title.”

Silva’s manager, Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Management, is excited and believes his fighter will emerge victorious.

“Willian was actually scheduled to fight in October 16 in Florida before this fight came together. It’s almost as if this was meant to happen and I know Silva has what it takes to pull this out. He’s training with Hall of Fame coach Jim McLaughlin, who’s brought out the best in him. Seldin is in for a big surprise!”

The bout airs live on Triller and precedes the Verzuz battle between hip hop legends Big Daddy Kane and KRS-One. Both fighters are promoted by Star Boxing.

CLETUS SELDIN SLUGS HIS WAY TO A TKO VICTORY OVER LUIS FLOREZ IN A BLOOD BATH THRILLER

New York, February 29, 2020–Star Boxing’s “Rockin’ Fights” series was yet again a thriller. Boxing fans around the world were treated to a sensational night of fights from start to finish at the sold-out Paramount, in Huntington, Long Island. If you missed the action, be sure to catch up via FITE.TV, HERE.

Long Island’s, NABA Super Lightweight Champion, CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN (now 25-1 21KO’s) and LUIS FLOREZ (now 25-16 21KO’s) fought an electric battle. Seldin came out swinging, in classic “Hebrew Hammer” fashion. Florez, a late replacement, was able to weather the early Seldin storm, and settle in for what would be a gritty seven rounds. Seldin continued his come forward attack, controlling the action, while Florez attempted to counter with bombs, using his length and reach advantage to keep Seldin at bay.

In the 6-round, a vicious cut opened over the left eye of Florez, turning the already competitive fight into a bloodbath. Pinning the Colombian in the corner, Seldin landed a massive right hand that sent blood gushing. As Seldin continued the onslaught putting together combinations to both the head and the body, Florez’s cut worsened and the effect of Seldin’s relentless pressure on Florez was evident. Referee Al LoBianco had seen enough, calling a halt to the action at the 1:11 mark in the 7th round. With the victory Seldin defended his NABA title and improves to 25-1 (21KO’s).

Seldin had this to say about the victory, “I want to thank you all for coming out. This guy was a short notice, tough dude. My trainer said you have to dig deep and stay in his face and that’s what I did. That guy [Florez] can take a punch. Let’s get to the next one, let’s go.”

In the co-main event, world rated heavyweight CARLOS TAKAM (now 38-5-1 28KO’s) went to battle with Brazilian, FABIO MALDONADO (26-4 25KO’S). Takam established himself as the superior skilled fighter from the opening bell, but Maldonado, to his credit, was a warrior, eating shots, and waving on Takam to bring more. Takam’s game plan was clear, attack the body and work his way up. In the 5th, Takam landed three consecutive thudding body shots that even had the sold-out crowd groaning in pain. Takam dominated the fight with a commanding performance, winning by unanimous decision with scores of 100-89 (x2), 100-90. Takam improves to 38-5 1 (28KO’s).

Takam was direct in speaking about his victory, “Thank you all for the support. We keep on going!”

ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS (now 6-0 1KO) took a step up against veteran ANTONIO SANCHEZ (now 6-9-1 3KO’s) in a 6-round welterweight bout. The rowdy crowd were on their feet as El Toro and Sanchez went to war over the full six rounds. The sensational final twenty seconds of round six saw both men trading shots at will, caution thrown to the wind and only the desire of victory left in the ring. See the final twenty seconds of the fight HERE. At the final bell the judges found in favor of Vargas by unanimous decision. (60-54 (x2), 59-55).

WENDY “HAITIAN FIRE” TOUSSAINT (now 11-0 5KO’s) picked up exactly where he left off, with a devasting knockout victory over the extremely tough, JERMAINE “REAL STEEL” CORLEY (now 3-9-1 1KO). Corley has battled with top prospects, five of his last six being undefeated. Upsetting two of those prospects, Corley entered with same mindset, however Toussaint would have none of it, landing a devastating right hand that sent Corley to the canvas. To Corley’s credit he got up ready to fight, however referee LoBianco did not like what he saw, and called a stop to the fight at 1:52 in the 2nd of the scheduled 6-round fight. Toussaint improves to 11-0 (5KO’s).

Union electrician (local 3) BARKIM “BARBELIEVES” LOGAN (now 1-0 1KO) battered JACKSON DE SOUZA (now 0-2) over their 4-round fight, as Logan earns the victory in his pro-debut via 3rd round TKO.

PRINCE SLAUGHTER (now 1-0 1KO)impressed in his pro debut, defeating decorated amateur, AHMET “THE TURKISH WOLF” TUNCEL (now 0-1) by a 2nd round TKO. AFUNWA KING (now 2-1 1KO) defeated NADIM SALLOUM (now 1-1) by majority decision. (39-37 (x2) King, 38-38 draw).

Star Boxing CEO JOE DEGUARDIA had this to say about last nights “Rockin’ Fights” 38, “The action definitely lived up to the hype. Cletus Seldin once again showed his relentless determination, pressure and power in a war with Luis Florez. Carlos Takam dominated, and is on the sure path to a major heavyweight showdown, and Wendy Toussaint was able to display his skill, and show why we we believe he will be a future world champion. Thank you to all of those that came out to The Paramount and tuned in around the world on FITE.TV and FightNetwork. We are looking forward to the next “Rockin’ Fights” on May 8th – we hope to see you there!”

CLETUS SELDIN DEFENDS NABA AGAINST NEW FOE FEB 28 SET TO FACE THUNDEROUS SLUGGER LUIS FLOREZ AT “ROCKIN’ FIGHTS” THIS FRIDAY

CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN (Shirley, Long Island 24-1 20KO’S) is set to defend his NABA Super Lightweight Title against thunderous Colombian slugger, LUIS FLOREZ (Puerto Libertador, Colombia 25-15 21KO’s), this Friday (2/28) night at The Paramount, after former opponent, Humberto Martinez pulled out for medical reasons.

Florez, who has 21 KO’s in his 25 wins, will take on Long Island’s premier knockout artist, Cletus Seldin, who has 20 KO’s in 24 wins. Both fighters are known for their punching power and devasting knockouts. Florez has the distinction of being the only man to defeat multi-time world champion, and current WBC World Champion, MIGUEL BERCHELT’s (37-1, 33KO’s), beating Berchelt via a huge first-round knockout upset. Florez also has other impressive opponents of top talent that includes bouts against world class level fighters, REGIS PROGRAIS (then 17-0 15KO’s) and JAMEL HERRING (then 14-0 8KO’s). Florez has also challenged for the WBA Fedebol title and the NABF Super Lightweight Title.
The late scratch has not phased Seldin, “I have been training hard, and whoever they put in front of me, the game plan remains the same – defend my NABA title and bring the hammer for my hometown fans.”

Seldin-Florez tops a fantastic Rockin’ Fights 38 card, that also features world rated heavyweight CARLOS TAKAM (37-5-1 28KO’s) against tough Brazilian FABIO MALDONADO (26-3 25KO’s) in the co-main event.

The stacked undercard features, undefeated rising stars in Dominican, WBC FECARBOX Bantamweight Champion, JUNIOR ALMONTE (13-0 9KO’s), Long Island’s WENDY “HAITIAN FIRE” TOUSSAINT (10-0 4KO) making his 2020 debut, ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS (5-0 1KO) in a step up fight against veteran Antonio Sanchez. The action continues through the opening bouts of the evening including a pick em’ pro debut fight between PRINCE SLAUGHTER against decorated amateur AHMET “THE TURKISH WOLF” TUNCEL, the pro debut of Local 3 electrician BARKIM LOGAN, and kicking off the action, the first Lebanese professional fighter looking to remain undefeated, NADIM SALLOUM (3-0 2KO).

HEAVYWEIGHT UNION ELECTRICIAN (LOCAL 3) BARKIM LOGAN FIGHTS IN 2/28 PRO DEBUT AT THE PARAMOUNT

New York, February 24, 2020–Star Boxing’s “Rockin’ Fights” 38 is set to feature Long Island knockout artist, CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN (Shirley, Long Island 24-1 20KO’s) who defends his NABA title against Colombian slugger, HUMBERTO MARTINEZ (33-9-2 25KO’s). In the co-main event, world rated heavyweight CARLOS TAKAM (37-5-1 28KO’s) takes on tough Brazilian FABIO MALDONADO (26-3 25KO’s).

The boxing world is exciting about heavyweights again as last Saturday night’s impressive Tyson Fury stoppage over Deontay Wilder showed. As such Star Boxing announced that its co-main event is not the only heavyweight action going down at “Rockin’ Fights”. Queens native, BARKIM “BARBELIEVES” LOGAN is focused and ready to make his pro debut at The Paramount on February 28, in a 4-round heavyweight showdown with JACKSON De SOUZA (Boston Massachusetts, 0-1).

Logan, a successful amateur, began boxing at the age of twelve, idolizing the best of the best, such as Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson and Marvin Hagler. Fast forward to today, Logan is ready to make a statement in his pro debut. “I’m looking forward to putting on a great showing of my skills and hard work,” said Logan. In this moment anything less than a win is a total death sentence to my emotions and expectations.”

Beyond his own expectations, Logan knows he has a strong support system backing him come fight night, “my team, family, friends and union brothers best believe I will leave it all in the ring to make sure we are all victorious come February 28.”

By day, Logan is a union electrician for IBEW Local #3 and credits the Union for instilling in him a standard of hard work and education that allowed for a better life for his family. Perhaps most importantly, ahead of his pro debut, being #UnionMade has created an unrivaled support system for Logan, “they support me, believe in me and that’s more important than anything I could have ever asked for.”

This is certainly not the first time that Star Boxing has featured a union worker on its “Rockin’ Fights” card. Union laborer, highly rated light heavyweight and current NABO Light Heavyweight Champion, JOE “THE BEAST” SMITH JR. (Mastic Beach, Long Island, 25-3 20KO’s) developed at The Paramount in Star Boxing’s “Rockin’ Fights” series, backed by his local 66 Union brothers. Smith most recently dominated Philadelphia’s JESSE HART (26-3 21KO’s)at The Hard Rock in Atlantic City to earn the WBO NABO Light Heavyweight title.

Logan’s heavyweight bout is set to take place on the undercard of an expected sell out of double main event, NABA Champion Cletus “The Hebrew Hammer” Seldin against Humberto Martinez and top-rated heavyweight Carlos Takam vs slugger, Fabio Maldonado.

TWO UNDEFEATED LONG ISLANDER’S ADDED TO FEBURARY 28, SELDIN-MARTINEZ, TAKAM-MALDONADO, “ROCKIN’ FIGHTS” UNDERCARD

New York, February 19 2020

The much anticipated “Rockin’ Fights” 38 double main event of hometown hero, CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN (Shirley, Long Island 24-1 20KO’s) defending his NABA title against Colombian slugger, HUMBERTO MARTINEZ (33-9-2 25KO’S) as well as top, world rated heavyweight, CARLOS TAKAM (Henderson, Nevada 37-5-1 28KO’s) against heavy-handed combatant FABIO MALDONADO (Sao Paulo, Brazil 26-3 25KO’s), has created a buzz in the boxing world.

On the undercard, adding to the excitement, Star Boxing is pleased to announce that undefeated Long Island talents, Haitian born, WENDY “HAITIAN FIRE” TOUSSAINT (Huntington, Long Island, 10-0 4KO’s) and ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS (Bellport, Long Island 5-0 1KO) will be featured on the undercard.

Toussaint is set to face the tough, JERMAINE “REAL STEEL” CORLEY in a scheduled 6-round super welterweight bout. Toussaint stands at 6’0″, and has recently found dynamite in his hands, winning four of his last five bouts by knockout. Toussaint is returning from a hand injury that has kept him out since June of 2019 and looks to pick up where he left off. Corley (Mt. Vernon, NY 3-8 1KO) has earned the respect of many based on his no-nonsense, brawler style. In eleven professional fights, Corley has fought nine undefeated fighters, Toussaint making ten, and has an overall opponent record of 54-5-1.

Toussaint is prepared to go to work on February 28, “I’m very happy to be getting back in the ring in front of my fans at The Paramount. I plan on putting on a great fight and look forward to having a very busy and productive, 2020.”

Undefeated Bellport product, and 2013 NY Golden Gloves champion, ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS (5-0 1KO) has quickly made a name for himself at The Paramount. Following the best win of his career over then undefeated DASHAUN JOHNS (2-0) at “Rockin’ Fights” 37 in November, Vargas looks to continue his rise, when he takes on Puerto Rican veteran ANTONIO SANCHEZ (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico 6-8-3 3KO’s). Sanchez has become a pseudo gate keeper of the welterweight division has made a name for himself in tough fights with high level prospects in both the United States and Puerto Rico.

Vargas is ready to put on a show in front of his rowdy hometown fans, “I’m excited to return to the Paramount to fight in front of all of my people again. My opponent has a lot of experience but I’m working hard, staying focused and looking forward to getting another win.”

Both Toussaint and Vargas look to continue their dominance at The Paramount come February 28th, adding to an already stellar card featuring Cletus Seldin and Carlos Takam. Rockin’ Fights 38 is anticipating a sell-out, so be sure to get your tickets now, before it’s too late!

CARLOS TAKAM ADDED TO “ROCKIN’ FIGHTS” IN CO-MAIN EVENT ON FEB. 28

New York, February 6, 2020

Boxing fans were already in for a treat when Star Boxing announced the return of CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN (Shirley, NY 24-1 20KO’s) at The Paramount on February 28 at “Rockin’ Fights.” The card just really tipped the scales and has become heavier. Former world title challenger, and highly regarded world rated heavyweight, CARLOS TAKAM (37-5-1 28KO’s) will make his second appearance in the United States under the Star Boxing banner, at the critically acclaimed “Rockin’ Fights” series when he takes on FABIO MALDONADO (Sao Paulo, Brazil, 26-3 25KO’s).

After signing a promotional deal with New York’s longest running promotional entity, Star Boxing, Takam made his United States debut at Resorts World Catskills in September of 2019. Takam dominated and won a unanimous decision over CRAIG LEWIS (Detroit, MI 14-3 8KO’s).

Takam’s resume is a who’s who of heavyweight stardom including a competitive world title challenge of unified heavyweight world champion, ANTHONY JOSHUA (23-1 21KO’s). Takam has also fought top rated heavyweight’s, JOSEPH PARKER (26-2 20KO’s), ALEXANDER POVETKIN (35-2-1 24KO’s) and MICHAEL GRANT (48-7 36KO’s). Over 43 career fights, Takam has held a variety of championships including the WBO South African, WBF International, WBC Silver and IBF Intercontinental titles.

Maldonado enters with 26 victories, 25 of which came by knockout. As an amateur, Maldonado had an impressive record of 40-5 with 27 KO’s in his native Brazil, winning the Sao Paulo Amateur State Championship (2000 & 2001) and the Jogos Abertos do Interior Amateur Tournament Gold Medal (2001). Turning professional, Maldonado has had a diverse combat history, fighting both as a mixed martial artist for the UFC and as a professional boxer.

As a professional boxer, Maldonado has challenged for the NABF heavyweight title, as well as the WBA International Heavyweight title. A true combatant, Maldonado has not shied away from top talent, including bouts against #7 WBC world rated heavyweight, MICHAEL HUNTER (18-1-1 12KO’s) and undefeated Ukrainian, OLEKSANDR TESLENKO (16-0 12KO’s).

Takam had this to say about his second fight in the US, “I’m looking forward to this year and cannot wait to get started. I am sharp and ready at any time for a title shot.”

Trainer of Takam, DWIGHT YARDE believes the time is now, “I can’t wait to see Carlos start 2020. Star Boxing is keeping us busy, and I know we will get that title shot. This is our time!”

Star Boxing CEO, JOE DEGUARDIA is equally as excited for Takam’s future, “when we signed Carlos, we knew he had the ability to fight any heavyweight in the world. I’m pleased we will be bringing such a quality heavyweight to Long Island” DeGuardia continued, “we believe this is the start to a great year for Takam, and I am looking forward for what is to come.”

In the highly anticipated main event CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN (Shirley, NY 24-1 20KO’s) makes his return to where it all began and has Long Island buzzing. Seldin will be defending his NABA Super Lightweight Title against Colombian veteran HUMBERTO “METRALETTA” MARTINEZ (Monteria, Columbia 33-9-2 17KO’s).

“Rockin’ Fights” 38 is presented by JOE DEGUARDIA’S STAR BOXING in a thrilling night of fights from The Paramount in Huntington, Long Island. For more information follow @StarBoxing and join the conversation using #RockinFights.

CLETUS SELDIN SET TO DEFEND NABA TITLE AGAINST HUMBERTO MARTINEZ ON FEB. 28

On February 28, JOE DEGUARDIA’S STAR BOXING returns to The Paramount in Huntington, Long Island, for one of the most anticipated “Rockin’ Fights” to date. The return of CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN (Shirley, NY 24-1 20KO’s) to where it all began has Long Island buzzing. Seldin will be defending his NABA Super Lightweight Title against Colombian veteran HUMBERTO “METRALETTA” MARTINEZ (Monteria, Columbia 33-9-2 17KO’s).

Seldin returns after an eight-month layoff due to his torn rotator cuff. The injury occurred during perhaps Seldin’s best win to date, an 11-round TKO upset victory over 6-time world champion ZAB “SUPER” JUDAH (44-9 30KO’S) at Turning Stone during the illustrious Boxing Hall of Fame Weekend. Seldin is currently riding a three-bout knockout streak, which began at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma against NELSON LARA (17-10-4 9KO’s) on ESPN+, followed by a dominating TKO performance against ADAM MATE (28-13 21KO’s) on NESN at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Making his United States debut, Humberto Martinez will be challenging Seldin for his NABA title. Martinez is no stranger to big time fights, having challenged for the WBC Latino and Continental America’s as well as the WBO Latino Super Featherweight Titles. Taking on the likes of former world champion JORGE LINARES (then 46-5 28KO’s) and former WBC International Silver Lightweight Champion, DANTE JARDON (32-6 23KO’S), Martinez has the experience he feels is necessary to upset the hometown hero.

Seldin’s come forward, crowd pleasing, no breaks style always brings fans to their feet – especially the Seldin faithful who affectionately call themselves “Hamma Heads.” Known for his immense power, Seldin displayed improved footwork, boxing IQ and tactic during the Judah fight, which he hopes to continue to progress ahead of his February 28 bout.

Martinez believes he is up for the challenge, “I know Cletus is a very hard puncher, but we have fought hard punchers before. We are starting camp in Florida and I promise I will be in great shape and make a very good fight”

Seldin cannot wait to defend his belt in front of his Long Island faithful, “I am not only coming into this fight looking to put on a show, but what better way for me to return to The Paramount by also bringing my NABA belt home and defending it in front of my hometown fans. Be there February 28, you will not want to miss it.”

“As one of, if not the, hardest punchers at super lightweight, anytime Seldin steps in the ring, it is guaranteed to bring fireworks,” said Star Boxing CEO JOE DEGUARDIA. “We are excited to bring Seldin back to where it all began, at The Paramount. He has a very pleasing style that really excites the fans. You will not want to wait to get tickets to “Rockin’ Fights” as they are already moving fast.”

CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN TO HEADLINE “ROCKIN’ FIGHTS” ON FEBRUARY 28 AT THE PARAMOUNT

Long Island, January 20, 2020

Boxing fans have been calling for it, Long Island has been waiting for it, and CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN (Shirley, Long Island 24-1 20KO’S) couldn’t be more ready to make his ring return, back where it all began, at The Paramount, on February 28, at “Rockin’ Fights.”

Seldin is coming off the biggest win of his career, when he stopped boxing legend, and multi-time world champion, ZAB “SUPER” JUDAH (Brooklyn, NY 44-10 30KO’s) in June of 2019 at Turning Stone Resort Casino during the coveted Hall of Fame boxing event. Over eleven dominating rounds, Seldin hurt Judah badly in the third, finding success in relentless pressure, culminating in an eleventh-round stoppage as Seldin, an underdog to the former world champ, earned the NABA Super Lightweight Title. With the victory Seldin entered back into the World ratings (#11 WBA, #12 IBF).

Making his seventeenth appearance at “Rockin’ Fights,” Seldin holds the record for most wins at The Paramount, the first of which came in 2011 with a quintessential KO over Rashad Bogar. Seldin went on to have tremendous success at the Paramount, ultimately winning the WBC International Silver Super Lightweight Title in 2014, which he successfully defended three times.

In November of 2017, Seldin would display his world class power on the national stage in a featured fight on HBO against ROBERTO ORTIZ (then 35-1-2 26KO’s). Seldin pounced on Ortiz from the opening bell and knocked knocked him out in the 3rd round in front of an electric crowd of his “Hamma Heads” fans at the Nassau Coliseum. Just one month later Seldin would make history as the only the third boxer to appear on HBO in back-to-back months, joining boxing legends MIKE TYSON and ROY JONES JR..

Seldin has fully recovered from a surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder which he suffered in the Judah fight in June. Riding a three-fight knockout streak, Seldin looks to continue his rise in the world rankings in his return to The Paramount. Seldin had this to say about his return home, “It feels great to be home where it all started. There is no venue like The Paramount, and I cannot wait to be back. I feel healthy and plan on putting on a show for all the ‘Hamma Heads’ who come out on February 28.”

Seldin’s opponent will be announced soon. “Rockin’ Fights” 38 is presented by JOE DEGUARDIA’S STAR BOXING in a thrilling night of fights from The Paramount in Huntington, Long Island. For more information follow @StarBoxing and join the conversation using #RockinFights.

TYRONE “PRETTY BOY” JAMES IS POISED TO BE THE NEXT PARAMOUNT STAR; HEADLINES SEPT 20 FIGHTS

New York, September 19, 2019

Eight fights ago, “THE JACKPOT” TYRONE “PRETTY BOY” JAMES (Elmont, NY 10-0 7KO’s) entered The Paramount in Huntington, NY for the first time. The date was March 5, 2016 and “The Jackpot” was opposing Neyeine Muang in a 4-round welterweight contest. From that point on, James had one goal on his mind, headline a “Rockin’ Fights.” This Friday, September 20, he will realize his dream as he will be the main event at the storied venue.

Tyrone James has been on some impressive “Rockin’ Fights” cards that include some of Long Island’s biggest success stories. In 2016, James appeared on the undercard of CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN, the record holder for most appearances at The Paramount. In November of 2018, James appeared on the undercard of the orginal king of The Paramount, former World Champion, CHRIS ALGIERI. However, the time has come for James to reach his goal, to have his name next to Paramount legends, who were all developed at the renown venue in Huntington, later going on to be title contenders, and world champions.

Does James feel pressure knowing that the likes of Chris Algieri, Cletus Seldin and JOE SMITH JR. amongst others, were developed and performed at the highest level of the sport by becoming Paramount headliners, exactly where James finds himself on Friday night? “P ressure?” said James, “from what i know, pressure makes diamonds, so if there’s any pressure it must be good pressure for me to succeed.” While he may not feel the pressure of living up to the Paramount legends, James is not taking this opportunity lightly, ” It means a lot to me. A lot of great fighters have headlined at The Paramount, and to have my name beside theirs means a lot.”

As for what fans can expect come Friday night’s main event, as per usual, the charismatic James was not bashful, “fans can expect a great show. Speed, power and flash, because I make sure you see that every time i come out.”

Rockin’ Fights 36 is promoted by JOE DEGUARDIA’S STAR BOXNG. Tickets to Rockin’ Fights 36 can be purchased below, as well as at the Paramount box office.

Judah in hospital and awake after Seldon fights

Despite many rumors that Zab Judah was in a coma, he is in fact awake and in a Syracuse area hospital following a brain bleed following his 11th round stoppage loss to Cletus Seldin this past Friday night at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

“[Judah is] awake, communicating with his family and doctors and making progress,” Star Boxing promoter Joe DeGuardia told ESPN. “Beyond that his family is requesting privacy at this time about his medical condition.”

DeGuardia said because it had been such a brutal fight “we had Zab go the hospital to get checked. It was a high-volume fight, not a minute to breath kind of fight. Cletus was all over Zab for almost the entire fight. Zab really dug down and showed his champion’s heart.”

“I saw him at about 2:30 in the morning. He was with his family having food at the diner in the hotel and I was with my staff there. I talked to Zab for about 10 or 15 minutes. We talked about the fight, how he had a great career and how it’s time [to retire]. He agreed. He said he had a good career and accomplished a lot and that he was proud of the fight he fought against Cletus. He seemed fine. I went upstairs, but later at the diner he wasn’t good and went back to the hospital.

“We’re all pulling for him. In boxing it’s all a fraternity but with Judah and his father (and trainer Yoel Judah) I go back 30 years with them so it hits home.”

Judah has defeated some of the most notable names in the business, including, Micky Ward, Lucas Matthysse and Cory Spinks (Undisputed Welterweight Title), and fought many other top fighters including Floyd Mayweather, Amir Khan, Danny Garcia and Miguel Cotto. Opposing the six-time and former undisputed champion will be New York’s feared knockout artist, Cletus “The Hebrew Hammer” Seldin (Shirley, NY 23-1 19KO’s). Seldin broke on to the national scene when he devoured Roberto Ortiz at the Nassau Coliseum in a featured HBO fight. One month later, Seldin became the first boxer alongside Hall of Fame world champions, Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. to fight in featured fights on back to back months on HBO. Judah-Seldin will be a scheduled 12-round bout, for the vacant NABA Super Lightweight Title.

On the biggest weekend in boxing, with many Hall of Famer’s in attendance, #JudahSeldin is bound to set off fireworks at Turning Stone on June 7th.

In the co-feature bout, James “Buddy” McGirt Jr. (Vero Beach, FL 27-3-1 14KO’s) will look to tip his hat to his father, James McGirt Sr. who is being inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame during the same weekend, when he takes on tough undefeated Frenchman David Papot (Saint-Nazaire, France 22-0 3KO’s). As a professional McGirt has found success and has faced some well-regarded fighters in his division, including, Carlos De Leon Jr., Edwin Rodriguez, and Raymond Joval. His opponent, undefeated Frenchman David Papot is taking the trip across the Atlantic Ocean with intentions of ruining the McGirt family weekend. Papot had 102 amateur bouts, 30 of which were with the French National team, earning French National Champion honors two times. INTERNATIONAL BOXING HALL OF FAME INDUCTION WEEKEND UNDERCARD BOUTS ANNOUNCED

New York, May 23, 2019

International Boxing Hall of Fame Induction Weekend is right around the corner and STAR BOXING is pleased to announce the undercard for the highly anticipated event, set to take place at Turning Stone Resort Casino on June 7th. The main event features six-time world champion, and the last Undisputed Welterweight Champion, ZAB “SUPER” JUDAH (44-9 30KO’s) against New York knockout artist, CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN (23-1 19KO’s). The two will do battle in a 12-round bout, with the vacant NABA Super Lightweight Title up for grabs. In the co-feature, #8 WBA rated, undefeated Frenchman, DAVID PAPOT (22-0 3KO’s) will face veteran, JAMES “BUDDY” MCGIRT JR. (27-3-1 14KO’s), son of Long Island’s first world champion “BUDDY” MCGIRT, for the WBA Intercontinental and WBO International Middleweight Titles in a 12-round bout, who is being inducted to the Hall of Fame during the fight week induction ceremony.

The undercard will feature five undefeated fighters, including ROBERT DURAN JR. (Plantation, FL 2-0, 2KO), son of the legendary, “Mano de Piedra,” ROBERTO DURAN, Italy’s “SUPER” MARIO ALFANO (14-0-1 3KO’s), Long Island’s WENDY “HAITIAN FIRE” TOUSSAINT (Huntington, NY 9-0 4KO’s), up and coming welterweight BOUBACAR SYLLA (Cincinnati, OH 9-0 7KO’s), Vero Beach Florida native, JONATHAN PIERRE (3-0) and cruiserweight ALEX VANASSE (4-0 4KO’s).

In an 8-round lightweight bout, Italian sensation, “SUPER” MARIO ALFANO will be making his United States debut against a tough opponent in LAVISAS “RED” WILLIAMS (Rochester, NY 8-1-1 3KO’s). The 28-year-old Italian earned the Italian National Super Featherweight Title in 2016, and successfully defended it in the same year. Alfano comes to the USA with the hopes that being seen on a world stage will expedite his opportunity at cracking into the upper level of the super featherweight/lightweight rankings. Williams is looking to avenge the first loss of his career at the hands of O’Shaquie Foster, knowing that a win against an undefeated fighter in Alfano will be one of, if not the best, of his young career.

Star Boxing’s undefeated, rising super middleweight, WENDY “HAITIAN FIRE” TOUSSAINT (9-0 4KO’s) is a highly-regarded prospect that many believe may be a future world champion. He is coming off a 12 month layoff due to an injured hand. Toussaint has developed into a well-rounded fighter and his last 4 fights have been via TKO’s. Opposing the Haitian born Toussaint will be LUCIUS “BULLDOG” JOHNSON (Compton, CA, 4-5-1 3KO’S). Johnson has a deceiving record, with combined opponent record of 62-7-6. Toussaint will be the seventh undefeated fighter that Johnson will take on. This scheduled 6-round super middleweight bout is expected to be a thriller.

The Sengalese welterweight, now fighting and training out of Cincinnati, Ohio, BOUBACAR SYLLA (9-0 7KO’s) will be fighting in New York for the first time, having recently defeated Brooklyn prospect, Marlon Brown. The 6’0″ prospect was born in Dakar, Senegal and will be campaigning at the 147 lb. division as the 24-year-old continues to rise the ranks. He will face tough Texan MARQUIS “THE HAWK” HAWTHORNE (7-10 1KO). Hawthorne has faced almost exclusively highly rated prospects in his career, with a combined opponent record of 96-27-5, of which twelve of his seventeen opponents have been undefeated. He recently handed highly regarded prospect Ronnie Austion his first loss in a massive upset this past January. This bout is scheduled for 6 rounds in the welterweight division.

In a special attraction battle of undefeated fighters, ROBERT DURAN JR. (2-0 2KO), son of boxing legend, ROBERTO DURAN, will step in for his third professional bout, against JONATHAN PIERRE (3-0), in a four round welterweight bout. No-one has been able to take Duran Jr. the full distance as his two wins have come by TKO, and Duran has the added benefit of having already fought on a big stage when he shined on ESPN + in his last bout. Pierre plans to be unphased by the Duran mystique, and says he will continue on his undefeated path, with a fourth victory against the son of the boxing legend.

In an interesting New York scrap, Undefeated, ALEX “LIGHTS OUT” VANASSE (Carmel, NY 4-0 4KO) will take on ERIC ABRAHAM (Schenectady, NY 5-4 2KO’s) in a 4-round cruiserweight showdown.

ZAB JUDAH AND CLETUS SELDIN TO FACE OFF IN THE MAIN EVENT FOR THE VACANT NABA SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE

New York, May 20 2019

As the buzz continues to grow surrounding International Boxing Hall of Fame Induction Weekend, the June 7th card at Turning Stone Resort Casino, proudly presented by JOE DEGUARDIA’S STAR BOXING is excited to announce that three titles and significant rankings are now at stake.

In the main event, 6-time world champion ZAB “SUPER” JUDAH (44-9 30KO’s) is set to take on New York knockout artist, CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN (23-1 19KO’s), in a bout that has the boxing world ready for fireworks. Star Boxing is pleased to announce that both New York born fighters will be taking their shot at the NABA Super Lightweight Title in a 12-round bout. Judah enters this fight as a winner of his last two, by TKO and unanimous decision, respectively. Judah’s illustrious career includes an opponent list of elite boxing talent. With his eyes now set on a victory on June 7th, Judah hopes that it will lead to a super lightweight world title challenge in the near future. Opposing Judah is New York, Jewish pugilist, Cletus Seldin, who has been feared as one of the hardest punching Super Lightweight fighters. Seldin was one of the hottest prospects in NY and in 2017 he became the third ever fighter to make back-to-back featured appearances on HBO, alongside Hall of Famers, ROY JONES JR. and MIKE TYSON. Seldin knows the kind of benefits that will come if he can add a victory against an elite, world known fighter like Judah, on June 7th.

Star Boxing is also pleased to announce that the co-feature bout, between undefeated Frenchman, DAVID PAPOT (22-0 3KO’s), currently rated #8 by the WBA and veteran JAMES “BUDDY” McGIRT JR. (27-3-1 14KO’s), will be for the vacant WBA Intercontinental and WBO International Middleweight Titles. A win for either fighter will be a major step towards a future world title challenge. Papot, the current French Super Welterweight Champion, will be making his United States debut, against the veteran McGirt Jr., who will be fighting in front of his father, JAMES “BUDDY” MCGIRT, as he will be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame on the same weekend.

SLUGFEST at the SUN LIGHTS UP MOHEGAN SUN ON SATURDAY NIGHT

Uncasville, CT, January 27, 2019

A great night of fights took place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT last night (Saturday), as JOE DEGUARDIA’S STAR BOXING presented another exciting SLUGFEST AT THE SUN. The undercard had a distinct New England flavor as the crowd came out early and loud, cheering on their local New England talent.

In the main event, New England fans were treated to feared knockout artist CLETUS “THE HEBREW HAMMER” SELDIN (now 23-1 19KO’s) as the Hammer-Head fans traveled from Seldin’s Long Island hometown to Mohegan Sun. Taking on Hungarian puncher, ADAM MATE (now 28-14 21 KO’s), Seldin, as usual, came streaming across the ring from the opening bell. Throwing precise haymakers, and clearly looking for the knockout, Seldin stalked Mate and just twenty seconds into the first round, landed a devastating right hand that sent Mate crumbling to the floor. To Mate’s credit, he rose off the canvas attempting to stabilize himself, defeating the referee’s ten count. However, Seldin pounced yet again, trapping Mate in the corner, dropping him once again for the final time with precise bombs. Joe DeGuardia promised boxing fans to not blink during this scheduled ten round main event and the Mike Tyson-like Seldin blitzkrieg lived up to the promise, with the Knockout coming at the official time of 0:48 seconds of the first round.

Cletus Seldin said this about his devastating KO victory:
“I am happy to be back. I have now had 2 fights since coming back from the Tommy John surgery I had last year and i feel like it’s back to normal. I can’t wait to get back in the ring again and want to thank Joe DeGuardia [Star Boxing] for keeping me busy and all of the “Hammer-Heads” who came out to support me. I am ready for the top guys in my division.”

“ACTION” ANTHONY LAUREANO (now 10-0 3KO’s) and RONALD RIVAS (5-9-2 3KO’s) put on a show for every minute of their 8 round co-feature bout, entertaining the crowd who cheered with an ever-increasing excitement and intensity throughout the bout. Both fighters earned the respect of the fans for their effort, but it was Laureano who showed his superior skills, using an effective jab, left hook, damaging body punching, and unmatched determination, which led him to a unanimous decision victory by scores of, 80-71, 79-72 (x 2).

The fighters engaged each other from the opening bell and by the second round Rivas was cut and bleeding. In the third, Laureano banged the game Rivas on the ropes and across the ring. Laureano’s ceaseless attack overwhelmed Rivas in the 5th round sending him to the canvas with a left hook to the body. The slugging continued for the remainder of the fight to the delight of the cheering crowd at Mohegan Sun, concluding with Laureano throwing punches in bunches from all angles. Be sure to tune in for the replay of this one as the hometown hero, Anthony Laureano put on a show for his local fans.

Laureano on returning to Mohegan Sun, and his performance on Saturday night:
“I felt good in there and just love to fight in there. Rivas was a tough and determined fighter and I have much respect for him. Thank you Star Boxing for keeping me busy and moving me and thank you Mohegan Sun, NESN and all my fans – I appreciate the support.”

In a battle for the Jr. NABF Super Featherweight title, ANGEL “EL GALLO” SUAREZ (now 8-3 3KO’s) challenged champion WILLIAM “THE SILENT ASSASIN” FOSTER (9-0 6KO’s). Foster got it started early, boxing swiftly, landing by using his quick hands. However, Suarez would not be denied, finding openings in the second round, as blood began to come from the nose of Foster. The two waged war against each other, for the entirety of the 8-round title fight in a fantastic tactical battle reminiscent of yesteryear. Having gone the distance, the judges scored the bout 79-73 (x3) in favor of William Foster, who retained his Jr. NABF Super Featherweight title in an exciting bout.

JACOB “LEFTY” MARRERO (now 2-0 1KO) seemingly had all of Bridgeport behind him in his second professional bout, as he took on Hungarian ZSOLT KARVAJ (now 3-3 3KO’s) in a scheduled 4-rounder. Marrero wasted no time sending Karvaj to the canvas two times in the opening round. Finally, a straight right hand by Marrero scored purely on the chin of Karvaj, causing referee Danny Schiavone to halt the action with 1:07 expired in the first round.

In a thriller, fan favorite NATHAN MARTINEZ (now 2-0) had his second professional bout against a tough Philadelphian, JERROD MINER (now 1-3-2 1KO). The opening round saw great back and forth action, as Miner scored with two hard rights, while Martinez found a home for his right hand as well. It was a very close first round but the second saw Martinez go on an impressive body attack, landing sharp, devastating shots to the midsection of the Miner. After 4-rounds of great action, the judges saw it, 40-36 (x2), and 39-37, in favor of Nathan Martinez, who improved to 2-0.

In a 6-round welterweight bout between RONNIE “TEFLON RON” AUSTION (now 10-1 7KO’s) and Waco, Texas native, MARQUIS “THE HAWK” HAWTHORNE (now 6-9 1KO) both fighters began slow, in a feeling out first round. Austion looking to counter, while Hawthorne pressed, seemed to be the theme throughout the fight. Finally, in the fourth round, the action began to pick up, as Hawthorne was both throwing and landing in high volume. After losing a point for holding in the fifth round, Austion was unable to close the deficit, as Marquis Hawthorne, in a big upset, defeated the previously undefeated and heralded Austion by scores of 57-56, 58-55, 59-54.

DAVID PAPOT (22-0 3KO’s) of Saint-Nazaire France was scheduled to make his USA debut agains the tough COURTNEY PENNINGTON (12-3-2 5KO’s) on Saturday night, however two days before fight night, Pennington had to pull out of the bout due to back spasms. Star Boxing then brought in RONALD MONTES (18-11 16KO’s) of Columbia, on short notice, to take on the tough Frenchmen. Unfortunately Montes failed his physical due to a high pulse rate and the bout was not sanctioned by the Mohegan Tribe Athletic Commission, causing it to be pulled from the card.
