Jaime Munguia remained undefeated by stopping Jimmy Kelly in round five of a scheduled 12-round super middleweight bout at The Toyota Arena in Anaheim, California.

In round five, Mungua dropped Kelly with a left hook. A second knockdown occurred when Munguai sent Kelly down with an uppercut. Munguia was able to finish off Kelly with a hard right that was followed by a left that sent Kelly down for a third and final time and the bout was stopped at 2:57.

Munguia, 165 lbs of Tijuana, MEX is 40-0 with 32 knockouts. Kelly, 164 lbs of Manchester, ENG is 26-3.

Duarte Stops Bernaldez in

Oscar Duarte stopped Mark Bernaldez in round eight of their scheduled 10-round super lightweight bout.

In round eight, Duarte landed a hard right that buckled Bernaldez. Duarte followed up with a big flurry and the fight was stopped at 2:05.

Duarte, 136.4 lbs of Perral, MEX is 23-1-1 with 18 knockouts. Bernaldez, 135.6 lbs of Vatabeto, PHL is 23-6.

Valle Decisions Villalobos; Retains Minimumweight Title

Yokasta Valle retained the IBF Minimumweight title with a 10-round unanimous decision over Lorraine Villalobios.

Valle, 104.6 lbs of San Juan, Costa Rica won by scores of 100-90 on all cards and is now 25-2. Villalobos, 104.8 lbs of Los Angeles is 5-4.

Carlos Ortiz scored a stunning fifth round stoppage over previously undefeated prospect Evan Sanchez in a scheduled eight-round super welterweight fight.

The fight was a war for most of time, and in round five, Ortiz hurt Sanchez with a chopping left. Ortiz landed six unanswered punches which included another flush chopping left that sent Sanchez down and out at 2:59.

Ortiz, 151 lbs of Torreon, MEX is now 13-5 with 13 knockouts. Sanchez, 152,4 lbs of Parlier, CA is 11-1.

Former world title challenger Carlos Ocampo stopped Vincent Rodriguez in round one of their eight-round middleweight bout.

In round one, Ocampo dropped Rodriguez with a left hook to the body, and he could not beat the count at 2:06.

Ocampo, 156 lbs of Ensenada, MEX is 34-1 with 22 knockouts. Rodriguez, 154.2 lbs of Buenos Aries, ARG is 40-11-1.

Pin-Pon Reyes stopped Moises Flores in round two of their scheduled six-round welterweight bout.

In round two, Argel dropped Flores with an overhand right. Reyes then landed several hard shots, and the fight was stopped at 55 seconds

Reyes, 139.8 lbs of Mexicali, MEX is now 8-0 with four knockouts. Flores, 147 lbs of Guadalajara, MEX is 25-7-1.

Japhethlee Llamido won a six-round unanimous decision over Saul Hernandez in a lightweight bout.

In round two, Llamido was cut over his right eye due to an accidental headbutt.

In round six, Llamido dropped Hernandez with a right hand.

Llamdio, 128.4 lbs of Long Beach, CA won by scores of 60-54 on all cards and is now 8-0. Hernandez, 132 lbs of Tijuana, MEX is 17-16-1.

Jorge Estrada remained undefeated with an opening round stoppage over Hassan Coleman in a junior middleweight contest.

The fighters came out throwing wild punches, and in an exchange, Estrada landed a body punch that sent Coleman down in a lot of pain and the fight was stopped at 1:51.

Estrada, 153.6 lbs of Mexicali, MEX is now 3-0 with with three knockouts. Coleman, 153 lbs of Los Angeles was making his pro debut.

LAS VEGAS (Oct. 29, 2021) — Junior lightweights Luis Melendez and Thomas Mattice stayed ready. The contenders, on less than two weeks’ notice, agreed to face off Friday, Nov. 5 in the eight-round co-feature to the Mikaela Mayer-Maiva Hamadouche title unification tilt at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, part of Curio Collection by Hilton.
 
Melendez-Mattice replaces the Janibek Alimkhanuly-Hassan N’Dam middleweight showdown, which has been postponed to a later date.

Melendez (16-1, 13 KOs), from Puerto Rico, turned pro with a first-round knockout on a Top Rank card in July 2018. The only blemish on his pro ledger came via split decision defeat in his third pro fight in September 2018. Since that setback, Melendez is 14-0 with 11 knockouts, including eight victories since last December. Mattice (17-2-1, 13 KOs), from Cleveland, Ohio, is no stranger to American boxing fans. He has won two straight fights since a February 2020 majority decision loss to rising lightweight Isaac Cruz on a nationally televised card.

In a special feature, undefeated Las Vegas-born junior lightweight Andres “Savage” Cortes will battle Mark Bernaldez in an eight-rounder. Cortes (15-0, 8 KOs) notched more than 100 wins as an amateur, including a pair of triumphs over current undisputed lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez. His professional breakthrough came in August in Tulsa, Oklahoma, when he knocked out former world title challenger Genesis Servania in one round. That was the first time Servania had been knocked out in 37 professional fights. Bernaldez (23-4, 17 KOs) is a 10-year pro from the Philippines who has won three straight fights by knockout since a July 2020 decision defeat to Albert Bell.

Cortes said, “This is a huge opportunity to show out in front of my fans in Las Vegas. After my big win against Servania, I am coming to do a number on Bernaldez.”
 
In other undercard action:

• Joseph “Blessed Hands” Adorno (14-0-2, 12 KOs) returns in a scheduled eight-round lightweight contest against Damian “El Macho” Araujo (21-3, 8 KOs). Adorno is coming off a pair of draws, including a Fight of the Year contender in April versus fellow unbeaten Jamaine Ortiz. Araujo last fought in April, losing a decision to then-unbeaten junior welterweight prospect Omar Juarez.
   
• Abdullah Mason, a 17-year-old lightweight prodigy from Cleveland, will make his professional debut in a four-rounder against Florida native Jaylan Phillips (1-0, 1 KO). Mason, considered one of America’s top amateur talents, signed with Top Rank earlier this month and is managed by James Prince.
   
• Unbeaten middleweight prospect Tyler “Hercules” Howard (19-0, 11 KOs) returns from a nearly year-long layoff to fight the upset-minded Ian Green (14-2, 11 KOs) in an eight-rounder. Howard was last seen on the Terence Crawford-Kell Brook undercard grinding out an eight-round decision over KeAndrae Leatherwood.

Former two-division world champion Jose Pedraza won a 10-round unanimous decision over former world title challnger Mikkel Lespierre in a junior welterweight bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas,

In round one, LesPierre began to bleed from his nose. Pedraza was dominant early. In round five, LesPierre was credited with a knockdown when a left hit an off-balanced Pedraza. Seconds later, Pedraza landed a big right that was followed by a left that sent LesPierre to the deck. After the round, referee Kenny Bayless went to the replay, and ruled that the knockdown by LesPierre was ruled a slip as the feet got tangled.

In round nine, LesPierre was bleeding over the right eye. In round 10, Pedraza knocked LesPierre with a jab.

Pedraza outlanded LesPierre 168-69.

Pedraza, 143.9 lbs of Cidra, PR won by scores of 100-88 and 99-89 twice and is now 27-3. LesPierre, 143.5 lbs of Brooklyn is 22-2-1.

“Mikkel was a tough opponent, but I stuck to my game plan. I wanted the knockout, but he stayed strong in there. I give him a lot of credit,” Pedraza said. “I would like to fight any of the world champions, but we have to see what happens next. I proved I belong with the top guys in the 140-pound division.”

Albert Bell remained perfect by winning a 10-round unanimous decision over Mark Bernaldez in a junior lightweight fight.

Bell outlanded Bernaldez 125-46.

Bell, 133 lbs of Toledo, OH won by scores of 100-90 on all cards, and is now 17-0. Bernaldez, 132 lbs of General Santos City, PHL is 20-4.

Elvis Rodriguez remained undefeated with a 1st round stoppage over Danny Murray in a scheduled six-round junior welterweight bout.

Rodriguez landed a jab right on the eye that sent Murray through the ropes, and the fight was stopped at 2:13.

Rodriguez, 140.2 lbs of Santo Domingo, DR is 7-0-1 with all wins coming by knockout. Murray, 139.2 lbs of Lanoka Harbor, NJ is 5-4.

Two-time Olympic Gold Medal winner Robeisy Ramirez avenged his disappointing pro debut by winning a six-round unanimous decision in a featherweight bout.

Ramirez was quicker and landed more blows. Gonzalez had swelling over his right eye in round five.

Ramirez outlanded Gonzales 62-55.

Ramirez, 125.1 lbs of Cienfuehos, CUB won by scores of 60-54 on all cards, and is now 4-1. Gonzales, 125.4 lbs of Denver is 5-3-2.

In round three, Ibeh began to bleed from the nose

Kingsley Ibeh won his 2nd fight in seven days as he won a six-round majority decision over previously undefeated Patrick Mailata in a heavyweight fight.

Ibeh outlanded Francis 86-75

Ibeh, 284.1 lbs of Phoenix, AZ won by scores of 58-56 twice and 57-57 and is now 5-1. Mailata, 284 lbs of South Auckland, NZ is 4-1.

Jose Enrique Vivas won a ten-round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Carlos Jackson in a featherweight fight.

Vivas, 125.9 lbs of Montebello, CA won by scores of 97-93 and is now 19-1. Jackson, 125.1 lbs of Atlanta, GA is 16-1.
