LOS MOCHIS, Sinaloa, México (August 20, 2022) – Mexican super middleweight Manuel “El Meno” Gallegos (20-1, 17 KOs) showed no signs of rust last night on the “Canela Boxeo” card, presented by CANELA BOXEO, and World Cup Boxing Series (WCBS), at Centennial Sports Center in Los Mochis, Sonora, Mexico.

Fans throughout Latin America watched the “Canela Boxeo” stream live, exclusively and for free.

The new series is the creation of by CANELA BOXEO and WCBS, led by CEO Terry Hollan and promoter/matchmaker Guy Taylor.

“Last night was one of our best World Cup Boxing Series shows,” Taylor said., “Great, exciting and entertaining match-ups on CANELA TV.”

The 25-year-old Gallegos, WCBS’ latest signee, is Mexico’s second-best super middleweight to only the great Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. He has been unable the last 10 months, which resulted in him technically fighting as a light heavyweight against archrival Jesus “Mazo” Moroyoqui (10-2-1, 7 KOs), who was stopped early in round two.

Gallegos, fighting at home in Los Mochis, won his third straight fight, all by knockout, after suffering his lone loss as a professional in 2020.

“Manuel Gallegos proved he’s ready for anyone at 168 pounds,” Taylor noted. “Can you imagine how entertaining Gallegos versus Edgar Berlanga (20-0, 16 KOs) would be, especially with the Mexico-Puerto Rico rivalry?”

In the co-featured event, rising star Jorge “Jorgito” Lugo Cota (9-0, 6 KOs) met the challenge of his toughest test to date, convincingly taking a unanimous decision victory in his first 8-round bout versus welterweight Jesus Antonio “Chino” Rubio (13-6-2, 7 KOs), the former World Boxing Association (WBA) Interim World super lightweight title challenger.

Also fighting at home in Los Mochis, 20-year-old Cota was a standout amateur boxer who compiled a record of 155-10, including numerous state and national championship gold-medal performances. Jorge’s is part of the famed Mexican fightin’ Montiel family. His uncle, 5-time world champion Fernando Montiel (54,6 39 KOs) is the color commentator for “Canela Boxeo.”

“Jorge Lugo made a huge statement defeating a former world title challenger in his fist 8-round bout,” Taylor added. “I’m so proud of this young man. He continues to get better each fight and look forward and to his next bout, which has already been scheduled for October 21st back on CANELA BOXEO.”

Mexican featherweights Nazrio Castro (11-2, 6 KOs) and Sergio “The Shadow” Villalobos (10-6, 2 KOs) were matched in a scheduled 8-rounder, which ended in the fourth round as Castro recorded a technical knockout for his 9th straight win.

The evenly matched lightweight bout between Arnando “El Chica” Ramirez (8-1-1, 3 KOs) and Rafael “Peque” Armenta (5-1-1, 1 KO) lived up to the pre-fight billings as Ramirez edged Armenta by way of a 6-round majority decision.

Another Mexican amateur star, featherweight Alejandro Cota (3-0, 1 KO) turned in an auspicious television debut at the tender age of 17, pitching a shutout by winning all four rounds on each of the three judges’ scorecards against Luis Nides Nunez (1-3-1, 0 KO). Cota was the 2021 National Mexican Champion, turning pro after registering a 114-6 amateur record, including 4 Sonora State Championships.

The new “Canala Boxeo” series continues September 16th in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico, headlined by undefeated Mexican WBC Latino Lightweight Champion Luis “Koreano” Torres (16-0, 10 KOs).

LOS ANGELES (August 1, 2022) – Only 10 days after the launching of the “Canela Box Nights” series, CANELA BOX and World Cup Boxing Series (WCBS), led by CEO Terry Hollan and promoter/matchmaker Guy Taylor, have announced boxing’s newest series will return August 19th to one of boxing’s true hotbeds, Los Mochis, Sonora, Mexico.

“Canela Box Nights” will be held and streamed live for free the third Friday evening every month in Mexico.

Los Mochis, Sonora is synonymous with elite boxing, producing stars such as 5-time World Champion Fernando Montiel 54-6 (39 KOs) and 4-division World Champion Jorge Arce (64-8, 49 KOs).

The most recent WCBS signing, super-middleweight Manuel Gallegos (19-1, 16 KOs), has a legitimate shot at developing into the next star from Los Mochis. Gallegos appears to have the size, strength, skills, and chin to go deep in the loaded 168-pound division. Two fights ago. Gallegos defeated former Showtime and TMT fighter, Kevin Newman II (13-3-1, 8 KOs), of Las Vegas, by way of a close 10-round unanimous decision a year ago.

Gallegos’ opponent in the Aug. 19th 8-round main event is light heavyweight Jesus “Mazo” Moroyoqui (10-1, 7 KOs), of Navojoa, Sonora, the home of Mexican boxing legend and former International Boxing Federation (IBF) World Champion Luis “Yory Boy” Campas (107-17-3. 82 KOs).

“I’ve had the privilege to sit ringside and watch both men fight on separate nights and when the opportunity came to make this fight happen it was something we couldn’t pass up,” explained Taylor. “Now, if you are a boxing purest and love the whole ‘hit and not get hit’ style, this main event match-up may not be for your favorite, but if want to see a fight with no pretense of defense then you better tune in on August 19th to CANELA.TV”.”

Moroyoqui had a good amateur career with more than 100 fights and as a pro he has already defeated two previously undefeated fighters. Moroyoqui’s last fight resulted in his first pro loss to current world-ranked, undefeated Diego Pacheco (15-0) on DAZN.

The 8-round co-featured event will serve as a great “table setter” as one of the top prospects in all of Mexico and member of the Mexico’s famous Montiel boxing family, super lightweight prospect Jorge Lugo Cota (7-0, 5 KOs), also from Los Mochis.. An outstanding amateur who had a record of 155-10, coupled with numerous state and national championship performances, Cota takes a huge leap up in class versus former world title challenger Jesus Antonio Rubio (13-5-2, (7 KOs).

Rubio defeated former world-ranked challenger and United States Boxing Association (USBA) Champion Sonny Fredrickson (21-3) back in the spring of 2021. Defeating Fredrickson earned Rubio an opportunity to fight for the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) Interim Junior Welterweight World Championship against undefeated Alberto Puello (20-0) a year ago albeit dropping a 12-round decision. In Rubio’s last action, he fought to an 8-round split draw with Angel Martinez (14-1, 14KOs).

Julio Cesar Martinez retained the WBC Flyweight title with a 6th round stoppage of Joel Cordova in Guadalajara, Mexico.

In round five, Cordova began to bleed from his mouth. In round six, Matinez dropped Cordova with a hard left. Cordova was able to continue, but ate a huge flurry of punches that forced the referee to stop the bout.

Martinez, 112 lbs of Mexico City is 18-1 with 14 knockouts. Cordova 112 lbs of Mexico City is 12-5-2.

Matellon Decisions Argumendo; Defends Interim Light-Flyweight title

Daniel Matellon retained the WBA Interim Light Flyweight to with a 12-round unanimous decision over former strawweight champion Jose Argumedo.

In round three, Argumedo was cut over his left eye from an accidental clash of heads, In round five, he was cut over his right eye.

Matellon of Panama City, PAN won by scores of 117-111 and 115-113 twice to raise his record to 12-0-2. Arguemdo of Mexico is 24-5-1.

Christian Alan Gomez stopped previously undefeated Jorge Perez Sanchez in round nine of a scheduled 10-round welterweight fight.

In round two, Gomez landed a hard uppercut that Sanchez to the canvas.

In round nine, Gomez landed a perfect uppercut that sent Sanchez face-down to the canvas, and the fight was stopped at 1:50.

Gomez, 147 lbs of Guadalajara, MEX is 21-2-1 with 19 knockouts. Sanchez, 147 lbs of Mexico is 13-1.

Good looking prospect Diego Pacheco stopped Jesus Palomares in round six of a scheduled eight-round battle of undefeated super middleweights.

Pacheco dominated the fight with his boxing ability, and in round six he started to dominate and the fight was stopped after a hard uppercut at 2:17.

Pacheco, 167 lbs of Los Angeles is 12-0 with nine knockouts. Palomares, 167 lbs of Sonora, MEX is 7-1-1.

Gabriel Valenzuela stopped Juan Ocura in round seven in a scheduled eight-round super lightweight fight.

In round three, Vaenzuela dropped Ocura with a perfect right counter,

Ocura hung in tough, but started to eat a lot of shots in round seven, and the bout was stopped at 2:10.

Valenzuela, 138.9 lbs of Tepic, MEX is 24-2-1 with 14 knockouts. Ocura, 138.9 lbs of Sabrinas, MEX is 14-15-1.

In Guadalajara, Mexico, rising undefeated prospect Diego Pacheco takes on undefeated Jesus Palomares in an eight-round super middleweight fight.

In Ashland, Kentucky, world-ranked super welterweight Charles Cinwell takes on Silverio Ortiz, while Haven Brady Jr. takes on Nathan Benichou in a four-round featherweight bout.

Santillan, who is promoted by Thompson Boxing and Top Rank, has a record 26-0 with 15 knockouts. Santillan of San Diego, has wins over Michael Balasi (10-2), Daniyar Hanyk (10-0), Osenohan Vazquez (7-1-1), Eduardo Rivera (9-1-2), Ernesto Ortiz (10-2), Omar Tienda (18-3), Sammy Valentin (12-0), Dodzi Kemeh (19-1), Alejandro Barboza (11-1) and his last bout when defeated former world champion Antonio DeMarco on June 16, 2020 in Las Vegas.

McCalla of Randallstown, Maryland, has a record of 23-4 with 10 knockouts.

McCalla has defeated the likes of Ivan Zigar (1-0-1), Antonio Walls (2-0), John Mackey (11-2-1), Gary Lynch (4-0) and Oscar Godoy (13-2). McCalla has won two in a row, and is coming off of a 2nd round stoppage over Fidel Monterrosa Munoz on October 16th in Plant City, Florida.

Santillan weighed 147.6 lbs and McCalla was 147 lbs at Friday’s weigh-in.

Pacheco of Los Angeles is 11-0 with eight knockouts.

The 20 year-old Pacheco will be facing his 5th undefeated foe of his three-year career. He already has wins over Felix Aguilar, Guillermo Maldonado, Jose Esparza and Terry Ferandez. Pacheco also has a 2nd round stoppage over Juan Antonio Mendez (12-2). Pacheco is coming off a unanimous decision over Rodolfo Gomez Jr. on February 21st in Miami.

Palomares of Sonora, Mexico is 7-0-1 with four knockouts, and has defeated two undefeated opponents in his last two bouts. He has a 2nd round stoppage over Christian Hermosillo (3-0) and in his last bout Palomares won a unanimous decision over Jaime Portillo on November 19th in Sonora, Mexico.

Both Pacheco and Palomares were 167 lbs at Friday’s weigh-in

In Ashland, Kentucky Conwell and Brady were able to book fights following bouts being postponed in Miami.

Conwell of Cleveland is ranked number-seven by the IBF, has a record of 14-0 with 11 knockouts,

The 2016 United States Olympian is the USBA champion, who has made three defenses has wins over Roque Zeoeda (4-1-3), Travis Scott (19-3), His USBA title winning effort over Courtney Pennington (12-3-3) and defenses over undefeated Webdy Toussaint (12-0) and Madiyar Ashkeyev (14-0).

Conwell, who is promoted by DiBella Entertainment and Holden Productions checked in at 158 lbs.

Ortiz of Yucitan, Mexico has a record of 37-26 with 18 knockouts, and is a 21 year veteran,

He has fought many world champions and title challengers and has sprung upsets over Daniel Seda, Miguel Angel Huerta, Mian Hussein and Ramzan Baysarov

Brady of Albany, Georgia is 2-0 with both wins coming via knockout. He weighed 128 lbs.

The 19 year-old Brady, who is promoted by Top Rank, is coming off a 2nd round stoppage over Michael Land on December 12th in Las Vegas.

Benichou of Puebla, Mexico has a record of 2-4 with two knockouts.
