Fast-rising welterweight star Ivan Golub, of Brooklyn, NY, is co-promoted by DiBella Entertainment and Fight Promotions Inc., and managed by David McWater’s Split-T Management. He captured the WBC USNBC welterweight title in his last fight via outstanding 10-round shutout decision victory against Lanardo Tyner on August 18, 2018. Golub was a highly accomplished amateur, accumulating a 270-32 record. He became a five-time Ukrainian National champion, won bronze medals at the Junior World Championships in 2006 and at the World Championships in 2009. He also participated in the World Series of Boxing, winning all five of his bouts.

WBA Super Middleweight Women’s World Champion Alicia “The Empress” Napoleon (10-1, 5 KOs) will make her highly anticipated return to the ring in an eight-round non-title bout. A native of Lindenhurst, NY, Napoleon won her world title with a 10-round unanimous decision versus Femke Hermans on March 3, 2018, at Barclays Center. Making her first defense on August 4, 2018, the charismatic Napoleon defeated Hannah Rankin by 10-round decision. The Veteran Boxers Association honored Napoleon as the 2018 “New York State Female Fighter of the Year” at their annual Holiday Awards Dinner. Before her August 2014 pro debut, Napoleon competed as an amateur for nine years, winning 11 National titles, including two New York Golden Gloves championships and a National Golden Gloves title.

Standing at 6’7″, former Olympian Bakhodir “The Big Uzbek” Jalolov (5-0, 5 KOs) is a heavyweight giant from Uzbekistan, now training out of Los Angeles, CA, and will see action in a six-round tilt. He is coming off of a second-round stoppage against Willie Harvey, on March 15, in California. Born in Sariosiyo, Uzbekistan, Jalolov was a highly accomplished amateur, compiling a record of 84-13. A four-time National champion from 2013 to 2016 and the #1 ranked amateur in the world before his pro debut, Jalolov represented his homeland at the 2016 Olympic Games and had the distinguished honor of being the country’s flag-bearer at the Opening Ceremonies. As an amateur, Jalolov won gold medals at the Asian Amateur Boxing Championships in 2017, World Cup Tournament, Liventsev Memorial Tournament, Great Silk Way Tournament, and Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament in 2015, and at the World Cup of Petroleum Countries Tournament in 2014. During his amateur career, Jalolov also focused on his education, earning a Master’s Degree in Sports Science.

Undefeated junior middleweight prospect Hurshidbek Normatov (7-0, 3 KOs), of Brooklyn, NY, will battle in a scheduled six-rounder. A native of Uzbekistan, the 26-year-old southpaw, managed by David McWater’s Split-T Management, is coming off of a thrilling sixth-round knockout of previously unbeaten Alexis Gaytan on July 21, 2018, at Foxwoods Resort Casino. As an amateur, Normatov won the 2014 European National Championships and accumulated a 190-40 record.

In the super bantamweight division, Brooklyn’s Khalid “Pure Gold” Twaiti (4-0, 2 KOs) will compete in a four-round bout. Fighting for the first time in 2019, Twaiti is coming off of a four-round unanimous decision against Carlos Noe Ramirez on September 29, 2018, in his home borough. He turned pro in February 2017, after compiling a 74-15 amateur record.

Welterweight prospect Brian Ceballo (7-0, 3 KOs), of Brooklyn, NY, promoted by Tom Loeffler’s 360 Promotions and managed by David McWater’s Split-T Management, will fight in a six-rounder. Ceballo was a stellar amateur, compiling a 206-13 record while becoming a five-time New York Golden Gloves champion. He turned pro last March and is coming off of a six-round unanimous decision victory against Randy Fuentes, at the Avalon, in Hollywood, CA.

Battle In The Ballroom Boxing Series Announced for Fairmont Hotel In San Francisco Five Star Resort to Host First Ever Sporting Event

Pro boxing returns to San Francisco in a very big way on Saturday night April 7th, as Hard Hitta Promotions announced today a new pro boxing series in downtown San Francisco at the historic five-star Fairmont Hotel. A six-bout pro boxing card will be staged in the 1,250 seat Fairmont Grand Ballroom featuring longtime contender and San Francisco native Karim Mayfield in the featured bout along with a host of other Bay area boxing prospects.

Presented by Mayfield’s Hard Hitta Promotions, in association with Humboldt Boxing Promotions, this event will be the first boxing show ever held at the historic five-star Fairmont, and to celebrate, fight fans will be treated to an action-packed six-fight card headlined by an eight-round welterweight showdown between Mayfield and Gaku Takahashi. “I really wanted to bring boxing back to San Francisco in a classy manner,” said Mayfield, “and you can’t get classier than the Fairmont.” And to ensure that this new boxing series will be the best to hit the Bay Area in years, Hard Hitta Promotions has retained long time fight promoter Roy Englebrecht as a show consultant. Englebrecht is best know for selling his company to Oscar De La Hoya in 2002 and forming Golden Boy Promotions where he served as COO the first three years. Englebrecht was also the promoter who launched the original Battle In The Ballroom shows at the Irvine Marriott starting in the 1990’s and running for 25 consecutive years.

Tickets for Battle in the Ballroom, priced at $80, $100, and $250, are available by ordering online at http://www.hardhittapromotions.com/

Doors open at 5pm and the first bell rings at 6pm.

A veteran of a dozen years in the pro game, Karim Mayfield (20-4-1, 11 KOs) is a proud native of San Francisco who has represented his city well on the international boxing scene despite starting late in the sport at the age of 20. But he has made up for lost time by winning the NABO junior welterweight title and beating some of the best fighters in his division, including Steve Forbes, Mauricio Herrera and Raymond Serrano. Fresh from an October win over previously unbeaten Miguel Dumas, the 37-year-old will now face off with Gaku Takahashi. A native of Hokkaido, Japan who now makes his home in Los Angeles, Takahashi (15-8-1, 7 KOs) is a gritty southpaw who always comes to fight, and he knows that a win over Mayfield would be a career-altering victory for him.

One of San Francisco’s top prospects, Willie Shaw Jr. (5-0, 4 KOs) has been living up to his nickname “The Thrill” since turning pro in 2017, and after a rookie year in which he went unbeaten and scored four knockouts, the 25-year-old will kick off year two in a six-round junior welterweight bout against an opponent to be named.

In lightweight action scheduled for four rounds, San Fran’s own Lennard David (1-1-3) takes on Tulare’s David Cruz Rivera (0-2).

Middleweight veterans Ricardo Pinnel (15-3-1, 8 KOs) and Enrique Gallegos (7-6-1) also get the call, as San Francisco’s Pinnel defends his home turf in a six-rounder against Medford, Oregon’s Gallegos.

Another local battler, Topie Pedro, will make her pro debut in a four-round junior featherweight bout against Novato’s Marquita Lee, and in the four-round cruiserweight opener, hometown favorite Roberto Andres Salas (1-0) fights for the second time against Ignacio Zambrano.

MAYFIELD WANTS EYUBOV REMATCH: I WAS ROBBED!

mayfieldweighsf206
Having had a week to consider his controversial decision loss to Kazakhstan’s Bakhtiyar Eyubov (11-0, 10 KOs), San Francisco welterweight Karim Mayfield says he’s not happy.

Fighting in the opening fight on ShoBox: The New Generation® last Friday, August 19, at Rhinos Stadium in Rochester, New York, Mayfield (19-4-1, 11 KOs) appeared to outpunch and outwork his unbeaten foe, especially in the last four rounds. Despite having the statistical advantage – and winning in the eyes of the Showtime commentators, most of the ringside media, the fans in attendance and a worldwide outcry – Mayfield found himself on the wrong side of a 10-round split decision (95-94 twice for Eyubov and 95-94 for Mayfield) at the end of their exciting battle.

“I’m pretty upset about it,” said Mayfield. “I trained hard for that fight. I was finally able to get a normal eight-week camp to train and train for a specific fighter. I haven’t had that in a long time. It felt great to be that focused, but to get it stolen from me is not a good feeling. A lot of time fighters lose and think they won, but this isn’t like that. The public agrees I won. The commentators say I won. I was robbed. I’m not just thinking this. It’s true I was robbed.”

Showing toughness, power and a high level of conditioning, Mayfield came on stronger and stronger as the grueling fight wore on. Despite the loss, it was a very impressive and career-rejuvenating performance against a foe who had knocked out all his previous opponents before the end of three rounds.

“I do feel proud of my performance. I showed I belong on the world-class level. I’ve always been a good fighter. But I feel it is imperative I be given a rematch against Eyubov. I feel like this is unfinished business. I didn’t lose because of a lack of skill. I had this stolen from me.”

Mayfield says if Eyubov won’t give him a rematch (he was non-committal post-fight), Showtime should have him back in a high-profile match-up.

“I deserve to be brought back. I’ve beaten some good guys. Eyubov is just one. I beat Mauricio Herrera. I beat Francisco Santana. I beat them and they got big opportunities. Give me a fair shake! I’ll fight anybody if the paper is right.”

Miller stops Kassi after three

Jarrell Miller
Jarell Miller remained undefeated as he stopped Fred Kassi after round three of their scheduled ten round heavyweight bout at Rhinos Stadium in Rochester, New York.

Miller satrted to get to Kassi in the third round and had him in trouble on the ropes several times. After round three, Kassi complained that his hand was hurt and the bout was stopped.

Miller, 296 1/2 lbs of Brooklyn, NY is 18-0-1 with 16 knockouts. Kassi, 237 1/4 lbs of New Orleans, LA is 18-6-1.

“I knew it would take some time to get going tonight. I was thinking maybe three or four rounds to warm up and get going. But in the second round, I got my wind and I knew I hurt him,” said Miller, who is ranked among the top 10 heavyweights in three of the four sanctioning bodies. “My legs came alive and I touched his body and his head. I knew I was going to get the stoppage.

“I think he could have continued, though. He just didn’t want to. That’s why I take my hat off to Deontay Wilder. I still want to break his jaw, but he finished his fight with a broken hand. That’s what champions do. Kassi didn’t want to continue.

“Let’s talk about all these heavyweights. Tyson Fury, he doesn’t want this work. He’s always complaining. He’s always sick or something. I don’t know what’s wrong with him. Wilder, every five minutes he breaks another finger. Look, it’s just a matter of time before these guys are going to have to put up or shut up. Anthony Joshua, that’s going to be a mega fight. I am just begging for him to call my name.”

Kassi said, “I must have hurt my hand in the first round because in the second, every time I hit him I felt a shock. I wanted to keep going but he’s a big guy and I couldn’t use my hand. When you fight a guy that is 50 pounds heavier than you are, you need all the weapons.”

“The size difference and the strength difference was so enormous,” said SHOWTIME Boxing’s veteran analyst Steve Farhood. “Once Miller started rolling, it was clear that Kassi had no answers. Kassi had been nimble and he slid off the ropes a few times in round one. That was gone in round 2. So, perhaps in some people’s eyes, this win is cheapened by the injury, but to me it was clear that Big Baby was on his way to doing what more advanced heavyweights like Dominic Breazeale and Chris Arreola couldn’t do, and that’s stop Fred Kassi.

“Bottom line, Jarrell Miller’s stock went up tonight. He faced his toughest test and he passed it.”

Mason Menard scored a 9th round stoppage over Baha Mamadjonov in a scheduled ten round lightweight bout.

In round three, Menard was cut over his left eye.

In round seven, Menard dropped Mamaadjonov with a right to the body. Seconds later, it was another body shot that made Mamadjonav’s glove touch the canvas. In round nine, Menard landed a hard right that hurt Mamadjonov and after being seperated, he fell to the canvas and the fight was stopped.

Menard, 134 1/2 lbs of Rayne, LA is 32-1 with 24 knockouts. Mamadjonov, 135 lbs of Houston, TX is now 18-3.

“I feel great, but it was a B-level performance from me,” said Menard who is coming from a knockout-of-the-year candidate, “I could have done better. My opponent was an awkward fighter and we got him with two weeks’ notice.

“I knew if I kept putting the pressure, slowly he would fade and I would take him out in the later rounds and that’s exactly how it happened. He was hurting to the body. I knew after the first couple rounds he was breathing really heavy, so the game plan was to start touching him to the body. It was affecting him greatly.

“I’m definitely excited to get my second SHOWTIME knockout and I got some rounds under my belt. It’s been years since I went that many rounds, so it was good to know I can go that long and still finish strong.”

“I don’t really know what went wrong,” said Mamadjonov, who is known for his high boxing IQ. “It was short notice and I think I lost too much weight.

“I didn’t feel his punches, but he caught me with some good body shots. I was fighting evenly with him until the weight loss caught up to me and I got tired.

“I feel ok now. I’m good. I am disappointed but I’m fine. I’ll be back.”

Antonio Nieves and Alejandro Santiago battled to a 10-round split draw in a bantamweight bout.

In round five, Nieves was cut over the left eye from an accidental headbutt.

Each fighter took a card at 96-94 while a third card read even at 95-95.

Nieves, 117 lbs of Cleveland, OH is now 16-0-2. Santiago, 117 1/2 lbs of Tijuana, MX is 11-2-2.

Nieves landed 159 of 686 punches. Santiago was

“I thought it was close, but I think I pulled it out,” said Nieves. “I should have gotten the victory by maybe one or two points. But the judges see what they saw, you know?

“I do not feel I put on the impressive performance I was hoping to. I wasn’t at my best. He (Santiago) was a little awkward and my right hand was hurting a little bit, but I really don’t know why I wasn’t letting my hands go like I usually do.

“I learned I have to stick to my game plan and keep using my jab. I didn’t use it like I usually do. I need to just do what I do and not worry about what my opponent is doing.

“I don’t think nerves had anything to do with it, even though it was the biggest fight of my career. I was just letting him get off first. I should have followed my game plan, rather than react to what he was doing. I give myself a C for my performance tonight.”

“It was close, but I think I won the fight. I was always sure I’d beat him and I did. I landed more punches,” said Santiago. “I thought Nieves would be stronger than he was in there.

“I usually fight at super flyweight. I was coming up in weight to do this. It was an opportunity to open more doors for me and I took it. And I think that’s what I did tonight.”

Bakhtiyar Eyubov won a 10-round split decision over Karim Mayfield in a junior welterweight bout.

In round eight, Eyubov was deducted a point for a low blow.

Eyubov, 142 1/2 lbs of Brooklyn, NY won by scores of 95-94 twice while Mayfield took a card 95-94. Eyubov is 11-0. Mayfield, 142 3/4 lbs of San Francisco, CA is 19-4-1.

“I felt it was close, but I did everything I wanted to do and I feel I won nearly every round,” said Eyubov. “I was surprised by Mayfield, especially how hard his head is. He is a real man.

“My lip is a little swollen but that’s because of headbutts. Mayfield fought dirty in there. But I’m happy with the decision. I learned that I can go 10 rounds if I have to. I could go 12. I was still strong at the end of the fight.

“It was a good fight and he’s a tough fighter for sure, but I landed the harder shots and kept active. He was a tough guy, don’t get me wrong, but I certainly won that fight,” said Mayfield. “I feel I performed well. There’s always more work you can do, but for the most part I feel I did good. People thought for some odd reason the fight wouldn’t even go the distance, which is ludicrous. I won the fight though.

“It was part of my game plan to frustrate him and I feel I did that. I executed my plan well. Of course, there was more I could have done. I could have thrown more punches, but I did well.

KARIM MAYFIELD, BACK AT 100 PERCENT, PLANNING SURPRISE PARTY FOR UNBEATEN BAKHTIYAR EYUBOV ON AUG. 19

mayfieldweighsf206
NEW YORK (Aug. 11, 2016) – If the team behind Bakhtiyar Eyubov think his next fight will be another easy showcase for their unbeaten welterweight, his opponent, Karim Mayfield has a message.

“He’s a very strong guy, but I’m more experienced than he is for sure,” said Mayfield. “He comes out looking for the first-round knockout by swinging with everything he’s got and he’s going to find it doesn’t work on me.”

Mayfield (19-3-1, 11 KOs), of San Francisco, will take on Kazakhstan’s Eyubov (10-0, 10 KOs) in the 10-round opening fight on ShoBox: The New Generation® on Friday, Aug. 19, live on SHOWTIME® (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast) from Rhinos Stadium in Rochester, N.Y.

In the 10-round main event, power-punching Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller (17-0-1, 15 KOs) will take on smooth veteran Fred Kassi (18-5-1, 10 KOs) for the NABO Heavyweight Title. In the 10-round co-featured bout, top prospect Mason Menard (31-1, 23 KOs) will face tough Bahodir Mamadjonov (19-2, 11 KOs) in a 10-round battle for the NABO Lightweight Title. Also featured is WBO NABO Bantamweight Champion Antonio Nieves (16-0-1, 8 KOs) of Cleveland, Ohio, defending his title against Alejandro “Peque” Santiago (11-2-1, 3 KOs), of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.

Tickets for the event, presented by Salita Promotions and Greg Cohen Promotions, are available at www.rhinossoccer.com/ and http://www.etix.com.

Mayfield, who has held and defended the NABO Super Lightweight Championship, beaten “uncrowned” world champion Mauricio Herrera by unanimous decision, as well as former world champion Steve Forbes and taken the “0” of then red-hot prospect Raymond Serrano, correctly points out Eyubov’s lack of experience. Eyubov has only boxed a total of 16 rounds as a professional over four and a half years. Take his victory over Jarred Robinson off the list and the combined record of his other nine opponents is 20-87-10 and they have been knocked out 48 times.

“He doesn’t show too much footwork either, so he’s going to have trouble,” Mayfield said. “I expect to bring it to him and for him to not be able to last the whole 10 rounds with me.”

Mayfield’s promoter, Greg Cohen of Greg Cohen Promotions, says another KO by Eyubov is far from a foregone conclusion.

“There is no doubt that Eyubov is very strong and a tremendous puncher, but his lack of experience and quality of opposition leaves glaring question marks that will definitely be answered when he fights Karim,” said Cohen. “Mayfield has fought at the highest level of the sport. Just take a snapshot of his last four opponents and their combined record of 73-14 with 44 KO’s.”

Cohen says that if Eyubov can steamroll his fighter like he has his previous ones, he’ll be the first to congratulate him.

“This is the classic matchup of a young stud vs. the established veteran. If Eyubov can knock out Karim like he has the opposition he has faced to date, I will be the first to take my hat off to him and would instantly consider him one of the top new contenders to burst onto the scene. On the flipside, if Karim beats Eyubov, this win should catapult him back to the top of the contender list and would immediately make him eligible for a world title bout or title eliminator. Truly a crossroads fight for both guys and one in which I really like Karim’s chances.”

“I’m training hard and getting prepared and sparring guys who come forward,” Mayfield said. “You haven’t seen a 100 percent Karim Mayfield. I’ve shown glimpses of it, but the past three fights, my training hasn’t been on point. I was training like a boxer. I’m not the boxer type. I bring it to you and I’m back to my original style. That wasn’t a good look for me. I was burning more energy moving around. I’m excited about this opportunity. After this win, I’ll be back in the top-tier fights. I’m excited I have a great opportunity and proper time to get prepared. I’m working hard and getting ready and I look forward to a sensational victory.”

Barry Tompkins will call the ShoBox action from ringside with Steve Farhood and former world champion Raul Marquez serving as expert analysts. The executive producer is Gordon Hall with Richard Gaughan producing and Rick Phillips directing.

STAR BOXING JR. WELTERWEIGHT EMANUEL TAYLOR SCORES IMPRESSIVE WIN

Emanuel Taylor , who in his last 4 fights fought former WBO world champion Chris Algieri, WBA Jr, Welterweight champ Adrien Broner, undefeated world rated Antonio Orozco, and rated contender Karim Mayfield, looked very sharp as he dismantled the rugged Wilfredo Acuna on the undercard of the Terrance Crawford- Hank Lundy fight at the world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden, on Saturday night. The event was televised live on HBO.

Taylor (19-4 14KO Edgewater, MD) started fast as Acuna (16-19 11KO Nicaragua) was a willing participant as the two traded blows freely in the 1st round. Taylor, returning from a 9 month layoff showed no signs of rust as he punished Acuna with crisp combinations to the head and body. Acuna, to his credit, fought gamely and landed a few very hard blows which Taylor shook off.

As the bout wore on Taylor began to hurt Acuna with both head shots and body shots. Taylor opened up the 6th round with multiple hooks to the head of Acuna and continued the assault finally dropping the game Nicaraguan near the end of the round forcing referee David Fields to call a halt at the 2:29 mark of round 6.

Star Boxing promoter Joe DeGuardia had this to say about Taylor’s performance: “Emanuel is a skilled fighter in a very hot Jr. Welterweight division. He fought a very tough kid in Acuna who we have used in the past with Chris Algieri and Cletus Seldin and Acuna always comes to fight. In the past, Emanuel has fallen just short in a couple of close high profile fights (like Adrien Broner and Antonio Orozco), but after tonight he is now on the path to get another great opportunity in his quest to become a world champion”.

Taylor weighed 143.8 and Acuna 144.4 for the fight.

Video: Watch: Dmitry Mikhaylenko vs. Karim Mayfield Highlights

Mikhaylenko decisions Mayfield

Dmitry Mikhaylenko remained undefeated by winning a 10-round unanimous decision over late-replacement Karim Mayfield in a Welterweight bout.

In round three, Mikhaylenko was cut around with left eye.

Mikhaylenko of Russia won by scores of 100-90 twice and 99-91 and is now 21-0. Mayfield of Oakland, CA is 19-3-1.

Mikhaylenko landed 220-778 punches while Mayfield was 104-487.

Mikhaylenko vs. Mayfield Scouting Report Exciting Welterweights Square Off

Dmitiry Mikhaylenko
Montreal, Quebec, Canada: Dmitry “The Mechanic” Mikhayleno (20-0, 9 KOs) and Karim “Hard Hitta” Mayfield (19-2-1, 11 KOs) will face each other in the opening bout of the Kovalev-Pascal II HBO World Championship Boxing® telecast Saturday night live from the Centre Bell in Montreal, Quebec, Canada for ten rounds for the vacant USBA Welterweight Title. The scouting report for this bout is below:

Category
Dmitry
“The Mechanic” Mikhaylenko
Karim
“Hard Hitta” Mayfield
Age
29
35
Record
20-0-0 (9 KOs)
19-2-1 (11 KOs)
Strength
Dmitry has impressive endurance. He throws an unlimited number of punches and utilizes a fearless in-your-face style.
Mayfield has faced high-level opposition. He possesses good speed in his hands and has a strong chin as well.
Weakness
Mikhaylenko does not possess knockout power in either hand. His in-your-face style also allows his opponents to land shots.
Karim has a tendency to get sloppy at times. He can be a brawler in the ring at times, rather than utilize his boxing skills.
Experience
Dmitry has not faced the same top-level opposition as Karim. His biggest win to date came in his most recent bout against former interim titleholder Johan Perez in August on HBO Latino.
Mayfield has substantial experience. He fought former title contender Thomas Dulorme and holds a win over former interim titlist Mauricio Herrera. He has also previously competed on HBO in the Kovalev-Agnew co-feature in March of 2014.
Power
Dmitry lacks significant power in both hands.
Karim’s power comes out when he smells blood. He has an overhand right that has worked wonders for him in the past.
Speed
The Mechanic has one speed that he likes to maintain throughout the fight.
Hard Hitta has good hand speed when he puts his punches together. He also moves around the ring well which makes his opponents come to him.
Endurance
Mikhaylenko possesses great endurance. He is able to maintain a steady pace throughout the entire fight while also utilizing a high punch output.
Karim has solid endurance as he has been a full ten rounds on four separate occasions. However, he has shown fatigue in the later rounds of some fights. He cannot afford to do that against Mikhaylenko because of the unrelenting pressure that Dmitry likes to apply.
Accuracy
Dmitry is very accurate with his punches. He fights at close range and throws punches and combinations from all angles at a very short distance.
Mayfield demonstrates average accuracy when he is boxing, but he tends to get sloppy. He has also been known to headhunt rather than put his punches together and vary his targets.
Defense
The Mechanic’s offense might just be his best defense. He likes to dictate the pace of the fight by walking his opponents down, which can overwhelm his opponents with an offensive onslaught of punches.
Karim moves around the ring well but sometimes he does not move enough. He tends to find himself going toe-to-toe with guys rather than sticking and moving.
Chin
Mikhaylenko’s chin is still a question as he has yet to be in any great danger thus far.
Mayfield has a solid chin. He has been rocked in the past but never stopped.
Style
Dmitry is a high volume puncher who is always moving forward. He likes to throw punches from all angles and apply constant pressure throughout the fight.
Karim is an entertaining fighter with quick hand speed and decent power. He has no problem trading punches with whoever is standing in front of him.
Crowd Support
The Mechanic may have earned himself some fans in Canada when he competed at the Centre Bell last March when he scored a fifth round stoppage win.
Mayfield may have good crowd support because he has the bigger name of the two. He has also been on the big stage before, so he might be well-received coming into the bout.
Intangibles
At 20-0 Mikhaylenko is not trying to protect his undefeated record. He was originally slated to face ranked contender Ray Robinson and he did not think twice about the change of opponent. He is testing his skills against another highly regarded former title contender in Karim Mayfield. The Mechanic is well-aware that a loss here could be a major setback in his hunt for a world title, but a win can be the catalyst that gets him there.
Karim has been inactive for over a year after two tough and close losses against Thomas Dulorme and Emanuel Taylor. Rather than bounce back with tune-ups to alleviate any ring rust, he has opted to accept the dangerous task of facing an undefeated and ranked welterweight in Dmitry Mikhaylenko. Similar to Dmitry, a loss here after a year out of the ring can be detrimental to his career, but a win would put him right back on the map in this stacked welterweight division.
The Match-up
1. Will Mayfield be able to handle the non-stop come forward style of Mikaylenko?
2. Will Mikhaylenko be able to handle the movement and power of Mayfield?
3. Both guys are in a must-win fight on HBO, who will capitalize on that opportunity?
4. The welterweight division is very hot right now, who will show they belong among the elite?

According to Main Events’ matchmaker and NABF Matchmaker of the Year, Jolene Mizzone, “I give both of these guys a lot of credit. Mikhaylekno was originally supposed to fight a southpaw in Robinson and he accepted a last minute switch to Mayfield, who many believe is a tougher fight then Robinson. Also, Mayfield accepted this fight on two weeks’ notice instead of taking a scheduled tune-up fight in February. This should be an exciting fight!”

HBO BOXING RINGS IN THE NEW YEAR WITH THE INTERNATIONAL SHOWDOWN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING®: SERGEY KOVALEV VS. JEAN PASCAL II AND DMITRY MIKHAYLENKO VS. KARIM MAYFIELD, PRESENTED FROM MONTREAL SATURDAY, JAN. 30

Sergey Kovalev
HBO Boxing’s flagship program kicks off 2016 with a highly anticipated light heavyweight title rematch when WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING: SERGEY KOVALEV VS. JEAN PASCAL II AND DMITRY MIKHAYLENKO VS. KARIM MAYFIELD is seen SATURDAY, JAN. 30 at 9:45 p.m. (live ET/tape-delayed PT) from the Bell Centre in Montreal, exclusively on HBO. The HBO Sports broadcasting team will call the action, which will be available in HDTV, closed-captioned for the hearing-impaired and presented in Spanish on HBO Latino.

Other HBO playdates: Jan. 31 (9:30 a.m.) and Feb. 1 (11:30 p.m.)

HBO2 playdate: Feb. 2 (11:30 p.m.)

Undefeated Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev (28-0-1, 25 KOs) of Kopeysk, Russia, now living and training in Los Angeles and Ft. Lauderdale, defends his light heavyweight crown for the second time against Jean Pascal (30-3-1, 17 KOs) of Quebec, Canada, in a scheduled 12-round bout. The 32-year-old Kovalev, who owns one of the highest knockout percentages in boxing and is among the fiercest punchers, has been a force in the 175-pound division, beating ring legend Bernard Hopkins in a unification bout, as well as knocking out Nathan Cleverly and Cedric Agnew prior to his fiercely contested victory over Pascal in March 2015. His name appears on virtually every list that ranks the sport’s pound-for-pound aces.

After losing to Kovalev via technical knockout, Pascal, 33, rebounded with a decision win against Yunieski Gonzalez in Las Vegas last July and now seeks victory before a hometown Montreal crowd. The fight marks Kovalev’s eighth appearance on HBO and Pascal’s sixth.

The opening bout features undefeated welterweight prospect Dmitry Mikhaylenko (20-0, 9 KOs) of Gelendzhik, Russia, and San Francisco’s Karim Mayfield (19-2-1, 11 KOs) in a 147-pound contest set for 10 rounds. Mikhaylenko’s opponent was originally slated to be Ray Robinson, but an injury suffered in an automobile accident caused Robinson to withdraw. Mayfield hopes to upset Mikhaylenko’s plans to fast-track up the ladder in the deeply talented welterweight division.

HBO’s flagship “World Championship Boxing” series marks its 44th year in 2016, while HBO Boxing presented its 1,000th fight last year.

Karim Mayfield Steps In to Fight Dmitry Mikhaylenko on Kovalev-Pascal II Co-Feature Set for Saturday, January 30 Televised Live on HBO®

mayfieldweighsf206
Montreal, Quebec, Canada: Last week, Ray Robinson suffered injuries in a car accident which caused him to withdraw from his scheduled fight against undefeated welterweight Dmitry “The Mechanic” Mikhaylenko (20-0, 9 KOs). Today Karim “Hard Hitta” Mayfield (19-2-1, 11 KOs) agreed to step in and replace Robinson in the ten-round welterweight co-feature on the Saturday, Jan. 30 HBO World Championship Boxing® telecast which features the much-anticipated rematch between Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev (28-0-1, 25 KOs) and Jean Pascal (30-3-1, 17 KOs) for the WBO, WBA and IBF Light Heavyweight World Championship. The Mikhaylenko-Mayfield bout will be for the vacant USBA Welterweight Title. The HBO telecast begins at 9:45 p.m. ET/PT.

Mikhaylenko, 29, from Gelendzhik, Russia, is co-promoted by Main Events and German Titov Promotions. “The Mechanic” is undefeated and stopped his last three opponents, including former interim super lightweight titleholder Johan Perez. This will be his second fight in Canada; he stopped Felipe De la Paz in the fifth round on the undercard of Kovalev-Pascal I.Mikhaylenko is not one to question any of his opponents. He is in shape all year round and a win against a notable, dangerous, and equally determined guy in Mayfield would be exactly what he needs to be taken seriously in this stacked welterweight division.

Mayfield, a San Francisco, California native now promoted by Greg Cohen Promotions, made his professional debut in 2006 and went undefeated for the first eight years of his professional career. After suffering back-to-back losses in his first two fights in 2014, which included a close-decision against former title contender Thomas Dulorme, he returned to defeat Michael Balasi of Hawaii in an eight-round unanimous decision victory in his last fight on Nov. 8, 2014. He has been inactive for a year but a win over a ranked Mikhaylenko will be an instant game-changer in his career, and can be the difference in getting his name back in the mix.

Main Events’ CEO, Kathy Duva, said, “We were devastated when we learned about Robinson’s accident. Very few fighters would agree to take a fight on such short notice, especially a fight which opens the HBO telecast for such a high-profile event like Kovalev-Pascal II. Mayfield, however, jumped at the opportunity. He wants to step in against an undefeated ranked prospect like Mikhaylenko in an attempt to re-establish himself as a contender. Mikhaylenko has no doubt whatsoever about his abilities inside the ring. He didn’t even blink at the change in opponents. Short notice or not, this is a great fight!”

GCP Announces Promotional Agreement with Colorful Super Lightweight Contender Karim ‘Hard Hitta’ Mayfield

mayfieldweighsf206
Greg Cohen of Greg Cohen Promotions is proud to announce the signing of San Francisco-based super lightweight contender Karim “Hard Hitta” Mayfield (19-2-1, 11 KOs) to an exclusive promotional contract.

A local celebrity and boxing staple in the Bay Area, the charismatic Mayfield has already beaten former world champion Mauricio Herrera, as well as then-undefeated Raymond Serrano. He won the NABO Super Lightweight Championship in 2011 and defended it successfully twice.

The 24-year-old has also served as a sparring partner for world champions Manny Pacquiao, Antonio Margarito, and Sergio Mora. Mayfield came to boxing late, at age 20, but won 54 of his 58 amateur fights before going on a tear as a professional.

“I am excited to be signing with GCP and look forward to being back in action early in 2016,” said Mayfield. “This will give me the opportunity to fight some of the top fighters in the world. I am hard at work preparing, wearing my army fatigues, ready to go duck hunting next year.”

Greg Cohen, his new promoter, says Mayfield makes a very welcome addition to the GCP stable of fighters.

“Karim has amazing natural abilities and the personality to become a crossover star,” said Cohen. “I’m very happy he’s chosen us to help guide his career. We’re going to get him back in the ring often, let him sharpen up his amazing skills and then the sky is the limit for this young man.”

Cohen says he will announce Mayfield’s first appearance under the GCP banner very soon.

Video: Karim Mayfield sends message to Floyd Mayweather

Karim Mayfield Responds To Potential Showdown With Floyd Mayweather Says He’ll Give The Fans A Highly Explosive Fight

mayfieldbeatsramos206

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (July 6, 2015) – After pound for pound king Floyd “Money” Mayweather (48-0, 26 KOs) mentioned Karim “Hard Hitta” Mayfield (19-2-1, 11 KOs) as one of his possible opponents for his final contracted fight with Showtime, the San Francisco native says is ready to step up and give Mayweather his first loss.

“I’m always ready to fight anyone anywhere,” said Karim Mayfield. “The fact that the great Floyd Mayweather has mentioned me as someone he wants to fight in September is music to my ears. It would be an honor to fight Floyd in Las Vegas. He’s done a lot for the sport and he’s arguably the best fighter to ever lace em up. My last few fights have been at 140 pounds and I know the extra weight would make me more powerful. I fought Francisco Santana at 152 pounds and gave him his only KO loss. I’m very powerful and comfortable at that weight. I know I would give Floyd all he can handle. My trainer Ben Bautista and I have a game plan we know will be successful against Mayweather. I’d give Floyd his first loss in a highly explosive fight.”

Set for September 12, 2015, Mayweather will fight an opponent TBA at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. Mayfield, along with Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KOs) are fighters Floyd Mayweather has mentioned as potential opponents. Karim feels he’s the better option.

“No disrespect to Andre Berto, he’s a good fighter and we have a mutual respect for one another, but he’s not as durable as I am. Berto has two losses against opponent’s Floyd has already defeated. I’ve never been dropped, battered or bruised in any of my fights. I bring a rough style to this fight, a style the fans want to see Floyd up against. In addition, the Bay Area is a big media market and I know all my fans here would rise up and support me. My brother La Ron and I, who are independent, sold out my last fight in San Francisco. I’m confident we can bring a big crowd to Las Vegas. It’s only an hour fight away.”

Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs), who’s been begging to fight Mayweather since 2014, is another fighter campaigning to fight Mayweather. After sparring Khan on numerous occasions, Mayfield feels Amir is an easier fight.

“Every time I sparred Amir Khan at Virgil Hunter’s gym, I put hands on him,” Mayfield declared. “So bad that Virgil had to stop the sparring sessions. Khan has also been brutally knocked out twice by Prescott and Garcia. The man has no chin and he wouldn’t last twelve rounds with Money Mayweather. He’s definitely the safer route.”

Mayfield, who’s been in camp with Manny Pacquiao, Antonio Margarito and Danny Garcia to name a few, has all the experience needed to give the fans an entertaining fight. He’s beaten many undefeated fighters and has a unanimous decision win against Mauricio Herrera.

“No one can deny my heart and determination to fight the best,” Mayfield continued. “I’ve been the ring with everyone. I soundly beat Herrera, I whooped Pacquiao and Khan in sparring. Shawn Porter refused to step in the ring when he had the choice to fight me or Erick Bone with only one day notice. A lot of fighters have ducked me because I’m a serious threat to anyone.”

Mayfield feels the fans want to see Floyd Mayweather give an African-American fighter a chance to dethrone him. Mayweather’s last seven opponents have been either, Mexican, Argentinean, Filipino or Puerto Rican.

“I think it’s time for the fans to see Floyd give a brotha a shot.” Mayfield concluded. “Shane Mosley and Zab Judah gave Floyd a run for his money. I feel I can do the same but come out victorious.”

Karim Mayfield makes ring return November 8 in San Francisco

mayfieldweighsf206
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (October 21, 2014) – Boxing returns to San Francisco as OPP & MoBetta Entertainment Present “Back To Business , War On The Wharf” Saturday November 2, 2014, at the Longshoreman’s Hall. In the main event, hometown hero, Karim “Hard Hitta” Mayfield (18-2-1, 11 KOs) and Michael Balasi (10-5, 7 KOs) of Honolulu, HI, will battle in an 8-round welterweight bout. The fight will commence at a catch-weight of 145 lbs. Women’s heavyweights Martha Salazar (12-4, 3 KOs) of San Francisco and Tanzee Daniel (4-3-1, 1 KO) of New York will clash in the 10-round co-main event.

Mayfield is, who hails from the Fillmore district of San Francisco, is looking to rebound from a couple of close decision losses. A victory in his hometown will surely boost his confidence as he looks to get back into title contention.

“Man I’ve been working real hard in the gym and I’m just trying to get back in the win column,” said Karim Mayfield. “I had a couple of setbacks in my last two fights but I’ve had time to rethink the situation and now I feel I’m ready to go on another run. I know I have some fight left in me and I’m going to bring it on November 8th in front of my hometown fans. I want to thank my brother La Ron Mayfield and Osric Pratt for bringing this fight to San Francisco. Balasi is a tough guy but I’m on a mission to get back on top and I’m not going to let him derail me. He’s in trouble!”

Back in April of 2013, Salazar scored an impressive win against former undefeated Greek native Sonya Lamonakis (9-1-2, 1 KO). Salazar, who held the Women’s International Boxing Federation World heavyweight title, is looking to continue her success after the long layoff.

“First off I like to say I’m very happy to be fighting in my hometown,” said Salazar. “Women’s boxing is coming back and I want to finish off these last years of my career on a positive note. It’s been a while since I last fought but I’m ready to go as I had a great training camp. I’m hoping to bring an exciting fight to all my fans with the thoughts of being victorious.”

Taylor decisions Mayfield

Emanuel Taylor
Emanuel Taylor scored a 10-round unanimous decision over Karim Mayfield in a Jr. Welterweight bout at the Paramount Theater in Huntingtin, New York.

Mayfield did well with the right hand over the first two rounds. Taylor turned it around and boxed well using his jab and angles to take control of the fight.

Mayfield scored a flash knockdown in round eight from a right to the side of the head. Taylor was not hurt and was able to seize the 9th and 10th rounds to come out with the victory by scores of 97-92 and 95-94 twice.

Taylor, 141.5 lbs of Edgewater Arsnel, MD is now 18-2. Mayfield, 143 lbs of San Francisco is now 18-2-1.

Cletus Seldin dominated Bayan Jargal for three round but had to settle for a no-contest after a cut over Jargal’s right eye due to an accidental headbutt caused the stoppage in their scheduled 8-round Jr. Welterweight bout.

Seldin was all over Jargal but unfortunately the fight did not go to the full 4 rounds needed for the fight to become official.

KARIM MAYFIELD NOW A FREE AGENT

mayfieldweighsf206
SAN FRANCISCO (April 29, 2014) – Jr. Welterweight contender, Karim “Hard Hitta” Mayfield (18-1-1, 11 KOs) is now a free agent. His promotional agreement with Top Rank has ended.

After suffering his first loss as a professional, a close unanimous decision defeat to Thomas Dulorme (21-1, 14 KOs), Mayfield will look to make a quick return to the ring as he plans to fight in his hometown of San Francisco in mid June. Still a relevant name in the Jr. Welterweight division, Mayfield seeks to fight other contenders in his weight class and is open to working with everyone.

“Now that I’m a free agent, I feel I have more options to compete against other fighters in the top ten of my division,” said Mayfield. “One loss is not going to stop me from trying to accomplish my goal of becoming a world champion. If all goes well, I’ll be fighting in San Francisco at Kezar Pavilion in June. I still have a lot of fight left in me and I’m open to working with other promoters in the future.”

Kovalev stops Agnew in 7 to retain Light Heavyweight crown

ATLANTIC CITY–Sergey Kovalev may not be getting the fight with Adonis Stevenson that he was hoping for, but he was professional in scoring three knockdowns en route to a 7th round stoppage to retain the WBO Light Heavyweight title at the Adrian Phillips Ballroom inside of Boardwalk Hall.

Agnew came out in a southpaw stance and tried to land quick combnations while Kovalev was looking for the right hand. the only action of consequence was a low blow landed by Agnew. At the end if round two, Kovalev landed a hard left hook that dumped Agnew on the canvas. In round three, Kovalev landed a huge four punch combimation that stunned and had Agnew holding on. Round four saw Agnew slip and counter better. Kovalev started to bleed from around his right eye that was ruled from a punch. In round six, Kovalev dropped Agnew for a 2nd time from a body punch. The action was good for the rest of the round, as there was a lot of contact that opened up a cut under Kovalev’s left eye and blood from Agnew’s mouth.

Moments into round seven, Kovalev hit Agnew with what looked like a jab to the body that sent Agnew down for referee Sammy Viruet’s ten count at 58 seconds of round 7.

Kovalev, 174.3 lbs of Russia now 24-0-1 with 22 knockouts. Agnew, 174.4 lbs of Chicago is now 26-1.

After the fight Krusher said, “It was a difficult fight tonight because I got the two cuts. One from his hand and one from his shoulder. I don’t like the floor. He has good defense. I found the key – the left to the body. This is very good for me. I was ready for 12 rounds – just to try. He is not a fighter, he is just a boxer. I tried to box with him. I found the key to the body. I found this open place in his defense and my last punch was more harder.” When asked about Adonis Stevenson Kovalev responded, “Adonis Stevenson is a piece of shit. I will fight any champion in my division. I want to get another title. I am ready for anyone. I will be great boxer.

Main Events’ CEO Kathy Duva said, “Agnew was far tougher than anyone gave him credit for. Sergey is just incredible. We look forward to a nice long run with the best light heavyweight in the world.

Cedric Agnew said only, “I will be back.”

Thomas Dulorme scored a 10 round unanimous decision over Karim Mayfield in a Jr. Welterweight bout.

A right in the first round buckled Mayfield. Dulorme continued to get home with the right hand one at a time. Mayfield started to be agressive in the 3rd. At the end of the round the two exchanged in a furious fashion with Dulorme landed a left hook at the bell.

Round six saw Mayfield land a nice overhand righy onky to get hit right back with a powerful left hook. Round seven saw some good action with Mayfield striking first with a nice right over the top. Dulorme answered back with a hard left hook that momentarily stunned Mayfield. Mayfield was cut around the left eye from a accidental headbutt. Mayfield fought back in round eight with an overhand right. Dulorme landed two hard low blows that stopped the action briefly. Mayfield tried to make a last stand as he chased Dulorme in between landing a couple of nice overhand rights.

Dulorme, 139.8 lbs of Carolina, PR won by scores of 98-92, 97-94 and 96-93 and is now 21-1. Mayfield, 139.6 lbs of San Francisco, CA is now 18-1-1.

“Tonight I wanted to show the world that I’m a force in the Jr. Welterweight division,” said Dulorme. “Mayfield was an undefeated fighter who punches with a lot of power but he never hurt me. Robert Garcia and Alex Ariza are taking me to another level and I believe I’m the best Jr. Welterweight in the world.”

“My promoter Gary Shaw said he wants to see me in a big fight with a world champion in the near future. I’m ready to fight the best. Shaw and I are ready to take on all comers. I dedicate this fight to my people back home in Puerto Rico.” Dulorme concluded.

“Dulorme showed great poise tonight against a power puncher who likes to brawl,” said Gary Shaw. “He’s now in position to challenge any of the champions at 140lbs and I’ll talk with his team to see what we can put together. This is a great win for Dulorme and I’m proud of his accomplishments thus far. Garcia and Ariza are doing a great job with him and happy they’ve united. He’s on his way to big time fights.”

Light Heavyweights Lionell “Lonnie B” Thompson (15-3, 9 KOs) of Buffalo, NY and Radivoje “Hot Rod” Kalajdzic (15-0, 10 KOs) of St. Petersburg, FL met for eight rounds (originally scheduled for ten rounds was cut due to unforeseen delays with the undercard) just prior to the co-feature. “Hot Rod” started strong but tired in the later rounds. Thompson turned it on as Kalajdzic began to wear down but it was not enough to secure the victory. Kalajdzic won via split decision with the judges scoring the bout 78-72 and 76-75 for Kalajdzic and 77-75 for Thompson. The referee Allen Huggins deducted a point from Thompson for spitting out his mouthpiece. Lonnie B said, “I think the score was kind of crazy. I felt like it was close. He is a good fighter. I thought I did enough in the later rounds to win. He fought a tough fight. I am going to go back in the gym, work on my mistakes and come back stronger next time. I thank God that I just came out safe. I am sorry I didn’t get the decision tonight but mark my words I will be back.”

For the first fully international card of the night junior middleweight Puerto Rican Wilky Campfort (17-1, 9 KOs) took on undefeated Khurshid Abdullaev (6-1-1, 3 KOs) of Russia for eight rounds. Campfort knocked Abdullaev down in the first and in the second Campfort threw Abdullaev out of the ring. The Russian came back with a vengeance in the third getting in several key hits. This gutty, gritty brawl was almost too close to call. Campfort won via a very close split decision with the judges scoring the bout 77-74 for Campfort, 76-74 for Abdullaev and 76-75 for Campfort.

Late in round one, Campfort dropped Abdullaev from a right hook. Abdullaev turned the tabled in round two by rocking Campfort and opening up a huge flurry to the point where Campfort threw Abdullaev to the canvas. It was a tough bout throughout as Abdullaev

Heavyweight Adam Kownacki scored a 2nd round stoppage over Excell Holmes in a scheduled 4 round bout.

Kownacki dominated and the fight was stopped after a huge flurry at 41 seconds of round two.

Kowncaki, 254 lbs of Brooklyn is now 6-0 with 6 knockouts. Holmes, 244 lbs of Buffalo is 2-3-1.

Michael Mitchell scored a 2nd round stoppage over Rafael Jastrzbeski in a scheduled four round Super Middleweight bout.

Mitchell, 163.8 lbs of Paterson, NJ is now 3-3-2 with 1 knockout. Jastrzbeski, 166 lbs of Vineland, NJ is now 4-8-1.

Scores were 40-35 on all cards for Romero, 138.6 lbs and is now 3-0. Smith, 139.2 lbs of Philadelphia is now 3-1.

In a battle of undefeated Middleweights, Ismael Garcia scored a six round unanimous decision over Dushane Crooks.

Surging to the top of the 175-pound division in powerhouse fashion, the undefeated Kovalev, 30, knocked out his last six opponents in four rounds or fewer, most recently defeating top contender Ismayl Sillakh on HBO in November. A formidable challenger in his own right, the undefeated Agnew, 27, has taken the competition the distance in each of his last four bouts. He turned in a convincing performance in his most recent outing, an April 2013 contest against Yusaf Mack, earning a shot at a major title in his HBO debut.

THOMAS DULORME CAMP NOTES FROM ONXNARD, CALIF.

Thomas Dulorme
OXNARD, CA (March 17, 2014) – Gary Shaw Productions rising star, Puerto Rican sensation, Thomas Dulorme (20-1, 14 KOs), who’s highly ranked in all sanctioning organizations, gives his thoughts on his recent training camp with new trainer, Robert Garcia. Dulorme will battle Karim Mayfield (18-0-1, 11 KOs) in Atlantic City, New Jersey, March 29 in a 10-round bout for the NABF Super Lightweight title on the undercard of Sergey Kovalev (23-0-1, 21 KOs) vs. Cedric Agnew (26-0, 13 KOs). Both fights will be televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark® beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Dulorme on working with promoter Gary Shaw and fighting on HBO…
“Gary Shaw is a fantastic promoter and I’m thrilled to be fighting back on HBO. I told Shaw that I was hungry to get back into world title contention and that is exactly what I’m doing going up against a tough fighter like Mayfield. Gary Shaw has always been straight forward with me when it comes to my career and I appreciate him standing behind me. I want to thank Shaw and everyone at HBO for giving me another opportunity to fight on the big stage. I promise to put on a great show.”

Dulorme comments on his recent training camp with Robert Garcia….
“I’ve been here training with Robert Garcia in Oxnard, Californian for the last eight weeks. He’s a tremendous coach and I’m learning a lot about myself and what I need to improve on. There is always room for growth and Garcia is bringing the best out of me. I’ve been getting great sparring and I’ll be 100% ready for Mayfield’s awkward style.”

Dulorme discusses strength and conditioning methods with Alex Ariza…
“Alex Ariza is great at what he does and I’m happy that he is helping me with my strength and conditioning. We are doing a lot of explosive drills that are helping me with my overall speed and stamina. I feel very strong at 140lbs and with the type of training Ariza has me doing, I feel more confident in my ability to punch with power at this weight.”

Dulorme on sparring with top level opposition…
“I don’t want to give up the names of my sparring partners but everyone that Garcia has me sparring have excellent professional records and all of them are giving me great work. There are a couple of Russian fighters along with a few Olympians in camp with me. During this camp there is no room to make mistakes or else you will pay for them. These are the best sparring partners I’ve had for any camp in my pro career.”

Dulorme on his fight against undefeated contender Karim Mayfield…
“Mayfield is a great fighter but he’s never faced the type of punches that I’ll be throwing at him. I posses speed and power unlike any of Mayfield’s past opponents. His awkward style will not be a problem. He also has physical disadvantages that I will exploit. I know he thinks he’s unbeatable but I will prove him wrong.”

KARIM MAYFIELD TALKS TRAININGCAMP, FIGHTING ON HBO, GARCIA vs. HERRERA OUTCOME

mayfieldweighsf206
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (March 17, 2014) – Top Rank’s undefeated Super Lightweight contender, Karim “Hard Hitta” Mayfield (18-0-1, 11 KOs), talks about his training camp with Virgil Hunter, his upcoming bout against Puerto Rico’s rising star Thomas Dulorme (20-1, 18 KOs), fighting on HBO for the second time in his career and the Garcia vs. Herrera outcome.

Mayfield vs. Dulorme, 10-round bout for the NABF Super Lightweight title, will take place in Atlantic City, New Jersey Saturday, March 29 on the undercard of Sergey Kovalev (23-0-1, 21 KOs) vs. Cedric Agnew (26-0, 13 KOs). Both fights will be televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark® beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Mayfield on training with Virgil Hunter…
“Virgil and I have been working together since I was in the amateurs. He knows how to push me to bring out the best in my fighting style. Ben Bautista is also helping out. Virgil has some of the best fighters in the world working out at his gym so I’m getting the best sparring possible. Virgil has got me working on some new punches that I’ll display against Dulorme. Together I have a great corner guiding me to the top. Training camp is going great.”

Mayfield on his fight against top rated contender Thomas Dulorme…
“Dulorme is a technical guy with a long jab who has some fast hands. He’s nothing special though. I’ve seen him get knocked out before so I know his chin is suspect. I’ve fought guys who are long and rangy just like him so I’m confident in my ability to land some powerful shots. If I touch that chin of his, there’s no doubt, he’s getting knocked out.”

Mayfield comments on the Danny Garcia vs. Mauricio Herrera outcome…
“I thought Herrera pulled off the victory against Garcia because he landed more punches and was the aggressor for most of the fight. The fact that I dominated Herrera and he got the world title opportunity means there’s something wrong. I’ve been calling Danny Garcia out for the last couple of years but he’s been running from me because I put it on him when he brought me in camp. I’ll beat the breaks off Garcia if we ever fight. First I have to take care of Dulorme and that is where my 100% focus is right now.”

Mayfield comments on fighting on HBO for the second time…
“I’m very excited to be fighting on HBO again. This is a big opportunity to prove I’m one of the top fighters in the division. This is the type of fight the fans are seeking, two guys at the top of their game who are hungry to prove their great. I want to thank my promoter Bob Arum, Top Rank and HBO for giving another shot to showcase my talent on a global network.”

DULORME vs. MAYFIELD MARCH 29 AT THE BOARDWALK HALL IN ATLANTIC CITY, NJ LIVE ON HBO BOXING AFTER DARK

Thomas Dulorme
NEW JERSEY (February 25, 2014) – Gary Shaw Production’s super-lightweight contender and Puerto Rican star, Thomas Dulorme (20-1, 14 KOs), who’s ranked WBA # 3, IBF # 5, WBC # 6, and WBO # 14, will battle WBO # 6 and WBC # 11 rated contender, Karim “Hard Hitta” Mayfield (18-0-1, 11 KOs) battle for the NABF Super-Lightweight title. The 10-round bout will take place at the Boardwalk Hall (The Ballroom) in Atlantic City, New Jersey, March 29 on the undercard of Sergey Kovalev (23-0-1, 21 KOs) vs. Cedric Agnew (26-0, 13 KOs). The event will be televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark® beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Dulorme is coming into the bout riding a 4-fight winning streak. Since moving from welterweight to super-lightweight, Dulorme feels he’s more powerful and will look to bring that power to Mayfield.

“I know I made the right move coming down from 147 lbs. to 140 lbs.” said Dulorme. “My punches carry a lot more pop now and I’m making the weight with no problems. I feel most comfortable at super-lightweight. I know Mayfield has power so I will be fully prepared for his awkward style. A fight like this is what the fans deserve. My goal is to bring a victory back to Puerto Rico. Mayfield is in danger.”

“Dulorme is coming to show the world he’s got the talent to be something special in this sport and Mayfield is no walk in the park,” promoter Gary Shaw stated. “Dulorme’s very comfortable at 140 pounds and I expect him to be in great shape for this fight. I know if he’s focused he’ll come out on top.”

Mayfield, known for having a unique style, has knocked out four of his last six opponents. His ability to punch heavily with both hands makes him a difficult foe for any fighter. He’ll be looking to take the fight to Dulorme.

“My style is to always go for the knockout and wear down my opponent,” Mayfield said. “I’ve seen Dulorme fight and he’s got good skills but I’m a whole different animal. He’s going to have to withstand my hard hitting style, which is not easy to do. I believe if I can catch him with a good shot on his chin, he’s going down.”

Having seen both fighters up close, promoter Gary Shaw feels this fight is going to have a lot of action.

“Both Dulorme and Mayfield have special talents that they bring to the ring,” said Gary Shaw. “Dulorme is an excellent boxer, with a great jab, while Mayfield has a rough house awkward style. The two of them have good power, and both chins will be tested. I think it’s going to come down to who wants it more which makes for a great night of boxing. This is certainly a fan friendly fight, one everyone should be tuning into.”

Abregu shocks Dulorme in seven

Luis Carlos Abregu scored a mild upset when he stopped previously undefeated super prospect Thomas Dulorme by scoring a seventh round stoppage in a scheduled ten round Welterweight bout at the Turning Stone Resort in Verona, New York

Dulorme came out showing superior speed with the jab. In round three, Abregu shocked everyone when he landed a big right hand that sent Dulorme to the canvas for the first time in his career. Abregu tried to close the show and landed a few more hard shots that staggered Dulorme but the Puerto Rican was able to make it through the round. Dulorme steadied himself a little bit in round four from the southpaw stance.

Abregu came back to have a solid round six as he featured a couple quality right hands. In round seven, Abregu landed a hug right that sent Dulorme back. Abregu chased Dulorme and landed a flurry of punches that was culminated by a right to the head that sent Dulorme to the deck for a second time. Dulorme got to his feet but his corner stopped the bout at 2:38 of round seven.

Abregu, 147 1/2 lbs of Salta, ARG is now 34-1 with twenty-eight knockouts. Dulorme, 147 lbs of Carolina, PA is now 16-1.

“He was too young and maybe with time he’ll become a better fighter,” said Abregu. “He couldn’t get away from my right hand and I knew at some point he was going to get caught with it. As you can see he did and his corner stopped the fight.”

“I didn’t want them to stop the fight but I respect their decision because they were looking out for me.” Dulorme stated. “I was controlling the fight but he caught me with a good punch but I came up and I was ok. I’ll take this experience and learn from it.”

Karim Mayfield scored a ten round unanimous decision over Mauricio Herrera in a Jr. Welterweight bout.

The fight was slow paced until round seven when Mayfield started getting through with some hard power shots. Herrera showed a good chin and walked through the punches. Mayfield landed some more power shots in the next frame which Herrera took well.

Even though Herrera was the busier fighter, it was the power shots of Mayfield that proved to be the difference as Mayfield won by scores of 98-92, 97-93 and 96-94.

Mayfield, 140 lbs is now 17-0-1. Herrera of Riverside, CA is now 18-3-1.

“My conditioning was good and I neutralized his punch output with my smothering,” said Mayfield. “I didn’t get hit with too many big shots and I’m happy with the win. Next time I step into the ring I’m going to pick up my punch count.”

“I felt I was landing the better shots on the inside,” Herrera said. “I felt I won the fight but the judges weren’t scoring the body shots I was landing in the trenches. I’ll be back

Miguel Vazquez made the fifth defense of the IBF Lightweight title with a split decision over Marvin Quintero.

It was a tactical bout with Quintero coming forward and Vazquez boxing and moving. Alot of the rounds were very close and neither man was able to seize any type of control.

Vazquez, 135 lbs of Guadalajara, MX won by scores of 118-110, 116-112 while Quintero won a card 115-113. Vazquez is now 32-3. Quintero, 133 3/4 lbs is now 25-4.

KARIM “HARD HITTA” MAYFIELD “I’M A MAN ON A MISSION”

October 22, 2012 – San Francisco’s undefeated NABO Jr. Welterweight champion, Karim “Hard Hitta” Mayfield (16-0-1, 10 KOs) will defend his title against Southern California’s, Mauricio Herrera (18-2, 7 KOs) this Saturday October 27th at the Turning Stone Resort Casino. The 10-round bout will be televised live on HBO BOXING AFTER DARK® beginning at 10:15 p.m. ET/PT as the co-feature to a special tripleheader featuring Thomas Dulorme vs. Carlos Abregu and Miguel Vasquez vs. Marvin Quintero.

This past Saturday, Mayfield held a public workout for media members and fans at the Champ Nation Boxing Gym in Oakland Ca. He shared his thoughts on defending his title against Herrera and making his HBO debut.

Mayfield Quotes:

On making his HBO debut…

“I’ve worked my whole life for the opportunity to be fighting on HBO. This is my time to shine and I’m really excited to bring an action packed fight to all those in attendance at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino and the millions watching on TV. I’m a man on a mission to show the world I’m the best Jr. Welterweight in the world.”

On fighting Herrera…

“Herrera is a battle tested fighter who always brings an exciting fight to the table because he’s a come forward type guy. That makes for an explosive matchup between us because I throw hard punched from different angles and someone is sure to get knocked out. I think my fight with Herrera will steal the show. Both of us have never been knocked out so this makes for an intriguing bout. If I get him hurt, I definitely will be going for the KO.”

On defending his NABO title…

“After defeating Patrick Lopez to win the NABO title, I defended it once against Raymond Serrano where I had an incredible knockout on ESPN. I know that fight opened doors for my career and here I am defending it once again against Herrera. I plan to remain the NABO champion and will look for bigger fights in the future. After this fight I know I’ll be ready to fight for the world title.”
