Andre Berto avenged his first professional loss as he stopped Victor Ortiz in round four of their scheduled 12-round Welterweight bout.

In round one, a clash of heads caused a cut on the hairline of Ortiz,  In  round two, Ortiz dropped Berto with a straight left.  In round four, Berto dropped Ortiz with a straight right hand.  Ortiz was in trouble and took punishment on the ropes and a hard uppercut put Ortiz on the canvas for a second time.  Ortiz was if he wanted to continue by referee Jack Reiss but Ortiz didn’t answer and the fight was stopped at 1:14 of round 4

Berto of Winter Haven, CA is 31-4 with 24 knockouts.  Ortiz of Ventura, CA is 31-6-2.

Thomas Williams Jr. scored the biggest win of his career when he scored a stunning 2nd round stoppage over Edwin Rodriguez in a scheduled 10-round Light Heavyweight bout.

It was a firefight from the word go, as both guys landed huge bombs that had each other rocked and hurt on several occasions.  Just before the end of the 2nd frame, Williams nailed Rodriguez with a booming right hook that sent Rodriguez to the canvas.  Rodriguez got to his feet, but was wobbly and referee Wayne Hedgepeth stopped the bout at 2:59 of round two.

Williams, 177 lbs of Laurel, MD is now 20-1 with 14 knockouts.  Rodriguez, 177 lbs of Worcester, MA is 28-2.

Jorge Lara took out former world champion Fernando Montiel by registering 4 knockdowns in a just over a minute of their Featherweight bout.

Lara dropped Montiel seconds in with a right hook.  Montiel was wobbly when he got up and was dropped two more times with right hooks.  He was allowed to continue after the third knockdown only to be leveled with anrother rght hook and he went down face first and the fight was stopped at 1:37.

Lara, 124 lbs of Guadalajara, MX is now 28-0-2 with 20 knockouts.  Montiel, 126 lbs lbs of Los Mochis, MX has seen better days and his record now stands at 54-6-2.

Good looking Super Middleweight prospect David Benavidez stopped Phil Jackson in round two of their scheduled eight round bout.

Benavidez systematically beat down Jackson over the first round and a half until he landed a uppercut and shot to the body that softened Jackson up for a follow up left hook that sent Jackson down face first and the fight was stopped at 2:07.

Benavidez of Phoenix, AZ is now 14-0 with 13 knockouts.  Benson is now 16-3.

Gerald Washington remained undefeated by scoring a 8-round unanimous decision over former world title challenger Eddie Chambers.

Washington of Los Angeles won by scores of 8-72 twice and 79-73 and is now 17-0-1.  Chambers of Philadelphia is 44-3.

Atlantic City, NJ (September 16, 2015)– This Friday night at the Claridge in Atlantic City, former world Heavyweight title challenger, Eddie Chambers will be fighting as a Heavyweight in the United States for the first time in over three years when he takes on Galen Brown in the 8-round co-feature on a card promoted by King’s Promotions.

The show will be headlined by another 8-round Heavyweight bout that will pit Travis Kauffman (29-1, 21 KO’s) taking on Epifanio Mendoza (41-21-1, 35 KO’s).

Chambers of Philadelphia, challenged for the Heavyweight championship of the world in 2010 when he was topped by Wladimr Klitschko in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Since then, Chambers has been trying to get back to that lofty perch but a disputed loss to Tomasz Adamek and a loss to Thabiso Mchunu in Chambers’ one appearance at Cruiserweight seemed to impede his rise back to the top.

Chambers gathered himself and spent ample time in England to train in the camp of mandatory title challenger Tyson Fury and was able to win five straight (4 by knockout) in the United Kingdom.

Now he is back and focusing on once again being a top Heavyweight contender and earning another chance at Heavyweight glory.

“Everything is going pretty good. It has been a smooth transition coming back here,” said Chambers.

“When I went to England, I went with the intention of campaigning there and getting big fights over there. I learned a great deal of boxing, life and about myself from Peter Fury and the rest of the guys. I was creating a life there. I just want to come back here now but I do plan to fight in England again. They have knowledgeable fight fans and they really embraced me.”

Now back in the States, Chambers has inked up with Al Haymon and he feels that this is the right time to make another move in the Heavyweight division.

“Fighting close to home is a good situation to come back to. I have been able to train in familiar surroundings and I am just going to do my thing.”

In Brown, he is fighting a grizzled veteran who has fought 75 times and has taken on many former champions, title challengers and top contenders.

“He is a journeyman, but I respect all fighters. Anyone who gets in the ring, you must respect. He has fought 75 times and knows a lot of tricks and is awkward and unconventional.”

Chambers believes that he is close to getting back in position and it won’t be long that he is back fighting for the title.

“I am staying at Heavyweight. I want the bigger fights as soon as I can. I think because of my name, experience and ability, that opportunity will come sooner rather than later and I look forward to that. I want to thank my team and fans for the continued support and look for me to get back into a big fight real shortly.”

Eddie Chambers discussed the current state of boxing’s heavyweight division. He said, “The heavyweight division is hot as it has been in a while. Chambers recapped the previous two years of his boxing journey. He said, “In 2013, I took some time off from boxing and went through a lengthy, self-evaluation period. My most recent fight was in November of last year in London. I traveled back to the United States earlier this year, and I put together a new boxing team. LONDON (4 NOV) American heavyweight ‘Fast’ Eddie Chambers believes gym mate Tyson Fury will score a repeat victory over bitter rival Derek Chisora on November 29 and put himself right in the mix for a shot at the world heavyweight championship in 2015.

Chambers, of course, boxed for the world heavyweight title in 2010. And now, as a fully-fledged member of Team Fury, the Philadelphia slickster couldn’t be better positioned to analyse the form of Fury ahead of his British and European title fight.

“Chisora is not going to do anything differently to what he’s been doing his whole career,” said Chambers, who fights this Saturday (November 8) at Glow, Bluewater. “He’s a tough, durable, come-forward, swing-big-shots-at-you kind of guy. He’ll try putting the pressure on again and he’ll want to be a little more mobile than he was first time around so that he can try and cut Tyson off.

“The problem for him is that Tyson has no shutdown. This dude works like a maniac. Even though he’s one of the biggest heavyweights in the world, he has an engine like a four-year-old. He doesn’t stop. He’s always running around. He’s always active. Sometimes you look at him and think, ‘Man, just take a nap. Slow down. Stop it. Get tired.’

“Also, his length and boxing ability will always cause Chisora problems. It would be different if Chisora didn’t throw a lot of punches and was careful and calculated. But that’s not the case. He pressures you and he attacks and leaves gaps. It’s going to be very difficult for him to get close to Tyson without eating shots on the way in.

“And you’re not taking two or three shots from a guy the same size as you. You’re taking two or three shots from a much bigger man. Tyson is naturally a much, much bigger man.”

Chisora’s toughness and grit often neutralises the advantages of his taller opponents, but Chambers doubts that will be the case on November 29. He fully expects Fury to dominate. He’s almost tempted to predict a stoppage.

“David Haye is the only guy to stop Chisora and he can really crack,” said Chambers. “He hits extremely hard for a man of his size.

“But Chisora is going to feel that same sharpness and snap on November 29. And, rather than taking punches from a 15-stone dude, he will be taking punches from a man weighing 18 or 19 stone. That’s a big difference. You can’t keep taking that kind of punishment and expect to last too long.

“I’m not saying Chisora’s going to get stopped. I’m not 100% sure yet and you never can be certain. But, let me tell you, taking punishment from a big, athletic dude over any amount of time is not fun. It makes you think, ‘Damn, I’m not going in there. I’m staying out here where it’s safe.’ And when that happens, it starts to become a fun fight for Tyson Fury.”

LONDON (29 OCT) Former world heavyweight title challenger ‘Fast’ Eddie Chambers likes what he has seen of fast-rising prospect Anthony Joshua, but fears his run of soft opposition may only serve to hurt him in the future.

The 32-year-old Chambers, once of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, now an honorary member of Team Fury in Bolton, speaks from experience. Back in March 2010 he scaled the heights and challenged Wladimir Klitschko for the world heavyweight championship. He therefore knows a good heavyweight when he sees one.

“At the moment they’re doing a good job of making Joshua look unbeatable,” said Chambers. “The only problem with that is you get to a point where that’s all you’re used to. Then you get in there with somebody who can prove you’re very beatable. Then panic sets in. Then you realise you have no foundations or experience to fall back on.

“Unfortunately, there’s too much fanfare from TV right now. They’re trying to analyse the improvements when he’s fighting nobodies. They’re putting a guy who is 6’6 in with much smaller guys who aren’t really talented or athletic in the slightest. They have no talent beyond coming forward and blocking shots with their face.

“How do you asses someone’s development against these opponents? Joshua won’t even get hit by these guys. And, if he does, it’s just a lucky shot.”

Chambers, 39-4 (21 KOs), continued: “Joshua’s a big, strong, athletic guy. He’s a super athlete. These big heavyweights are a different breed to what they were a few years back.

“And that means you shouldn’t match him against smaller guys with no ambition and then expect him to somehow be tested. It won’t happen. You have to put him in with someone who is either similar in size to him or at the very least someone who is athletic, slick, durable or strong.

“I’m not saying he won’t beat these opponents. He could go in there, wipe them out and surprise me. But, until that happens, we don’t really know how good he is.

“Ultimately, if you want him to become a world champion and you want him to reach the top, you can’t keep feeding him the same stale food every time. You’ve got to feed him something spicy now and again to keep his taste buds alive.”

Renowned for being an often avoided member of the heavyweight division, Chambers doesn’t expect a call from Joshua’s promoter anytime soon. But, in the unlikely event that the call does arrive, he’s more than happy to ask a question or two of the unbeaten Londoner.

“People might start believing their own BS and could be quick to test him,” said Chambers, who next appears on November 8 at Glow, Bluewater. “If that happens, I may get the call. I don’t expect it to happen anytime soon, as there are other fights out there for him that don’t carry as much risk, but I would never say ‘no’ to an opportunity like that. It would be nice.

“I’d like to see him go all the way, though. I’d like to see him get far. Let’s see these young guys go out and prove themselves. Then, if our paths meet and there’s a bit of meat dangling between two dogs, I’m not the type to back down.”

London (15 May) ‘Fast’ Eddie Chambers is on a mission back to world level and is ready to show that at Leeds Town Hall on Saturday night (May 17).

The former world heavyweight title contender takes on Carl Baker and is determined to prove his class on the undercard to the MaxiNutrition Knockout semi-finals, live on Channel 5 from 10pm.

“I’m feeling as good as I’ve ever felt – strong, focused and determined to get back to where I need to be in this sport,” Eddie said.

“I’m going to give you a reason to come and support me because I’m planning on taking this straight to the title, there’s no question about it and we’ll make some history on the way.”

Eddie takes on Carl Baker, who boasts 10 wins with seven knockouts and will be looking for another scalp with world level pedigree.

In 2009 the Sheffield heavyweight defeated Danny Williams, a man who boasts a knockout win over the former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world Mike Tyson and challenged Vitalli Klitschko for the WBC world heavyweight title.

But Eddie, who fought Wladimir Klitschko for the IBF, IBO and WBO world heavyweight titles isn’t concerned with who his opponent is and is confident that under the tutelage of trainer Peter Fury he will get back to the top of the sport.

“There is no question about it, for someone like myself , who got there without the best of everything – now getting the best of everything there is no excuse for me,” Eddie said.

“That’s the only place I belong, at world level and if I can’t make it there then what’s the point – I don’t want to give anyone the satisfaction to be able to say he gave up, he can’t do this, he can’t do that and he’s not going to be this and he’s not going to be that.

“They’ve said it before and I’ll continue to show them otherwise – it’s something that motivates me and it motivates all of us because we use the negativity as fuel to push us further and to strive to prove them wrong.”

Chambers fights over 8 x 3minute rounds on the undercard to the MaxiNutrition Knockout semi finals where newly crowned British light heavyweight champion and Leeds fighter Bob Ajisafe takes on Swanley’s Southern Area champion Leon Senior and English champion and Newcastle fighter Travis Dickinson makes the first defence of his title against Preston’s Central Area champion Matty Clarkson.

MANCHESTER (Jan. 14) – American heavyweight hitman Eddie Chambers has joined Team Fury Promotions and will be trained by the renowned Peter Fury.

The Philadelphian bruiser turned professional in 2000 at just 18 and has amassed a record of 40 fights with 36 wins and only four defeats.

At 31 he has been in with some of the leading names in the heavyweight division including IBF, WBA and WBO world champion Wladimir Klitschko, as well as going the distance with Alexander Povetkin and Tomasz Adamek.

He now joins the stable of rising heavyweight sensations Tyson Fury and Hughie Fury, who have made huge strides in recent times under the tutelage of Peter Fury.

After falling just short of world title glory, Chambers, a former cruiserweight, is now aiming to go one step further by capturing such honour at heavyweight with Team Fury.

PHILADELPHIA (August 30, 2013)—This is an open letter to the fans who support me as well to those who don’t.
First off, I want to congratulate my opponent Thabiso Mchunu of South Africa for his victory against me. I do not want to in any form or fashion diminish that win by making excuses about my performance in the ring. I did my best that I could to make the fight. To win the fight. Losing this decision woke up my spirit to compete again and I will continue to pursue my career as a Cruiserweight.

I felt fine throughout the bout. The weight loss was not a factor in my performance. I did not expect Mchunu to fight such a defensive, awkward fight. I was trying to follow instructions from my trainer, James Ali Bashir. It was very difficult to do as I am a counter puncher as well who was forced into being the aggressor. I felt that if I did not doing something to make the fight, there would have been no action during the fight. I am not that kinda guy who is going to lay around crying over spilled milk.

I want to get right back in there the way the old-school warriors used to do many years ago. I take full responsibility for this critical setback in my career. My incentive is back and hopefully I will be able to meet Mchunu down the road and there will be a far a different result.

I look forward to meeting the top Cruiserweights in the world. I think my biggest enemy is inactivity. I have fought just three times in the last three years. I want to get busy as soon as possible. I will show the world that I am a long way from being done.

“Fast” Eddie Chambers

Curtis Stevens entered tonight’s middleweight bout against Saul Roman with the knowledge that a solid performance could assure him a big money title fight against Gennady Golovkin in his next appearance. His execution couldn’t have been better.

Early in round one, Stevens stunned Roman with a left hook and proceeded to unload shots, finally dropping him with a hard left hook. Roman was able to beat the count and was trying desperately to survive when a brutal counter left hook put him out cold.

So viscous was the KO that it all but put ink on the Golovkin-Stevens contract. Stevens does have legit power and assuming Golovkin-Stevens does get made, it’ll be fun while it lasts. Stevens improves to 25-3 (18KO’s) while Roman slides to 37-10 (31KO’s).

In what amounted to a stay busy fight, heavyweight Tomasz Adamek soundly outpointed the aging Dominick Guinn over 10 one-sided rounds. Adamek was initially scheduled to take on Tony Grano in a more significant fight, but a neck injury forced Grano to withdraw from the fight and Guinn took his place on short notice.

The fight between Adamek and Guinn, despite being a downgrade,turned out about as well as could be expected. Neither fighter was ever in any trouble, but Adamek was able to keep the crowd entertained by putting together 3, 4 and 5 punch combinations during each of the rounds.

Guinn, a once promising prospect who is now out of shape and in the twilight of his career, still possessed enough defense and power to keep Adamek from overwhelming him. Guinn has never been stopped and the punches he did land throughout the fight clearly kept Adamek honest.

A cut opened over Guinn’s eye in round three from an accidental headbutt but it had little effect on the fight. It was all Adamek throughout and the scores reflected it: 98-92 and 99-91 (twice) all in favor of Adamek.

Although the fight didn’t do much to raise his stock in the division, Adamek did get 10 solid rounds in and remains in place to mix it up with any of the current heavyweight contenders. His record now stands at 49-2 (29KO’s).

Guinn has become the consummate journeyman and still has enough pop in his shots to remain in the role for the foreseeable future. He drops to 34-10 (31KO’s).

If Eddie Chambers was hoping to excite people about his entrance into the cruiser weight division, his debut tonight against Thabiso Mchunu was a disaster on all counts. A lethargic Chambers seemed content to follow Mchunu around the ring, alternately posturing and flicking out the occasional jab. Mchunu did little to help, as his strategy was to counter and Chambers’lack of activity offered little to work with.

So for 30 minutes, the two circled around the ring and stared each other down. Nearly the only scoring blows were produced by Mchunu left hand counters. Each round was nearly a mirror image and few could blame Mchunu for pot-shotting his way to the biggest win of his career. Scores were 97-93 and 99-91 (twice).

Mchunu improves to 13-1 (9KO’s) and it remains to be seen how good he really is simply because Chambers looked so terrible. For Chambers, (now 36-4 18KO’s) it seems time to reassess whether or not he wants to continue to be a professional prize fighter; because his performance tonight was one of a man who has lost all interest in boxing.

Up and coming heavyweight Vyacheslav Glazkov displayed his power and annihilated journeyman Byron Polley in less than two rounds. Midway through round 1 Polley hit the canvas via a hard right hand from Glazkov. Polley rode out the 8 count on one knee but when he rose, was met from another flurry from Glazkov that put him on the canvas for the second time.

Polley survived the round but was overpowered seconds into round two. A left hook, right hand left hook combo from Glazkov dumped Polley to the seat of his pants and referee Harvey Dock waived off the fight without a count.Time of the stoppage was 30 seconds of round two. Glazkov remains unbeaten at 15-0-1 (11KO’s) while Polley slips to 25-16-1 (11KO’s).

Glazkov’s manager, Egis Klimas said after the fight that Glazkov was looking to fight Dereck Chisora in his next bout.

In a 6 round lightweight tilt, East Hartford native Joseph “Chip”Perez dropped a unanimous decision to Staten Island, NY’s Mike Brooks. Brooks opened with a strong body attack and stuck to his plan throughout the fight. Perez was busy but largely ineffective for the first 4 rounds. He picked up the pace in rounds 5 and 6, but was docked a point for an elbow in round 6 that effectively put the fight out of reach. Scores at the end were 57-56, 59-54 and 60-53 all in favor of Brooks; who now stands at 11-0 (2KO’s). Perez drops his second in a row and is now 10-3 (3KO’s).

In the opening bout of the evening undefeated junior middleweight Tony Harrison made short work of his opponent Gilbert Alex Sanchez, blitzing him out before the end of the second round. Harrison was mostly inactive during the first round and he allowed Sanchez to wing punches at his body and head with limited success.

Halfway through round 2, Harrison started sitting down on his punches and scored a delayed reaction knockdown with a jab right hand to Sanchez’s head. Sanchez was slow to rise but to his credit mounted spirited effort to get back into the fight before being dropped for good by a Harrison body shot. Referee Harvey Dock waived off the fight at 2:10 of round 2. Harrison improves to 14-0 (11KO’s) while Sancez drops to 2-3 (2KO’s).

Welterweights Jimmy Williams and Greg Jackson plodded through a 4 rounder in a fight in which neither fighter was willing to risk opening up in order to secure the win. Jackson tried counter punching for most of the fight but the strategy was ineffective because Williams was hesitant to display much more than a jab in each of the four rounds.

The result was an ugly split draw. One judge had it 39-37 for Williams but was overruled by the other two who had it even at 38-38. Both fighters remain undefeated: Williams at 4-0-1 (2KO’s) and Jackson at 3-0-1 (1KO).

UNCASVILLE, CT – Prior to the bulging tripleheader scheduled for a national television audience on the next edition of the Fight Night boxing series on NBC Sports Network, an equally full slate of undercard bouts are set to deliver knockout thrills to the live ringside audience at the Mohegan Sun Casino on Saturday night, August 3rd.

The night will end with the trio of 10-round TV fights that include middleweight Curtis “Showtime” Stevens, 24-3, 17 KOs, against Saul Roman, 37-9, 31 KOs, Tomasz Adamek, 48-2, 29 KOs, and Dominick Guinn, 34-9-1, 23 KOs, in a heavyweight affair, and a cruiserweight clash between “Fast” Eddie Chambers, 36-3, 18 KOs, and Thabiso Mchunu, 12-1, 9 KOs*. However, the preliminary schedule the begins the evening, looks just as good.

Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov, 14-1, 10 KOs, returns from his 10-round draw against Malik Scott, then 35-0, 12 KOs, to face Byron Polley, 25-15-1, 11 KOs, in a heavyweight 8-rounder that tops the undercard. Glazkov, of Ukraine, is one of the rising young stars of the division, and must topple his opponent from Michigan to restart his winning streak and regain the momentum he was building before the draw.

Philadelphia lightweight Karl “Dynamite” Dargan, 13-0, 7 KOs, looks to extend his undefeated run in a 6-round bout against Staten Island’s Michael Brooks. However, Brooks, an undefeated southpaw, 10-0, 2 KOs, and will fight hard to keep his own streak intact.

Undefeated Tony Harrison, of Detroit, 13-0, 10 KOs, takes on Camden, NJ’s Alex Sanchez, 2-2, 2 KOs, in a junior middleweight 6-rounder. Harrison, an Emanuel Steward protege, not only has more experience that his opponent, he has boxing in his bloodline. Tony’s grandfather was Henry Hank, one of the best contenders of the 1950s and 1960s. However, Sanchez is a tough fighter who has scored knockouts in each of his two victories, and will definitely come to fight. As they say, someone’s O must go.

Fighting for the fifth time this year and the third time at Mohegan Sun, New Haven welterweight Jimmy Williams, 4-0, 2 KOs, faces his toughest test to date when he battles Philadelphia’s Greg Jackson, 3-0, 1 KO, in a four-round bout. The always-busy Williams is coming off July 5th unanimous-decision win over Saul Almeida, 0-3. In his last appearance at Mohegan, Williams stopped Marques Jackson, 2-10, at the end of the third round of their scheduled four-round bout.

Looking to rebound from a knockout loss to Jason Sosa, 9-1-3, in January, Hartford’s Joseph “Chip” Perez, 10-2, 3 KOs, returns to Mohegan to face Ashbury Park, N.J., super featherweight Chris Green, 4-3-1, 1 KO, in a six-round bout. Green, a 5-foot-7 southpaw, looks to revive his career in his first fight since April of 2011, when he lost a six-round decision to Osnel Charles, 9-6.

New Haven welterweight Edwin Soto, 9-0-2, 4 KOs, ends a 14-month layoff in a another six-round bout. Soto last fought in June of 2012, knocking out previously-unbeaten Kevin Womack Jr. in the fourth round of their scheduled eight-round bout.

Middleweight Curtis “Showtime” Stevens, 24-3, 17 KOs, held a media conference call Thursday to discuss his upcoming 10-round main event against Mexican Saul Roman, 37-9, 31 KOs, on August 3rd. The NABF middleweight championship fight will be nationally televised by NBC Sports Network on the popular Fight Night boxing series.

The telecast begins at 10:30 PM ET, and in addition to Stevens-Roman, includes two other 10-round bouts, Eddie Chambers versus Thabiso Mchunu in a cruiserweight fight and Tomasz Adamek against Dominick Guinn in a heavyweight contest.

Curtis Stevens, trainer Andre Rozier, promoter and Main Events CEO Kathy Duva, and Main Events matchmaker Jolene Mizzone, all spoke and took questions from the press.

“We’re all very excited about this fight,” Kathy Duva said. “Curtis is fabulous because he will absolutely fight anyone at all. So our job as promoters is to build him to the point where when that title opportunity comes, he will be well compensated for it. So August 3rd is going to tell us a lot more. Every fight tells us more about how ready he is. And we have complete 100% confidence that he will get there. But the obstacle right now is Saul Roman. If he doesn’t get past him, all that goes away.”

Jolene Mizzone added, “We have to mold Curtis at 160 pounds to be ready for the Golovkins of the world, the Chavezes, the Quillins, the Geales, all the champions. Roman is a guy who’s going to come straight forward throwing punches, like Golovkin. I’m not comparing the two, but he’s the type of guy that Curtis needs to be able to handle. He needs to be able to handle the pressure. So before he fights a championship fight, he needs to get all that (experience) under his belt. Roman is a guy who has power. Anything could happen. He’s a guy who is going to come straight forward. He’s a guy who had eight weeks of training. He’s a guy who has nothing to lose, and everything to gain. So all of that went into picking him for as an opponent for Curtis.”

“My theory on boxing, especially professional boxing, is there is no overtime in this game,” trainer Andre Rozier said. “The least amount of time spent in the ring extends your longevity. If you can get in and get out, it makes it a little bit better than having a 10-round war. So I prefer for him to get in, do what he has to do, score a knockout and get out as soon as possible. From what I’ve viewed from some of Roman’s fights, he’s a straight forward, come at you type of fighter, and that should play right into Curtis’ hands. He’s going to come right to him. And if it all works out the way it’s supposed to, we should see another Ayala-type performance.”

” I train for the knockout,” Curtis Stevens said. “But if the knockout don’t come, it don’t come. It doesn’t really matter, as long as I get the win. In my eyes, it really shouldn’t take that long. I watched a couple tapes on him (Roman). If he gets hit good, he goes down. But somehow he gets back up and fights. He’s a tough Mexican. But he’s never fought anyone with the power that I have. The way I see it, if I hit him, he’ll go down and not get back up. But if he does get up, I’m a finisher. So it’s over.”

And when asked about his future beyond the Roman fight, Stevens said, “I’m ready right now. If it was up to me, I’d fight a champion right now. But the question is, do they want to give me a shot? I’m high risk. Nobody wants to get in there and get hit by me. If it was up to me, I’d fight Gennady Golovkin because he’s the most feared middleweight. I’m calling him out. People are scared to fight him; I’m asking to fight him. But I just have to wait my turn. I’m anxious to get it, but I have to wait. They are the champions, so I have to hope they will give me my shot.”

The NABF middleweight title bout is part of a boxing triple header that includes two more 10-rounders, Eddie Chambers vs. Thabiso Mchunu and Tomasz Adamek vs. Dominick Guinn. Roman will enter the ring as the underdog against the streaking Stevens. However, the wily veteran from Mexico is prepared to introduce his lauded opponent to the toughness that boxers from his country are known for. Roman will be the first Mexican Stevens has ever fought, and the Wild Beast is betting it will be a rude awakening for the Brooklyn boxer.

Fight Night alumni, Gabriel Rosado knows Roman first-hand. The two fought their own 10-rounder three years ago in Atlantic City. Rosado won the bloody war on points, and remembers Roman well.

“He is a game fighter,” Rosado said of Roman. “He also has a long reach and a really good jab.”

Roman will do his best to utilize the height and reach advantages he holds over Stevens, but this fight may become a war of attrition, waged in the trenches and along the ropes. When the fight gets tough, Roman will not only rely on his heart and the punching power that has claimed 31 victims.

He also plans to show Curtis Stevens something he’s never seen before – what it means to be a Mexican fighter.

Cruiserweight “Fast” Eddie Chambers, 36-3, 18 KOs, held a media conference call Wednesday to discuss his highly anticipated move from heavyweight down to the 200-pound division, as well as his upcoming fight against South African Thabiso Mchunu, 13-1, 10 KOs, on August 3rd. The 10-round bout will be nationally televised by NBC Sports Network on the popular Fight Night boxing series.

The telecast begins at 10:30 PM, and in addition to Chambers-Mchunu, includes two other 10-round bouts, Curtis Stevens vs. Saul Roman in a middleweight fight and Tomasz Adamek against Dominick Guinn in a heavyweight contest.

Eddie Chambers, trainer James Bashir, promoter and Main Events CEO Kathy Duva, and Main Events matchmaker Jolene Mizzone, all spoke and took questions from the press.

” I’ve been thinking about it for a long time,” said Eddie Chambers about his move down to cruiserweight. “I always thought that if I could fight guys my own size, I’d have the opportunities, and the upper hand.”

“At cruiserweight, I feel as comfortable as I did at heavyweight,” Chambers continued. “My last fight with Tomasz Adamek, I was (only) at 202. So the transition should be seamless. It shouldn’t be a problem. ”

“As far as the experience I had at heavyweight, obviously that will serve me well,” Chambers said. “However, when you move down a weight class the guys tend to be a little more elusive and a little more coordinated. No one is going to have a speed advantage over me, but they are slightly faster (than heavyweights). So I have to prepare to be faster as well.”

“Our game plan was to bring Eddie to cruiserweight to see if he could dominate the division, because we all think he can,” said Kathy Duva. “So the goal is to get that title. But we are focused on this fight. BoxRec has rated this fight five stars! For a fight at this level to get five stars tells you that there’s something going on here. I think it’s going to be the sleeper hit of the evening. The Thabiso Mchunu team asked for this fight, and when that happens, you know you’re going to have yourself a really nice contest. It’s wonderful seeing this guy stepping up and taking a challenge like Eddie Chambers.”

I’d been in touch with Mchunu’s promoter (Damian Michaels) for about a year, and he was asking if I could work with his guy,” said Jolene Mizzone. “I told him I had Eddie Chambers, but thought that he would never want him. But it literally took no time for him to go talk to his fighter and come back and say they’d take him (Chambers)in a second. By the next day, I had their answer.”

“We’ll be prepared,” said trainer James Bashir. “This fight is probably one where there’s going to be an aggressive guy (Mchunu) against a smooth boxer (Chambers). But we will be prepared to face off against any opposition that they might bring. Most of his fights have been in South Africa, and he hasn’t faced the kind of versatility that he’ll be facing with Eddie Chambers.”

“Being with Bashir and learning from Bashir, who’s been in world championship-level camps his whole life and career as a trainer, helps me adopt that championship level attitude,” said Chambers. “So now I’m preparing to be a champion.”

UNCASVILLE, CT – Ten years ago, Arkansas heavyweight Dominick Guinn sprung onto the boxing scene by blasting the highly regarded Michael Grant with his potent left hook, stopping him in round seven after four knockdowns. The sensational victory was part of the 24-bout winning streak that started Guinn’s career and made him a suddenly hot prospect among the big men.

At the time, heavyweight was a crowded division full of hungry fighters, and Guinn never quite made it to the top of his class. But he never stopped believing in his talents. He had good size, solid boxing skills and that crushing power that earned him the nickname “The Southern Disaster”. Guinn kept fighting, and remained in the gym, waiting for his chance to breakthrough once again.

So when Guinn received the surprise call to fight Tomasz Adamek, 48-2, 29 KOs, on the next edition of NBC Sports Network’s live boxing series, Fight Night, it felt like destiny to the self-described gym rat.

Originally Adamek was scheduled to face Tony Grano on August 3rd. However a back injury forced Grano to pull out of the bout, opening the door for Guinn to stage another return to significant heavyweight action. The Houston-based heavyweight will again try to take the division by storm with another surprise win.

The 10-rounder between Guinn and Adamek is one third of the big “Three to See” triple header at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT. PHILADELPHIA – Inside the James Shuler Memorial Boxing Gym the temperature climbed steadily towards 100 degrees today as Philadelphian cruiserweight, “Fast” Eddie Chambers welcomed the media to his boxing workout.

Chambers, 36-3, 18 KO’s, is preparing for his upcoming NBC Sports Network Fight Night battle against South Africa’s Thabiso Mchunu, 12-1,9 KO’s. The bout will be part of a telecast that will begin at 10:30 PM EDT on Saturday, August 3rd and also features Curtis Stevens vs. Saul Roman in a 10-round NABF middleweight title main event.

Chambers’ Trainer, James Bashir worked the pads with Chambers and then oversaw the heavy-bag workout. Fellow Philadelphia favorite, Jesse Hart stepped into the ring to spar several rounds with Chambers, as Steve “USS” Cunningham offered encouragement from ringside.

Here’s what Chambers had to say:

Regarding his first official fight at cruiserweight. “It’s not so difficult to make 200. I can eat what I want. I’m not saying I’m gonna eat cheese steaks and all the stuff like that because I am staying away from the fatty foods. I’m trying to stay slim and trying to look the part as well as fight the part.”

Regarding fighting southpaw, Mchunu: “Anytime you fight a southpaw, when most of your career has been against orthodox fighters, it could become a little bit tricky. I’ve been indoctrinated into this (southpaw) game. I had a guy when I was 14 or 15 who was a southpaw, and I basically sparred with him almost every single day, at least 5-6 times a week and at that time I was doing it twice a day. And he was a very tricky southpaw, tall, about 6’4″ and fast. It was such a tough thing for me to figure out, but working with him taught me how to fight southpaws. I was basically doing that for years, maybe 4 or 5 years, I was sparring with him nearly every single day. It showed me the way.”

Mchunu is highly ranked but very unknown, what are your thoughts on him: “He’s a bit shorter, he’s a bit difficult, in some of the tapes I’ve seen in some of the tapes I’ve seen of him, but it’s not something that’s too tough for me to handle.”

How does your arm feel after the injury in the Adamek fight: “It feels great now. I’ve been able to do the same thing with my left arm as I’ve been able to do with my right. I’m pretty much ready to go right now.”

Regarding sparring with Jesse Hart: “Yeah, we’ve got that shining star prospect, Jesse Hart coming in here, former Olympian. I always want to get the young studs, the ones that got something to prove and the ones are trying to make it to the next level because when you bring those kind of guys in they make you raise your level. I always think, ‘look at this little young guy, this little youngster, he thinks he’s going to just beat me down.’ That’s just not going to happen, you know what I mean? So that makes you work harder and you prepare better.

UNCASVILLE, CT – Heavyweight Tony Grano, 20-3-1, 16 KOs, has been trying to punch his way through the heavyweight division since 2005, but the boxer has yet to secure the signature win needed to truly make his mark. Grano has battled and beaten a number of solid heavyweights and took home a few minor belts, but nothing that Grano has accomplished thus far has led to the breakthrough he so desires.

Grano could take a big step toward his goal on August 3rd when he encounters the biggest challenge of his career, former two-division world champion Tomasz Adamek, 48-2, 29 KOs. The 10-round fight is part of the triple header to be nationally televised by NBC Sports Network as part of their Fight Night boxing series.
