LAS VEGAS (March 17, 2020) – Floyd Mayweather, along with the boxing world, mourns the death today of his uncle, former world champion and legendary trainer Roger Mayweather, after a long battle with diabetes.

Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Roger Mayweather was a two-division boxing world champion, winning world titles at super featherweight and super lightweight while earning 59 wins in a nearly 20-year career that included notable fights against Julio Cesar Chavez and Pernell Whitaker, amongst many others. Along with his brother Floyd Sr., he helped guide the illustrious career of his nephew Floyd and was in his corner for some of the most memorable and important moments in boxing history. Roger is also survived by his brother Jeff, a former boxer and trainer in his own right.

“My uncle was one of the most important people in my life inside and outside of the ring,” said Mayweather, who is still grieving from the loss of his children’s mother Josie Harris. “Roger was a great champion and one of the best trainers in boxing. Unfortunately, his health was failing him for several years and now he can finally rest in peace. Roger meant the world to me, my father Floyd Sr., my uncle Jeff, our whole family, everyone in and around the Mayweather Boxing Gym and the entire boxing world. It is a terrible loss for all of us.”

Burbank, CA: Anatoliy “The Gladiator” Dudchenko (192-, 13 KOs) has reunited with his former trainer Jesse Reid (whose training resume includes: Roger Mayweather, Johnny Tapia, Hector Camacho and many more) as he prepares to face Nadjib Mohammedi (34-3, 20 KOs) on June 21 for #1 eliminator in the IBF. The winner will face Bernard Hopkins for the IBF Championship. Dudchenko trained with Reid earlier in his career and, when he heard he was going to be fighting for the mandatory slot in the IBF, he returned to Reid to help prepare for the fight of his life.

Reid and Dudchenko are training at the Powerhouse Gym in Burbank, CA. According to Reid, “This camp is going very well. We sparred with a partner who has a similar style to Mohammedi – good speed and good head movement – we are working on controlling that.” Preparation has been somewhat difficult, however, because Mohammedi has never fought in a televised bout, which made finding fight footage difficult for Reid and Dudchenko. Reid said, “We were able to find a couple of Mohammedi’s fights online but we don’t have too much on him. From what he have seen he doesn’t look like he is a powerful guy. He gets in bad positions which we are going to try to capitalize on.”

“The Gladiator”
Dudchenko came to the United States in 2004 from the Ukraine because he felt it would help further his career and get him one step closer to a world title. He said, “I feel very good. I am so focused. This is the chance of my life. This is why I moved to United States. I like my chances. Sparring and training is going good. I worked with Jesse before and we had a great experience.” When asked about his opponent, he said, “Mohammedi is a good fighter and I respect him. He’s tough but to me it doesn’t matter who I face because this is my chance of my life. I am not going to give it to anybody. This is a fight that people have to watch.”

Despite the fact that this will be the biggest fight of “The Gladiator’s” career, Reid thinks he is ready and can handle the pressure, “I think he can handle the pressure of knowing he is on NBCSN and that this is the biggest fight of his life. I think this is a guy (Mohammedi) that can’t hurt him, which is good, but at the same time this is a guy who can match him with his speed. It is going to be interesting to see how Anatoliy carries himself. I trained Anatoliy earlier in his career and he knocked out a couple of guys while working with me and I am glad that I have him back. He is going to do extremely well and put on a great performance.” Vince Caruso, Anatoliy’s manager, added, “I have never seen Anatoliy more mentally prepared for a fight than he is right now. The 21st can’t come soon enough. This fight is going to put his name on the map.”

This has been another great week at the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas. I continued my work with Floyd’s assistant trainer Nate Jones and I also worked with Roger Mayweather.

CBS – Showtime who Floyd has just signed a six fight deal, started filming him for the build-up to his fight with Robert ‘The Ghost’ Guerrero.
Some of these were private sessions where only The Money Team or sparring partners of Floyd could watch. I had the privilege of being able to stay and watch Floyd go through histraining regime.
It is always instructive and inspiring!
This week I had the pleasure of accompanying Floyd on his evening road running sessions. Being side by side with greatness is something that can only fuel you to achieve your goals.
Floyd invited me to the Alicia Keys concert at the Mandalay Bay hotel resort and casino with The Money Team on Friday. I had a great night out with them.
They have made me feel continuously welcome and very much at home.
Vegas is the place to be! Adrien Broner is due to fight world champion, Paul Malignaggi, in June and is considering basing himself in Las Vegas. Paulie has come a very long way since we first sparred in 2005.
I sparred with the talented Semajay Thomas again this week. It was his final week of sparring before his professional debut. He was a successful amateur being ranked US number one and world number five at the highest points of his amateur career.
He has already sparred two weight world champions Devon Alexander and Adrien Broner. As long as he stays focused and keeps working hard, I expect him to be a world champion. Remember where you heard it first.
I also traded punches with world rated Vernon Paris in sparring, which was decent work.
Next week I’m due to spar two weight world champion Cellestino Caballero. He is a great fighter and I’m looking forward to it.
There is NO let up here, and everything is competitive and hard edged. No quarter is ever asked for and absolutely no quarter is ever given without a fight.
