Promising prospect David Ribeiro added to “The Next Chapter”

QUINCY, Mass. (July 11, 2022) – One of New England’s brightest prospects, Brockton (MA) welterweight David “The Blessed One” Ribeiro (1-0, 1 KO), has been added to “The Next Chapter” card, presented by Granite Chin Promotions, on Saturday night, August 6, at Bridgewater Veterans Club in Bridgewater, Massachusetts.

The 25-year-old Ribeiro faces 71-fight veteran DeWayne Wisdom in a 4-round match. Ribeiro was impressive in his pro debut this past June 25th, when he stopped Rakim Johnson (6-18-1, 5 KOs) in the second round. Wisdom fought on the same card in Framingham (MA).

“I only saw one round of his fight because I had to get ready for mine,” Ribeiro said. “He has a lot of experience and will be coming off a long losing streak. I’m getting ready to do my job to perform and win. I can’t look past him.”

Ribeiro’s pro debut was delayed, originally scheduled for May 7th at the Bridgewater Vets Club, which is considerably closer to Ribeiro’s home in Brockton, but his opponent never got on the plane, and the fight was canceled the day before the show.

“I had fought without head gear before (his pro debut) at the Olympic Trials,” Ribeiro compared his amateur and pro boxing experience. “The pace is slower in the amateurs because of the scoring by points. It was fun (his pro debut). My opponent had heavy hands and I had to dig deep to get him out. I know I can do damage and tell when my opponent is hurt. It’s easier to tell that in the pros because amateurs wear head gear, and you can’t see their face as clearly.

“It was a big relief (winning his pro debut). I’m excited to be fighting on this show because its closer to my home, about a 20-minute drive to Bridgewater. I’m expecting more people to come out to watch me in Bridgewater than for my first fight in Framingham. I’m the type of person who like to write down stuff before it happens. I envisioned going 5-0 before the end of this year and then fighting on TV with an undefeated record, maybe against another undefeated prospect, and eventually getting a title shot.”

“I’m excited to be getting Dave right back in the ring and staying busy,” Granite Chin Promotions president Chris Traietti commented. “He showed a lot of promise in his pro debut, taking on a guy most fighters don’t want to fight until their fifth or sixth fight. August 6th is no different, in just his second fight. He is taking on a veteran most people don’t fight until a little later on. He has a ton of potential and pretty soon everyone at t the national level is going to know it.”

Former New England Welterweight Champion Mike “Bad Man” Ohan, Jr., fighting out of nearby Holbrook (MA), meets junior welterweight Argentinian Jonathan “Yoni” Ariel Sosa (7-13-2, 4 KOs) in the 10-round main event.

Swansea’s (MA) Anthony “The Gentle Savage” Andreozzi (3-2, 1 KO) and Woburn’s (MA) Julien “Black Dragon” Baptiste (4-2, 2 KOs), in the 6-round co-feature for the vacant Massachusetts Middleweight Championship.

Raphael Torres (2-0, 2 KOs), of Framingham (MA), and Fall River’s (MA) Jonathan Gruber (3-1, 2 KOs) will throw down in a 6-rounder for the vacant Massachusetts Cruiserweight Championship in a fight that should enhance the career prospects for the winner.

New Bedford (MA) light heavyweight prospect Edet “Papito” Mkpanam (7-0, 6 KOs), 2018 New England Golden Gloves runner-up, puts his undefeated pro record on the line against veteran Texas fighter Larry “Slo Mo” Smith (13-50-2, 9 KOs) a 6-round bout.

Methuen (MA) junior middleweight Luke Iannuccilli (2-0, 2 KOs) is scheduled to fight in a 4-round bout.

Card subject to change.

Tickets are available for purchase at GRANITE-CHIN-PROMOTIONS.TICKETLEAP.COM or www.ticketriver.com (Search: The Next Chapter) for $45.00 (standing room), $60.00 (floor seats), $80.00 (VIP stage seats) and $40.00 for a table of 4.

Doors open at 7 p.m. ET, first bout at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Brockton welterweight prospect David Ribeiro preparing again for pro debut

QUINCY, Mass. (June 8, 2022) – 2020 New England Golden Gloves champion David Ribeiro, fighting out of Brockton (MA), is preparing once again for his long-awaited professional debut, scheduled for June 25th, on the evening portion of “Road 2 Stardom” card, at Sheraton Hotel in Framingham.

“Road 2 Stardom”, presented by Granite Chin Promotions, is the first day-night professional boxing doubleheader in Massachusetts history. Boxing fans will be available to watch both shows via live stream at BXNGTV.COM for only $24.99.

Ribeiro was all set to make his pro debut back on May 7th in Bridgewater (MA), but his opponent never got on the phone, cancelling their fight, and disappointing the ready-to-go Ribeiro.

“I didn’t find out until the day of the weigh in,” Ribeiro explained. “I was devastated. I was on weight and ready to put on an exciting show. I had sold all my tickets. It was a great moment until I got the news. I’ll be even more prepared this time because the cancellation motivated me to work even harder. I had been in training camp for 8 weeks. There’s no easy way to get ready for a fight. I’ve been working on my strength and conditioning, cardio, and nutrition. I’ve been sparring some tough people. The only difference is my opponent.”

Ribeiro is slated to face Rakim Johnson (6-17-1, 5 KOs), of Indianapolis, in a 4-round bout. The Brockton fighter could have fought an easier opponent in his first pro fight, certainly less experienced than the 24-fight Johnson.

“It doesn’t matter to me,” Ribeiro said. “My team picks my opponent. I know what I bring to the table. I know what I’m capable of and I’m very confident.

“The excitement is still there. Bridgewater is only 20 minutes from my home, Framingham is around 40, but I still have people buying tickets. They’re willing to travel to support me.”

So much for a fighter only having one pro debut. It’s like “Groundhog Day” for the latest fighter from the City of Champions (Brockton), David Ribeiro, who can’t wait to get into the ring.

“I was heartbroken when I got the call in May from Dave’s opponent that he got cold feet and skipped out on the flight,”

Granite Chin president Chris Traietti commented. “Well, heartbroken, enraged, and a few other emotions to go with it. Making that call knowing how disappointed he was going to be, made me sick to my stomach. But, like the gentleman he is, Dave took it in stride and didn’t let it get him down. He is staying ready, and I have no doubt he is going to make a statement on June 25th. Dave was a high-level amateur with a ton of confidence. We are going to move him along rapidly, but in control and within 18 months, you will see him fighting on TV.”

The evening card will be headlined by undefeated Holyoke (MA) welterweight prospect Denzel “Double Impact” Whitley (8-0, 6 KOs), 26, who will headline for the first time in the 6-round main event versus Brazilian Maycon Oller Da Silva (1-4, 1 KO).

In the potential Fight of the Night, Massachusetts intra-state rivals Nathan Balakin (3-1, 1 KO), of Tyngsboro, and Attleboro’s Bryan Urday (2-1) square off in the 6-round co-featured event for the vacant Massachusetts Welterweight Championship.

Undefeated Floridian welterweight Josniel “TG” Castro (8-0, 6 KOs) returns again to New England, where  all of his pro fights have been held, to meet Bryan Goldsby (5-16) in a 6-round bout.

Woburn (MA) junior lightweight Julien “Black Dragon” Baptiste (3-2, 2 KOs) will seek revenge in a rematch against Alfred “Keenan” Raymond (1-2), of Warwick (RI), who won their first encounter last November by way of a 4-round split decision. They’ll be fighting in a scheduled 6-rounder on June 25th.

Undefeated Lowell (MA) welterweight Nicholas “Saint Nick” Molina (9-0, 3 KOs), known as the home of “Irish” Micky Ward, takes on upset-minded Argentinian Jose “El Chino” Aubel (8-10, 7 KOs) in a 6-round match.

Providence junior middleweight Rob “The Golden Child” Nolette (1-1, 1 KO) faces DeWayne Wisdom (7-61, 3 KOs) in a 4-round fight opening the evening’s action.

Another undefeated fighter, Pittsfield (MA) super middleweight Steve Sumpter (5-0, 5 KOs), will headline the day card in an 8-round match versus Manny “Shake Em’ Up” Woods (17-16-1, 6 KOs).

Pittsfield’s undefeated Sumpter brothers, super middleweight Steve (5-0, 5 KOs) and heavyweight Quinton (4-0, 4 KOs), will be showcased on the afternoon card.

Undefeated Pittsfield super middleweight Steve Sumpter (5-0, 5 KOs) headlines the matinee card in his first scheduled 8-rounder against Florida veteran Manny “Shake Em’ Up” Woods (17-6-1, 6 KOs).  Sumpter’s brother, unbeaten heavyweight Quinton, also fighting out of Pittsfield, throws-down with the brother of world champion Demetrius Andrade, Boston’s Tracey “The Titan” Johnson (4-10-6), in a 6-round fight.

Fighting out of nearby Marlboro (MA), local favorite Raphael Torres (1-0, 1 KO) faces Brazilian cruiserweight Igor Igor Pessoa (0-2) in the 4-round co-featured event.

Other 4-round fights during the afternoon session include Dracut (MA) lightweight Gabriel “Menace” Morales (3-0, 2 KOs) vs. Issac Haynes (0-1), Swansea (MA) junior middleweight Anthony “The Gentle Savage” Andreozzi (2-2, 1 KO) vs. Rynell Griffin (8-52-2, 2 KOs), New York cruiserweights Scott “Bombz” Lampert (2-5, 2 KOs) vs. Andrew Nolan (0-4), Methuen junior middleweight Luke Iannuccilli (1-0, 1 KO) vs. Robert Bricks (0-10), and Florida light heavyweight Carlos Arredondo (2-0, 2 KOs) vs. Michael Medeiros (0-1).

Both cards are subject to change.

Separate admission tickets are available for purchase at tickerriver.com (Search: Road2Stardom): day – $45.00 (general admission), $60.00 (ringside) and $750.00 for a table of 10; night – $50.00 (general admission), $75.00 (ringside) and $1,000 for a table of 10.

Doors open at 1:00 pm ET and 7 p.m. ET, respectively, with first bouts at 1:30 p.m. ET and 7:30 p.m. ET.

Brockton’s standout amateur boxer David Ribeiro excited to make professional debut May 7th

QUINCY, Mass. (April 18, 2022) – Boxers make only one professional debut and Brockton (MA) welterweight David Ribeiro is excited to make his May 7th on the “Hometown Royalty” in the first pro boxing event held in nearby Bridgewater (MA), at Bridgewater Veterans Club in Bridgewater, Massachusetts (85 Cottage St.).

“Hometown Royalty” is presented by Granite Chin, in association with Cappiello Boxing Promotions and Shearns Boxing Promotions.

Fighting out of the “City of Champions,” Brockton son Ribeiro was a celebrated amateur having won gold medals at the 2020 New England Golden Gloves, 2019 King of the Ring, and the regional Mike Tyson Tournament.

Ribeiro quickly realized that there are several key differences between amateur and pro boxing, as well as the importance of keeping his poise despite being excited, especially with his family, friends and fans screaming his name with every thrown punch.

“The big difference is in preparation, physically and mentally, and it’s also more about promoting the event to get people to come,” Ribeiro explained about turning pro. “There’s a buzz here in Brockton. I’m excited!

“I’ll need to stay disciplined and humbled in the gym. Train now, celebrate later. I’m never really satisfied and always want to better myself and stay humble. I’ve had good sparring and I’m in top shape. I’m fighting a little lighter – welterweight – and that requires more cardio work. There are a few pounds difference between amateur and pro welterweight divisions. No headgear will allow me to see better in the ring. This is a different level. There is much more preparation and training as a pro.”

Ribeiro’s opponent for their 4-round bout is Fernando Perez (0-3), of Plymouth (MA).

“My team does the research on my opponents, and they train me to be prepared,” Ribeiro said. “They train me to win, I fight. I leave all the research to my team. I want to have an impressive pro debut to get people excited to see me fight against and look forward to my future.”

“I’m excited to have David’s pro debut close to his home,” Granite Chin president Chris Traietti commented. “I’ve heard nothing but great things about him in and out of the ring. I look forward to seeing his pro career get started and flourish. May 7th is simply the first step in what I know will be a successful journey.”

Holbrook (MA) junior welterweight Mike “Bad Man” Ohan, Jr. (14-1, 8 KOs) faces “El Chino” Aubel (8-9, 7 KOs), of Argentina, in the 8-round main event. Ohan is dropping down in weight from welterweight, in which he captured and defended the New England title.

Former world-rated Ryan “The Polish Prince” Kielczweski (30-6, 11 KOs), of Quincy (MA), takes on Argentinian lightweight Mario Lozano (18-5-1, 9 KOs), in the 8-round co-featured event. The 32-year-old Kielczweski was a 2008 National Golden Gloves silver medalist, as well as a 2-time New England Golden Gloves Champion.

Undefeated New Bedford light heavyweight Edet Mkpanam (6-0, 5 KOs), a 2018 New England Golden Gloves runner-up, fights Scott “Bombz” Lampert (2-4, 2 KOs) in a 6-rounder, while Fall River (MA) welterweight Damon Towns (4-0, 3 KOs) meets Robert Bricks (0-9) in a 4-round match.

Card subject to change.

Tickets are on sale, $60.00 standing room and $40.00 floor seats, and available for purchase at www.TicketRiver.com (Search: Hometown Royalty).
