LAS VEGAS (May 25, 2022) – Past World Boxing Organization (WBO) Global Super Featherweight title challenger Diego “Cuchis” Andrade (14-6-2, 1 KO) has replaced injured Irving “Poderoso” Castillo (12-2, 8 KOs) in the June 2nd championship final of the inaugural “WCBS 4-Man Lightweight Tournament”, against hot prospect and hometown hero Luis “Koreano” Torres (15-0, 10 KOs), at Palenque de la Expo in Obregón, Sonora, Mexico.

Castillo reportedly suffered a torn bicep during training camp.

The inaugural “WCBS 4-Man Lightweight Tournament,” presented by Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions (RJJ Boxing), will headline the June 2nd installment of RJJ Boxing on UFC FIGHT PASS®. Andrade last fought this past November 10th, in which he won a 10-round decision over Jose Rodriguez Villareal. The consummate boxer, Andrade’s most notable victories to date were decisions against 29-1-2 Jorge “Pilon” Lara and 16-4-1 Alex Reyes.

The 20-year-old Torres has been the tournament favorite since it was announced. He has become a regular fighter on RJJ Boxing on UFC FIGHT PASS with this being his eighth appearance. A gifted all-around boxer, the lefthanded Torres is a former WBC Youth Silver Lightweight Champion, as well as a rising lightweight star.

The Torres vs. Andrade fight, if needed, will have an “overtime” round to declare a winner in the event of a draw upon the conclusion of the scheduled distance. The World Boxing Council (WBC) sanctions the tournament, and the eventual victor will not only be crowned the new WBC Latino Lightweight Champion but also receive a WBC world rating.

There are four other lightweight matches scheduled on this stacked card.

In the co-featured event, Bryan “Zam” Zamarripa (10-1, 3 KOs) takes on his unbeaten countryman, Yair Marmoleto Rojas (7-0-2, 5 KOs), in a schedule 8-round bout.

Promising 19-year-old prospect Marco Cota Moreno (6-0, 4 KOs) returns to RJJ Boxing at UFC FIGHT PASS in a 6-round match against Juna Leonel “LA Vijola” Ortega Resendez (4-2-1, 2 KOs). Moreno was a decorated amateur boxer who had a 146-4 record, highlighted by five-Sonora State championship title-winning performances.

In a 4-rounder, Pedro Peninuri Borgaro (2-0, 1 KO) faces Hector Avila Lozano (1-0, 1 KO) in the UFC FIGHT PASS opener.

Torres knocked out Rodolfo “Rudy” Flores (14-6, 6 KOs) in round four this past February at the same venue, after dropping him in the second and third rounds.

“It was a tough fight versus Flores, “the 20-year-old Torres said. “I knew I had to knock him out, so I just focused on the knockout and put technique aside. I wanted to give my fans a knockout and I got it.

“My upcoming fight will be different, more strategic. We need more boxing resources because he is a tall fighter who likes to control his distance, throwing long punches and side stepping very well. It will be a very difficult fight than the one I had with Flores.”

Torres vs. Castillo will be contested in a 10-round match and, if needed, an “overtime” round will be held to declare a winner in the event of a draw upon the conclusion of the scheduled distance. In the main event, Torres knocked out Rodolfo “Rudy” Flores (14-6, 6 KOs) in round four, after dropping him in the second and third rounds. The pre-tournament favorite, 20-year-old Torres headlined the card in his hometown of Obregon.

In the co-featured event, decorated United States amateur Quinton Randall (8-0-1, 2 KOs) and Ivan “Ivan “Zurdo” Alvarez (31-13-2, 21 KOs) fought for the vacant WBC USNBC Silver Welterweight Championship. An unintentional headbutt caused a severe cut over Alvarez’ right end, leading to a second-round technical draw.

Castillo took an 8-round majority decision over Isai “Gaga” Hernandez (11-3-1, 7 KOs) to set-up his showdown against Torres in the “WCBS Lightweight Tournament” championship final.

In two other lightweight fights on UFC FIGHT PASS, Venezuelan Fradimil Macayo (16-1, 13 KOs) went the distance for only the third time in his career, winning an 8-round unanimous decision versus previously unbeaten Armando Ramirez Almanza (5-1-1, 2 KOs), of Mexico; undefeated 19-year-old prospect Jorge “Jorgito” Cota (7-0, 5 KOs) – the youngest in the famed Mexican fightin’ Montiel family – stopped his Guatemalan opponent Rene “Kampana” de Leon Mazariegos (7-4, 4 KOs) in the third round.

The Hernandez-Castillo semifinals winner will advance to the championship final this spring against the other semifinalist victor between pre-tournament favorite Luis “Koreano” Torres (14-0, 9 KOs) and Rodolfo “Rudy” Flores (14-5, 6 KOs) in an 8-rounder.

“Fighting in this tournament is good for me and my boxing career,” Hernandez said. “I’m very happy. I know he (Castillo) is in very good shape for every fight. He’s a good boxer, extremely tall for a lightweight. It’s a very tough fight for me.

“I’m a very strong brawler. I think it’s going to be a very tough fight. He will try to use his height and reach to keep his distance, but it’s my job to get inside and make him uncomfortable. We have been working so hard for this opportunity. I will do whatever it takes to win this fight.”

Castillo plans to take advantage of competing in this tournament, saying: “It’s a great opportunity for me to take part in this tournament. I’m very excited and look forward to making it to the championship and winning the WBC Latino title.

“I have seen him (Hernandez) fight a couple of times. Hernandez can handle a lot of punches and he likes to pressure his opponent every round. He’s a very tough fighter. I am very technical. I rarely waste any punches in there. It’s going to be a great fight with a lot of action. I have the qualities to win this fight impressively and that’s exactly what I intend to do.”

The WCBS’ “4-Man lightweight Tournament,” created by CEO Terry Hollan and matchmaker Guy Taylor, is sanctioned by the World Boxing Council (WBC). The winner will be crowned the WBC Latino Lightweight Champion, as well as positioned in the WBC’s top 15 ratings.

Semifinal’s action will be contested in 8-round bouts, 10 rounds for the championship final. The WCBS will also feature one “overtime” round, if needed, to declare a winner in the event of a draw upon the conclusion of the scheduled distance.

WCBS will also be offering a “Fight of the Night” and “Knockout” bonuses to each contestant through the duration of its “4-Man Lightweight Tournament.”

A non-tournament, title fight between decorated amateur boxer and undefeated professional, Quinton Randall (8-0, 2 KOs), and Ivan “Zurdo” Alvarez (31-13-1, 21 KOs) will also be streamed live UFC FIGHT PASS® opener.

Randall, fighting out of Houston, was a 2016 USA Nationals Championships gold medalist, as well as runner-up at the 2017 USA National Championships and Pan-American Games. Canelo Alvarez looked befuddled at times, but he turned it on in round eight, and stopped Billy Joe Saunders after that frame to retain the WBA/WBC and win the WBO Super Middleweight title from Billy Joe Saunders in front of an American indoor record of 73, 126 fans at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Alvarez came out landing thudding power shots against the slick jabbing Saunders. Saunders found a rhythm in the middle frames as he was able to get his jab and uppercuts working he began to give the Mexican icon problems.

With the fight seemingly close, Alvarez stepped on the gas in round eight, as he got back to landing hard punches, which included a uppercut that caused the right eye to close. After the round, Saunders was distressed by the eye and his corner pulled the plug on the fight.

Alvarez, 167.4 lbs of Guasalajara, Mexico now owns three of the four recognized titles and will to become undisputed with a proposed Fall showdown with Caleb Plant. Alvarez is now 56-1-2 with 38 knockouts. Saunders, 167.8 lbs of Hatfield, UK is 30-1.

Soto stops Takayama; Retains Light Flyweight title

Elwin Soto made the third defense of the WBO Light Flyweight title with a controversial ninth-round stoppage of former world champion Katsunari Takayama.

Soto dominated by landing the harder punches; Takayama kept himself in the bout by landing some nice flurries throughout.

In round nine, Soto was landing some good power shots, but Takayama was throwing back, but for some reason, referee Laurence Cole stepped in and stopped the bout with both guys in mid-flurry at 2:44.

Soto, 107.8 lbs of Baja California, MEX is 19-1 with 13 knockouts. Takayama, 107.6 lbs of Osake, JAP is 32-9.

Cissokho survives knockdown; Decisions Conway

Souleymane Cissokho won a 10-round split decision over Kieron Conway in a super welterweight fight.

In round four, Conway began leaking blood from his nose.

In round nine, Conway dropped Cissokho with hard uppercut to the face.

Cissokho landed 115 of 539 punches; Conway was 84 of 403.

Cissokho won by scores of 96-93 and 95-94 while Conway somehow got a card 97-92.

Cissokho, 153.6 lbs of Bagnolet, FRA is now 13-0. Conway, 154 lbs of Northampton, UK is 16-2.

Sanchez wins Technical Decision over Aguilera

Frank Sanchez remained undefeated with a technical unanimous decision over Nagy Aguilera when Aguilera could not continue after getting hit behind the head in the 6th round of their 10-round heavyweight bout.

Sanchez dominated the fight, and in round six, Sanchez landed a shot that scraped the back of Aguilera’s head that sent him down. He could not continue and the fight went to the judges scorecards, which all read 60-54 in favor of Sanchez.

Sanchez landed 81 of 240 punches; Aguilera was 32 of 181.

Sanchez, 237 lbs of Guantanamo, CUB is 18-0. Aguilera, 238.2 lbs of Houston, TX is 21-11.

Marc Castro remained undefeated with a fourth round stoppage over Irving Castillo in a lightweight bout.

In round one, Castillo began to bleed from the nose. In round four, Castro dropped Castillo, and the fight was stopped at 2:04.

Castro, 132 1/4 lbs is 3-0 with three knockouts. Castillo is 9-2.

Keyshawn Davis remained perfect with a six-round unanimous decision over Jose Antonio Meza in a junior welterweight bout.

Davis, 138 lbs of Norfolk, VA won by scores of 60-54 on all cards and is now 3-0. Meza, 138 lbs of Gomez Palico, MEX is 6-5.

Christian Gomez Duran stopped Xavier Wilson in round two of their scheduled eight-round welterweight bout.

Duran dropped Wilson with a hard over rand fight and the fight was stopped.

Duran, 147 lbs of Guadalajara, MEX is 20-2-1 with 18 knockouts. Wilson, 147.8 lbs of San Antonio, TX is 11-3-1.

Kelvin Davis survived a last minute knockdown, but still hung on to win a four-round unanimous decision over Jan Marsalek in a welterweight bout.

Davis was breezing along until he ate a overhand right that sent him to the canvas. Davis was hurt, but time ran out for Marsalek.

Davis, 143.8 lbs of Norfolk, VA won by scores of 38-37 on all cards, and is now 2-0. Marsalek, 144.4 lbs of Czech Reoublic is 8-3.
