GABRIEL ROSADO MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTES

HOLLYWOOD, CA (October 26, 2021) – The people’s champion “King” Gabriel Rosado (26-13-1, 15 KOs) hosted a media workout ahead of his showdown against Jaime Munguia (37-0, 30 KOs) on November 13th at Anaheim’s Honda Center. Rosado was on hand to speak to the media about his upcoming fight in addition to showing off some of his training alongside Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach. Rosado is set to face Munguia in a 12-round all-out-war for the WBO Inter-Continental Middleweight World Championship, live exclusively on DAZN worldwide, excluding Mexico, starting at 6:00 p.m PT.

Below is what the fighter and his trainer had to say about the upcoming Mexico vs. Puerto Rico battle.

“KING’ GABRIEL ROSADO, MIDDLEWEIGHT CONTENDER

“Freddie has taught me to be disciplined, sticking to game plan, and everyday getting better and better.

“I define this fight as a historical fight, a legacy fight. This fight will go down in the history books, featuring two latino: a Mexican warrior and a Puerto Rican warrior. We are gonna clash and the fans will win.

“This fight means everything, this is the reason why I got with Freddie. It was to take it to the next level. I have always had the skill, have always had the ability, but I knew that for me to take it to that world class level I had to get with a trainer that knows what it takes to get there, guide me there, lead me there. Getting with Freddie is just bringing out the best of me.

“I feel like I am still 25, I feel great, I am blessed, I am healthy. In this fight he is the younger guy and I understand what it means to be the younger fighter. But I need to use my experience and my boxing ability to make him pay for his mistakes.

“You can teach a lot, but you can’t teach experience. I feel like I have fought the tougher fighters so I definitely have experience on my side. Like I said, I am healthy, I am strong. I am not fading. I am just getting better.

FREDDIE ROACH, HALL OF FAME TRAINER

“This fight is going to be fun. Erick Morales and I have known each other for a while. We are both doing well as trainers, so may the best man win.

“I think this is going to be a really good fight. You have two really good fighters in a real fight. This is what boxing is all about. I think we got lost a little bit with celebrity boxing but this is two real fighters going into a real fight. I love this.

“Gabriel is very clever and he’s a very good boxer, but we’re fighting a veteran ourselves and a very good puncher so we have to be very careful. Both fighters have a lot of heart and that makes this fight interesting, it’s gonna be a ‘Fight of the Year’ type of fight.

“I know I have to worry about Munguia’s punching power and his strength so I have to work on staying away from those situations and countering when Munguia makes mistakes. This is going to be a very psychological fight and I think the the person who’s mentally ready for this fight is going to win this fight.

“In his last fight, Gabriel took a knee and then he looked at me, and I knew when he looked over at me, I knew everything was okay. I thought at that moment, ‘your opponent is coming to finish this now because he’s a great puncher and he he knocks a lot of guys out’ and Gabriel just flipped the coin and finished him. It was a great win for us for sure

“The Mexico vs. Puerto Rico rivalries always produce great fights. The Puerto Ricans are are very good fans and the Mexicans are very good fans and it’s gonna be a great night. I can’t wait for this fight to happen.”

Below is what the fighters and attendees had to say to Golden Boy Fight Night’s Beto Duran.

JOE MARKOWSKI, DAZN EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT

“Everyone at DAZN is very excited about the main event. It’s going to be an all-out war between two of the toughest men in the sport. At only 24 years of age, Jaime has rapidly risen through the ranks and defeated some of the best on his way to the top of the division. You’ve only got to look at his incredible knockout to win ratio at 81% and the resume of opponents that he’s fought, that he’s a world championship level fighter and one that we are very confident will be in the pound for pound conversation very soon.

“His opponent in Gabriel Rosado is as tough as they come. There is no doubting it. We’ve watched him on DAZN several times what a fierce competitor he is and how willing he is to step into the ring against any man in the sport, so we’re very excited to have him back on DAZN, and I’m sure he’s raring to go too. All in all, this is a fight you don’t want to miss. All of the action from fight week, as ever, all the way through to fight night itself, will be carried live and exclusive on DAZN, worldwide on DAZN, as part of what’s shaped up to be a blockbuster boxing schedule for us as we close out the year. We’ll thank Oscar, and we’ll thank the Golden Boy team for their partnership and their support and wish both camps the best of luck in their preparations. We look forward to seeing all of you come November 13.”

KIM BEDIER, SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT & GENERAL MANAGER OF OCV!BE

“For over 28 years, Honda Center has hosted world-class sporting events and great fights on and off the ice, and that legacy continues as we welcome back Golden Boy Promotions to Anaheim. On November 13th rising superstar Jaime Munguía takes on Gabriel Rosado live in this highly anticipated match. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com, and we will see you on fight night here at Honda Center.”

ERIC GOMEZ, PRESIDENT, GOLDEN BOY

“Rosado won, he won his lottery ticket in his last fight, you know when he knocked out Bek [Bektemir Melikuzie] Bek “The Bully. He had such a great knockout that, you know, everybody, the fans, everybody was clamoring for this fight.

“It’s the type of fight that Munguía needs to establish himself in that division. You know, in many ways, Rosado’s been around, and he’s got great experience. He’s kind of like the keeper at the gate in the middleweight and super middleweight divisions. This is a great example of records not really meaning anything because he’s always dangerous. If Munguía can get past him, this will establish him as one of the top players in the division.

“The sky’s the limit, the sky’s the limit [for Munguia], but he needs these types of fights so that he can establish himself so that he can prove that he belongs. Yeah, he won the [world] title when he was very young, and he fought a smaller guy in Saddam Ali. We’ve been bringing him along, and he moved up to 160. These are the type of fights he needs so that he can establish himself in the division.

“It’s always good. It’s always good to announce fights and get positive feedback. It’s not always the case. We always try to please the fans. I mean, that’s first and foremost. You want to please the fans and make the fights that they want. You got to kind of keep your ear to the ground and listen to the chatter and what they’re talking about. A lot of fans were talking about this fight after Rosado’s last win, they wanted this fight, and we heard them loud and clear. I’m just happy we were able to get it done. It’s going to be a great fight.

“[Gabriel Rosado] is as dangerous as they come. I mean, you know we’ve been working with him for many, many years, it seems like over 10 years. I just think back to all the fights where he was supposed to be an opponent, and he came out either with a draw or a win. He’s just that type of guy. The great thing about Gabe Rosado now, when you talk to him versus when we first started working with him over 10 years ago, is that he’s so much more mature. He takes everything a little more professional. His discipline’s better, his motivations are better. He’s got a family now, so that always seems to settle a fighter down. He’s always in shape. He’s always working out. Those are the guys that are dangerous. The guys that are always in the gym. The guys that are always ready to fight. Those are the most dangerous guys.

“You can see the progression in [Munguia]. He’s learning from one of the best, one of the masters, one of the greatest fighters out of Mexico in Érik Morales. He’s a multi-division champion, multi-champion. Who fought all the top fighters in the world. That experience, you can’t buy that experience. To have someone like that in your corner, the psyche that he has, the mindset that he has, it’s been great for [Munguia]. Munguia is still very, very young but having a guy like Érik Morales with him is a huge plus.

“Whenever you have Mexico versus Puerto Rico, whether it’s Mexican-American, whether it’s Mexican, whether it’s Puerto Rican America, you name it. It’s always going to be a fun fight. It’s always going to be a great fight. The thing about the Mexican fight fans is that they’re very educated when it comes to boxing, and they have a great deal of respect for the Puerto Ricans. Yes, they want to beat them, you want your guy to win, but they also know and understand the rich history of Puerto Rico. There’s going to be a lot of Gabe Rosado supporters there, too, believe it or not. Here in the L.A. area, he has won over the fans. They really, truly do respect him because he’s a warrior because he gives it his all because he’s in there to either try to knock you out or he will get knocked out. They love that whenever you have a fighter that’s that disciplined, that dedicated to his craft, that you can’t help but root for him. Yes, Jaime is going to be the favorite. Jaime is going to have the backyard fans that are going to be around for him, but don’t be fooled; Rosado’s going to have a lot of supporters as well. Rosado trains in Hollywood with Freddie Roach at Wild Card.

‘KING’ GABRIEL ROSADO, MIDDLEWEIGHT CONTENDER

“Well, I think the last couple fights since I actually linked up with Freddie Roach, I think it shows. This is an improved Gabe Rosado. I have experience; I’m putting in the work. Yes, my record is deceiving. I wasn’t the guy with the machine behind me, with the big promoters, big management behind me, so a lot of times, I went into fights where the other guy was the favorite. And there have been fights that should have gone my way, where I got the shit-end of the stick. And it showed in the Danny Jacobs fight. I just saw that fight, and I was like, ‘wow, clearly I out-boxed him.’ But you know, that’s just the beauty of it, that the fans get to see it, and the fans at the end of the day can’t be fooled. I made a statement in my last fight, which I think will be ‘Knock Out of The Year.’ So we’re excited about this Munguia fight.

“I’m excited, but I am not going to give up the game plan, obviously. I want to do a little bit of everything. I’m going to bang, I’m gonna move, I’m gonna box, and I’m going in to win. I’m not just going to win on the scorecards; I want to get a knockout. I want to keep that momentum going because I think it’s important. These are the kinds of fights where it has to live up to the expectations of the fans. So you have to be a hundred percent, and you gotta be willing to be all in, in the ring. It will go down into the history books. This is one of the fights that they’ll be talking about 20 to 30 years from now.

“Bek was a two-time Olympian, I believe, 290 knockouts in the amateurs and was crushing his opponents in the pros. He was a big, strong, powerful guy, so that [win for me] was a statement. Munguia could have gone the easier route. He could have gone with his mandatory, so you have to respect the guy that says, ‘no, I want Rosado.’ He is willing to give the fans what they want, and that’s what makes this fight special, that t’s a fight that the fans asked for. In boxing nowadays, with the politics, it’s hard to give the fans what they want. This right here is just like an early Christmas gift for the fans. It’s gonna be lit.”

JAIME MUNGUIA, WBO INTERCONTINENTAL MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION

“Well, I think he is a good challenge for me. I have always seen him fight great fighters, and so we were really interested when the fight was offered. I think this will be a great fight for all fight fans and a great fight for me.

“Our strategy right now is to focus on working on my general boxing skills. Making sure I keep my distance, keeping my hands up. We noticed that Rosado had an excellent right punch in his last fight, so we want to prepare to prevent him from giving him that advantage. We have been working a lot on my speed and making sure I can move.

“Yes, I won a world title at 24. But also, all these years I have gained a lot of experience. I feel like my boxing has improved, and we are ready for bigger challenges. After Rosado, there has been a lot of talk about a fight with DOMANCHENKO, Jacobs, and Golovkin.

“This is going to be a fun night, a night full of punches. It will be a war. Everyone knows that Mexico vs. Puerto Rico are always great fights. I honestly see a very motivated Gabe Rosado. He is strong and willing to give a good fight. I can assure you that we will leave everything in the ring and bring something great on fight night.”

LIVE FIGHTS: GOLDEN BOY (MUNGUIA – SZEREMETA) UNDERCARD

Munguia stops Szeremeta After six

Jaime Munguia remained undefeated by stopping former world title challenger Kamil Szeremeta after round six of their 12-round middleweight fight at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas.

Munguia dominated the fight and started to beat up Szeremeta more and more with each round until Szeremeta pulled the plug on the fight following the sixth round.

Munguia, 159.6 lbs of Tijuana, MEX is 37-0 with 30 knockouts. Szeremeta, 159.8 lbs of Bialyatok, POL is 21-2.

“I was surprised at his ability to take punishment,” said Jaime Munguia. “He has all my respect because he could take a lot of punishment. I was really trying to work my offense in this fight and try different things. Then I began to pressure him and change the distance at which I fought. Hopefully, I can fight for a world title at the end of this year. If not, I would like to fight Gabriel Rosado.”

Rosado Shocks Melikuziev in Three

Former world title challenger Gabriel Rosado stunned undefeated super prospect Bektemir Melikuziev in round three of a scheduled 12-round super middleweight bout.

In round one, Melikuziev landed a body shot that backed Rosado up and eventually to a knee. In round three, Rosado landed a perfect counter right to the jaw that sent Melikuziev face-first on the canvas, and the fight was stopped at 1:21.

Rosado, 168 lbs of Philadelphia, PA is 26-13-1 with 15 knockouts, Melikuziev, 168 lbs of Indio, CA is 7-1.

“I knew I would have to dig deep,” said Gabriel Rosado. “I had more experience than he, but he’s very strong and throws heavy shots. I was trying to time him, but he caught me with the body shot. He didn’t drop me, but I took a knee to recover. And then I got the win.”

We have a lot of respect and admiration towards him, so we have to make sure we do things correctly so that we get a big fight next.”

KAMIL SZEREMETA, Former World Title Challenger:
“This fight will be great. I’m happy to fight against such an amazing fighter. On Saturday, I will do my best to give you all a great show. I am very happy that I am fighting an undefeated boxer. It makes it more meaningful. I’m not worried about being in a place that will be full of Jamie Munguia’s supporters. I don’t even care. I’m used to this. I’m always fighting in other territories.”

ERIC GOMEZ, President of Golden Boy:
“We have a rich history here in El Paso. We’ve done many shows here, and many champions have fought here. Texas is a great state for boxing, but there’s also something special about El Paso. This will be a great show, and it’s stacked from top to bottom. We’re going to kick off the broadcast with Blair Cobbs, one of the top rising stars. He’s a very exciting fighter. We also have Marlen Esparza, who bounced back from her first loss and now fighting for a world title. The co-main event is also going to be great with Bektemir taking on Gabriel Rosado. And, of course, it will be topped off by the main event with Jaime Munguia. He’s Mexico’s next biggest star.”

BLAIR “THE FLAIR” COBBS TRAINING CAMP QUOTES

LOS ANGELES, CA (June 15, 2021) – Prince Ranch Boxing’s undefeated welterweight, Blair “The Flair” Cobbs (14-0-1, 9 KOs), battles Brad Solomon (29-3, 9 KOs) this Saturday, June 19, 2021, at the University of Texas at El Paso’s Don Haskins Center. The 10-round bout, presented by Golden Boy Promotions, will be the opening fight live on DAZN on the Jaime Munguia vs. Kamil Szeremeta card.

Cobbs, who is managed by Greg Hannley of Prince Ranch Boxing, gives his thoughts on his matchup with Solomon, training camp, and more, as he wraps up the final days of training camp from the Wild Card Boxing Gym in Los Angeles with new trainer Freddie Roach.

On his recent training camp:
“I’ll be well prepared going into this fight as I’ve put in the necessary work that is needed to compete at this level. Since I got with Freddie Roach, I’ve added some wrinkles to my game. All my sparring partners have been world class fighters so there is nothing that Solomon will bring to this fight that I haven’t already seen. My weight is good and I’ll be ready to throw down.”

On his matchup with Brad Solomon:
“I have a lot of respect for Solomon, as I do all fighters, and I know he’s coming with his best, but I’m going to show him that I’m a different animal. The angles I’m going to be coming at him with are going to give him some major problems. I know he’s been in the ring with some great fighters, so I’m not taking him lightly. I’m going to jump on him if I get him hurt at anytime during this fight. My goal is to not let this fight go the distance.”

On making his 2021 debut:
“It’s been frustrating not being able to fight during the pandemic. I had to shake off a lot of rust during camp, but my timing is good right now. Even though this year is almost halfway done, I want to finish strong with at least three more fights if I can stay healthy.”

On what a win will do for his career:
“This is a big opportunity for me and I’m hoping a victory will put me in the top ten of all sanctioning organizations. Solomon is not an easy fight and I believe this win will lead to some more meaningful fights. I’m ready to fight anyone, all I want is the opportunity.”

Additional information regarding the undercard will be announced soon.

“There is no more exciting a middleweight in the world today than Jaime Munguia, and every time he fights, he brings huge knockout power into the ring,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy. “Sulecki is a tough customer who gave Danny Jacobs all he can handle, but if Munguia can pass this test, a world championship fight is right around the corner.”

Munguia is a 24-year-old former world champion from Tijuana, Mexico who leaped onto to the highest levels of the super welterweight division by knocking out Sadam “World Kid” Ali to capture the WBO title. Munguia then defended his title against Liam “Beefy” Smith, Brandon “Bad Boy” Cook, Takeshi Inoue, Dennis Hogan and Patrick Allotey. After five defenses at junior middleweight, Munguia moved up to 160 pounds to capture the WBO Intercontinental Middleweight Title against Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan, which he defended against Tureano Johnson. Munguia looks to demonstrate the new skills he’s acquired under head trainer Erik “El Terrible” Morales against the toughest challenge of his career to date.

“I feel very happy to be returning on April 24 against Maciej Sulecki,” said Munguia. “It will be a great fight against great challenger. We are training at 100% to be in the best of conditions, and we promise to deliver an exciting battle.”

Sulecki is a Polish contender who has scored knockout victories against Hugo “The Boss” Centeno Jr. and countryman Grzegorz Proksa. The 31-year-old puncher has only suffered two defeats, which were against Daniel “The Miracle Man” Jacobs and Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade. Sulecki believes Munguia is standing in his way of another title shot.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to return to the United States and fight in the main event of such a big card,” said Sulecki. “Jaime Munguia is a strong, young warrior, but I have fought against some of the best of this division. On April 24, I will show the world that I am a top middleweight contender and that I deserve another world title shot.”

“Maciej Sulecki is very excited about this opportunity to test his skills against Jaime Munguia,” said Leon Margules, President of Warriors Boxing. “This is the perfect challenge to demonstrate that Sulecki deserves another world title shot, and it has all the ingredients to make for an action-packed battle.”
