December 10: Undefeated U.S. Olympian Tiger Johnson & Joe Ward-Frederic Julan Light Heavyweight Showdown Added to Teofimo Lopez-Jose Pedraza Card at Madison Square Garden

NEW YORK (Nov. 9, 2022) — Rising junior welterweight Tiger Johnson, who starred for Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics, intends on capping his 2022 campaign with a standout performance at The World’s Most Famous Arena.

Johnson steps up in his first scheduled eight-rounder against Mike O’Han Jr. on Saturday, Dec. 10, at Madison Square Garden. Johnson-O’Han joins a loaded fight card headlined by the junior welterweight main event between former lightweight king Teofimo Lopez and former two-weight world champion Jose “Sniper” Pedraza.

Johnson (6-0, 4 KOs), from Cleveland, Ohio, has established himself as one of the sport’s top prospects since turning pro last November. A quarterfinalist in Tokyo, Johnson is 5-0 in 2022, a year that began with a four-round decision over Xavier Madrid in January. In August, he became the first fighter to stop Massachusetts native Harry Gigliotti. Johnson returned on the Vasiliy Lomachenko-Jamaine Ortiz card last month and shut out Esteban Garcia over six rounds. He moves up to the eight-round plateau against O’Han (16-1, 9 KOs), a native of Holbrook, Massachusetts, who has won seven straight bouts.

Johnson said, “Madison Square Garden is the biggest stage in boxing, and I plan on making a huge statement against a tough opponent in Mike O’Han. I am ready to put the 140-pound weight class on notice. I’m going to close out 2022 strong and start climbing the rankings in 2023.”

Lopez-Pedraza tops a televised quadruple-header airing immediately after the Heisman Trophy Ceremony at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+. Heavyweight sensation Jared “The Real Big Baby” Anderson aims for his 13th straight knockout against the battle-tested Jerry “Slugger” Forrest, Puerto Rican junior middleweight star Xander Zayas steps up in class against 28-fight veteran Alexis Salazar, and 2020 Olympic silver medalist Keyshawn Davis looks to jumpstart his world title ambitions in a lightweight duel versus Juan Carlos Burgos.

Johnson-O’Han and additional undercard bouts will stream live and exclusively on ESPN+ at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT. In other undercard action, “Irish” Joe Ward (7-1, 4 KOs) will battle Frederic Julan (12-1, 10 KOs) in a six-round light heavyweight tilt, undefeated Polish heavyweight Damian Knyba (8-0, 5 KOs) steps up against Emilio Salas (7-3-1, 3 KOs) in a six-rounder, Brooklyn-born featherweight sensation Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington (5-0, 3 KOs) takes on Juan Tapia (12-4, 4 KOs) in an eight-rounder, and Long Island-born welterweight Jahi Tucker (9-0, 5 KOs) aims for win number 10 against Ivan Pandzic (14-2-1, 8 KOs) in an eight-rounder.

Mike Ohan, Jr. & Ryan Kielczweski fighting for different goals on Granite Chin’s “Hometown Royalty”

QUINCY, Mass. (April 25, 2022) – Mike “Bad Man” Ohan, Jr. and Ryan “The Polish Prince” Kielczweski are fighting May 7th on the “Hometown Royalty” for much different potentially career-changing reasons.

“Hometown Royalty”, presented by Granite Chin in association with Cappiello Boxing Promotions and Shearns Boxing Promotions, will be held at Bridgewater Veterans Club in Bridgewater, Massachusetts (85 Cottage St.), marking the first professional boxing event ever held in that town.

.

Ohan, Jr. (14-1, 8 KOs), of Holbrook, MA, is a former New England welterweight champion who is fighting at junior welterweight for the second fight in a row. Ohan fights Jose “El Chino” Aubel (8-9, 7 KOs), of Argentina, in the 8-round main event.

Ohan is positioning himself for a significant fight, ideally, a regional title and highest purse of his career. In short, he’s trying to get where Kielczweski has been.

“I have an advantage of being a bigger fighter at a smaller weight,” Ohan explained why he’s committed to dropping down one weight class. “My last fight was also at 140. I’m ready to step up, it’s only a matter of time. I’ll fight whoever is lined up but, I believe, I’ll be in a big fight by the end of this year, or in 2023.

“I’ll be fighting 10-15 minutes away from where I live. It’s almost sold out and I’ll have a lot of family, friends, and fans there supporting me. My opponent comes in shape, ready to go. My opponent is a southpaw. I’ve been getting ready to fight a southpaw and today a lot of fighters switch back and forth. It’s no big deal. It’s going to be fun.”

Kielczweski (30-6, 11 KOs), who lives 30-minutes away from the venue in Quincy (MA), is still fighting for a completely different reason. He’s become a gatekeeper, or sorts, and now he wants one more good shot.

The now 32-year-old Kielczweski wants to return to the lofty status he once had, worked ranked as high as No. 4, to get into a lucrative payday. A 2008 National Golden Gloves silver medalist, as well as a 2-time New England Golden Gloves Champion, Ryan K is matched against Argentinian lightweight Mario Lozano (18-5-1, 9 KOs), in the 8-round co-featured event.

“I’m fighting May 7th to get back in the win column to position myself for one last big shot,” Kielczweski said. “I have some gas left in the tank. Why not empty it? It’s tough, though. My last two fights were in Las Vegas, the last in August on the Pacquiao- Ugas undercard. I’ve passed this point already. I may say this is my last year fighting, so I’m going to have fun while it lasts.”

“Ryan and Mike are two of the best guys you will ever meet in boxing,” Granite Chin president Chris Traietti noted. “Both are hardworking, humble guys who aren’t afraid to put in the work and make the most of situations. Ryan has had a tremendous career competing on some of the biggest stages in boxing. He is at the point where he is looking to wrap it up with another shot or two at big paydays and then move on with his life. Mike is now getting to the point where he is going to start to see the stages that Ryan has been on. Mike has grinded his way through the club boxing scene and I’m excited to see him move on to the national stage very soon and get the compensation he has worked for.”

Fighting out of the “City of Champions,” Brockton’s favorite son David Ribeiro will make his much – anticipated pro debut in a 4-round bout versus Joshua Zimmerman (0-8). Ribeiro was a celebrated amateur having won gold medals at the 2020 New England Golden Gloves, 2019 King of the Ring, and the regional Mike Tyson Tournament.

2018 New England Golden Gloves runner-up, undefeated New Bedford light heavyweight Edet Mkpanam (6-0, 5 KOs), meets Scott “Bombz” Lampert (2-4, 2 KOs) in a 6-round match.

Fall River (MA) welterweight Damon Towns (4-0, 3 KOs) faces Robert Bricks (0-9) in a 4-round bout.

Card subject to change.

Tickets are on sale, $60.00 standing room and $40.00 floor seats, and available for purchase at www.TicketRiver.com (Search: Hometown Royalty).

New England welterweight champion Mike Ohan, Jr. preparing for 2022 breakout

Ohan, fighting out of Holbrook (MA), will be in his first scheduled 10-round bout against Mexican challenger Israel “Filipino Tigre” Rojas (14-24, 5 KOs) in a super lightweight, non-title fight.

“Ten rounds means a lot to me,” Ohan said. “It’s something I’ve watched my entire life because all legends fought 10-rounders. This is special for me. I’m ready to go and I will outclass my opponent.”

Ohan captured the vacant New England title last November, when he won an 8-round unanimous decision over Ryan Dibartolomeo, followed by a successful title defense in his last fight in June, when challenger Tyrone Luckey retired after the five rounds.

The New England title is a stepping-stone and next year I feel like I can collect more title belts next year,” he added. “I signed with Chris (Traietti, president of Granite Chin Promotions) because I want to be in big fights. I can’t wait for this fight, I’m already in top shape. Two guys I recently defeated recently knocked out undefeated opponents, (Eric) Palmer (WSD6 vs. 8-0-1 Ruddicus Livsey) and Luckey (WKO1 and WKO6 vs. 7-0-1 Eduardo Aguilar).”

A former 2-time Southern New England Golden Gloves champion, the now 27-year-old Ohan is the son of a former prizefighter, middleweight Mike Ohan (14-6-2, 11 KOs – 1983-95), who sparred “Marvelous” Marvin Hagler. Ohan, Jr’s grandfather on his mother’s side also boxed.

“I always looked up to my father as a fighter,” Ohan., Jr. mentioned, “but he didn’t want me to box. I started late and didn’t go to the gym until I was 16 to help stay out of trouble. My father’s supportive and he goes to my fights. I fell in love with boxing right away and I feel even stronger about it today.”

Ohan’s birth name is Ohanian, but he is Irish. “It’s in my blood,” he explained. “It goes back to the old bare-knuckle days. My father is Irish on his mother’s side, Armenian on his father’s. My grandmother is Irish on both sides. So, I have a lot of Irish in me from my parents.”

New England welterweight champion Mike “Bad Man” O’Han, Jr. defends title vs. Tyrone Luckey

QUINCY, Mass. (June 10, 2021) – New England welterweight champion Mike “Bad Man” O’Han, Jr. will make his first title defense against Tyrone “Hands of Stone” Luckey in an 8-round fight on the “Breakout” card, presented by Granite Chin Promotions, July 26th at New England Sports Center in Derry, New Hampshire.

O’Han, Jr. vs. Luckey will be part of the evening card of another Granite Chin day-night doubleheader (separate admissions), headlined by the 10-round main event for the vacant NABA United States Heavyweight Championship between Steve “The Gentle Giant” Vukosa (13-1, 5 KOs) and “Fly” Mike Marshall (5-1, 4 KOs), the reigning New England heavyweight champion.

O’Han, Jr. is a second-generation boxer. His father, Mike O’Han (14-6-2, 11 KOs), who fought professionally from 1983 to 1995. He was a sparring partner for Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Vinny Paz and Robbie Simms.

“I look up to my father,” O’Han, Jr. said. “I never saw him fight because his last was in 1995 and I was only one. He didn’t really want me to fight. I found boxing when I was around 14 or 15. Winning the New England title was the next step, defending it is step 2, and then whatever happens in the future will be another step. We had this planned since the beginning. I’m only 27 now. Even in the amateurs, we talked about not needing to rush.

O’Han, Jr. (12-1, 6 KOs), fighting out of Holbrook, MA, is a passionate fanbase that frows with each of his fights. He captured the vacant N.E. title last November, when he won a one-sided 8-round decision from New Hampshire welterweight titlist Ryan Dibartolomeo. O’Han’s most recent fight was this past April, in which he stopped Rynell Griffin in the opening round of their non-title fight.

“I love my fans,” O’Han added. “I feed off them. I have a lot of friends who come out to support me. I’m not sure how it’s gotten to this, but social media helps. My last fight was during the day, so even the kids from our gym (South Shore Boxing Club) had a chance to get out of the gym and watch a live fight.

“My opponent has fought some tough guys like Ryan Garcia (current WBC Interim World Lightweight Champion) and Jamaine Ortiz, who I sparred with for his last fight on ESPN+. I need to keep it simple and do what I’ve been doing to get another W.”

Upset-minded Luckey (13-14-4 (9 KOs) has won four of his last six fights.

“This fight is a logical step up for O’Han,” Granite Chin president Chris Traietti remarked. “Now that he is an 8-round fighter, he needs to go up against other seasoned 8-round fighters, which is exactly what he’s doing against Tyrone. Tyrone is a rugged guy who comes to fight and has been in with a ton of talented guys. I have no doubt he will be looking for another upset.”

Former N.E. heavyweight champion Justin “Crazy Train” Rolfe (5-2-1, 4 KOs), of Fairfield, ME, will takes on Mexican challenger Jose Humberto “Olimpico” Corral (20-26, 12 KOs) In the 8-round co-featured event for the vacant ABF Atlantic heavyweight title.
