GEORGE “EL YUYU” ACOSTA Training Camp Quotes

ONTARIO, CA (February 8, 2023) – Thompson Boxing’s super featherweight prospect, George “El Yuyu” Acosta (13-1, 1 KO), of Whittier, Ca, will look to start his 2023 off with a bang against Marlin Sims (8-1, 4 KOs) of Minneapolis, MN, in an 8-round main event bout headlining Thompson Boxing’s “New Blood” card. Acosta is eager to get back in the ring and campaign for a regional belt.

“New Blood” will take place at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, CA on Friday, February 10, 2023. Doors open at 6:30 pm PT with the first fight starting at 8:00 pm PT. Tickets priced $50, $75, $100, and $125 and are available for purchase by calling 714-935-0900 or online at www.thompsonboxing.com. Fight fans will be able to watch all Thompson Boxing fights, weigh-ins, and behind-the-scenes content, via their new mobile app downloadable on Apple and Google

Here is what Acosta had to say about his recent camp, his matchup with Sims, his goals for 2023, and more.

On his recent training camp:

“I’ve had a long training camp because we were scheduled to fight last year, but something happened, and the fight fell through. It’s fair to say I’m in the best shape of my career because I’ve been grinding in the gym for months now. I am following a strict diet, training hard and focused on adapting and growing as a fighter. This is as close to a perfect camp as I have had in my entire career. I learned a lot during this camp and I’m going to display all my tricks on fight night.”

On his matchup with Marlon Sims:

“I am excited. I won’t lie, I felt some type of way when he was unable to fight me in 2022, and it cost me a fight. So, I am eager to hand him a L for the time I lost. You can make more money, but you can’t get back time. I know he’s coming as well, so fans are going to see a great fight. I just feel I have more in my arsenal then him.”

On what a win will do for his career:

“I want to be the next marquee guy at Thompson Boxing. I am hoping to headline shows three-to-four times a year, be a company guy, someone they can trust to put on good events and strong performances. A win here continues my upward trajectory as being one of the featured fighters that Thompson Boxing pushes to the top of the sport. So, a win here is one step closer to my dream of becoming a world champion.”

On fighting in the main event on Thompson Card:

“I have been the main event a few times, but now to say and believe that I might be a main event fighter for a good portion of my immediate future is a level up in my career. Despite having a loss on my record, I have rebuilt from the ashes only to become stronger. Main event Thompson Boxing cards provide justification for why I am still working so hard day-in, and day-out, to try to be great in this sport.”

Beto Duran will operate as the blow-by-blow commentator with expert commentary by Doug Fischer. Cynthia Conte will serve as the onsite ringside reporter.

MARLIN “SO ICY” SIMS Training Camp Quotes

ONTARIO, CA (February 8, 2023) – Super featherweight prospect, Marlin Sims (8-1, 4 KOs) of Minneapolis, MN, has one thing on his mind and that is upset George “El Yuyu” Acosta (13-1, 1 KO), of Whittier, Ca, in their 8-round main event bout headlining Thompson Boxing’s “New Blood” card.

Fight fans will be able to watch all Thompson Boxing fights, weigh-ins, and behind-the-scenes content, via their new mobile app downloadable on Apple and Google.

Here is what Sims had to say about his recent camp, his matchup with Acosta, fighting in California for the first time, and more.

On his recent training camp:

“Training camp has been really good. I am not really trying to talk all that much. I lead by example and am a man of action. It is clock-in, and clock-out. This is a blue-collar training camp for a blue-collar guy. I am not going to ‘wow’ anyone with words, but I will with my fists in the ring on fight night.

On his matchup with George Acosta:

“He is solid. He is confident. He believes in himself, but that is all fine and good. He should. I know what I am, and I know what I am capable of. Let’s be honest, he can’t crack at all with only one knockout, and he was hurt in one of his recent fights. He must fight a smart fight, because I have 50% KO ratio, and my only loss is to a top fighter in Dominique Crowder. George Acosta is good, but I’m better.”

On what a win will do for his career:

“I win I become one of these guys who people take notice of. I have fought a lot of people off television and stuff, and a win over a known fighter on an accessible streaming platform like Thompson Boxing is huge. This is a what have you done for me lately sport, and I want to put my best foot forward and set myself up for bigger fights with a victory.”

On fighting in California for the first time in the main event on Thompson Card:

“Huge. This is the biggest moment of my career, to date. I’ll be making my California debut and I plan on bringing home the win in Acosta’s hometown. Thompson Boxing has treated me with respect and has been fair. I am excited to show my skills to everyone watching on all of Thompson Boxing’s platforms. It’s great that all my people back home will be able to watch.”

Beto Duran will operate as the blow-by-blow commentator with expert commentary by Doug Fischer. Cynthia Conte will serve as the onsite ringside reporter.

“NUCKLE” NELSON OLIVA TRAINING CAMP NOTES

ONTARIO, CA (February 6, 2023) – Before the Super featherweights contender George “El Yuyu” Acosta (13-1, 1 KO) and Marlin Sims (8-1, 4 KOs) do battle, we will see a 6-round super welterweight bout showcasing “Nuckle” Nelson Oliva (5-0, 5 KOs) of Los Angeles, CA, as he takes on fellow undefeated foe, Wayne Boudreaux (2-0, 1 KO), of Marrero, LA. Oliva vs. Boudreaux will take place on Thompson Boxing’s New Blood card.

Here is what Oliva had to say about his recent training camp, his matchup with Boudreaux, making his 2023 debut, and more.

On his recent training camp:

“I love the grind. I work hard all-day, and I train harder at night. This camp has been about staying focused on my goal and appreciating the journey through the ranks of the sport. One day I will look back and say ‘man, these were the days’. I live for moments like this and I’m thankful to my team for always having my back. It’s been a nice camp and my trainer Henry Ramierz has me in great shape with good plan in place.”

On his matchup with Wayne Boudreaux:

“He is a good fighter, a good amateur, but he got stopped in Olympic Trials to a good puncher and I know I am a good puncher as well. I think he is talented, but he is also flawed. I don’t have the pedigree, but I believe I have more desire, will, and focus. I want this more than him, and I believe when I hit him, he will slowly stop fighting back.”

On what a win will do for his career:

“The goal is to get into bigger and better fights. Not many fighters would take this fight at this point in their career, but I want to be great. The goal is to improve, constantly get better, and take on opponents who are no worse than my last opponent.”

On fighting on Thompson Card:

“I love it. Thompson has been the best part for my career. Honestly, I hope to fight my whole career with them. I see myself as a blue-collar fighter with a great promotional company that will take me to the highest level of the sport. It is great to fight in Southern California, and even better doing so with Thompson Boxing, how has been keeping me busy.”

George “El YuYu” Acosta Training Camp Quotes

LOS ANGELES, CA (June 15, 2022) – Lightweight prospect, George “El YuYu” Acosta (12-1, 1 KO), of Whittier, California, is in one of the toughest fights of his career as he faces, Marlin “So Icey” Sims (8-1, 4 KOs), of Minneapolis, Minnesota, this Friday, June 17th, on the “Path To Glory” card at the DoubleTree Hotel in Ontario, California, promoted by Thompson Boxing Promotions. Acosta vs. Sims, an eight-round bout, will serve as the co-main event to Saul Sanchez vs. Eros Correa, a ten-round bantamweight clash.

Tickets are priced at $50$75, & $100, and are available for purchase by calling 714-935-0900, or online at ThompsonBoxing.com. Fight fans will be able to watch all Thompson Boxing fights, weigh-ins, and behind-the-scenes content, via their new Mobile App downloadable on Apple and Google.

Here is what Acosta had to say about his upcoming fight with Sims, his recent training camp, and more.

On his recent training camp:

“It was a really hard training camp, in which I trained two-to-three times a-day, invested in myself, like all high-level fighters have to do. Everyone on my team molded together to make this the best camp of my career. I know an impressive win on Friday night could lead to big things. That is what I want, so I went all in on this camp.”

On his upcoming fight with Sims:

“I am excited to prove myself on this level. I have worked hard on my diet, strength program, developing a social media following with my YouTube channel, and now I feel whole, as a person and a fighter. It comes down to performing on this night, and I know that Marlin Sims will see the best version of me on night night, as will the fans. I’m expecting him to be in the best shape of his life, which is going to make for a great fight. He does a lot of good things in the ring, but I feel my ring IQ and determination will get me the victory.”

On what a win will do for his career:

“I lost a lot of momentum when I lost to Ruben Torres. Torres is being thrown around as a prospect of the year contender, and I felt that was a close fight, but people didn’t pay attention to my career the same way after I lost. This is my chance to prove the doubters wrong, and show just how good I am. I want to break onto the scene at the world-class level. I want to be respected in this division, and a convincing will help.”

On fighting in So-Cal on another Thompson Boxing Promotions card:

“Thompson Boxing Promotions has built my career the right way. I won’t lie, it hasn’t always been easy, but I know I am a much better fighter than most fighters with my record. I know where I stand in the division and what I need to do. Part of what I need to do is get the L.A. fight fans behind me, as they have supported me thus far, and I look to travel someday soon when the right fight happens. I have all the support of Southern California behind me, and I’m expecting a lot of fans to be at my fight this Friday.”
