Fonfara stops Campillo in nine

Andrzej Fonfara scored a come from behind ninth round knockout over former Light Heavyweight champion Gabriwl Campillo in a scheduled twelve round bout at US Cellular Field in Chicago.

Campillo controlled most of the action as he landed some popping shots from distance that continuously snapped the head back of Fonfara. Both fighter’s made an impression on each other as Fonfara was cut around the left eye while Campillo’s right swelled rapidly.

Campillo was cruising along until he got drilled with hard right which buckled him just before the bell sounded to end round eight. Campillo gathered himself and was having success in round nine until he got caught with a hard right that set off a flurry that was unded with a right to the body that sent Campillo down for the ten count at 1:37 of round nine.

Fonfara, 173 lbs of Chicago via Poland is now 24-2 with 14 knockouts. Campillo of Spain is now 22-6-1.

Heavyweight Artur Szpilka scored his second knockout victory over Mike Mollo, this time in round five of a scheduled ten round Heavyweight bout.

Like the first battle that took place on February 1st, it was a bloody war with Szpilka landing some good shots over the first two rounds which included a hard left that rocked Mollo at the bell in round two. In round three, Mollo landed a crushing short left hook that sent Szpilka to the canvas.

That was reminiscent of their first bout when it seemed like Szpilka was on his way to a dominant win before being dropped in that fight as well.

Mollo was bloodied around the right eye in round four and then was hammered out with a punishing left that sent him flat on his back. He was able to get to his feet but the fight was stopped at 1:41 of round five.

Szpilka, 226 lbs of Warsaw, Poland is now 16-0 with 12 knockouts. Mollo, 233 lbs of Chicago is now 20-5-1.

Adrian Granados got off the floor twice to stop Marc Salser Jr. in round six of their eight round Jr. Welterweight bout.

Salser dropped Granados in round two with a hard right hand. He knocked Granados down with yet another right hand in round five. n round six, Granados turned the tide by dropping Salser with a body shot. Granados jumped on Salser and landed a barrage of punches in the corner and the fight was stopped as Salser was falling to the canvas for a second time.

Granados, 140 lbs of Chicago is now 10-1-2 with 6 knockouts. Salser, 138 lbs of Mansfield, OH is now 15-1.

Mike Mollo: I Want Szpilka!

Chicago heavyweight “Merciless” Mike Mollo (20-4, 12 KOs) says he’s thought it over and there is only one fight that make sense for him right now.

“I want the Artur Szpilka rematch. That’s the only fight I want.”

Mollo suddenly finds himself a hot commodity after the back-and-forth war he and Poland’s Szpilka waged on February 1 at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago. Despite fighting through a mask of blood from cuts caused by accidental fouls, Mollo had the undefeated Polish fighter on the floor twice before being knocked out by a perfect shot in round six.

The 33-year-old had been fielding offers to face other fighters, but has now made up his mind: the rematch with Szpilka (13-0, 10 KOs) will be next.

“I want this rematch because of all the injustices in the last fight. I was winning! I should have never been allowed out for the sixth round with the cuts I had from elbows and headbutts. It should have been stopped and gone to the scorecards, like any other professional boxing match, but instead they sent me out to slaughter unable to see.”

Mollo maintains that referee Celestino Ruiz (especially) made several serious errors in judgment during the fight that prevented him from winning.

“He (Ruiz) was cursing at me! You can hear it on TV. He deducted a point from me for nothing and started warning me he would disqualify me. Not to mention all the fouls from Szpilka he missed. Even if you were at the fight, watch it on TV. Get a better look at the ESPN version and you’ll see what I was dealing with. He told my corner my cuts were from legal punches after he had officially ruled they were from fouls. It was a disgrace.”

Mollo says given time to prepare properly, he knows he has what it takes to derail the Szpilka express in a second fight.

“I know my abilities. I know how hard I punch. There’s not a man in the heavyweight division that can take it when I crack them. I wasn’t 100% for the first fight. I was lacking in some areas, and had some ring rust. Plus I broke my toe on Thanksgiving and couldn’t run all of December. I only had four weeks to get in shape. I know if we fight again with a different ref and everybody watching to see if they try to cheat me, it’ll be different.”

Despite losing, Mollo says his performance against Szpilka has raised people’s awareness of him at home and in the boxing world.

“Finally people got to see me for who I am. They got to see my abilities and will and my desire and see what Mike Mollo is about.”

After putting on the kind of unforgettable display of heart and desire that Mike Mollo put on in his last fight, there are plenty of lucrative avenues he could take. But first he has a score to settle.

“I want Szpilka. That’s what needs to be done. So let’s do it.”

Mollo Looking to Flip the Script against Szpilka

Chicago’s “Merciless” Mike Mollo (20-3-1, 12 KOs) knows what the script says: Even though he’s in his own hometown, he’s being brought into to lose to fast-rising Polish heavyweight prospect Artur “The Pin” Szpilka.

However, Mollo says that’s NOT the way it’s going to go.

The two will meet on the undercard of the ESPN Friday Night Fights-televised “King” Carlos Molina vs. Cory “The Next Generation” Spinks 12-round IBF Junior Middleweight Title Eliminator on February 1 at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago.

Presented by 8 Count Productions, Round 3 Productions, Warriors Boxing and Blue Wave Boxing in association with Don King Productions, the exciting night of boxing will also feature a 10-round welterweight battle between two-time former world champion Jose Luis “EL Temible” Castillo (64-11-1, 55 KOs) and Florida’s Antwone “The Truth” Smith (22-4-1, 12 KOs) as the televised co-main event.

“I made a few bad business decisions, especially promotional-wise, and I’ve had three huge fights fall through on me on short notice, but what the boxing world may not know is that I haven’t been sitting around drinking beer and eating pizza. That’s not the case. I’ve been training the whole time for these fights. I’m in top shape and ready to go. I’m not some guy coming in for a payday.”

Mollo says he’s watched Szpilka in action and remains a lot less impressed than most.

“I don’t think he’s everything they say he is. We’re going to find out February 1. He’s fast and can hit a little, but I don’t think he’s the beast that he thinks he is. If they’re looking for an easy opponent, they should keep looking. I’m in great shape. I’ve put in a lot of hard work and all I have to do is hit him, which I’m going to. I’m going to explode on him. We’ll see how he takes it. I have never been down in my life. 25 professional fights and never hit the canvas. I know he’s been down, so we’ll see what he’s made of. I already know what I’m made of. I’m all guts and heart.”

Mollo, training at Go Time Boxing in Chicago and sparring with former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski and undefeated heavyweight David Latoria, says February 1 is going to be a great night for Chicago boxing.

“It’s going to be mobbed. He’ll probably have the Polish community out to watch him. And I have people renting buses to come watch me. It’s going to be awesome. I know it’ll be on Polish TV. I’m definitely TV worthy. I’ve proved myself.”

So if he’s not going to follow the pre-written script, how does Mollo think the fight will go?

“I’m just going to go in and do what I do, which is fight my fight and do what I’m capable of. I think it will work and so does my team. I’m going to cut the ring off and not follow him around everywhere and we’ll see what he does when a determined heavyweight is walking him down all night.”

The colorful Szpilka, who enters the ring in a jail uniform, has been known to be unpredictable in and out of the ring. Is Mollo worried about Szpilka’s antics becoming a factor at the weigh-in or press conference?

“I highly recommend he not do that. I got a lot of friends in this neighborhood who won’t put up with any of that stuff. He should keep the peace.”

Earlier this year, Molina was the victim of horrendous judgment as he was disqualified him after the tenth round enroute to a decisive victory over James Kirkland on MARCH 24 in Houston, Texas.

In a bout broadcast on HBO’s World Championship Boxing, Molina’s corner mistakenly entered the ring before the bell rang following the tenth round. At the time of the stoppage Molina was significantly ahead on two of the scorecards.

Born in Patzcuaro, Michoacan de Ocampo, Mexico, Molina holds victories over former world champion Kermit Cintron, very highly controversial draws with former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Erislandy Lara and clear-cut victories over contenders Danny Perez, Allen Conyers, Ed Parades and Alexis Camacho.

Spinks’ illustrious career included an up and down 2012 as he looked sensational defeating Sechew Powell in a twelve round unanimous decision on JANUARY 28 but getting stopped by Cornelius Bundrage in the seventh round on JUNE 30 as he challenged for the IBF Junior Middleweight Title.

Molina is currently world ranked #4 by the IBF and #7 by the WBC while Spinks is ranked #12 by the IBF.

The 23-year-old Szpilka, 12-0-0 (9KO’s), a native of Wieliczka, Poland, will be making his Chicago debut in front of the huge legion of Polish fight fans.

Sporting an undefeated record of 12-0-0 (9KO’s), the hard hitting southpaw is coming off his career best victory, a dominant ten round unanimous decision on JUNE 30 over two-time world title challenger Jameel McCline in Lodz, Poland.

Born and raised in nearby Oak Lawn, Illinois, the heavy handed Mollo, 20-3-1 (12KO’s), is best known in Chicago for two brutal second round knockouts; over Mike Tyson conqueror Kevin McBride at the Allstate Arena in 2006 and contender Art Binkowki at the Sears Centre in 2007.

In his last start, Mollo battled to a hard fought eight round draw with Gary Gomez on AUGUST 6, 2010 at the UIC Pavilion.

Fighting in the ten round televised co-main event, former two-time world champion Jose Luis Castillo, 64-11-1 (55KO’s) will return to the UIC Pavilion against Antwone Smith following his eighth round stoppage of Chicagoan Ivan Popoca on JULY 13 which was broadcast on ESPN Friday Night Fights.

The 25-year-old Smith, 22-4-1 (12KO’s), heads back to the ring following a career highpoint with a ten round decision win over previously undefeated Ronald Cruz on SEPTEMBER 21, broadcast on NBC Sports Network from the Sands Casino Resort in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Further details on this world-class evening of professional boxing will be announced shortly.

The UIC Pavilion is located at 525 S. Racine, at the corner of Harrison and Racine on the campus of University of Illinois-Chicago. Doors on the night of the event will open at 7pm with the first bell at 7:45pm.

“Andrew Golota boxed him and then beat him half to death”, continued Lawrence in reference to Mollo’s January 19, 2008 defeat to Golota.

“The guy has no inside game and he is not ready for me. He doesn’t do anything textbook but I will give him credit because he does take a good beating.”

With the recent hot streak that he is on, Lawrence believes his date with destiny is getting closer by the fight.

“I will be fighting for the championship within a fight or two. My ratings would be higher except the guys ahead of me are ducking me.”

“Not only am I going to win but I will win in spectacular fashion. I have been putting in the hard work and have been in training camp for ten weeks”, said Mollo from his training camp in Chicago.

Mollo does not put much stock in the five fight knockout streak that Lawrence is on that has catapulted to the number-twelve ranking by the WBC.

“He beat an out shape Jason Gavern and Jason Estrada. He has gotten off easy in those fights and if he wants to live off that then he is fooling himself”

Mollo is most remembered for gallant effort against Andrew Golota as part of the Roy Jones – Felix Trinidad HBO PPV undercard on January 19, 2008 and knows what the win will do for his career.

“This fight will get me back in the spotlight and I am not looking to squeak by with a decision”

Mollo, who hasn’t fought since August 6, 2010 has been training hard to make sure he is primed and ready for Lawrence.

“I spar like it is a real fight and this long layoff doesn’t mean anything because I am always in the gym. I was training for a fight last summer with Seth Mitchell on HBO and the fight got called off due to Robert Guerrero getting hurt and I would like to fight him if it’s the right situation. I am a fighter”

“This fight with Lawrence begins my road to redemption. I am in great shape and I am ready to fight”

April 23, 2012 – Heavyweight contender, Mike Mollo (20-3-1, 12 KOs), returns to the ring on May 18 against Franklin “Yah Yah” Lawrence (17-2-2, 12 KOs) in a 10-round bout for the vacant NABA title. The fight takes place at the Dover Downs Hotel & Casino inside the Rollins Center in Dover, Delaware on their “Friday Night Fight” series.

Promoted by Boxing360, Mollo has been in the ring with some of boxing’s top heavyweights, including Jameel McCline, Andrew Golota and Kevin McBride. Looking to get back into title contention, Mollo is determined to show the boxing community and those in attendance that he’s serious about his boxing career.

“Although I’ve been out of the ring since August of 2010, I feel confident in my ability to make some serious noise in the heavyweight division,” Mollo said. “I’ve been training hard in the gym and my timing is right on point in my last few sparring sessions. Ring rust will not be a factor when I step in the ring. Lawrence is a big puncher and I know he’s coming to fight. One thing is for sure, I’m coming to fight as well, and the fans are going to witness a great night of boxing.”

Said Boxing360 promoter Mario Yagobi, “Mollo is in great shape right now which means trouble for Lawrence. I’ve seen the positive progress with his mental approach to the game and his trainer, Pete Brodsky, says he’s looking fantastic in sparring. With the right training regimen, Mollo is one of the best heavyweights in boxing. I’m excited to see what he will bring to the ring on May 18 because he’s a has a crowd pleasing style.”

Seth Mitchell due back on September 16

After having his August 27th HBO debut fight against Mike Mollo canceled, undefeated Heavyweight prospect was quickly re-scheduled for a September 16th date that will be broadcasted on dueling Networks Telefutura and Fox Sports Net from Las Vegas accoring to Dan Rafael of espn.com

The card will take place at the Texas Station casino and will be on the eve on the much anticipated Floyd Mayweather – Victor Ortiz showdown.

“Seth had worked so hard and I needed him to have something,” manager Sharif Salim told ESPN.com. “This is the longest layoff he’s had between fights. I just said to Golden Boy, ‘Hey, get us something so we can stay busy.’”

“Seth was so disappointed that the (Aug. 27) fight was called off,” Salim said. “He was disappointed not just because of the purse factor, but because he had worked so hard. It was going to be his first time on HBO. That was humongous.”

“We’re ready for what I like to call the ‘fading glories,’” he said. “We’re ready for (former contenders) like Michael Grant and Hasim Rahman. But we have to just stay focused. After the fight was called off, we gave him about two days off and then he got right back in the gym.”

SEARCH FOR SUSPECTED COYOTE IN BONITA SPRINGS AREA UNDER WAY

US Fed News Service, Including US State News May 20, 2008 The Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission issued the following news release:

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), along with several other agencies, continues to search for an animal thought to be a coyote that killed a dog on Sunday night in Bonita Springs.

Yeadon Hyer, 71, was walking his Pekingese when the animal approached and attacked his dog. Hyer attempted to intervene by kicking the animal, which resulted in cuts on top of his left foot and two broken toes, according to the FWC’s Lt. Jeff Rebon. However, Hyer was unable to save the dog. go to site bonita springs florida

This was the second report of an animal killing a dog in this area in the past 10 days. The first attack took place within a mile of Sunday’s incident, and FWC law enforcement officials suspect it might be the same animal.

Working with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services and Lee County Animal Services, the FWC has beefed up patrols in this area and asks anyone with any problems with coyotes to call the Wildlife Alert hotline at 1-888-404-FWCC (3922).

As development encroaches upon the habitats of wildlife, encounters between wild animals and humans are inevitable, but tragic incidents can be minimized by following a few simple guidelines, according to the FWC.

Keeping wildlife attractants, such as pet food and unsecured garbage cans, out of the yard will help keep wildlife from entering neighborhoods. Coyotes in particular look for easy sources of food and will become comfortable in urban settings if they are provided food and become accustomed to humans. in our site bonita springs florida

“Be cautious when walking outside after dark and around water,” said Gary Morse, spokesperson for the FWC. “Carry a flashlight, noisemaker and a walking stick when walking with small animals. That will help scare away wildlife simply looking for an easy source of food.” Coyotes are elusive, becoming more active at dawn and dusk, but they can be seen at anytime during the night or day.

“The FWC will deal with coyotes that become nuisances on a case-by-case basis,” said Nick Wiley, director of the FWC’s Division of Hunting and Game Management. “A sighting of a coyote does not constitute a concern, because coyotes do exist and will continue to exist near humans. However, if there is a specific local problem, as we suspect in this case, we are dedicated to solving the problem and working with other agencies to protect residents from harm.”Contact: Gary Morse 863/648-3200.
