Sunny Edwards defended his IBF Flyweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Felix Alvarado in Sheffield, England.

Edwards, 111.4 lbs of Croydon, ENG won by scores of 116-112 and 115-113 twice and is now 19-0. Alvarado, 111.2 lbs of Managua, NIC is 38-3.

Shabaz Masoud stopped Jack Bateson in the final round of their 12-rond super bantamweight bout.

In round 12, Masoud dropped Bateson with a short left. With Bateson hurt, Masoud landed a big flurry of about 20 unanswered punches in the corner, and the bout was stopped at

Masoud, 121.7 lbs of Sloan, ENG is 11-0 with four knockouts. Bateson, 120.7 lbs of Leeds, ENG is 17-1.

Olympic Gold Medal winner Herbert Conceicao won a six-round decision over Gideon Onyenani in a middleweight contest.

Conceicao, 163.1 lbs of Brazil won by a 60-54 score and is now 3-0. Onyenani, 162.6 lbs of Kent. ENG is 4-2.

Marcel Braithwaite won a 12-round split decision over Thomas Essomba in a super flyweight bout.

Braithwaite, 115.6 lbs is now 14-3. Essombam 114.5 lbs is 11-8-1.

Alin Florin Cioceri won an eight-round decision over Levi Kinsionia in a lightweight bout.

Cioceri, 136.5 lbs of Romania won by a 77-76 score and is now 17-3-1. Kinsionia, 136.7 lbs of Sheffield, ENG is 9-3.

Ishmael Davis stopped Dustin Annmann in round five of their eight-round super welterweight bout.

Davis landed a huge flurry on the ropes in round five. That onslaught took Ammann to the corner until the fight was stopped at 2:05.

Davis, 159.6 of Leeds, ENG is 10-0 with four knockouts. Ammann, 157.7 lbs of Germany is 7-8.

Nicolie Campbell won a six-round decision over Frane Radnic in a super middleweight bout.

Campbell, 169.2 lbs of England won by a 60-54 score and is now 10-1. Radnic, 169.1 lbs of Croatia is 11-35.

SHEFFIELD, NOVEMBER  9 – Jack Bateson and Shabaz Masoud have fired warning shots at each other ahead of their barnstorming battle of top British prospects. Bateson and Masoud clash in a sizzling super bantamweight showdown at Probellum Sheffield on Friday night – and both men have rubbished big claims from their rival. Leeds hero Bateson has poured scorn on Masoud being the betting favourite and insists ‘Maverick’ has heaped pressure on himself with his pre-fight confidence. Stoke’s Masoud is certain of “comfortably” beating Bateson and says he sees plenty of weaknesses in the former medal-winning Great Britain amateur star. LEEDS, JUNE 18 – Jack Bateson hopes to gate-crash the world rankings after defeating Diego Alberto Ruiz in Leeds.

The new Probellum signing picked up the vacant WBA Super Bantamweight Intercontinental title with a unanimous points win after 10 rounds at Elland Road.

Bateson was awarded the victory – and potentially a spot in the WBA’s top 15 – with scores of 98-93, 98-92 and 97-93, in front of his home fans.

Ruiz came on strong in the final two rounds but Bateson, who had established a healthy lead on the scorecards, weathered the storm to secure the most important win of his career to date.

Bateson is part of an exciting super bantamweight division and fellow Probellum fighters, Lee McGregor, Shabaz Masoud and Carl Jammes Martin are all in the sanctioning body’s top 10.

Archie Sharp returned to the ring with a clear points victory over Alex Rat.

‘Sharpshooter’ had not fought since October but was a comfortable winner after 10 rounds, taking the contest with scores of 98-93, 99-91 and 98-92.

Sharp, now 22-0, is the WBO’s No1 contender in the super featherweight division and hopes to secure a shot at champion Shakur Stevenson.

Ohara Davies warmed up for a potential WBA world title eliminator by stopped Abdessamad Nechched in Leeds.

‘Two Tanks’ forced his opponent to the canvas in round seven and, again, in round eight and though Nechched beat the count after being floored for a second time, referee Howard Foster said he’d taken enough punishment.

Davies, who moves to 24-2 (17KOs), is now in line to fight Spain’s Sandor Martin, with the winner putting themselves in the frame to challenge for the WBA world super lightweight title.

LONDON, JUNE 15 – Jack Bateson wants to become a Leeds boxing legend just like world champion Josh Warrington after being announced as Probellum’s latest signing.
Bateson faces the biggest test of his professional career when, on Saturday night (June 18), he squares off against Diego Alberto Ruiz over 10 rounds for the vacant WBA Intercontinental Super Bantamweight title.

A win for the 27-year-old in front of his home fans at Elland Road, should catapult the former Great Britain amateur firmly into the world rankings and with the backing of Probellum, Bateson believes victory this weekend will mark the beginning of some “big nights” in Leeds – just like the ones created by city hero Warrington.

“I am blessed to be from a city like Leeds,” Bateson said.

“Josh Warrington is a big pal of mine and we’ve all seen what he has achieved, and I know if I work hard and stay grounded then I can get to that point too.

“And it won’t be long before I’m filling out the First Direct Arena, like Josh does, but I need to get past Ruiz first.

Standing in Bateson’s way is Argentinean puncher Ruiz whose recent opponents include Probellum stars Lee McGregor and Shabaz Masoud, as well as Michael Conlan.

“I’ve seen Ruiz box a couple of times in the last 12-18 months and these are the sort of fights I want to be in,” Bateson buzzed.

“He’s a good fighter, as tough as they come, and Ruiz will be looking at me and thinking this isn’t anything he hasn’t seen before but, mark my words, he’s never been in the ring with anyone like me before!

“I won the English title last year and I am now ready to push on and a win on Saturday will, hopefully, get me a top 15 ranking with the WBA.”

Bateson, 16-0 as a pro, added: “Some of the guys who have won this WBA belt in the past, have gone on and won big things in the sport, including the world title.

“In the UK alone, the super bantamweight division is booming, there are a lot of big fights out there for me, and so I am excited about what is to come.”

Mauricio Lara and former world champion Josh Warrington fought to a technical draw after a clash of heads opened up a cut over Lara’s left eye after two rounds at Headlingley Rugby Stadium in Leeds, England.

The fight was just starting to open up when the headbutt occurred. The fight was a rematch of a contest that saw Lara knockout Warrington in February.

Lara, 125 1/2 lbs of Mexico City is now 23-2-1. Warrington of Leeds, ENG is 30-1-1.

Taylor Decisions Han; Retains Undisputed Lightweight Title

Katie Taylor retained the undisputed Lightweight world championship with a 10-round unanimous decision over Jennifer Han.

In round eight, Taylor dropped Han with a left hook. Replays showed that it could have been a slip. Han also started to swell under her right eye in the round.

Taylor landed 93 of 340 punches; Han was 66 of 338.

Taylor, 134 3/4 lbs of Bray, IRE won by scores of 100-89 on all cards, and is now 19-0. Han, 134 1/4 lbs of El Paso, TEX is now 18-4-1-1.

Benn Decisions Granados

Conor Benn remained undefeated with a 10-round unanimous decision in a welterweight bout.

Benn landed 152 of 460 punches; Granados was 99 of 429.

Benn, 146 1/2 lbs of Brentwood, ENG won by scores of and is now 19-0. Granados, 146 1/2 lbs of Chicago, IL is 21-9-3.

Hughes Decisions Straffon

Maxi Hughes pounded out a 12-round unanimous decision over Jovanni Straffon in a lightweight bout.

Hughes hurt Straffon on several occasions including almost having him out in round four.

Hughes, 134 1/4 lbs of Rossington, ENG won by scores of 120-107 twice and 119-109 and is now 24-5-2. Straffon, 134 1/4 lbs of Mexico City, MEX is 24-4-1.

Bridges Decisions Gangloff

Ebanie Bridges won an eight-round decision over Mailys Gangloff in a bantamweight fight.

Bridges, 118 lbs of New South wales, AUS fought through a welled right eye and injured right hand but still won by a 77-76 score and is now 7-1. Gangloff, 116 lbs of Aix-les-Bains, FRA is 5-3.

Hope Price remained undefeated with a 2nd round stoppage of Zahid Hussain in a scheduled 10-round super bantamweight fight.

Just as the bell rang to end round one, Price landed a perfect right hook that clipped the jaw and sent Hussain on his backside. Fortunately for Hussain, he got to his feet to end the round. In round two, it was a combination that put Hussain down for a 2nd time. Price finished the fight with a barrage of punches that forced a referee stoppage at 2:33.

Price, 121 3/4 lbs of Leeds, ENG is 6-0 with two knockouts. Hussain, 121 lbs of Leeds, ENG is 16-2.

Jack Bateson survived a knockdown to win a six-round decision over Felix Garcia in a super bantamweight bout.

In round three, Garcia dropped Bateson with a looping right hand to the chest. Bateson was about to steady himself and win the rest of the fight.

Bateson, 124 lbs of Leeds, ENG won by a 58-56 score and is now 14-0. Garica, 123 lbs of Juigalpa, NIC is now 7-3-1.

Brandon Stansfield won a four-round decision over MJ Hall in a super welterweight bout.

Stansfield, 149 1/2 lbs of Leeds, ENG won by a 40-36 score and is now 2-0. Hall, 148 1/2 lbs of Brierley Hill, ENG is 2-62-2.

In round one, Hall began to bleed from his nose.

Mali Wright made a successful pro debut with a stoppage of Antony Woolery after round two of their scheduled four-round light heavyweight bout.

Wright, 180 bs of Chapeltown, England is 1-0 with one knockout. Woolery, 181 3/4 lbs of Wolverhampton, England is 2-7.
