Grant Flores scored a first round stoppage over Freddy Espinoza in a scheduled six-round super welterweight bout.

In round one, Espinoza began to bleed from his nose. Later in the round, Flores landed a vicious left hook to the body that sent Espinoza to a knee and then crumpled on his back in riving pain and the bout as stopped at

Joshua Garcia had to get off the deck and survive a cut to remain undefeated as he won a six-round split decision over veteran Diuhl Olguin in a six-round lightweight bout.

In round two, Olguin dropped Garcia with a counter right. Seconds later, an accidental headbutt caused a cut over Olguin’s the hairline. Garcia was cut over the left eye.

Garcia landed 107 of 293 punches. Olguin was 82 of 261.

Garcia won two cards by scores of 58-55 and 57-56. Olguin won a card 57-56.

Anthony Saldivar won a four-round unanimous decision over Henry Rivera in a middleweight bout.

Jesus Perez scored a split decision over former world champion Joseph Diaz via 10-round split decision in a spirited super lightweight bout at the Commerce Hotel and Casino in Commerce, California,

In round five, Diaz was deducted a point for shoving Perez.

Perez landed 137 of 804 punches. Diaz was 188 of 471.

Perez won two cards 96-94 and a ridiculous 99-90 while Diaz won a card 95-94.

Perez, 138.2 lbs of Tijuana, MEX is 25-5. Diaz, 137.6 lbs of South El Monte, CA is 33-5-1.

Despite being knocked down, Jorge Chavez won a six-round unanimous decision over veteran Diuhl Olguin in a featherweight bout.

In round one, Olguin dropped Chavez with a jab to the upper body. That was the only blemish for Chavez as he won by (somehow) 60-54 and 58-55 twice.

Chavez, 123.6 lbs of Tijuana, MEX is 10-0. Olguin, 124 lbs of Guadalajara, MEX is 16-35-7.

In a battle of undefeated lightweights, Joshua Garcia stopped Eric Lozada in the opening round of their four-round lightweight bout.

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA – Tough journeyman Diuhl Olguin held unbeaten local featherweight William Villa to a split decision draw in the six-round main event to cap an eight-fight card at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel on Saturday night. 

The much shorter Olguin (15-30-6, 10 KOs) of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico gave Villa (6-0-1) Sacramento problems by getting inside the younger fighter’s long reach. Olguin’s lack of height actually proved to be a benefit, as his ducking posture helped to lead some punches thrown by Villa, 127 ½, to stray to the backside of his head, prompting warnings from referee Edward Collantes. 

Despite his many fights, Olguin, 127, proved to still have tread on his tires as he maintained a steady pace for the six rounds and his conditioning proved to be every bit as strong as that of the younger Villa. The Sacramento native was unable to keep the Mexican veteran at the end of his jab and keep the distance he needed to give his long arms room to land effectively. What resulted was a hard-to-score inside fight for the six rounds. 

In the end, the official scoring was wide in range. Judge Michael Margado had the bout for Villa, 58-56, while Judge Phil DiSousa scored it 59-55 for Olguin and Judge Brian Tsukamoto scored the bout 57-57 even. 

Olguin holds a deceiving record, given the long list of undefeated prospects he has been matched with throughout his career. Villa, who ended an eighteen month layoff, took the fight on less than one week’s notice, taking the place of injured Malikai Johnson. “Machine Gun” Johnson addressed his fanbase on Saturday night, vowing to return to the ring after being sidelined with an eye injury that required surgery earlier in the week.

Another local favorite returning to the ring after a long layoff on Saturday, Ruben Torres (5-2, 1 KO) of Sacramento scored a workmanlike four-round unanimous decision over a game opponent in Luis Garcia (3-2, 1 KO) of San Diego, California. 

Torres, 155, outworked and outlanded the forward-moving Garcia, 156, for much of the bout. Despite lopsided announced scores of 40-35, 40-36 and 39-37 for Torres, the fight was fairly competitive as the Sacramento native worked off a bit of ring rust early in the bout. 

Super bantamweight prospect Irving Xilohua (5-0, 3 KOs) of Stockton, California continued to impress with a one-punch, second-round knockout of Phillip Ramirez (0-1) of Sacramento.

After a measured first round Xilohua, 123, landed a picture-perfect straight right hand from distance that dropped Ramirez, 123, to the canvas. Referee Edward Collantes immediately called a halt to the bout at the 1:33 mark of round two. 

Julian Bridges (3-0, 2 KOs) of Antioch, California outboxed Milton Ramirez (1-1) of Sacramento en route to an exciting four-round unanimous decision.

Both Bridges, 140 ¼, and Ramirez, 140, took turns switching from southpaw and orthodox and back over the four rounds. Bridges’ edge in reach and offensive output led to a sweep of the judges’ cards, 40-36. 

In a four-round slugfest from start to finish, Mario Alexander (0-1) of Sparks, Nevada appeared to have spoiled the professional debut of Sacramento’s Terrell Glynn (1-0), but the three official scorers wound up seeing it the other way, to the dismay of many of the patrons on hand.

The shorter Alexander, 177, set the distance from the first bell, negating the long reach of the lanky Glynn, 177. Neither fighter may have thrown a jab but the power punches landed with great regularity throughout. 

Hernandez, who had a large contingent of supporters in the building, looked to have held an edge in hard landed punches, but came up short on the cards 39-37 three times. 

Josias Gonzalez (1-1) of Whittier, California by way of Jalisco, Jalisco, Mexico outworked Aaron Cadena (0-1) of Sacramento over four rounds en route to unanimous decision. Cadena, 153, tried his best to keep pace, but Gonzalez, 153 ½, was the more aggressive and harder puncher throughout, sweeping all three cards, 40-36.

In amateur kickboxing action, Alberto Montano of Sacramento took a three-round unanimous decision over Yusuf Kamara of Antioch and Ermias Jones of Sacramento scored a three-round decision over Everett Alanis of Sacramento to open the evening.

Upper Cut Promotions, promoter of Saturday night’s card, will bring their next event to the Gold Country Casino Resort in Oroville, California on May 27th.

Leonardo Sanchez made a successful pro debut with a four-round unanimous decision over Erick Espinoza in a junior welterweight bout.

Sanchez, 131.7 lbs of Indio, CA won by scores of 40-36 on all cards and is now 1-0. Espinoza, 138 lbs of Los Mochis, MEX is 1-1-2.

Stephanie Chavez remained undefeated with a four-round unanimous decision over Esli Cervantes in a super flyweight fight.

Chavez, 114.5 lbs of Orange, CA won by score of 40-36 on all cards and is now 2-0. Cervantes, 113.7 lbs of Aguas Calientes, MEX is 0-1.

LAS VEGAS, NV (June 14, 2022) – Super bantamweight prospect, Darren “The Gift” Cunningham (16-2, 8 KOs), brought boxing back to his hometown of St. Louis and scored a unanimous 8-round decision against veteran journeyman, Diuhl Olguin (15-24-3, 10 KOs). Over 3,500 people packed the Ambassador Club where the event, promoted by Showout Boxing Promotions and DC3 Promotions, took place.

Cunningham controlled the action from the opening bell by using superior lateral movement and combination punching. Olhuin showed a lot of heart and had his moments but could not deal with the boxing skills Cunningham was displaying. Scorecards read 79-73 twice and 78-74, all in favor of Cunningham.

“Every fight moving forward is a must win situation for me, so I knew I needed to step up my game,” said Cunningham who suffered his second loss as a professional in his last fight. “I’m realizing that I just need to box my way to victory if the knockout doesn’t come early. I’ve been trying to get these guys out of there and that has been the problem. I just need to dictate the action and get the win by all means necessary.”

Former light flyweight world champion Angel Acosta needed just 77 seconds to take out Janel Rivera in their scheduled 10-round flyweight bout at the Fantasy Springs Resort in India, California.

Acosta hurt Rivera with a hard left hook and then landed about 20 unanswered shots and the fight was stopped.

Acosta, 112.8 lbs of San Juan, PR is now 23-3-1 with 22 knockouts. Rivera, 114 lbs of Vega Baja, PR is 18-9-3.

“I always train well for every fight, we knew Janiel was going to be a strong fighter and I didn’t want to under prepare for this fight,” said Angel Acosta. “I saw an opportunity to end the fight early and I took it. I had a great camp with Joel Diaz and I feel he got me ready for this. Naturally we trained to go the distance, but fortunately we ended it early and got a great victory. We want to go back to the gym train and look for another world championship shot, hopefully Julio Cesar Martinez or McWilliams Arroyo.”

Victor Morales dropped Alberto Torres twice en-route to a 10-round unanimous decision in a featherweight bout.

Morales scored knockdowns in rounds five and 10, and cruised home to the 100-88 victory on all cards.

Marlen Esparza was born to make history in boxing. Born in Houston, Texas, Marlen Esparza began her boxing career at 12 years old after growing up in a household that loved the sport. In May 2012, Esparza became the first American woman to qualify to compete in the 2012 Olympics in London, the first year that women’s boxing made its debut as an Olympic event. She would win the bronze medal in the women’s flyweight division. Mikaela Mayer remained perfect as she dominated and won a 10-round unanimous decision over Jennifer Han at The Hanger in Costa Mesa, California.

Mayer landed 192 of 586 punches; Han was 63 of 384.

In round four, Han was bleeding from the nose. Mayer pushed the action and was never challenged as she won by scores of 100-90 twice and 99-91.

Mayer 129.8 lbs of Los Angeles is 17-0. Han, 128.8 lbs of El Paso, TX is 18-5-1.

Mayer said, “I feel like I did a lot of good things in there. Her movement, I think, is what she does best and it throws you off. Floyd Diaz stopped Blake Quintana in round four of their six-round junior featherweight bout.

In round four, Diaz caught Quintana with a perfect right to the soler plexus that put him to a knee for the 10-count at 43 seconds.

Duke Ragan remained undefeated with a six-round unanimous decision over Diuhl Olguin in a featherweight bout.

Jason Moloney won a 10-round unanimous decision over Francisco Javier Pedroza in a bantamweight bout.

Moloney, 119.4 lbs of Melbourne, AUS won by scores of 100-90 and 99-91 twice and is now 23-2. Pedroza, 119.8.8 lbs of Tijuana, MEX is 17-11-2.

2021 U.S. Olympian, Ginny Fuchs made a successful pro debut with a fourth round stoppage over Randee Lynn Morales in a flyweight bout.

In round one, Fuchs dropped Morales with a combination that was punctuated with a straight left. In round three, Morales began to swelll around her left eye. Fuchs was dominant and the bout was stopped in round four after Fuchs landed a big uppercut at 24 seconds.

Fuchs, 109.8 lbs of Houston, TX is 1-0 with one knockout. Morales, 110.6 lbs of Albuquerque, NM is 4-4.

Luis Alberto Lopez stopped Raul Chirino in round four of a scheduled eight-round featherweight bout.

Lopez dropped Chirino in round two, twice in round four, and ended it with a body shot at 1:08 of round four.

Robson Conceicao won a 10-round unanimous decision in a junior lightweight bout over previously undefeated Xavier Martinez at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Tulsa in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Conceicao landed 125 of 549 punches; Martinez was 107 of 585.

Conceicao, 129.6 lbs of Baiha, BRA won by scores of 100-90, 99-91 and 98-92 and is now 17-1. Martinez, 120.4 lbs of Sacramento, CA is also now 17-1.

“I learned a lot from that Oscar Valdez loss, and that’s why I was able to dedicate myself,” Conceição said. “I wasn’t discouraged by what happened that evening. I know who I am, and I knew if I put in the work, I could have this type of performance. But my mind is set on Valdez, and I definitely want that shot.

“To be honest, I think Xavier Martinez punches harder than Oscar Valdez. I felt his punches, but I know this is the type of fight I needed to prepare myself because I’m a world champion level fighter. And I definitely want Oscar Valdez.”

Martinez said, “I thought it was closer. I know I didn’t do enough to win. I sat back too much. I didn’t listen to the game plan fully. It is what it is. I’m not going to be a sore loser. He did his thing tonight. It wasn’t my night. I’m not done. This is just the beginning.”

Cabrera Decisions Giron

Giovanni Cabrera won an eight-round unanimous decision over Rene Tellez Giron in a junior welterweight bout.

Cabrera landed 145 of 595 punches; Giron was 122 of 324.

Cabrera, 138.6 lbs of Chicago, IL won by scores of 78-74 twice and 77-75 and is now 19-0. Giron, 137 lbs of Mexico is 16-2.

Johnson Decisions Madrid

2021 U.S. Olympian Tiger Johnson won a four-round unanimous decision over Xavier Madrid in a battle of undefeated welterweights.

Johnson landed 83 of 263 punches; Madrid was 45 of 235.

Johnson, 145 lbs of Cleveland, OH won by scores of 40-36 on all cards and is 2-0. Madrid, 145.6 lbs of Albuquerque, NM is 3-1.

Stephan Shaw stopped Joey Dawejko in the 8th and final round of their heavyweight bout.

Shaw dominated the action and landed hard shots throughout on the durable Dawejko. Finally in round 10, Shaw landed a big flurry and the corner of Dawejko stopped the fight at 1:04

Shaw, 234.8 lbs of Saint Louis, MO is 16-0 with 12 knockouts. Dawejko, 258.6 lbs of Philadelphia is 21-10-4.

Carla Torres won a eight-round majority decision over Pink Tyson in a junior lightweight bout.

Torres, 129.6 lbs of Cleveland, OH won by scores of 80-72, 77-5 and 76-76 and now is 7-6. Tyson, 130 lbs of Brighton, ENG is 11-3.

Bruce Carrington scored a 2nd round stoppage over Steven Brown in round two of their four-round featherweight fight.

In round two, Carrington hurt Brown with a right hand. Carrington followed up with three vicious left hands that sent Brown to the canvas, and the fight was stopped at 43 seconds.

Jeremiah Milton remained undefeated with a 1st round annihilation of Dell Long in a four-round heavyweight bout.

Nico Ali Walsh stopped Jeremiah Yeager in round two of their scheduled four round middleweight bout.

Ali Walsh dropped Yeager with a right hand that was followed by a perfect left hook. Yeager was hurt badly and after Walsh did “The Ali Shuffle”, he landed another hard left that rocked Yeager and the fight was stopped at 2:39. Yeager, 159 lbs of Erie, PA is 1-2-1.

Ali Walsh said, “I think the main thing was staying calm, which I did. Another thing was head movement and defense, which I felt like I did improve on. I fought last month, so if I can make those small improvements in this such a short amount of time, who’s telling what I can do in my next fight?

Dante Benjamin Jr. made a successful pro debut with a 1st round stoppage over Emmy Rendon in a light heavyweight bout

In round one, Bemjamin dropped Rendon with a left to the soler plexus. Moments later, it was a left hook from Benjamin that sent Rendon down again and the fight was stopped at 2:05.

At 10 PM ET on ESPN, 2020 United States Olympian Tiger Johnson (1-0, 1 KO) of Cleveland, Ohio will make his 2nd start when he takes on Xavier Madrid (3-0, 1 KO) in a four-round battle of undefeated welterweights.

Johnson, 23, had a highly decorated amateur career finishing with a record of 188-17, and saw him win a Gold Medal in the 2016 Youth World Championships; a Bronze Medal at the 2019 Pan Am Games; a 2019 Last Chance Qualifier Championship; Four 2017 Elite National Championships; a 2016 Elite National Championship; a 2015 Youth National Championship; and a 2014 National Junior Olympic Championship.

Johnson made it to the quarterfinals of the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo before losing to the eventual Gold Medal winner, Cuban Roniel Iglesias.

Johnson was very impressive in his pro debut when he stopped Antonius Grable in the 4th round on November 20th in Las Vegas.

Madrid has a win over Cristian Castillo (3-0), and is coming off a 1st round stoppage of Daniel Arriaga on November 20th.

He is coming off a unanimous decision over previously undefeated Roberto Negrete (3-0) on October 23rd in Atlanta.

Dante Benjamin will be making his professional debut against undefeated Herman Rendon in a four-round light heavyweight bout.

Benjamin, 19 years-old of Cleveland, Ohio amassed over 100 wins as an amateur, and was a seven-time national champion as he was a 2016 and 2017 Junior National Champion, 2017 Eastern Regional Champion, and a 2018 Youth National champion. He also took first place in the Emil Jechev International tournament in Botevgrad, Bulgaria.

In 2017, he was named the Under Armour Fighter of the Year.

Seconds into the bout, Bunch landed a jab to the body the sent Perez to the canvas. Perez got to his feet, but not for long as Bunch landed an overhand right that sent Perez to the deck, and the fight was stopped at 34 seconds.

Donald Smith needed just 60 seconds to take out Jonathan Lecona Ra:mos in their six-round featherweight bout.

NEW YORK (March 10, 2021) -Heralded featherweight prospect David Navarro will be back in action on Wednesday night when he takes on veteran Diuhl Olguin in a six-round bout at The Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut (9 PM ET/PT)

Navarro is managed by Split-T Management under the guidance of Tim VanNewhouse.

Navarro of Los Angeles has a record of 2-0 with both wins coming via knockout.

Both of Navarro’s previous fights have also been at the Mohegan Sun, with his most recent outing being a 1st round stoppage over Jason Vera on December 12, 2020.

Olguin of Guadalajara, Mexico has a deceiving record of 14-16-4 with nine knockouts.

The 32 year-old Olguin has a quality wins on his ledger over Horacio Garcia (32-2-1); Kevin Rivers Jr. (14-1); Tenochtitlan Nava (7-1). He is coming off a unanimous decision loss to prospect Jalan Walker on December 18th in Hollywood, Florida.

Navarro, 20, began training in the sport at the age of five, and was a multi-time National Champion who competed in over 170 amateur bouts.

In December, 2019, Navarro was one of only eight boxers in his weight division to compete for a spot on Team USA’s Olympic squad. During the 10-day event, he made it all the way to the finals by upsetting top seed Duke Ragan and in January was named as an Olympic Alternate for the 2020 Olympics, now rescheduled to take place in 2021.

In addition to David’s deep amateur accolades, he comes from one of the great Mexican American boxing families. David is the younger brother of Golden Boy Promotions undefeated junior welterweight prospect Johnathan Navarro, and his cousins, Steven and Chantel, are widely regarded as two of the top young prospects in the USA amateur system.

David is also the nephew of former Olympian Jose Navarro, who competed at the 2000 Sydney Olympic games, and Carlos Navarro, one of America’s greatest amateurs in the 90’s, who is well-known for being the the last American to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. by winning a box-off at the 1995 Pan-American Games.
