STOCKTON, Calif. (Aug. 28, 2022): Rising 154-pound Mexican contender Damian “Samurai” Sosa (21-1, 11 KOs) scored a unanimous decision victory over Ronald “Diablo” Cruz (18-2-1, 12 KOs) in the 10-round main event of a Toscano Boxing Promotions card Friday evening.

The fight took place at San Joaquin County Fairgrounds in Stockton, California and headlined a card that was streamed live in English on FightHype and in Spanish via TV Boxeo. 

Sosa was quicker, stronger and more effective with his combinations throughout fight. The native of Mexico City, Mexico who lives in Tijuana and represents both cities won with scores of 98-92, 97-93 and 97-93.

“I knew that Ronald Cruz would be very strong,” said Damian Sosa. “I knew he was going to come after me. But I appreciate him because you can’t have a fight without an opponent, and I feel he was a great challenge. It was a tough fight, but I had the boxing skills to win round by round and come out with the victory.”

In the co-main event, Giovannie Gonzalez (15-6-1, 12 KOs) of Stockton California defeated Arturo Cortez (7-1-2, 6 KOs) of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico via unanimous decision in an eight-rounder in the lightweight division. Gonzalez won with scores of 79-73, 77-75 and 77-75.

Hector Madera (10-0, 6 KOs) of Stockton, California scored a four-round technical decision win over Timothy Parks (3-3, 2 KOs) in a welterweight battle. An accidental headbutt that took place in the third round eventually forced the action to be stopped at the very beginning of the fourth round. Madera won with three scores of 40-35.

Victor Torres (8-10-1, 5 KOs) of Modesto, California scored a second-round knockout victory over Israel Luna (2-2, 1 KO) of Fontana, California in a bantamweight battle initially slated for four rounds. Torres pummeled Luna easily, and due to the severity of the beatdown, the referee halted the action at 2:22 of the second round. 

Super bantamweight prospect Irving Xilohua (3-0, 2 KOs) of Stockton, California scored a four-round unanimous decision against Rodolfo Medina (0-1) of Antioch, California. Xilohua managed to score an impressive knockdown in the third round, which helped him win the bout with three scores of 40-35.

Damon Cato Cain (7-0, 6 KOs) of Oakland, California defeated Christian Aguirre (8-11, 4 KOS) of Salt Lake City, Utah in a super welterweight fight originally scheduled for four rounds. Cain dominated each round, but the fight was stopped by Aguirre’s corner at the end of round two.

Arturo Cardenas (4-0-1, 4 KOs) of Riverside, California scored a stoppage victory over James Mulder (0-1) of Antioch, California in a scheduled four-rounder in the super bantamweight division. After several rounds of action, the referee deemed Mulder unable to continue at :01 of fourth round.

The fight will headline a full card of action that will be streamed live in English on FightHype and in Spanish via TV Boxeo.

We’ll see what both fighters are made of on August 26, and it will be a fun fight while it lasts.”

Sosa is a 25-year-old native of Mexico City, Mexico who made his professional debut in 2016. He fought in his native country for most of his career before challenging Artem Oganesyan for the WBO Youth Junior Middleweight Championship on enemy territory. Despite losing, Sosa put on a tremendous effort and bounced back with victories against the likes of “Cassius” Clay Collard and Jesus Vega. Sosa, who lives and trains in Tijuana, looks to continue making his case for a world title at 154 pounds.

“I’m very happy to know that I’ll be once again fighting in Stockton, California,” said Damian Sosa. “Last year I had my first fight in the United States, and it was right there in Stockton. So, I’m very motivated and more so because it’ll be against an American fighter with a very good record. For me, our records make this an attractive fight. On the other hand, I also know that he’s very strong fighter who likes to come forward, and those are ingredients that make for an exciting fight. Without a doubt, it will be a war.”

Cruz is a 30-year-old native of Los Angeles, California who debuted as a pro in September 2014. He had a rocky start to his career by suffering his first defeat in his third fight, but he then remained undefeated across 16 additional fights through seven years of action. In his last outing, Cruz fought to a draw against Kevin Ottley, but feels that he will be ready to deliver the best performance of his life against Sosa.

TIJUANA, Mexico (April 8, 2022): Mexican contender Damian “Samurai” Sosa (20-1, 11 KOs) defended his WBO Latino Super Welterweight Championship with an impressive knockout victory against Jesus “Ingeniero” Vega (22-3-1, 13 KOs) of Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico in the main event of a Toscano Boxing Promotions show Friday night at Zonkeys Auditorium in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico and live on FITE.TV Pay-Per-View.

Sosa ended the bout at 1:35 of the third round and once again demonstrated his desire to have a world title opportunity in the near future.

“It was a good fight,” said Damian Sosa. “I think I had control of the entire fight. In the second round, he landed a hard shot on me, but aside from that I felt I had control of the entire bout and that I was doing what my corner was telling me to do.”

In the co-main event, Pedro Bernal (9-1-2, 3 KOs) of Mexico City, Mexico scored an upset unanimous decision victory over Manuel Jaimes (12-1, 10 KOS) of Stockton, California to capture the WBC Youth Lightweight Title. After eight rounds of action, the judges scored the fight 77-76, 77-76 and 77-75 in favor of the new champion.

Carlos Garcia (10-0, 8 KOs) of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico scored a brutal first-round knockout victory against David Rangel (13-11, 9 KOs) of Cintalapa, Chiapas, Mexico in a scheduled six-round middleweight bout. Garcia ended the bout at 55 seconds of the opening round.

Jose Luis Vazquez (7-0, 2 KOs) of Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, Mexico scored a split decision win against Omar Martinez (4-3, 3 KOs) of Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico after six rounds of battle in the lightweight division. One judge scored the fight 58-56 for Martinez, but two others had it 58-56 and 58-57 in Vazquez’s favor.

Gabriel Muratalla (7-0, 4 KOs) of Fontana, Calif. scored a knockout win over Jose Giovanny Pinedo (4-4, 1 KO) of Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico in a scheduled six-round super bantamweight clash. Muratalla ended matters at 2:58 of the first round.

Arturo Cortez (6-1-1, 5 KOs) of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico defeated Carlos Alberto Ocampo (9-4-4, 6 KOs) of Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico via second-round technical knockout. The official time of the stoppage was 2:54 of the aforementioned round.

Cristian Cruz (17-6, 7 KOs) of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico scored a fourth-round technical knockout against Daniel Acosta (9-5, 6 KOs) of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico in a scheduled six-rounder in the lightweight division.

Collard of Burley, Idaho became the darling of the “Top Rank Bubble Series” that took place at The MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The 28 year-old Collard has a record of 9-4-3 with four knockouts. Collard won three fights during the series over previously undefeated David Kaminsky (6-0) and Maurice Williams (7-1). Flores of Guadalajara, Mexico has a record of 25-4-1 with 17 knockouts. The 35 year-old Flores is a 13 year-professional.

Flores won his first 25 fights (with two no-decisions). He attained wins over Oscar Arena (19-2) & Rodolfo Hernandez Montoya (24-3-1). On April 18, 2015, Flores won the WBA Interim Super Bantamweight title with a 12-round split-decision over Oscar Escandon (24-1) in Carson, California. He made two defenses of the title with wins over Luis Emanuel Cusolito (21-1) and Paulus Ambunda (24-1). He fought to a no-contest with unified world champion Guillermo Rigondeaux. Moises lost his bid for the WBA title when he lost to Danny Roman. Flores was stopped in one by Carlos Dixon on July 2nd in Louisville, Kentucky.

Boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez thrilled his adoring fans one last time as he and Hector Camacho Jr. entertained a throng of fight fans in a special exhibition bout at Jalisco Stadium and Guadalajra.

The two fought hard, which was much to the delight of the crowd. Before the final frame, Chavez called in pound-for-pound king, and Guadalajara native Canelo Alvarez to stand in his corner. The two once again embraced after the fight, which seemed to be a symbolic passing of the torch from past to future Mexican darling to current superstar and future legend that Alvarez is on course to be.

The bout was special for all involved as Chavez fought Camacho’s late father, Hector Camacho 29 years ago.

This bout marked the end of an era, as Chavez announced that this would the final time that he would hang up the gloves as he has been participating in exhibitions in recent years.

Silva stuns Chavez Jr. via split decision

MMA Legend Anderson Silva came over to boxing and won an eight-round split decision over former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Silva was the more aggressive fighter and landed more and had Chavez on the ropes for a good portion of the fight.

The scores read 77-75 twice for Silva and 77-75 Chavez.

Silva, 182 lbs of Brazil, is widely considered the greatest MMA fighter of all-time now has a professional boxing record of 2-1. Chavez, who weighed in 2.4 lbs of the contracted weight of 182, is now 52-6.

“I ’m so happy to be here. I want to thank Adidas for taking care of me and supplying me with the all the gear that I needed to train for this fight. We won every round . This is a dream of mine for many years. I did this because I have the best team . My team is my family. We did this together. Lots of hard work to get to this point. Absolutely will do this again,” Said Silva.

“I did good ,I just had some problems breathing plus my ribs where kind of hurt  ,the cut didn’t affect me at all. I thought it could have been a draw,” said Chavez

Alvarez wins Trilogy; Decisions Chavez

Ramon Alvarez won his trilogy bout with Omar Chavez with an eight-round unanimous decision over Omar Chavez in a middleweight bout,

In round four, Chavez was cut on the outside of his right eye. Alvarez controlled the action and beat Chavez to the punch throughout the eight-round affair.

Alvarez of Guadalajara, MEX is 29-8-3. Chavez of Culican. MEX is 38-7-1.

“I feel really great and proud on this Victory over Omar Chávez ,i had an excellent preparation ,with my brother as my trainer was very aware of me getting this done ,this Victory dedicated for my all my family and all my whole Town that came to cheer for me. Having my family in my corner gave me added strength and energy. It’s a really special night and I’m proud of my effort,” said Alvarez 

 “He won, no question. It was a clear head butt that caused lots of blood to pour out. That changed the whole fight . I could see his punches, he was able to apply pressure . He hit me with hard punches. I would do fight him again,” said Chavez

Sosa Decisions Mina via Split Decision

Damian Sosa won a 10-round split decision over Abel Mina in a super welterweight fight.

Sosa, 153 lbs of Tijuana, MEX won by scores of 96-94, 95-94 and Mina took card 96-94

Sosa is now 18-1. Mina, 153 lbs of Perto Quito, ECU us 13-1.

“I fought a really good fighter. It was a tough fight. He is a awkward fighter, and I have never faced anyone like him. It took some time to adapt to his style. I came in really good Shape. I did my training with champion Jaime Munguia. I won this fight and I’m dedicating this fight to my parents and all my Mexican fans,” said Sosa.

 “We came here to win, and not get robbed. We worked so hard in our  preparation with my team and in the fight. We hit him with many solid punches, and we boxed and brawled when necessary. We deserved the victory period,” said Mina

Melendez Decisions Torres

Jorge Luis Melendez won an eight-round unanimous decision over Kevin Torres in a super lightweight bout.

In Round one, Melendez dropped Torres with a left hook. In round, Melendez began to bleed from his nose.

Melendez cruised down the stretch and won by scores of 77-74, 76-74 and 77-75.

Melendez of Jalisco is 14-7. Torres of Bellingham, WA is 17-2.

“I came in very good shape, I tried to knock him out. ,I threw good combinations. got cut on my eyebrow, but it didn’t bother me at all ,I feel that I won  this fight, and i am just wafting For another good fight and bigger opportunities.,” said Melendez

“He’s a tough fighter, a strong fighter, I wasn’t proud of my performance. It just wasn’t my night,” said Torres

Leonardo Padilla won an eight-round unanimous decision over Jesus Acosta in a junior lightweight bout.

Padilla, 129 lbs of Caracas, VEN is 20-3. Acosta, 129 lbs of Guadalajara is 15-3.

Cesar Gutierrez stopped Oscar Mejia in round one of a scheduled eight-round super lightweight bout.

In a 10-round battle for the NABO Super Welterweight Title, Damian “Samurai” Sosa battles Abel “Authentico” Mina. In the televised opener, Kevin “Diamond Boy” Torres will fight Jorge Luis “Silencioso” Melendez in a eight-round junior welterweight fight.

Those two fights will support the special night of boxing that will feature legendary Julio Cesar Chavez making his last ring appearance when he battles Hector Camacho Jr in an exhibition bout; Former middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. takes on MMA Legend Anderson Silva in a cruiserweight bout scheduled for 10-rounds; Omar Chavez will take on Ramon Alvarez in their trilogy bout, which will be a 10-round middleweight bout.

Sosa of Tijuana, Mexico has a record of 17-1 with 10 knockouts. The 24 year-old is a five-year veteran, who has racked up wins over Alan Carillo (6-0), Giovanny Gonzalez (6-1), Angel Beltran Villa (9-0). In his last bout, Sosa stopped Isidro Toalo in two rounds on February 27th in Jalisco, Mexico. Sosa has won six straight bouts

Mina of Puerto Quito, Ecuador, is undefeated with a record of 13-0 with seven knockouts. The 28 year-old is a three year veteran who has a win over Diego Quinones (4-1). Mina is coming off a 2nd round stoppage over Luis Hernan Rodriguez on February 13th in Planeta Rica, Ecuador.

Melendez, 27 years-old of Zapopan, Mexico has a record of 13-7-2 with eight knockouts. A veteran of eight years, Melendez has a win over undefeated Jose Magdaleno. Melendez is looking to get back in the win column after dropping a decision to Christian Bielma on February 29, 2020 in Tijuana, Mexico.

PHILADELPHIA-– Artur Beterbiev not only kept his perfect knockout streak in-tact, but he unified two light heavyweight titles with an emphatic 10th round stoppage over Oleksandr Gvozdyk to retain his IBF and win the WBC crowns.

It was a close fight with each guy taking turns winning round’s. Gvozdyk was trying to box from the outside where Beterbiev was looking for power shits throughout the fight.

Towards the end of round one, Beterbiev threw Gvozdyk to the canvas. It was initally ruled a knockdown, but state commissioner Greg Sirb ruled a push. Both showed why this fight was viewed as a pick-em fight on paper as the fight was fought at an extreme high-level of class.

The fight started going Beterbiev’s way in round nine as he landed hard shots on a tired Gvozdyk. In round ten, Gvozdyk gave in as he was sent to the canvas three times by the still hard punching Beterbiev, and referee Gary Rosato stopped the bout at 2:49.

Beterbiev, 174.5 lbs of Montreal is 15-0 with 15 knockouts. Gvozdyk, 174,3 lbs of Khartov, UKR is 17-1.

Kudratillo Abdukakhorov won a 10-round unanimous decision over former world champion Luis Collazo in a welterweight bout.

In round eight, Collazo started to bleed from around the left eye. In round nine, Collazo suffered a nasty cut over his right eye, and the bout was stopped.

When the scores were announced, it was Abdukakhorov won by 99-91, 98-92 and 97-93, and is now 17-0. Collazo, 146.4 lbs of Brooklyn, NY is 39-8.

“I am the IBF No. 1 contender, and I would like to fight for the title fight next,” Abdukakhorov said. “I wanted to fight Errol Spence Jr., but unfortunately he got in a car accident. I wish him a speedy recovery, and if he’s ready to fight soon, I would like to fight him. If he has to vacate the title, then I will fight whoever they put in front of me.”

Collazo injured his biceps in the fifth round and was unable to throw his left hand much throughout the second half of the fight.

“Hey, it is what it is. This is part of the sport,” Collazo said. “We’ll see what’s next.”

Sonny Conto remained perfect by stopping Steve Lyons after round one of their four round heavyweight bout.

Conto won the 1st round, and Lyons did not come out after the round.

Conto, 214.1bs of Philadelphia is 5-0 with four knockouts. Lyons, 201.9 lbs of Louisiana is 5-6.

Jospeh Adorno scored an explosive 2nd round stoppage over Damian Sosa in a scheduled eight-round lightweight bout.

In round one, Adorno decked Sosa with a hard right. Adorno finished the fight a round later when he hammered Sosa to the ground along the ropes and the fight was stopped at 1:39.

Adorno, 136.8 lbs of Allentown, PA is 14-0 with 12 knockouts. Sosa, 134.7 lbs of Argentina is 9-3.

Julian Rodriguez scored a hard one-punch knockout over Leonardo Donorio in the 6th and final scheduled round of their super lightweight fight

Rodriguez leveled Donaorio with a vicious left hook that sent him to the canvas. Donorio got to his feet, but referee Benjy Esteves stopped the bout at 2:29.

Rodriguez, 142.6 lbs of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ is now 18-0 with 12 knockouts. Donorio, 139.4 lbs of Philippines is now 17-17-3.

Jeremy Adorno won a four-round unanimous decision over Misael Reyes in a super bantamweight bout.

In round two, Adorno dropped Reyes with a hard counter left uppercut off the ropes.

Adorno, 121.1 lbs of Allentown, PA won by scores of 40-35 twice and 38-37 to raise his perfect mark to 3-0. Reyes, 121.2 lbs of Kansas City is 1-3.

Josue Vargas won an eight-round unanimous decision over Johnny Rodriguez in a super lightweight bout.

Vragas, 140.2 lbs of Bronx, NY won by scores of 80-72 on all cards, and is now 15-1. Rodriguez, 140.5 lbs of Denver is 9-5-1.

Michael Seals needed jut 98 seconds to obliterate Elio Trosch in their scheduled eight-round light heavyweight bout.

Seals landed a powerful right hand that sent Trosch down for the count.

Seals, 174.6 lbs of Atlanta is 24-2 with 18 knockouts. Trosch, 173.2 lbs of Santiago Del Estero, ARG is 14-7-2.
