NATHAN GORMAN EYES HEAVYWEIGHT CLASH WITH DAVID ADELEYE AFTER CHANNEL 5 RETURN

Heavyweight Nathan Gorman would relish a showdown with David Adeleye, as he makes his return live and free-to-air on Channel 5 tomorrow night.

The 27-year-old makes his comeback after over a year out of the ring, on the Wasserman Boxing show at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, in Bolton, live and free-to-air from 10pm.

Brought to fight fans in association with Ladbrokes, Numan and Infinitum, Gorman takes on the confident Ukrainian Bohdan Myronets, who is fresh from an upset victory over Kash Ali in the summer.

Gorman returns to the ring for the first time since his three-round shoot-out for the British heavyweight title against Fabio Wardley last year, and says a statement victory on Friday night should put him back in title contention.

And the cousin of Tyson Fury, says a clash with London’s David Adeleye, who was stopped by Wardely in Saudi Arabia recently, is a perfect fight to make next.

BIG FIGHT ODDS WITH LADBROKES
Gorman 1/4
Myronets 3/1
Draw 16/1

“I’m not the type of person to call other fighters out but Adeleye was calling me out and never left me alone.” Gorman told Wasserman Boxing.

“We’ve both lost fights for the British title to the same opponent, so why can’t we fight each other?

“How about a British title eliminator or a Commonwealth title fight?  Let’s get it on in February.  I think I beat him convincingly.  For three or four rounds he would be game but then I would take over.  He’s a good fighter, but very, very beatable.”

He added: “Myronets is a big test.  He might be looking at me and thinking that, mentally, I’m not right and he’s coming off that win over Kash Ali, which he would convincingly in my opinion.  He is no stranger to coming over here and causing an upset.  But he needs to know that I’m not Kash Ali.”

Roman Fury has been forced to withdraw from Friday’s show through illness.

HEAVYWEIGHT NATHAN GORMAN RETURNS LIVE ON CHANNEL 5 AS MCGREGOR VS LOWE MOVED TO NEW YEAR

Heavyweight contender Nathan Gorman goes straight back in at the deep end when he faces Ukrainian Bohdan Myronets on December 1, live and free-to-air on Channel 5.

Gorman returns to the ring for the first time since last year’s three-round shoot-out for the British title with Fabio Wardley, after a training injury to Lee McGregor has forced his clash with Isaac Lowe to be rearranged.

The highly anticipated WBO European title showdown between McGregor and Lowe will now take place, early in the New Year.

But the bumper Wasserman Boxing show in Bolton, delivered in association with LadbrokesNuman and Infinitum Entertainment, goes on – and now with a heavyweight humdinger on the card as Gorman and Byronets collide.

And Roman Fury, fresh from his brutal stoppage win in Brighton live on Channel 5 last week, is also in action at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on Friday, December 1

The European flyweight title fight between the ferocious Chloe Watson and Justine Lallemand headlines this pre-Christmas cracker, with the big-punching match-up between Gorman and Myronets also showcased live on free-to-air television.

Myronets stunned Kash Ali in Edinburgh in the summer and now he wants to add Gorman to his list of UK scalps.

Kalle Sauerland, Global Head of Boxing at Wasserman Boxing, said: “We’re so disappointed for Lee because he was looking in great shape ahead of this cracker of a fight with Lowe.

“But the contest will still go ahead, early in the New Year, when Lee is fit and firing again, and it will be worth the wait I can guarantee you that.

“In its place for our December 1 show in Bolton, live on Channel 5, comes the return of Nathan Gorman, who goes into a tough, tough fight with Bohdan Myronets.

“This a heavy-duty, big-punching match-up that will not be for the faint-hearted, so make sure you tune-in.

“And it supports a brilliant showdown for the European flyweight title as the future of women’s boxing, Chloe Watson, takes on Justine Lallemand.

“We’ve also got Roman Fury, Dan Toward, Codie Smith and many more on a bumper show in Bolton!”

Brilliant amateur Toward makes his professional debut in Bolton, the electric Smith looks to finish his first year as a pro in style, while James Moorcroft meets Matthew Rennie in a fight that is guaranteed to deliver.

The massive card is also packed with an array of talent, including Adbul Khan, the cousin of British boxing great Amir, Nelson Birchall,Ted Jackson and Immad Naseeb.

WARDLEY AND GORMAN FACE OFF AHEAD OF BRITISH TITLE CLASH – UNDERCARD PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Sport Chairman:

“Thank you Chris and Darren. Welcome everybody to London this afternoon for a big night of boxing on Saturday at the OVO Arena Wembley live on DAZN around the world. The return of ‘The Body Snatcher’ Dillian Whyte against Jermaine Franklin – 21-0 from America. It’s a big big fight for the Heavyweight division. It’s also an outstanding card on a very busy weekend of boxing. I quite often play our shows down but unquestionably the show of the weekend takes place on DAZN live this Saturday night at Wembley. It’s a tremendous card and there’s so much to talk about before the go to the main event press conference.”

Fabio Wardley:

“I always have self-belief in myself regardless of him I’m underdog or the favourite. That doesn’t matter to me. I know what I need to train for. I know what type of opposition I have in front of me, how prepared I need to be, how switched on I need to be from the first minute and first bell. All of those things are things that I’ve gone over 2, 3, 400 times in my head. I’ve just sat there and visualised what I need to do. Whether I’m favourite or not doesn’t matter. It doesn’t put any extra pressure on me. Even just me being here in these situations and on these big cards is a bonus. Like Nathan said, I come from white collar boxing. I first put on a pair of gloves maybe seven years ago now. For me to be in these situations there’s no pressure on me. I know I’ve trained hard, I know I’m fit, I know I’m ready and I know I’ve got the power to end the fight if I need to. I just need to go in there and do my job.”

Nathan Gorman:

“A lot of my friends have a bet and everyone has been sending me messages asking if I’ve seen the latest betting odds. They’re saying they’ll jump on it and it’ll sort their Christmas out. There’s no pressure on me now is there ha. But I’m more than ready. I’ve had a great camp. Everything has been perfect. I do believe that I’m the favourite. I’ve got the experience and no disrespect; I’ve fought the better people. I should be the favourite but at the end of the day the odds are the odds. When we get in the ring on Saturday night it doesn’t matter who the favourite is. It’s only me and him that are going to fight. It doesn’t really matter come Saturday does it.

“I said this about Fabio yesterday in an interview. From where he’s come from to where he is today – white collar background, no amateur experience, he’s fighting for the Heavyweight British Title. That’s an achievement in itself. But I’ve been doing this since I can remember. I know Fabio transitioned into boxing quite late – I think he was 18 or 19 or something like that. I’ve been doing this since I was 6 or 7 years of age. I turned over at 18 years of age. This is my second time fighting for the British Title and it’s fight 21 for me. I’ve shared the ring with some good opposition.

“Most definitely it’s a must-win fight for me. The British Title is the most prestigious belt out there. I win this Saturday night the domestically I think, not just worldwide – domestically the Heavyweight scene is the best it has ever been so there’s some fantastic fights that can be made there. My full concentration is on Fabio though.”

Nisse Sauerland:

“First off thanks Eddie, thanks Matchroom and thanks DAZN. It’s a great fight to be part of. It is a 50-50 fight, I would say Nathan is the favourite but I think it’s three to one odds online today for Nathan to win which in my head is completely crazy. If anyone wants to make a bit of money on payday lump on that. As far as Nathan goes it’s hard to believe that he’s only 26-years-old. He seems to have been around for forever. I think this has come at the right time for him. He’s had a great camp – he’ll tell you about that in a minute. If you listen to Nathan’s story around the Daniel Dubois fight and what happened there and how it all fell apart – I know in boxing you hear every single excuse but if you hear this man’s excuse for that fight then you’ll understand. This fight everything has gone perfectly. He’s back in a great frame of mind. I haven’t seen him like this in a while. He’s very relaxed and he’s ready to go. I think it’s a 50-50 fight – obviously I favour Nathan. I just thought the odds were a bit mad.”

Ricards Bolotniks:

“Hello everyone. I hope everything is alright with Craig Richards because he wasn’t there yesterday and he isn’t here today. I hope we will have a fight on Saturday, I am ready. Everything is alright. England – hi. Eddie Hearn thank you very much for giving me a chance to come here and fight on the same card with the big guys.”

Pat McCormack:

“Finally I’m on the big stage. This is where I feel like I belong. I’ve dreamed of fighting for Matchroom and I just can’t wait to get in there on Saturday night. I’ve boxed all over the world. Everyone in boxing knows how good I am and what I’ve achieved – now it’s time to show all of the public and all of the fans at home how good I am. That’s what it’s all about. It’s all about getting that experience in. I haven’t gone back to the corner yet as a pro so I could do with a few rounds on Saturday to show everyone what me and my coach Ben Davison have been working on in the gym day in and day out. I’m ready to shine on Saturday. As an amateur it’s a lot different. There’s only three rounds. As a pro it’s 12 rounds – you need to live the life and do everything right otherwise you’re just going to get found out. I’m ready to put it all in and win some titles hopefully next year – a British Title or something and push on from there, keep climbing the ladder until I reach the top.”

Christian Nicols Andino:

“So first and foremost I want to say thank you very much. It’s great to be on such an important card as this against such a great prospect. I know he’s got some great amateur experience and now he’s moving into the professional field but I’m also someone who has a lot of experience. I want to come here and be a problem for him. I’ve studied my opponent and I very much want to be a problem for him. I want to be the ‘Grinch’ at Christmas for him.”

Sandy Ryan:

“She’s a two-time World Champion and she’s been in the ring with the likes of Chantelle Cameron, Katie Taylor, Jessica McCaskill and gone the distance. She’s no pushover and no walkover and I understand that, but you know that I’ll take any fight. As soon as you put this girl forward, I said yes, we’ll take it. The way I carry myself now is completely different. I don’t see her beating me. I’m here for the long run. Any woman can get it. All of my focus is on Saturday. I can’t take any fight lightly after what happened early on in my career. All focus on Saturday but next year is going to be a very big year and there’s some very big fights to be made.”

Anahi Ester Sanchez:

“Thank you very much for the opportunity. I’ve been in some big fights as you said. This is a new opportunity against Sandy Ryan. I’ve prepared for the fight as I always do – really well. As you say I’ve got some great experience behind me – the fights I’ve had against McCaskill, Taylor and other top fighters. On those occasions it didn’t go my way on the night but I’m prepared for this to be my night against Sandy Ryan on Saturday.”

Cheavon Clarke:

“It’s been good so far. I wasn’t one of the guys that medalled at the Olympics so people didn’t get to see my skills etc but with the Matchroom and DAZN platform people are starting to see it now. You said my opponent has faced all of those guys – yeah that’s all good but he hasn’t faced me yet. We’re going to have fun on Saturday night. I think I’ve done alright so far. As you said I’ve had my chin checked. I’ve got skills, I can box, I can fight and I think people will see that as we go along. As my coach picks them and you pick them I’ll fight them. I don’t look too far ahead. I just handle what I’ve got in front of me and people will see as we go.”

Mark Dickinson:

“I think it’s a very good opportunity for me to make a statement at the weekend. As you just heard, he gave a good account of himself against an Olympic Gold Medallist. I haven’t been chasing those amateur medals. The last two years I’ve been a professional and I think you’re going to see how much of an exciting prospect I am on Saturday night when I make a statement. I don’t feel like I should be held back. I think I’ll be better when the longer rounds come in. I’m training in the gym to be a 12-round fighter. I don’t train for six rounders. I can’t wait to show it.”

Gideon Onyenani:

“Yeah exactly. It’s a good opportunity to fight the top fighters. I like to test myself. I’m excited about the opportunity and the best thing is to fight the best fighters. I think that’s how I’ll progress in my career. Me not having amateur experience, when my coach told me that the fight was available, I think we had two weeks’ notice but straight away we were on it. We went for it for the experience. We weren’t bothered about taking a loss. We wanted to get a win but we didn’t get that but it was a good experience. I felt alright in there. I didn’t feel too outclassed or anything. I felt like I could hold my own. I’m excited for another tough fight with Mark Dickinson. With Mark’s style and my style I think it will go well for a good fight. He doesn’t want an easy fight on his Matchroom debut and I don’t want easy fights. I think it will be a really entertaining fight.”

George Liddard:

“Thank you for the opportunity. I’m really excited and I just can’t wait to get in there now. Obviously I was meant to fight last month but I had to wait. Now it’s my time. It’s amazing having that experience around me in the gym, feeding off all of the experience they have. It’s invaluable. The sparring is amazing – I just feel myself getting better and better week after week. It’s going to put me in good stead for the future.”

Thomas Carty:

“Thanks for the opportunity. I’m delighted to be here and I’m delighted to be taking part in such a big card. Like you said it’s looking like Katie is going to be headlining at Croke Park. I look out of my front window of my house and I can see the side of Croke Park. It’ll be an historic night and I’m delighted to be kept busy up until then. Roll on Saturday night and roll on 2023.”

DILLIAN WHYTE RETURNS AGAINST JERMAINE FRANKLIN AT THE OVO ARENA, WEMBLEY ON NOVEMBER 26

Dillian Whyte will face undefeated American contender Jermaine Franklin on his highly anticipated return to the ring on Saturday November 26 at the OVO Arena, Wembley, live worldwide on DAZN.

‘The Body Snatcher’ (28-3, 19 KOs) fell short in his challenge for Tyson Fury’s WBC Heavyweight World Title at Wembley Stadium in April, succumbing to a sixth-round stoppage defeat in front of over 90,000 fans.

Brixton’s big-hitting former Interim WBC Heavyweight World Champion, 35, is set to fight at the OVO Arena, Wembley for the first time in his career as he looks to kickstart his journey towards a second shot at world honours.

Michigan’s Franklin (21-0, 14 KOs) is unbeaten in 21 fights since joining the professional ranks in April 2015 and the 28-year-old will be fighting outside of the USA for the first time in his professional career when he meets Whyte over 12 rounds in London.

Once described as America’s next Heavyweight hope, Franklin ended a two-and-a-half-year layoff by stopping Houston’s Rodney Moore in five rounds at McBride Hall in Gary, Indiana in May to extend his perfect record.

An action-packed undercard sees fast-rising Ipswich Heavyweight Fabio Wardley (14-0, 13 KOs) clash with Nantwhich’s Nathan Gorman (19-1, 13 KOs) for the vacant British Title, former WBA Light-Heavyweight World Title challenger Craig Richards (17-3-1, 10 KOs) take on Latvian warrior Ricards Bolotniks (19-6-1, 8 KOs) in an exciting match-up at 175lbs and Derby’s Sandy Ryan (4-1, 2 KOs) challenge Mexico’s Magali Rodriguez (20-6-2, 9 KOs) for her WBC Silver Super-Lightweight Title.

Wardley, 27, stopped Simon Vallily in three rounds of their hotly anticipated grudge match to pick up the vacant English Title at Fight Camp in August 2020 before blitzing Nick Webb inside one round to retain the belt a year later at Matchroom’s HQ in Essex.

Gorman, whose only loss came at the hands of Daniel Dubois back in July 2019, dusted off 15 months of ringrust in his last fight in June, bulldozing through Tomas Salek in just 81 seconds to win the IBF Intercontinental Title at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool.

Crystal Palace’s Richards put in a spirited display as he pushed WBA Champion Dmitry Bivol all the way in his first World Title attempt in May 2021. ‘Spider’ returned to winning ways by impressively stopping Marek Matyja in six rounds before being outpointed by South London rival Joshua Buatsi at The O2 earlier this year.

Bolotniks, who holds wins over Steven Ward and Hosea Burton, will be familiar to UK fight fans following his brave battle with Olympic Bronze Medallist Buatsi at Matchroom’s second instalment of Fight Camp last summer – where he was eventually stopped in the eleventh round of their WBA International Title clash.

Former Team GB star Ryan goes for her second title in the pro ranks after exacting revenge over Erica Anabella Farias – the only woman to beat her – at the Sheffield Arena in August to pick up the vacant WBC International Super-Lightweight Title.

“It’s great to be back, doing what I love doing,” said Whyte. “I can’t wait to get into the ring and show the world that when push comes to shove I can get right back up in Wembley and remind everyone why I was WBC number one for over four years.

“As an undefeated Heavyweight, Franklin is a dangerous guy but I’m going to teach him quite a few lessons at the OVO on November 26. Most importantly, I’m going to teach him how to lose.”

“I’m super hyped to fight in the UK,” said Franklin. “They love boxing and I plan on making a statement when I beat Dillian. I want them to be loud and love my boxing style and have them embrace me as the people’s champ. The world will see the real Jermaine Franklin Jr.

“Dillian is a warrior. He has heart and he’s been with the best. It’s time for him to step aside and let the ‘989 Assassin’ make him body number 22 on my body count. The kind of fight I expect is a brawl. Dillian wants to prove he’s got something left in the tank. I want to show him I’m the future of boxing and for USA Heavyweights.

“When I beat Dillian I want this victory to be followed with a title shot or a major fight to take me to the title. I’m like Holyfield. I’m a warrior. I’m from the hood. You have to take my heart and that will never happen in the ring. I have speed and power. I have no problem taking a punch to land my own. I am America’s next Heavyweight Champion.”

“I’m buzzing to be fighting for the British Title, I’ve had my eyes set on this belt for so long and I can’t wait to get my hands on it,” said Wardley. “Nathan Gorman’s a good fighter, but nothing is going to stop me from checking off this next milestone of my career. I thrive under the pressure of big fights like this, I live for it, there’ll be no better feeling than standing over him with my hand raised. I take my opportunities when they come, I’m not going to need any second chances like he did.

“I’ve never trained harder, I’ve never been fitter, it’s like the stars have aligned for this camp and everything is coming together perfectly. I’ve come on leaps and bounds with the new addition to my coaching team and I’m technically improving every day. That mixed with my natural athleticism and serious KO power, there’s nothing Nathan can bring to stop me.”

“It’s my second opportunity fighting for the British Title, so I’ve got to take it with both hands and this time it isn’t going anywhere other than back home with me,” said Gorman. “It’s against Fabio Wardley, and I know I’ll be facing the best Wardley that has ever entered that ring. Unfortunately for him, that will be met with the best Nathan Gorman, who is improving every second he spends in that gym.

“The thing I have that he doesn’t possess is the experience. I’ve already been in there with tougher questions that I have come through and answered, whereas I’m his acid test. It’ll be interesting if he lasts longer than rounds 5 or 6, he has a cut eye, and things aren’t going his way. He isn’t going to be able to match what I bring.”

“I’m delighted to welcome one of the biggest stars in Heavyweight boxing Dillian Whyte to the DAZN platform,” said Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn. “The Body Snatcher is hungrier than ever after falling short in his first ever World Title challenge earlier this year and he’s jumping straight back in at the deep end against a young and dangerous fighter in Jermaine Franklin. Expect Maximum Violence in an England vs. USA main event.

“We’ve got an incredible undercard in store for you at the OVO Arena, Wembley on November 26 including the vacant British Heavyweight Title clash between Fabio Wardley and Nathan Gorman, a brilliant match-up at 175lbs between former World Title challenger Craig Richards and Ricards Bolotniks and Sandy Ryan going for another title against tough Mexican Magali Rodriguez. Catch it all live worldwide on DAZN.”

“Nathan has made a fantastic comeback this year having had 18-months out, with the quick capture of an IBF Title being proof of that,” said Wasserman’s Head of Global Boxing, Kalle Sauerland

“Of course, the British Heavyweight Championship is one of the most respected titles in boxing and will propel him on to the world stage even further. We’re very confident Nathan will get the job done on November 26 and set up a HUGE 2023.”

“We are incredibly excited to welcome Dillian Whyte, one of the biggest names in Heavyweight boxing, to the platform on November 26,” said Joseph Markowski, CEO DAZN North America. “Jermaine Franklin will be a tough test for Dillian with the fight topping a stacked card full of action-packed matchups including Wardley vs. Gorman, Richards vs. Bolotniks and of course a future star in Sandy Ryan. Do not miss this fight! Live and exclusive and part of your DAZN subscription worldwide.”

Ticket details will be released shortly.

GORMAN WINS IBF BELT IN EXPLOSIVE FASHION

Nathan Gorman powered his way to the IBF International Heavyweight Championship as he twice downed his opponent in a punishing first-round stoppage of Tomas Salek at the M&S Bank Arena on Friday June 17, live on Channel 5. Stoppages were the theme of the main card as ‘Pretty Boy’ Josh Kelly reminded everyone of his class and technical ability in a fourth-round TKO victory over the Hungary’s Peter Kramer.

With his name upon the banners, Nathan Gorman did not disappoint the Channel 5 audience and all those in attendance at the M&S Bank Arena on a fantastic Wasserman Boxing fight night. Gorman had a job to do after 15 months out of the ring, but had clearly been working on all the physical and technical aspects of his game to overwhelm is Czech opponent.

The pressure on Gorman intensified as his cousin and WBC Heavyweight king, Tyson Fury, entered the arena in typically flamboyant style. ‘The Gypsy King’ would not be left disappointed, as all of the improvements made by Gorman left Tomas Salek stunned once the first heavy blow had been thrown.

After applying pressure from the first bell, Salek got caught with a heavy shot to meet the canvas a little earlier than planned. The referees count was reluctantly met by the Czech Heavyweight champion, only for Gorman to scythe him down once more with another brutal punch.

“It’s been a fantastic night,” said Gorman. “What a way to come back to the boxing ring.”

“Tomas Salek has only lost to good fighters, but I think I’m the only one to do it in that impressive style. I’m really happy and really pleased with it, live on Channel 5 as well so hopefully there were plenty of happy people watching.”

“It’s now about being active. I’m only 25-years-old, but I want to keep pushing on and hunting for them titles. There’s a hell of a long career ahead of me yet, and there’s big things to come.”

The wait was finally over as the Liverpool crowd stood to cheer Josh Kelly back to the squared circle for the first time in over a year. The fluid and natural boxing that Kelly has been renowned for showed no sign of rust as the Sunderland man looked even more focused and spiteful than he had previously.

His opponent, Peter Kramer, had shown up to become a banana skin and use his durability and experience to spoil the party. This was not the case, as Kelly wore the Hungarian down with a blend of speed, movement and some hard-hitting uppercuts that inevitably saw the referee wave off proceedings in the fourth round.

“Nothing ever replicates fight night – training for it, travelling away to arenas, preparing in the changing rooms. Nothing replicates it,” said Kelly.

“Round after round, I could feel myself getting sharper and I started reading him a lot better. I wanted to put a statement out there with my jab, and it worked well tonight to break him down to the point he started taking a few too many shots.”

“I was saying to Adam (Booth) that I’m going to land a right-uppercut on this guy. When they started landing and doing the job, I thought if he’s going to just sit there and take it then I’m just going to keep giving it to him.”

“He goes the distance with heavier guys normally, like Super-Middleweights. To hurt him, and make him physically shaken, shows what strength and power I carry at 154lbs.”

Chloe Watson avoided any slip-up in her homecoming fight, as the city of Liverpool cheered her on to victory. Watson’s opponent, El Bousairi, had been described as a very game opponent all week and someone to push the young fighter. It was an accomplished performance that saw Watson get over the line with a 59-56 points win.

Elsewhere on the card, it was a successful debut for Aaron Chalmers as he passed the test with a 39-37 points victory over Alexander Zeledon. There were plenty of signs to show the potential of Chalmers and his entry into the sport, with the former Geordie Shore star looking comfortable in heavier gloves having swapped the cage for ropes.

IBF CHAMPIONSHIP ANNOUNCED FOR GORMAN VS. SALEK ON FRIDAY JUNE 17 IN LIVERPOOL

The final pre-fight words have been exchanged ahead of a huge night of free-to-air boxing live from the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool on Friday night on Channel 5

Nathan Gorman (18-1, 12 KOs) and Josh Kelly (10-1-1, 6 KOs) have both promised statement wins as they return to action as part of a huge night of free-to-air boxing on Friday night at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool live from 9pm on Channel 5.

The IBF International Heavyweight Championship will be the incentive for both fighters, as Gorman (18-1, 12 KOs) faces the Heavyweight king of the Czech Republic, Tomas Salek (17-3, 13 KOs) on Friday June 17. The winner can also claim a one-way ticket to the top 15 of this division, and take this opportunity to make new waves amongst the most dangerous men on the planet.

Nathan Gorman

“I’m feeling great to be honest, one of the best camps I’ve ever had. There’s no excuses, I’ve left no stone unturned for this one. I walk through the press conference doors today and could see my big face everywhere on the backdrops, live on Channel 5, I’m living the dream. An unbelievable feeling really, and I’m just excited for Friday night.”

“I believe this is Nathan Gorman’s time. I can go back 300 or 400 years of fighting heritage within my family. I believe I’m here fighting for a reason, and everyone will be able to see that reason come Friday night.”

“I have had a brief period away from the ring, but I’m only 25 years old and I have a long career ahead of me. It has been 15 months out of the ring, but I’ve spent those 15 months grafting hard, perfecting my boxing skills day in, day out. Like I said before, there’s no excuses. When I walk out of the M&S Bank Arena come Friday, every box has been ticked.”

“To me, boxing is my job and it’s a job that needs doing. I’m calm now, but come fight time I become a different person. I speak for all the fighters here when I say we all have our different routines of how they approach the fight, but I just like to relax with my team up until we hit that arena. It’s game on when we arrive, hands wrapped, and it’s go time.”

“Being Live on Channel 5 is amazing, especially off the back of the previous show pulling in one million viewers. It’s a heavyweight bout, we’re both big punchers representing this card, ideally we want to be bumping them figures up even more! Tomas Salek is a very credible opponent – he’s young, he’s ambitious, and he’s coming off two good wins. He’s here to win, and to win that title to push into the top 15 of the world rankings. If anything happens in the future for the world titles, we could be getting phone calls to step in. That’s how seriously I see this fight for me and for my opponent. I wish it was tonight so we could get it on.”

“Tune in and expect a big win.”

Tomas Salek

“I feel amazing, and I hope you’re all looking forward to this fight. I’m looking forward to fighting for this title.”

“I’m not solely reliant on my punching power. I’ve prepared for all the ways this fight could go, and the focus will be on me performing to my best.”

“This fight will end however it is supposed to end on Friday night.”

Liverpool hosts the return of “Pretty Boy” Josh Kelly (10-1-1, 6 KOs), and the Sunderland man will face the 32-year-old Hungarian Peter Kramer (12-5-3, 8 KOs) in Liverpool on June 17 as Wasserman Boxing presents another huge night of free-to-air terrestrial television action.

Josh Kelly

“I can’t wait to be live on Channel 5 and competing in the city of Liverpool. The arena is somewhere where I’ve boxed before, I know how good the Liverpool crowd are, so I can’t wait to put a performance on and show off my skills.”

“After the disappointing issue with my opponent in London, I just locked in to this one. I just told myself that there’s 5 weeks until the Liverpool card so just keep working hard in the gym, keep sparring, and keep everything ready – that’s exactly what I did. I believe in myself and I believe that I am one of the best, so I just need to prove it on the night and I’m sure I will.”

“Peter is a good, experienced operator. I believe I’m going to be too fit, too strong, too prepared and too fast for him. I’m going to put him in deep water before he even realises.”

“My prediction? A big win, that’s it.”

Peter Kramer

“First of all, I’d like to greet everyone who is here today. I know of Josh Kelly, and I’m very happy to be here in the UK, this is my fifth time fighting here. I’m very appreciative for this opportunity and very aware of the opportunity. I respect that this fight will be against a very prominent opponent that Josh Kelly is, but I’ll be doing everything I can in the ring to win. We’ll see what happens on fight night.”

“Like any fighter, I’ll be relying on my heart first and foremost. I’ve been preparing hard for this, and I’m fit and ready to perform. If I combine my heart, my preparation and my conditioning – I give myself a good chance of taking a big win back to Hungary.”

An action packed undercard features the homecoming for one of Liverpool’s hottest young prospects as Chloe Watson (2-0) steps up in competition to face Fara El Bousairi (4-2, 1 KO) in front of her home fans. This stacked card also features the professional debut of former reality television and MMA star Aaron Chalmers, who will be looking to enter the boxing scene with a bang at the M&S Bank Arena this Friday, June 17.

Chloe Watson

“I feel nerves and excitement coming in to any fight – even more so when it’s going to be in Liverpool. It’s good though. It was mentioned before, what makes Liverpool such a great fighting city? I can say first hand that it is the people. The amount of people that support me and get behind me is the reason I am where I am today. The reason why I’ve pushed to get where I’m going to get to is because of people like my dad and all those who back me. The fighting city of Liverpool pushes me to get to where I want to be.”

“It’s going to be a competitive fight, but it’s what I’m used to. I boxed with Team GB for 3 years, and ever since I was 15 I have been boxing for England. I’m used to competitive fights, they excite me. This is one of them fights, I’m excited and look forward to putting on a good performance.“

“Working with Ricky (Hatton) has been great. I’ve been lucky enough to be alongside him as he goes on this new journey. It’s very inspirational as he did just flick the switch, and you can see from the weight loss that he’s not messing about. He has been in the gym, he has been dieting, he has been training. It’s good to see that winning mentality, it never goes, it’s always with him.”

“It’s definitely inspired me for this camp for sure. Being in his presence, even before him getting back into training, it’s just a great environment to be in and everything is on the up.”

Aaron Chalmers

“I’ve been excited mate. It has been a long time coming. I’ve had a few setbacks with injuries and other things – but now feels like the right time and what better place to start than Liverpool. It’s like Newcastle; they like football, drinking and boxing. So it’s a great place to start.”

“When I went to Adam (Booth) about 22 months ago I started fresh. For the first 6 months I was just jabbing so I’ve got the perfect jab. I’ve spent the time grafting my arse off away from my family and my mrs to chase the dream. It’s been 22 months in the making so come fight night I’ll be excited to go out there and put on a show.”

“Lets take care of Friday first before I start making future plans. It’s going to be a quick two years for me – but I want to try and succeed and do everything I can. Lets get the job done Friday and we can go again.”

Promoter Kalle Sauerland has praised Liverpool in the build up to this fight on more than one occasion. The Head of Global Boxing had expressed his delight at the successes of the London show, and cannot wait to see what this great fighting city has to offer.

Kalle Sauerland

“There’s always a spring in my step coming off the train when I arrive in Liverpool. I’ve got more friends in Liverpool than I have in London, that’s not saying much but it speaks volumes of the people here. It’s a fantastic city to promote in, it’s a fantastic fight town. A true fight town. It’s been a few years since we’ve had a fight here, the last time was with the Boxing Super Series, and now we’re bringing the heavyweights. Headlining this time is Nathan Gorman, with Josh Kelly out to make a statement on his return too.”

“For us at Wasserman Boxing it’s all about the boxing, we’re in Australia next week and we’re looking to push for 25 or 30 events this year. The most fantastic thing was that last show. After all the effort that went into the fights, with some true warrior performances on show, it was truly satisfying to get a message from the Head of Sport from Channel 5 messaging to inform me that we’d cracked the million-viewer figure on the Friday night. That’s what we want to be doing. All the girls and guys have gone through terrific camps, they go through blood, sweat and tears, as well as their fantastic teams and trainers; it’s exceptional. To have that rewarded with, not just a few thousand viewers, but with a million viewers is something very special.”

“Linus and Denzel were not yet household names when they fought in London, but people saw the quality on show and opted to stay tuned and watched the fight. We want to keep attracting new fans of the sport who are not yet opting to watch boxing on other platforms. Airing boxing here in the UK, it’s an opportunity we are grasping with both hands; it’s every promoter’s dream. We’re hoping Saturday night for the fighters to seize their chance and take full advantage of being seen.”

IBF CHAMPIONSHIP ANNOUNCED FOR GORMAN VS. SALEK ON FRIDAY JUNE 17 IN LIVERPOOL

Nathan Gorman (18-1, 12 KOs) will not only be fighting for the honour that his fighting heritage demands, but also for the IBF International Heavyweight Championship title when he faces Tomas Salek (17-3, 13 KOs) on Friday June 17 as part of a huge night of free-to-air boxing at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, live on Channel 5.

With his cousin Tyson Fury, and being great-nephew to the bare-knuckle fighting phenomenon Bartley Gorman, fighting is clearly in his blood. This does not act as pressure for Nathan Gorman, but a welcomed opportunity to continue the Gorman name being carried on to future successes.

“I do come off a long bloodline of fighters. I can go back maybe two or three hundred years to my great great grandfather, all the way to me at this present time. The last bare knuckle in our family was Bartley Gorman which everyone already knows of, he’s very famous throughout Britain.

“It’s good that his legacy lives on, and I’m happy to be a part of it and happy to have this surname. Hopefully I can bring it into the boxing ring and take it to the world title stage.”

Not only is it the past of this fighting family that spurs him on, but the support of present-day members. After Gorman’s loss to Daniel Dubois in 2019 it was his cousin, the current WBC and The Ring magazine champion, Tyson Fury who came to his aid.

“He (Tyson) rang me a day or two after the fight and said ‘It’s boxing, one punch can change everything in the heavyweight division. It’s not how you go down, it’s how you bounce back up and keep going forward and keep progressing – it’s all experience,’” said Gorman.

“I took a long time out of the ring; I needed to find myself, regroup myself, and change a lot of things around me. Here we are today, I’m headlining my own show in the next few weeks so it doesn’t get any better.”

The addition of the IBF International Heavyweight Championship title has welcomed a new level of incentive for both fighters. Gorman has never denied his ambitions when it comes to fighting for world titles, and this is a step in the right direction to make them dreams a reality.

“I’m topping my own show, then I got this news confirmed that I’m fighting for the IBF belt, absolutely fantastic. Live on Channel 5, and fighting for a very well-known ranked belt. I imagine a few things have changed for both me and Tomas Salek now – there are more marbles on the line here now.

“Winning the title and pushing within that top 10 in the world, and the way heavyweight boxing is booming at the minute excites me for the fantastic fights that can be made there. It’s following the right path to where I want to be, and hopefully fighting for a world title in the years to come.”

Ahead of this huge heavyweight clash, made bigger now the IBF strap is on the line, this opportunity is not only big for Gorman but even bigger for his opponent Tomas Salek. It is a genuine chance for the Czech fighter to try an derail Gorman in his home nation.

“Tomas Salek is a really good, really sound, boxer and is coming off the back of two good wins as well as being the champion of his country,” said Gorman.

“He’ll be looking at this like he’s headlining a big show, on Channel 5 in front of a huge viewing audience, and potentially able to put himself in the driving seat to get another massive fight. I am expecting the best Tomas Salek, and I know I’ll get that, but he’s also getting the best Nathan Gorman.”

With fight week commencing, it is all business. Gorman happy to acknowledge the abilities of the man standing in his way for title glory. Alongside this appreciation, it is still strictly business, with the English fighter ready to produce a performance to wow the Chanel 5 audience and all those in attendance.

“Expect a boxing show, fireworks. Tomas Salek doesn’t take a backwards step, so I’m expecting a real good fight. This isn’t going the distance.”

Heavyweights collide as Nathan Gorman (18-1, 12 KOs) takes on Tomas Salek (17-3, 13 KOs) as part of a huge night of free-to-air boxing on Friday June 17 at the M&S Bank Arena‘Pretty Boy’ Josh Kelly (10-1-1, 6 KOs) also features alongside the professional debut of Aaron Chalmers and former Team GB fighter Chloe Watson (2-0) as she continues her undefeated start as a professional under the tutelage of Ricky Hatton, fighting over 6 rounds in the Flyweight division against Fara El Bousairi (5-2, 1 KO). HEAVYWEIGHTS COLLIDE AS GORMAN VS. SALEK HEADLINES HUGE NIGHT OF BOXING ON JUNE 17 IN LIVERPOOL LIVE AND FREE ON CHANNEL 5

Nathan Gorman (18-1, 12 KOs) returns under the bright lights to headline an action-packed night of free-to-air boxing on June 17 at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, promoted by Wasserman Boxing live on Channel 5 in association with William HillNuman and Infinitum Entertainment.

The hard-hitting heavyweight will face off against a confident Czech, Tomas Salek (17-3, 13 KOs), fresh from defending his national Heavyweight Title and looking to get into a firefight in this guaranteed earth shaker.

It has been over a year since Gorman last graced the ring, and the British power-puncher will be looking to pick up where he left off with a third straight win since his first career loss in 2019. A tremendous response since then, he will be looking to come back with a bang having missed a previous card due to illness.

“I’m coming there to throw the kitchen sink at him and put on a really good display,” said Gorman.

“I was due to fight on the Savannah Marshall show, but unfortunately, I came down with a bad illness. I believe things happen for a reason, and now I’m in a position to put on a good show with Channel 5. I’m just really looking forward to it.”

Standing in the way of a dream return for him will be 23-year-old Salek, who is coming to flex his greater knockout record on Gorman’s home turf. It will be an opportunity for Salek to right the wrongs from his previous appearance in the United Kingdom, and he’ll be insisting he puts on a spectacle to prove he has progressed.

“It is a big opportunity for me,” he said. “This will be my second fight in the United Kingdom, and I truly want to show that I am now much stronger physically, but mostly, much stronger mentally. I want to come back to the Czech Republic with Gorman’s scalp!”

Fans can also look forward to an electric British Super Flyweight Title Eliminator between two physically imposing fighters when ‘The Chosen One’ Marcel Braithwaite (12-3) will be aiming to get his fellow Liverpool faithful on side as he looks to get the better of the experienced former WBA Continental Bantemweight Champion Thomas Essomba (11-7-1, 4 KOs).

The M&S Bank Arena will be rocking when Braithwaite, the newly crowned WBC International Silver Super Flyweight champion, arrives to seize the spotlight and move towards ticking off more on his boxing bucket list.

“It’s a good fight. It’s perfect fight for where I’m at in my career and it feels like the stepping stone I need for me to get to the British title. That title is one of my ambitions, so I just need to put everything into my preparations to make sure I get there, which I will,” said Braithwaite.

“I’m really excited to have the chance to perform in front of my home crowd at such a great venue. I’ve always wanted to fight there, and that will be reflected in my performance. Everyone has Channel 5 too, I’ll be on two massive stages. It’s my time, and I’ll show that June 17.”

A rejuvenated Essomba comes to crash the Liverpool party off the back of necessary changes to his preparations. Singing all the right notes in the gym, he will be looking to control this fight as the older statesmen and kick on to a British Title.

“I’ve never had the training I have now. It’s the perfect time for me to show all the UK fans that I am a great fighter, and a great boxer. I have good people around me now and I believe in the work I’m putting in. People will see that Thomas Essomba deserves to be a British Champion, and maybe even more than that. For now, I’m only focused on the British Title. I know Marcel is a good fighter, and I respect him, but I am better.”

The card will also feature former Team GB fighter Chloe Watson, alongside the undefeated Paddy LaceyMason ‘Nutty’ Cartwright and heavyweight giant ‘Magic’Matty Harris. All live on Channel 5, as Wasserman Boxing presents yet another lively night of world-class boxing.

“The free-to-air revolution continues on June 17 as we head to the fantastic fight city of Liverpool for another outstanding night of boxing live on Channel 5,” said Wasserman Head of Global Boxing, Kalle Sauerland. “This time we have the big boys in action. Nathan Gorman is from fighting stock. He is an exceptional talent who we believe can go all the way. He faces a tough test in what should be a fan friendly affair against the big punching Tomas Salek. Alongside this exciting heavyweight attraction we will have an abundance of local talent showcasing their skills in front of the what I expect will be a lively audience at M&S Bank Arena.”

GORMAN TARGETS STATEMENT WIN AS HE RETURNS TO THE RING AGAINST ALEXANDER ON APRIL 2 IN NEWCASTLE

Nathan Gorman (18-1, 12 KOs) is back in action as he looks to kick-start his promising career with a statement win against Scott Alexander (16-4-2, 8 KOs) on April 2 at the Utilita Arena Newcastle.

Having signed promotional terms with Wasserman Boxing, the Nantwich Heavyweight will return to the ring for the first time in over a year following a TKO win over Pavel Sour at London’s Copper Box Arena on March 27, 2021.

The 25-year-old is now looking forward to a period of activity as he targets domestic titles and world rankings, starting with a tough test in the North East against 32-year-old LA-native Alexander, who has previously gone the distance with Heavyweight contenders Carlos Negron and Travis Kaufmann.

“I’ve been out of the ring for a year so I can’t wait to get back out under the lights,” said Gorman. “It’s an exciting time for me. I’ve got a big brand backing me in Wasserman and I’m fighting on a huge platform with Sky Sports. This is a new adventure for me and I can’t wait to get started.

“Scott Alexander is a decent opponent. He’s been in there with some good names, and he’s never been stopped. If I give a good performance and get the stoppage that will send a statement to the Heavyweight division.”

“I’m focused, ready, and excited to fight in the UK, they have great fans and an amazing atmosphere,” said Alexander. “I’m grateful for the opportunity and I’m looking forward to showcasing my skills to the boxing world and demonstrating that I belong in there with the best in the Heavyweight division.”

Gorman will be fighting as part of an action-packed event in Newcastle co-promoted by Wasserman Boxing and Boxxer and shown live on Sky Sports.

Savannah Marshall tops the bill with a defence of her WBO World Female Middleweight Title against former World Champion Femke Hermans. Also confirmed for Newcastle is Florian Marku in a key domestic encounter with former British and Commonwealth Champion Chris Jenkins. Plus, Tyneside legend Aaron Chalmers, who will be making his professional debut.

Kalle Sauerland, Head of Global Boxing at Wasserman, said: “Nathan Gorman is a fantastic addition to what promises to be a stacked card at the Utilita Arena Newcastle on April 2. Nathan is without a doubt one the most exciting British Heavyweight talents out there, and at just 25 years of age, he has a massive future ahead of him. Fighting on Sky Sports will provide him with the perfect platform to showcase his skills against a tough opponent like Scott Alexander. Expect fireworks when these two Heavyweights meet in the ring!”

Adam Smith, Head of Boxing Development at Sky Sports, said, “We are thrilled to be returning to the North East where there is such a passionate and growing  fan base for Savannah Marshall…..as she aims to successfully defend her WBO Middleweight crown against former World champion Femke Hermans.  Can Sav keep the mega match with arch rival Claressa Shields on track?!  After THE GWOAT’s excellent display and those fireworks ringside in Cardiff  – that unification is HUGE! No doubt Claressa will be back in the UK to see Savannah in April!  Add to that the hugely popular Florian Marku in a real test against Chris Jenkins and we will have a night to remember on Sky Sports in Newcastle!  Excellent to have heavyweight action on the big show – as Britain’s Nathan Gorman tackles America’s Scott Alexander. At just 25 and with 18 of 19 wins – this is a key night for Nathan!”

Ben Shalom, BOXXER founder and CEO, commented, “We can’t wait to return to the Utilita Arena on April 2 and feel the incredible atmosphere and buzz of the Newcastle fans. This is a crucial fight for Marshall – she has to beat the dangerous Femke to secure the ultimate showdown with Claressa Shields. Last time it was a really special night with Marshall’s incredible win.  When the Utilita became available we knew that we wanted Savannah to headline a big arena on a big show and we’re returning with a great card featuring Marku in his first outing on his new contract in a tough fight against Chris Jenkins, plus the immensely popular Chalmers and many more to be announced soon.  We’re looking forward to another massive night in Newcastle.”

GORMAN EYES BRITISH TITLE – ONCE HEAVYWEIGHT LOGJAM CLEARS

NATHAN GORMAN is sweating on Joe Joyce helping him achieve his British Heavyweight title dream.

Joyce who holds the British championship is hoping to fight Oleksandr Usyk or another of the world’s top Heavyweights in his next fight.

He is unlikely to vacate his domestic crown until then. When he does relinquish Gorman (18-1, 12 KOs) is likely to be in line for a second crack at the title.

Gorman, 24, suffered his only professional defeat when he challenged Daniel Dubois for the vacant crown in July 2019.

Frank Warren insisted that the Nantwich man would bounce back from that setback and Gorman has won two on the spin since, repaying his promoter’s faith.

Last October he outpointed Richard Lartey and in March produced one of his most impressive performances stopping Pavel Sour inside two rounds – a win that included FIVE knockdowns.

“I had four days off after my last fight,  got back into the gym and I’m training hard for my next fight,” said Gorman who hopes to return in late June or July on a Queensberry show.

“I’d like to box for the British title, but it all depends what Joe Joyce is doing with the belt.

“If Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua fight, I’d imagine Joe will fight Oleksandr Usyk and vacate the British title.

“I’m guessing that Fabio Wardley and myself would be the most likely candidates to box for it.

“I returned after the long layoff since losing to Daniel and beat Richard Lartey, but since then I have been the most determined ever in my career.”

Gorman split amicably with trainer Ricky Hatton after the Dubois setback because he was finding the 110 mile round trip to Manchester difficult, especially with a young family.

He is now with his old amateur trainer Nathan Clarke and says he is also reaping the benefits from punishing strength and conditioning sessions.

“I have only been doing this type of training for about eight months and it’s really tough. I am still getting used to it.

“I never even took a protein shake before I started strength and conditioning. I am new to this, and it all adds to my performances.

“I am going to weigh about 18-10 going forward. I am never going to be a boxer who is ripped to death, but I am going to put some physique in there.

“You get one go at this and I have to make the most. Right now, I am really pleased with everything and a happy fighter is a dangerous one.”

DAVID ADELEYE HAPPY TO WRECK DAVE ALLEN’S COMEBACK

HEAVYWEIGHT banger David Adeleye insists he is ready to let Dave Allen and Nathan Gorman feel his power.

Adeleye has shown he can pack a punch and knocked out his first five professional opponents in style.

The Notting Hill man is back in action on Saturday (April 24), live on BT Sport.

Adeleye, 24, has oozed potential in his string of wins and is happy to be pushed by promoter Frank Warren who is matching the former ABA Junior and Senior Novices champion well.

Allen is returning to boxing following a short retirement and Gorman is closing in on a second British title shot after suffering his only career defeat against Daniel Dubois.

Adeleye said: “Dave Allen and Nathan Gorman are fights I think I can take. I am confident in myself, I believe in myself and I can beat them.

“Dave would be a good contest for me. He has been in there with some great fighters.

“It would be a good fight and it is one I would take.

“Dave is talking only boxing four or six rounders so I could get to stage that I have gone passed him.

“Credit to Nathan. He is a good fighter and you can see that, but he is someone I believe I can take on.

“I don’t just ask for these fight to say it. If they got made there wouldn’t be a ‘no’ from me.

“My development has been perfect and I know there is no rush, but if it was down to me I would want these fights.”

Four of Adeleye’s wins have come inside two rounds, and usually durable Phil Williams was stopped in three.

“As fights get longer the opposition will be better. I will get more time to break opponents down and box instead of just trying to blast them out,” added Adeleye who studied at the University of Wolverhampton, where he graduated in 2018 with a degree in Business Management.

“There have been opponents who were meant to give me rounds, like Williams. He was tough and I had to do a few things different to get him out of there, but it came together.

“I am disciplined and an all year round fighter. I don’t train in seasons. I always stay ready. After each fight I have a week off and then I’m back in the gym, improving.

“Nothing comes easy. As long as I stay grounded and guided I know I can go all the way.”

He might be in a hurry to make his name in the boxing business, but trainer Frank Greaves ensures Adeleye remains focused.

Adeleye says: “It’s easy to get knocked off your high horse and why I always mention staying disciplined and grounded.

“It must be hard for fighters when they are suddenly earning big money and  having big fights. At the same time, it’s easy because if you want something you stay disciplined.

“I have good people around me who will keep me in check like my family and coach, Frank Greaves.

“I think Frank likes me saying these names. He doesn’t want be with a fighter who doesn’t believe in himself.

“He does the training and might say something on opponents because he knows where I am at, but doesn’t bother when I call someone out.”

Denzel Bentley (14-0-1) vs Felix Cash (13-0) for the British and Commonwealth middleweight titles headlines a bumper night of boxing, live on BT Sport on April 24.

Also on the card, light heavyweight star Callum Johnson (18-1) marks his return to the ring with a battle against the experienced Emil Markic (32-2) for the WBO Global championship.

Other Queensberry prospects besides Adeleye (5-0) on the show are George Davey (3-0), Henry Turner (4-0), James Heneghan (4-0) and Karol Itauma (1-0).

GORMAN WARY OF DANGEROUS LARTEY: “HE’S THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD!”

NATHAN GORMAN BELIEVES that, with a good win under his belt tomorrow, he will be right back in the heavyweight title mix.

The affable giant from Nantwich, 16-1 (11KOs) returns to the ring this weekend at the BT Studios for the first time since suffering a sole career setback against former amateur rival Daniel Dubois at the 02 Arena in July of last year.

Gorman, who was at the time dealing with a multitude of domestic distractions he insisted would not knock him off course, was knocked to the canvas twice with the fight ending on the second in the fifth round.

After a lengthy period on the sidelines he is now back firing on all cylinders and determined to remind people of what he is all about when he takes on the unpredictable Ghanaian Richard Lartey, 14-2 (11KOs) tomorrow night on BT Sport.

Both Gorman and Lartey share the statistic of having Dubois as their last opponent, with Lartey engaging in a firefight with the current British champion before succumbing in the fourth, three months prior to Dubois-Gorman.

At the time, Gorman was dismissive of Dubois’ accomplishment of putting out Lartey’s fire at Wembley Arena.

“Yes I was critical,” said the 24-year-old on the level of Lartey. “But now I am fighting him he is the best thing since sliced bread!

“In all fairness to me I was building the fight with Daniel with what I said at the time but, being sensible, Lartey is a dangerous man, isn’t he? He comes for a fight, as everyone knows, and we also know he hasn’t got on that plane to lie down in the first round.”

Lartey and Dubois famously and ferociously traded bombs on a frequent basis across their four rounds of warfare and Gorman is not against the idea of doing likewise.

“If it comes, it comes. Ideally it is not my thing but sometimes the heart can rule the head. First and foremost I just want to win and that is the main objective. If it takes having a dogfight, knocking him out in the first round or winning hands down on points.

“If the knockout is there I am going to go for it, but winning is the main objective.

“If I do the job on Lartey on Saturday I am back in the mix. He is quite known in Britain and there is interest because it is a good fight. We are both coming off losses to Daniel and some will say he gave him his toughest test to date.

“I haven’t got too much ground to make up and, if I wanted to, I could have just had a six or eight rounder to come back against someone nobody had heard of. Then I heard about the Lartey fight and thought if I beat him and beat him well it puts me in good stead to get back to where I need to be.

“This is a good fight for me. I would imagine the winner out of Daniel and Joe Joyce will push on for a world title and I could fight for a vacant British and, ideally, Commonwealth title.”

Nathan Gorman v Richard Lartey features on a bumper night of action from the BT Studios, with live coverage beginning at 7pm on BT Sport 1 tomorrow night.

Also on the card, Liam Williams defends his British middleweight title against mandatory challenger Andrew Robinson and former amateur world champion Willy Hutchinson continues his professional journey at super middleweight.

Heavy-handed lightweight Mark Chamberlain and super featherweight Muheeb Fazeldin round out the card.

GORMAN vs LARTEY MOVES TO OCTOBER 10

THE HEAVYWEIGHT RETURN of Nathan Gorman against Richard Lartey will now take place on October 10, having been pushed back from its original date of September 12.

The Ghanaian’s medicals have not been supplied in time for him to enter the fighter bubble tomorrow and as such the fight will be moved to the undercard of Liam Williams’ mandatory defence of his British title against Andrew Robinson.

Gorman, 16-1, will now feature on a show that also includes Anthony Cacace defending his British super featherweight title against Lyon Woodstock and the Commonwealth super welterweight title clash between the holder JJ Metcalf and challenger Jack Flatley.

Promoter Frank Warren commented: “Since returning post-lockdown we have always been ready to react to issues as and when they arise. We have been clear that we will always act with fighter and event safety in mind.

It is disappointing that we can’t put on this great fight for fans this weekend, but the show is still an exciting prospect for boxing fans, headlined by the return of Anthony Yarde.

“It is a pity for Nathan that he doesn’t get to fight this weekend, but it is only a short delay to what will be a good fight that will go ahead on another strong card on October 10.”

HUGE SHOW ANNOUNCED FOR SEPTEMBER 12 AS QUEENSBERRY LEVEL-UP

Anthony Yarde vs Dec Spelman, Nathan Gorman vs Richard Lartey, Mark Heffron vs Denzel Bentley and Ekow Essuman vs Cedrick Peynaud have today all been announced for a bumper Queensberry Promotions card on September 12.

Anthony Yarde will take on Dec Spelman, in what will prove an ideal chance to directly compare himself against potential future foe Lyndon Arthur – who last month edged Spelman on points behind-closed-doors.

Yarde challenged for a World Title against Sergey Kovalev in 2019 and has been absent since his Russian mission – where he came within seconds of toppling the legendary champion.

The light heavyweight Beast from the East is now back in business against an opponent who extended Manchester’s Arthur to 12 rounds of work in July. Commenting on the fight on behalf of BT Sport on the night, Yarde complained over a lack of entertainment from the pair and that he needed paying to stay awake.

Yarde will be looking to provide more entertainment on September 12.

Also featuring on what will be a huge night of action is the heavyweight return of Nathan Gorman, 16-1, who will fight Richard Lartey from Ghana (subject to visa approval) in an eliminator for the Commonwealth title. Both have a shared experience of taking on Daniel Dubois, with the 14-2 Lartey engaging in an explosive shootout with the young Londoner before being stopped in four rounds at Wembley Arena in April of last year.

Gorman, just 24, will be seeking to put the domestic heavyweight division on notice that he is back in the fold and in the bidding for major titles once again.

The vacant IBF European welterweight championship will be on the line for English champion Ekow Essuman when he goes in with the Frenchman Cedrick Peynaud. The Paris-based Peynaud took part in two epic struggles against Connor Benn across 2017-18 where both men were put to the canvas and it represents an ideal test for Essuman, who is in the British title mix along with Benn and the champion Chris Jenkins.

In what is a huge fight for the middleweight division in this country, a battle of the big punchers is confirmed between Battersea’s Denzel Bentley (13-0) and Oldham’s Mark Heffron (25-1).

For a fight that surely cannot fail to deliver fireworks, the IBF European title is the prize for the winner between two men who have not been shy in calling each other out across social media.

Promoter Frank Warren – who will also showcase the talents of lightweight Mohammad Bilal Ali on the night, along with new signings Amin Jahanzeb (7-0, featherweight) and Joshua Frankham (debut, super welterweight) – said:

“This is a card with the potential to deliver for the fans watching on BT Sport in a big way.

“Boxing is a game of ego’s and Anthony is keen to show the world that he can go one better than Lyndon and blast Spelman out early.

“Spelman is not an easy fight for anyone, but if Anthony comes through we’ll be on course for Yarde vs Arthur later this year hopefully.”

“I am delighted to be bringing Anthony back because he needs a competitive fight before his big domestic showdown against Lyndon Arthur and he will be determined to do a better job on Dec Spelman than his rival. He has put the onus on himself to find an explosive performance after complaining about Lyndon’s fight with Dec being boring!

“I still firmly believe Anthony is a world-level elite operator and he will prove as much given time but, for now, he needs to keep busy and remind the public of what he is all about.”

Anthony Yarde said:

“The people want explosive action and knockouts so I will not be hiding behind my jab and sending everyone to sleep,” stated the 19-1 man from Ilford.

“This will be all about me reminding people that I am the force of the division and I am heading right back to the top where I intend to dominate and reign for a long time to come.

“I respect Dec Spelman as a fighter but this is the chance for me to show everyone what they can expect when I get to share a ring with Lyndon Arthur.”

Dec Spelman said:

“If Yarde comes to fight then so much the better for me. Lyndon made our fight a technical affair that I was disappointed I couldn’t really get to grips with, so if Yarde wants some action then bring it on.

“I will actually be his first test at domestic level so we will see how he looks on the night.”

GORMAN NOT WRITING OFF JOYCE DESPITE COUSIN FURY’S CONFIDENCE IN DUBOIS

NATHAN GORMAN believes Joe Joyce is capable of upsetting Daniel Dubois in their huge Heavyweight clash, despite what cousin Tyson Fury believes.

Gorman famously felt the power of Dubois, getting knocked out in five rounds, when they met for the vacant British championship last July.

Like the Great British public, Gorman cannot wait for Dubois (14-0, 13 KOs) and Joyce (10-0, 9 KOs) to settle their rivalry at London’s o2 Arena on Saturday April 11, live on BT Sport Box Office.

The winner of the titanic ‘Seek and Destroy’ tussle will close in on world champions Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, as well as banking the British, Commonwealth, European, WBC Silver and WBO International titles.

Gorman, who will return to action on the undercard of Josh Taylor’s Glasgow return on May 2nd said: “It’s an exciting fight.

I think it’s 50-50 and it is wrong that some people appear to be writing off Joyce for this fight.”

He added: “Don’t get me wrong. If Daniel hits him he is going to do some damage, but you have to remember Joyce is 19 stone plus and if he hits Daniel he hurts him.”

Nathan might have lost to Dubois when it mattered in the ring, but he has also sparred plenty of rounds with Joyce over the years.

“Joyce has been competing as a high end amateur, he is 30 plus and a man. He can fight!” said Gorman.

“I sparred with him at David Haye’s gym and also in Sheffield at the Team GB camp. He has come on leaps and bounds. We know about his size, but I was impressed with his strength and workrate for such a huge man. He is very, very fit.

“I’d imagine Joyce might be careful early on, but he is one of those fighters who can also jump all over Daniel, make it awkward and smother his space.”

Gorman has never offered any excuses for his defeat against Dubois, but believes the secret weapon is more than Daniel’s fight ending power.

The Nantwich man holds Daniel’s trainer Martin Bowers in high esteem and added: “I knew how strong Daniel was going into the fight and he does the basics very well – the jab, the 1-2, the 1-2-hook and is good with his feet.

Martin Bowers had a very good game plan and Daniel will need the same from him in this fight coming up.
Credit where it’s due, Martin is a very good trainer.”

In the chief support Ilford’s Anthony Yarde will challenge Manchester’s Commonwealth Light-Heavyweight champion Lyndon Arthur in a brilliant 50-50 clash.

Other fighters on the bill include David Adeleye, Dennis McCann, Archie Sharp and Hamzah Sheeraz. Another title fight on the bill sees a rematch between British Welterweight Champion Chris Jenkins and Johnny Garton.

DANIEL DUBOIS V NATHAN GORMAN FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

HALL OF FAME promoter Frank Warren has held the final press conference for Daniel Dubois (11-0, 10KOs) and Nathan Gorman (16-0, 11KOs) ahead of the unbeaten pair clashing on Saturday night (July 13) for the vacant British heavyweight title at London’s o2 Arena, live on BT Sport. The bitter rivals faced off this afternoon in front of the media at the BT studios in East London. Here are a selection of quotes from today’s press conference.FRANK WARREN

“It is a special fight between two young gladiators who are two of the best heavyweight prospects in the world. Their styles will meet and make it a great fight for the fans.

“I think the winner will go on, in the next 12 months, have four or five fights and push himself towards being a mandatory challenger for a major world title. It is not the end for the loser.

“All the preparation is done and all the stuff they did as amateurs is irrelevant. They are different characters and Daniel is more introverted than Nathan, but it goes out of the window like everything else. It is who will stick to the game plan and who will be more resolute.

“It is going to be a special night for British boxing.

“These two have respect and you don’t need to throw tables.” DANIEL DUBOIS

“It’s been weeks and weeks of hard training and I’m glad it is time to get it on. It is good having the spotlight and being the main event. It’s new and something I look forward to more.

“I am gonna come out in the first round fast, sharp and put it all on the line.

“This is a big difference to our sparring. This is a fight.

“I am a cool guy,  I just minded my own business when I was around Nathan in the amateurs. There are no worries. I have worked hard in the gym, listened and just want to do a job. If the opportunity is there I am going for the knockout.

“Frank Bruno gave me a few tips and it was good having a move around with a gladiator like that. Lennox Lewis has been in touch, but it’s no big deal. It’s all on me although Lennox and Frank have had a big influence on my life and more so on my dad and we always talk about them. MARTIN BOWERS (Daniel’s trainer)

“We always thought this fight would happen, but never talked about when.

“We don’t need to psyche Daniel up because he is a consummate professional.

“It is great being associated with Daniel. He always works, is ready and prepared. If I was a fan I would be excited.

“There is a lot more to both their games and I would be glued to the telly or buying a ticket.

“We have never spoken about any old rivalry with Nathan from when they were on Team GB together. We just focus on going forward. Daniel is diligent. He’s always on time and does everything right. This fight is a credit to British boxing and even more to both boys. The winner will be a champion, but it doesn’t mean the loser wont be.

“We had Frank Bruno come to the gym and see Daniel, but that wont make any difference. It comes down to Nathan and Daniel, and we have the man. NATHAN GORMAN

“Thankfully I was around to see my daughter born at about 5am on Tuesday morning. I prayed for her to come early because she was due on fight day.

“With my little boy, when we found he had a tumour it was ten weeks out and I only had two days off.  Even then I was running in the hospital car park. With the second born my wife is looking after everything.

“There are no excuses. No run has been missed and every session completed. I have never been on it as fully. People are in for a great fight. Our styles meet and we’re in for a big night.

“It’s a big, massive fight and the pressure is on. We were two rivals in the amateurs on Team GB and couldn’t be friends, but we are also completely different personalities.

“Whatever he has we have the answer for. I have been to hell and back. If the knockout is there I am going for it and if I go 12 rounds to win I do.
 RICKY HATTON (Nathan’s trainer)

“It was tricky at the start of the camp. Nathan’s two year old son had a tumour removed from his chest and we were worried. Then, a few days ago his wife had a baby daughter.

“Nathan has been looking forward to this, but these are fights you want to be involved in. There was no hesitation from Nathan in taking this fight and these are the fighters you want to train.

“He wanted this fight before he met me. I don’t know about the history, but I thought Nathan wanted to chin me when I asked who he wanted to fight. There is a spring to his step and nastiness is there. It is fighter v boxer, but he is a Gorman. It is in the genes and he can fight.

“When someone puts it on him he is not found wanting. We are preparing for the toughest fight of our lives. I don’t talk rubbish and I am just honest when I say I think Nathan wins.

“It has been great having Tyson Fury in my gym to see Nathan perform and talk to him. But when it comes to fight night people like me and Tyson are not in the ring.Tickets for ‘Heavy Duty’ featuring Daniel Dubois v Nathan Gorman for the vacant British Heavyweight Title, plus Olympic silver medallist Joe Joyce v Bryant Jennings are on sale now. VIDEO: Press Conference: Daniel Dubois v Nathan Gorman

DUBOIS V GORMAN – EXPERTS HAVE THEIR SAY

BOXING is split over the outcome the vacant British heavyweight title between unbeaten prospects Daniel Dubois (11-0, 10KOs) and Nathan Gorman (16-0, 11KOs) on London’s o2 Arena on Saturday (July 13), live on BT Sport.

Some of the biggest names and prospects in British boxing have given their verdict on the showdown that has got everyone talking. Like most fans, our panel are split.

LYNDON ARTHUR: “It’s a great fight and I have been on Team GB with them both. If Gorman can avoid his punches maybe I go with him, but if he gets hit he goes to sleep. Gorman just.”

BEN DAVISON: “I think it’s a good fight between two upcoming prospects and I think who gets their game plan right and can make those adjustments through the fight will come out on top.

If Daniel gets carried away with the moment and looks for the knockout with Nathan getting under his skin he could play right into Nathan’s hands.”

SUNNY EDWARDS: “The style and skill goes with Nathan, he is a bit sharper. But the power and fitness is with Dubois. If Gorman is conditioned for 12 rounds and Daniel doesn’t get near him then there is only one winner. At heavyweight that is a hard ask so I edge towards Dubois. The winner pushes on and loser comes again.”

CARL FRAMPTON: “Credit to both boys for taking the fight so early in their careers. A loss doesn’t mean the end and I wouldn’t be surprised if they met again. Gorman is slick and a nice mover for a heavyweight, but I just fancy Dubois slightly.”

PETER FURY: “I think this is a 50-50 fight. Both are good young fighters. Gorman needs to get past the first half then the table could really turn into his favour. Dubois holds good power and is so dangerous early on. This is why it’s a 50-50 match up.”

TYSON FURY: “It reminds me of my fight against Dereck Chisora for the British title back in 2011 when we both 14-0. Chisora was higher ranked and more touted than me back then – the same as Dubois over Nathan. Even Frank (Warren) favoured Del boy to beat me and everybody else did. It’s also chubby guy v ripped guy. I fancy Nathan to beat him.”

GEORGE GROVES: “I am happy for this fight because they are both young enough for the loser to rebuild. It’s a good fight for both of them and the winner will go onto something else. They are both willing to put it on the line and it’s a real fight. It is fascinating that they know each other so well and it’s good for them to be in a real fight. Dubois has phenomenal punch power.”

DAVID HAYE: “I don’t know which way it goes, perhaps a draw. It’s a fight I want to be ringside for because both boxers are young and hungry. They have very different styles that will gel nicely. These two fighting is only going to benefit fans.”

ENZO MACCARINELLI: “It is a genuine 50-50. Dubois has the power, but Gorman has lovely skills. I’ve changed my mind so many times. I’m going to sit with Gorman. He has the better all round skills and will stay out of trouble. Saying that. speak to me tomorrow and I will have changed my mind. Great fight and a fantastic card.”

ARCHIE SHARP: “It’s going to be a cracking fight. Daniel Dubois can punch for fun, but I do believe in Nathan Gorman’s ability. For me on pure boxing skills I may have Nathan Gorman edging it on points. I’m just going with Nathan but it’s going to be great.”

JOSH WARRINGTON: “What a fight we have to look forward to – two young, unbeaten prospects, fighting for the British title. It’s going to be fantastic. There are so many different opinions and its got people talking. I am just going with Dubois. He is devastating when he hurts an opponent and I think he could win early.”

LIAM WILLIAMS: “I know in my mind who I think will win, but I like both guys and should respect them. It’s going to be good while it lasts.”

TROY WILLIAMSON: “They are both putting it all on the line and massive respect. I know them really well from Team GB. I have seen them spar many rounds and know what they’re all about. There are a lot of predictions out there and I am not sitting on the fence. I am going for Nathan points or late TKO.”

LOVE ISLAND TOMMY BACKING GORMAN TO EVICT DUBOIS

LOVE ISLAND hunk Tommy Fury reckons it will be a g-lovely night for Nathan Gorman when he faces Daniel Dubois in their heavyweight blockbuster next week.

Dubois (11-0, 10 KOs) and Gorman (16-0, 11 KOs) clash for the vacant British title on Frank Warren’s ‘Heavy Duty’ bill at London’s o2 Arena on Saturday July 13, live on BT Sport.

Fury has found a winner in the villa by coupling up with Molly-Mae, but insists Nantwich’s Gorman will be a knockout in the ring and upset Dubois.

Tommy who is 2-0 as a light heavyweight said: “There is nothing Daniel Dubois does to throw Nathan off.

“I am not just saying it, but I believe it will be an easy fight for Nathan.

“If we’re being serious about it, what does Daniel do? He comes forward one-two and throws a couple of hooks.

“Nathan will become a world champion. Have you ever seen a heavyweight with speed like that before?

“Look what he did to Sean Turner. Sean is a good fighter, but Nathan made it look like it was Sean’s first fight.

“It’s all about levels, especially in the heavyweight division. You can’t just rely on power which a lot of heavyweights do.

“Nathan has got the speed, agility and he can move. For my money Nathan is going all the way 100 per-cent.”

Fury the younger brother of lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, trains alongside Gorman at Ricky Hatton’s gym.

Unless Tommy’s time in Love Island comes to an unexpected end he will not be ringside to cheer on Gorman, a distant relative on his father’s side of the family.

Although he expects Gorman to win the showdown that has split fight fans, he knows that Dubois is capable of landing knockout shots.

He added: “Daniel doesn’t really move his head. He is a basic heavyweight, but he is a big puncher and you have to be cautious.

“You can’t go in there thinking it’s gonna be easy because he can put your lights out in seconds. He is a big man and if you get hit on the chin by anybody over 15 stone you’re going down.

“So what can a big man like that do? You have to be cautious, but I see Nathan winning easily and convincingly.”

GORMAN TOPS FANS POLL

OVER TEN THOUSAND boxing fans participated in a social media survey this week, designed to gather the opinions of the fans on the key attributes of both Daniel Dubois and Nathan Gorman ahead of the British heavyweight title showdown at the o2 Arena on July 13.

Fans were asked to assess the pair across a whole range of specific skills, particular strengths and qualities across the Frank Warren social media channels.

The categories were: Better chin, most heart, speed, inside game, ring IQ, most skilful, best footwork, who hits harder, better stamina and who possesses the stronger jab.

Across the board it was Nathan who found most favour with the fans, averaging 65 per cent of the votes.

In a straight vote of ‘Who do you think will win the fight?’ it was the Ricky Hatton trained heavyweight who again came on top with 57% of the votes.

So, sticking to the theme of the popular promotional trailer, the fans seem to agree that Nathan Gorman is the man to beat Daniel Dubois!

However, it is said that the bookies rarely get it wrong and the pricing of the betting giant 32Red is firmly in the corner of Dubois.

32Red have Dubois as the odds on 4/9 favourite, with Gorman 33/20 against. If you suspect this is going to be a close run thing, the draw is a tempting 20/1.

WARRINGTON AND FRAMPTON UNITED ON DUBOIS V GORMAN

ARCH rivals Josh Warrington and Carl Frampton are joined as one over the big Daniel Dubois v Nathan Gorman showdown.

IBF featherweight champion Warrington won a brutal thriller on points against Frampton and they’re expecting another explosive clash when unbeaten pair Dubois (11-0, 10 KOs) and Gorman (16-0, 11 KOs) clash.

And the pair are unanimous that it’s Dubois who will have his hand raised in victory when the vacant British heavyweight championship is on the line at London’s o2 Arena on Saturday July 13.

“What a fight we have to look forward to when Nathan and Daniel fight,” purred Warrington who recently successfully defended his world crown against Kid Galahad.

Warrington added: “They have two different styles, both big punchers, both prospects and a British title on line – it is going to be fantastic.

“It has got everyone talking and there are so many different opinions. It is 50-50, and I know plenty of people are leaning towards Nathan, but I am going with Dubois.

“He is devastating when he gets an opponent hurt and I think he can win early.”

Former two-weight world champion Frampton returns to action in August and hopes for a crack WBO title holder Oscar Valdez later in the year.

Frampton added:  “All credit to both boys for taking this fight so early in their careers.

“A loss doesn’t mean the end, far from it and especially when it is so early in their careers. I can see them, fighting again in the future.

“Gorman is slick, nice mover for a big heavyweight, but I fancy Dubois slightly although it’s a very good fight.”

BEN DAVISON BREAKS DOWN DUBOIS V GORMAN

BEN DAVISON has emerged as one of British boxing’s top trainers over the last 12 months through his work with lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and WBO super-middleweight title holder, Billy Joe Saunders.

He has also wowed fans with his expert knowledge at breaking down fights.

We put him on the spot and asked Ben to assess the fascinating vacant British heavyweight title fight between Daniel Dubois (11-0, 10KOs) and Nathan Gorman (16-0, 11 KOs) that takes place at London’s o2 on Saturday July 13, live on BT Sport. A fight not to be missed.

Here is what Davison had to say when we caught up with him.

GORMAN VERDICT

“Key factors for Nathan are that he keeps his feet moving and doesn’t allow Daniel to plant his feet and have the balance to load up on his shots.

“It will be hard for Daniel to carry the same power if he is having to travel and punch at the same time.

“Nathan’s also got very good head movement, variety and good shot selection. If he can keep his feet moving whether it’s big steps or small steps he’ll be bringing Daniel towards him.

“Daniel having to travel and close the distance means he’ll be having to step into Nathan. With good timing, good head movement and good counters he could make Daniel pay.

“I think it’s important that Nathan puts an exit on his shots so when he makes Daniel miss he makes him pay.”

DUBOIS VERDICT

“What’s key for Daniel is feints to throw Nathan’s timing off.

“I think changing the tempo of his work and not chasing Nathan is important.

“If Daniel gets carried away with the moment and looks for the knockout with Nathan getting under his skin he could play right into Nathan’s hands.”

FIGHT VERDICT

“I think it’s a good fight between two upcoming prospects and I think who gets their game plan right and can make those adjustments through the fight will come out on top.”

BEATING DUBOIS WILL BE A PIECE OF CAKE

NATHAN GORMAN has splattered arch rival Daniel Dubois by squashing him with his birthday cake (see link).

Gorman, is 23 today (Tuesday), but in no mood to celebrate until after their vacant British heavyweight title clash at London’s o2 on Saturday July 13, live on BT Sport.

He said: “It’s just a normal training day so I am hardly in the mood to eat cake and have a fun day.

“I won’t see my family because I am staying away from home to be near the gym, but it will be worth it when I beat Daniel.

“I was given the cake at the wrong time and if I did try to eat it I don’t think my trainer Ricky Hatton would’ve been pleased.”

Dubois (11-0, 10 KOs) has done his best to dampen Gorman’s birthday claiming his rival will never entertain fans and says he expects an easy night on Frank Warren’s spectacular card.

Gorman (16-0, 11 KOs) who sparred around 200 rounds with Dubois when they were amateurs snapped back: “Don’t throw stones from a glass house.

“He knows deeps down that he has to train his hardest and that I am coming to take that belt. He knows it.

“No disrespect to the opponents we have both fought – they are just learning fights and had lost before. I won’t accept defeat like they might.

“When I beat him what is he going to say then? He says I’m not exciting, but I will have beaten him so what will that make me?”

DUBOIS: GORMAN IS BORING

DANIEL DUBOIS HAS questioned the entertainment value of fights involving his forthcoming opponent Nathan Gorman.

Gorman, by his own admission, has laboured somewhat to points victories in his last three fights, but mitigates this by pointing out that he has suffered with opponent withdrawals and short notice changes, therefore affecting his level of motivation.

Dubois views the matter differently and insists his July 13 British heavyweight title opposition will never deliver the thrills and spills.

“Well, this sort of fighter will never be entertaining, it is just the way he is,” reasoned the London fighter. “One thing I can tell you is he is never going to be exciting to watch.”

The same certainly cannot be said for Dubois, with his 10 KOs from 11 pro fights. The 21-year-old even entered into a couple of wild swing-offs with his last opponent, Richard Lartey, before stopping the Ghanaian in the fourth.

Dubois cannot fathom what the thought process was behind being drawn into a shootout.

“To be honest, I don’t know,” he admitted. “The spirit and energy told me to do that and I went out and did it. The only thing I can say about that fight is I got a win.”

Meanwhile, Dubois went on to borrow the words of Lartey when assessing the merits of Gorman as an opponent and whether he is the Nantwich man’s toughest assignment to date.

“Yes, as my last opponent said, he is baby food and this guy has definitely been on that.”

GORMAN: DUBOIS NOT THE FORCE PEOPLE THINK HE IS

NATHAN GORMAN HAS thrown doubt on the reputation of Daniel Dubois as a concussive puncher.

The feuding pair will meet with the British heavyweight title at stake at the o2 Arena on July 13 and most pundits would probably predict any KO finish to be in favour of Dubois.

The young Londoner has wowed the crowds since turning professional in April 2017 and subsequently employed his apparent bludgeoning power to stop 10 of his 11 opponents so far.

Gorman, who knows his forthcoming foe well from their Team GB amateur days, reckons Dubois doesn’t carry the force people believe.

“Yes, I’ve shared the ring with him on numerous occasions,” reflected the 22-year-old pupil of Ricky Hatton. “Yes, it was three or four years ago, but unless he has developed monstrous, monstrous power then nothing really can trouble me.”

Not that Gorman intends to test out his theory regarding the power of Dubois.

“People have yet to see how tough I am,” he added. “I am a very tough man, but there are no awards for being a tough man in boxing, is there? So I will avoid those punches.”

HAYE ON THE FENCE – TIPPING DUBOIS V GORMAN DRAW

DAVID HAYE cannot wait for his ringside seat when the world’s best heavyweight prospects Daniel Dubois and Nathan Gorman clash next month.

Dubois (11-0, 10KOs) and Gorman (16-0, 11 KOs) meet for the vacant British heavyweight title at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday July 13, live on BT Sport.

The Hayemaker is wowed by the domestic heavyweight battle of 2019 and says: “I don’t know which way it goes, perhaps a draw.

“It’s a fight I want to be ringside for because both boxers are young and hungry. They have very different styles that will gel nicely.

“These two fighting is only going to benefit fans.”

Former WBA heavyweight title holder, Haye has watched Gorman train at his gym and was surprised by what he saw, but is blown away by Daniel’s concussive power.

Haye added: “Ricky Hatton has done a great job training Nathan Gorman. You can look at the same opponent like Razvan Cojanu – Gorman won on points, Dubois knocked him out.

“That might be a way to judge the two, but believe me I’ve seen Gorman behind closed doors sparring and he is a real handful.

“He is a lot better than he looks. Aesthetically he is not that pleasing to look at, but the punch output and the left hook is good

“Ricky’s best shot was his left hook to the head and body. He has applied that to Gorman’s style. He moves his head and rolls well.”

Dubois, 21, has gained his reputation by knocking out all but one professional opponent so far.

Haye added: “Dubois can close the show. People expect heavyweights to finish with one man not being able to stand up.

“Frank Bruno built his brand doing that and Lennox put on performances like that.”

Some have questioned why Frank Warren has made the fight so soon in their careers, but Haye insists the Hall of Fame promoter has done the right thing by matching his hopefuls.

Haye told Boxing Social: “People say it is too early for them to fight each other, but Frank Warren made a good point that James DeGale and George Groves fought at a similar stage in their careers.

“Both went on to win world titles after and even though DeGale was the loser on that night he became a two-time world champion.

“It doesn’t mean someone’s career is over particularly when they are so young like these guys. I just think it’s a great fight.

“People want to see fighters taking on each other. We’ve seen plenty of guys ducking and avoiding each other.

“We have two fighters on the same network who want the fight so crack on.”

WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP RUIZ JR BACKING GORMAN TO TOPPLE DUBOIS

ANDY RUIZ JR is backing Nathan Gorman to join him on his throne as boxing’s upset King.

Big Andy caused an all-time shocker earlier this month when he hammered Anthony Joshua to defeat and became IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight champion.

Gorman (16-0, 11KOs) has been inspired by the achievements of the Mexican who like him isn’t a body beautiful.

What Ruiz Jr achieved at Madison Square Garden will be in Gorman’s mind when he attempts to upset the odds by defeating Daniel Dubois (11-0, 10KOs) in their vacant British heavyweight title clash at London’s o2 on Saturday July 13.

Ruiz Jr has gone out of his way to contact Gorman ahead of the fight even though he is emerging as a rival.

He told him via his official Twitter account: “Good luck mate! You got what it takes.”

Ruiz Jr clearly appreciates the support given by Gorman who said he was capable of springing a surprise against Joshua.

Gorman knows how crucial the Dubois fight is, but admits he will be in no immediate hurry to jump straight into a fight against Ruiz Jr and the division’s elite.

“My main concentration is Daniel, but in the next 12 to 18 months I can get there,” says Gorman who admits it is hard not to think of becoming world champion.

“Being a British heavyweight champion these days you are virtually on that world door, aren’t you?”
