Devon Alexander to train with Roy Jones Jr.

Former two-division world champion Devin Alexander will begin training with Roy Jones Jr., according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

“I just that I need some better conditioning,” said Alexander, who turned 32 on Feb. 10. “I’m losing my fights because I’m gassing out at the end of my fights. I use to not do that, but I need more conditioning and stamina now that I’m older.

“I made the change because I just felt like it was time for me to try something different, and when I talked to Roy Jones Jr., a future Hall of Famer and living legend, he said he can help with my comeback. I didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to see what we could do together. After speaking to him, I really felt like it was a perfect match. He truly understands what it’s like for a fighter, like myself, who is making a comeback at this stage of his career.”

Roy Jones, Jr. Boxing Promotions Slams New Zealand boxing commission about Controversial Joseph Parker-Alexander Flores fight

LAS VEGAS (December 31, 2018) – Roy Jones, Jr. Boxing CEO-Co-Founder Keith Veltre has slammed the Professional Boxing Commission New Zealand (PBCNZ) regarding the controversial Joseph Parker vs. Alexander “The Great” Flores heavyweight fight, held earlier this month, due to numerous obvious low blows, resulting in Flores being knocked out in the third round.

“As excited as we were for Flores to face-off against Parker,” Veltre said, “we are equally disappointed with Parker’s dirty antics. It was clear that the referee not only favored Parker, but he also lacked enough knowledge to be officiating in the ring. Cleary, though, the New Zealand commission is just as inexperienced with high-caliber fights like this. If it wants to continue pursuing larger fights, then I would suggest it makes sure there is an equal playing field in New Zealand for all foreign fighters.”

Upset-minded Flores (17-2-1, 15 KOs), fighting out of Rowland Heights, California, traveled to Parker’s home country to challenge the former World Boxing Organization (WBO) heavyweight world champion, in front of three Kiwi judges and a New Zealand referee, John Conway.

“Coming into this fight,” Flores said, “I was excited and prepared for the opportunity to fight Joseph Parker. My vision of how it would play out was nothing that I could have ever expected. I heard Joe speaking in pre-fight interviews about hitting me in the balls or using his elbows, but I really thought he was talking about his experience with Dillian Whyte, and I never expected him to use those tactics with me. I have never been a dirty fighter, so, in my training for this fight, getting hit in the groin area or getting his forearm in my face was not something that ever crossed my mind.

“After reading articles it is clear to me that this was premeditated. When the fight started, the referee clearly stated that we were at belt-line and anything below that would be considered low. I noticed early on that he was hitting me low and I tried to get the referee’s attention. I don’t remember the exact number, but it was consistent whenever we would get inside and exchange.”

In the third round, Parker (25-2, 19 KOs) unloaded a right-left combination, both clearly landing below the belt, lowering Flores’ hands and leaving him virtually defenseless for a crushing right that floored him. Flores beat the count, but he never recovered from the illegal blows, ending in a knockout moments later.

“I have never been hit in the groin like that and there was an evident welt in that area. After the referee warned him in the corner, it was already after I had been the beneficiary of several low blows. It can be a serious problem when you’re hit in that area because, mentally, you feel like you need to protect a larger area. After that warning, he went straight to the well and hit me hard to the groin. I dropped my hand to cover my groin area and he hit me hard, knocking me down with a shot that I never recovered from. Even after the blatant low blow that knocked me down, I was shocked that the ref did not see it. This should have amounted to a disqualification, or point deduction, and time for me to recover. “

Conway warned Parker at last three times prior to the critical low-blow combination that led to the end of the fight moments later. Conway told Parker to keep his punches higher early in the second round, halted the action near the end of the second when a Parker left was terribly low, again during the first minute of the third, and then again after the two low blows that led to the first knockdown.

At the very least, Conway should have halted the action after the first knockdown to give Flores, by rule, up to five-minutes to recover, in addition to penalizing Parker one point. If Flores couldn’t continue the fight, it should have been ruled a “no contest”. Conway told Stuff that Parker would have lost a point had there been a third time, but the fourth and fifth south-of-the-border punches were the one-two leading to the first knockdown.

The only statement more irrelevant than Parker calling the low blows “unintentional”, as if legal punches, was his trainer, Kevin Barry, declaring after the fight that, “He didn’t get knocked out by a body blow.” No, Flores was merely left defenseless and dangerously susceptible to the damaging punch that floored him, from which he never really recovered, that resulted in the knockout.

“I heard that some people were saying that the low blows were irrelevant, because that was not the shot that finished the fight, but that’s from people who’ve never been knocked down and tried to recover from a knockdown. I never recovered from the low-blow knockdown. Joe quickly jumped on me with the shots needed to finish the fight.

“Looking back, I could have never imagined that he would resort to these tactics to win the fight, and I believe this left a black mark on the sport of boxing. I was knocked out to end the fight in a way that could have resulted in serious injury due to clear referee negligence.”

Even the New Zealand media understood Parker won by fighting dirty:

New Zealand Herald: “Parker last night knocked out Flores in the third round at Christchurch’s Horncastle arena but it came after at least two blows against his Mexican-American opponent, who complained bitterly about the “dirty” tacti afterwards.

“Parker’s second low blows caused Flores to drop his hands and the south Aucklander connected with a right hand which flattened his opponent. Flores beat the count but was set upon straight away by Parker who scented blood…..”

Stuff: “Parker, the former WBO world heavyweight champion of the world, knocked Flores down in the third round with a right hand to the head that was set up on the back of two unquestionably low shots.”

News.com/au: “He (Parker) promised to bring an edge, a little mongrel if you like, and Joseph Parker certainly did that when knocking out Alexander Flores in the third round……

“There will inevitably be some controversy attached to their stoppage by Parker because it came soon after a low blow, the second of the short fight, and Flores had dropped his hands when Parker’s right hand knocked him to the canvas.

“…Apart from the two low blows, Parker occasionally held and hit Flores, which is illegal, as well as going in with elbows raised.”

“I heard Joseph admitted to the low blows and that should be enough to change this fight to a ‘no contest’,” Flores concluded. “His excuse that, ‘That’s up to the ref to see low blows and his job to fight’ is like saying it’s up to police to stop you from stealing. I have the support of a lot of wonderful people in New Zealand and I was met by people at the airport who apologized for how I was mistreated. The biggest problem with boxing is we need to develop a zero-tolerance policy regarding issues of this nature. It would be a good start by the New Zealand boxing commission to set a precedence by saying it us not going to tolerate cheating or deception.

“When I pressed Joe at the end of the fight, I said to him, ‘What’s up? You know you were hitting me low.’ He just mumbled and didn’t have an answer, but he did say he’d give me a rematch. No amount of money would ever make me a dirty fighter. Joe needs to look deeply and reflect about the importance of good character because, at the end of the day, that’s what matters the most.”

The 28-year-old Flores’ goal remains to become the first Mexican-American heavyweight champion of the world

LAS VEGAS (December 13, 2018) – Roy Jones, Jr. (RJJ) Boxing proudly announces the signing of Dallas featherweight prospect Ray Ximenez, Jr. to a long-term, exclusive promotional contract.

Riding a five-fight win streak, the 25-year-old Ximenez (18-1, 4 KOs) is expected to make his RJJ Boxing debut in March.

“We’re excited to sign another top prospect like Ray Ximenez to our growing stable of fighters,” RJJ Boxing CEO and co-founder Keith Veltre said. “Ray is an old-school boxer, well-conditioned, hard-working, and we believe he has a very bright future.”

“I’m very excited and very appreciated for Roy Jones Jr. Boxing giving me this opportunity,” Ximenez commented. “I plan on showing everyone that I will be the next world champion from Dallas. “I am ready, willing and able to fight anyone, anywhere, any place and any time.”

Ximenez was a standout amateur boxer, compiling a sterling 120-9 record, highlighted by three gold-medal performances, both in the National P.A.L. Championships and Ringside World Championships. A six-time Dallas Golden Gloves champion, Ximenez started boxing at the age of 10 and he also captured gold at the 2009 Silver Gloves National Championships and Junior Olympic National Championships. He represented and captained Team USA at the 2009 Youth World Junior Olympics.

In 2010, Ximenez made a successful pro debut, winning a four-round unanimous decision versus Cristoval Larrazolo..

Five years later, Ximenez defeated Jesse Angel Hernandez, currently 12-1 and world rated (IBF #14, WBO #15), by way of a six-round split decision in Fort Worth, Texas. Last February on beIN Sports, Ximenez registered an impressive eight-round unanimous decision in Dallas over Eugene Lagos, who in his next fight on ESPN knocked off Golden Boy’s top prospect, undefeated (15-0) Emilio Sanchez, in round two.

Ximenez won a 10-round unanimous decision over 111-fight veteran German Meraz this past July in Ximenez’ last fight.

“I’m also excited and appreciate for this opportunity,” Ximenez’ manager Michael Montoya added. “I’d like to especially thank CEO Keith Veltre and matchmaker Guy Taylor for believing in Ray Ximenez, Jr. and I am looking forward to a long-term relationship with one of the best boxing promoters in the sport of boxing.”

Max “Babyface Assassian” Brings the Excitement back to Las Vegas, NV

Las Vegas, NV (June 26, 2018)- Roy Jones Jr. Promotions and Red Rock Casino, Resort Spa team up to bring the excitement of hard hitting, powerful and undeniable battles back to Las Vegas with the return of their very own Max “Baby Faced Assassin” Orneals to the ring on August 10th, 2018.
The undefeated, unchallenged, unopposed, unconquered and newly crowned WBA-NABA Bantamweight Champion, Max “The Baby Faced Assassin” Ornelas (11-0-1) is ready to grace the neon lights of Vegas once again.

Max recently stifled the 6 time title challenging Tony Lopez in a 12 round beat down to claim his first piece of gold in the sweet science. The Gil Martinez trained prodigy has yet to take a test that he hasn’t passed with flying colors.

“Max Ornelas proves last fight that he belongs with the elite,” stated Keith Veltre CEO / Co-Founder of Roy Jones Jr. Promotions. ” This time around he will start to make his climb to a World Title. We are excited to partner up with Red Rock Casino, Resort Spa in Las Vegas, NV. The plan is to continue to bring great fights to Las Vegas and keep them here.”

However the next colors he’ll face will be in the form of a fighting Filipino Flag waving Tornado, Raymond Tabugon (20-8).

Tabugon will touch down on American soil for the first time on August 10th at the Red Rocks Hotel and Casino in . Raymond is considered boxing royalty in his home country of The Phillipines as he’s fought 23 times in 18 different cities. In his last 5 bouts outside of his home island, Raymond has faced opposition with a combined record of 109-5.

“Red Rock is excited to bring RJJ Boxing and its world class fighters to our valued guests both locally and nationally. Roy Jones Jr. is a living legend and he and Keith are creating something very special at RJJ Boxing. We are fired up to host their event and see World Class Boxing up close and intimate in the Red Rock Ballroom!” Red Rock Casino Resort Spa General Manager, Bryan Lindsey

Once again young Max Ornelas will vie with a veteran but he’s never fought against the ferocity of a fiery Fillipino, will the tornado shake up the boxing world? Or will The Baby Faced Assassin claim another casualty?

ROY JONES JR. BOXING SIGNS MEXICAN-AMERICAN HEAVYWEIGHT ALEXANDER FLORES

Las Vegas, NV (March 9, 2018) – Roy Jones Jr. Boxing signs Alexander “The Great” Flores

Clearly inactivity hasn’t plagued Alexander “The Great” Flores (16-1-1, 14KO) from keeping his dreams alive. Signed, sealed and delivered, Alexander, his manager & trainer Michael Love and Keith Veltre came to terms last week and Alexander was officially added to the RJJ stable.

“My team and I have watched RJJ over the past two years and like what we see. They have moved their fighters in position to challenge for world titles,” stated Michael Love, Manager/ Trainer. “Seeing the work they have done with beIN SPORTS and the direction they have gone in regards to televised boxing is something to be excited about. Guy Taylor and I have stayed in contact since the beginning of Alex’s career and I believe Keith Veltre has the business model that will help excel RJJ.”

Flores 1st stepped into a boxing gym weighing in at over 300lbs at the age of 14yrs. Suffering from being overweight, being bullied and being unhealthy, Flores realized once he stepped into that boxing gym, he had found his utopia and he never left. Reaching his goal weight, and his potential skills, Flores decided that boxing was the legacy he wanted capitalize on, so he has.

Flores is described as having a middle weight mentality in a heavyweight body, add in the incredible head motion and you have yourself a very active full work fighter.

“I was honored when my team told me that RJJ was interested in adding me their stable,” said Alexander Flores. “They are taking the boxing world by storm and I am ready to ride it with them and honored to be a part of it.” I know they have great things in store for me and I can not wait to fight under the RJJ banner and show the world why RJJ made the right choice”

Flores’s only loss came to former IBF Heavyweight Champion Charles Martin (25-1-1, 23KOs) back on April 16, 2014 in Santa Monica, CA. Since then, inactivity plagued the once top California contender in recent years, having only fought four times in four years. Flores last bout was on February 23, 2017, with a KO1 over former Mexican Heavyweight Champion, Jorge Leal (14-8-1, 13Kos) in Tijuana, MX.

“First look at Alex’s tapes I knew he would enhance our stable immensely,” stated Keith Veltre, CEO & Co-Founder of Roy Jones Jr. Boxing “The movement, passion and dedication to his career was no brainer to Roy and I. We were honored that he signed with us, and I know he will not disappoint.”

The 27yr old trains at Elite Boxing located in Victorville, CA and is trained / managed by Michael Love.

Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions Stable Mates Max “Baby Face Assassin” Ornelas & Tony Lopez Face Off on April 20th at the Cox Pavilion

“The Baby Faced Assassin” Max Ornelas (10-0-1) has been a juggernaut in the banatamweight division. Max has posted ten wins combined with zero defeats all while only losing two total rounds. Ornelas is also enrolled full time at The University of Nevada Las Vegas where he majors in Criminal Justice. When he’s not hitting the books, he’s dropping bodies in the ring.

Max has managed to vanquish many victims with major amounts of experience with ease. In his last 3 fights, the combined record of his opposition is 43-11. Now with his future brighter than a Nevadan sky, Ornelas will look to hoist his first title on his home court at the Cox Pavilion on April 20th.

However a Texas Tornado in the form of Tony Lopez (12-3) has locked in on the young Ornelas. Lopez is a 5 time title contender and recently finished a 2 year stretch where he faced 4 opponents with a combined 39-0 record. He capped that stint with a 5 round tko over Ranel Suco (16-8) for a WBC strap. Most recently he dropped a decision loss to former World Champion, Rico Ramos (28-5).

Now Lopez will look to open up against Ornelas to surprisingly spoil Max’s monumental moment. However don’t expect the Babyfaced Assassin to go quietly into the Vegas night.

Roy Jones the Senior looks back and sees an all-time Junior

By Norm Frauenheim-

Roy Jones, a lot more of a Senior than a Junior these days, walks away and hopefully stays away after what he says was his final fight Thursday night in the same Pensacola arena where it all began nearly a decade before there was Google.

That’s a lot of hits.

He’s landed them.

And absorbed them.

Jones’ 75-fight career, including major titles in four weight classes over 29 years, amounts to a legacy that will lead to the Canastota Hall in upstate New York five years from now.

About that, there’s no debate. The only real question is whether he was an all-timer, a rival to the legends in any era. He says yeah, hell yeah.

“You can’t pretend there has ever been anyone come close to doing what I did,” Jones said in several rounds of media interviews this week. “Nobody you could name could touch me and I’m talking about nobody who’s around now, nobody who was around in my prime, and nobody who was around any time.’’

Muhammad Ali in the late 1960s and early 1970s? Sugar Ray Robinson in the late 1940s and throughout the 1950s? Not sure. It is tough, perhaps impossible, to compare great fighters from very different eras.

But there is a compelling element to Jones’ all-time claim. Within the ropes, he says, he was a better than Floyd Mayweather Jr, who has caps and T-shirts that boast the acronym TBE – The Best Ever.

Jones, who turned 49 on Jan. 16, has no argument with Mayweather’s business acumen. He is The Best Earner in history. Mayweather perfected the risk-for-reward ratio. He surpassed late heavyweight champ Rocky Marciano’s iconic 49-0 mark, going 50-0. But he did it by beating a Conor McGregor, a mixed-martial-arts star yet a novice boxer, in August.

The point to Jones’ argument, however, is that Mayweather was better at making money than he was at fighting. It’s hard to contest that one. On virtually every level other than financial, Jones proved to be resilient, coming back from repeated losses. He stayed busy, beginning with a middleweight title and reviving a dormant light-heavyweight division while also beating John Ruiz for a heavyweight title in 2003. He is the first middleweight to win a heavyweight belt since Bob Fitzsimmons did it 120 years ago. He also has a signature win, a 1994 dominant decision over James Toney, who at the time was a pound-for-pound frontrunner.

What undercuts Jones’ all-time claim was an early reluctance to travel, especially to Germany for a bout against Dariusz Michalczewski. At the time, Jones was at the peak of his physical powers. He was everywhere — in the ring and elsewhere.

In north Florida, he was the most versatile athlete since Florida State’s Deion Sanders, a cornerback who on one day in 1988 played in a spring football game, played baseball and ran in a track-and-field meet.

Eight years later, Jones played point guard for Jacksonville of the United States Basketball League in the afternoon and scored an 11th-round knockout of Eric Lucas in a super-middleweight title defense that night.

The guess here is that a Jones’ victory over Michalczewski would have been a slam-dunk in Germany or Antarctica. But an apparent reluctance lingered in Jones, perhaps from what happened to him at the 1988 Games in Seoul. It was a heist of Olympic proportions, a proven fix that gave the gold to a forgotten South Korean and left Jones with silver. Twenty years from now, that infamous moment might be how Jones is remembered.

From this corner, however, his pro career is at least worthy of some all-time consideration. Let’s just say he’s in the conversation. At the risk of contradicting myself on the difficulty of comparing different eras, I’ll make an exception: Four Kings.

That’s the title to the terrific book by the late George Kimball, who wrote about the Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns and Roberto Duran rivalry that defined the 1980s. It was boxing’s last great era. The guess here is that Jones in his prime could have held his own against those guys. There would have been Five Kings, each an all-timer.

ROY JONES JR. PROMOTIONS ENHANCES THEIR STABLE WITH KENDO “TREMENDO” CASTANEDA

Kendo “Tremendo” Castaneda carries the skill, talent and now with a name like Roy Jones Jr. Promotions in his corner, continues to raise his glove in victory. Last week, Roy Jones Jr. Promotions CEO / Co-Founder, Keith Veltre and Faith Hope Gloves Manager, Casey Gutierrez took pen to paper and locked in Kendo Castaneda.

“Signing Kendo was a great start to RJJ’s 2018,” stated Keith Veltre. “When Casey Guiterrez presented us with Kendo, Guy Taylor (official Match Maker for RJJ), we both said this kid is special and enhances our RJJ’s stable.”

Kendo is no stranger to the ring nor being a champion. Ringside National Champion in 2011, Nationals Runner up in 2010 and 2x Texas State Champion, and a combined 120 amateur career, his pedigree in and out of the ring suits the RJJ status. Kendo trains out of the Champion Fit Gym with former WBC World Champion Jesse James Leija and Joe Rodriguez.
“To be signed with Roy Jones Jr. Promotions means the world to me! I know I am in good hands and can get the fights a hot prospect like myself deserves.” stated Kendo “I feel boxing can use more fighters interested in making legendary fights. I want to fight the best. It has been hard to land good opponents, but now with the support of Roy Jones Jr. and Keith Veltre, I look forward to staying busy, getting great exposure, and bringing a positive and flexible attitude to encourage legendary fights.”

Kendo “Tremendo” Castaneda has roared his young career to an impressive 13-0 start by putting half of his opposition to sleep. Kendo ranks among the best current boxers of San Antonio alongside Mario Barrios (16-0) and Adam Lopez (16-0-1) but plans on having more titles than his hometown Spurs before he’s done. In a 3 fight span Kendo went to combat with veterans of over 115 fights combined but the vast experience proved no match to Tremendo’s speed and power as he knocked them all out. Currently Kendo is riding a three bout stoppage streak and the recently signed Roy Jones Jr. Prospect shows no signs of stopping the “Tornado of Tremendo.”

“For having turned pro at the young age of 18, Kendo truly has done an outstanding job of reaching 12-0 as a free agent. It took less than a minute to realize his boxing talent is accompanied by charisma. He truly is a happy-go-lucky type of guy. I’m excited because of his charisma, talent, fearless attitude, and high level work ethic. Truly a boxing manger’s ideal scenario. I cannot wait to hopefully have Kendo as an RJJ main event in the near future. He has a huge fan base in beautiful San Antonio, TX.” stated Casey Gutierrez, CEO of FHG

Standing at 5’9 and with a 70’ reach, Palicte is the biggest ranked Super-Flyweight in the world today. Aston currently trains with former WBC Champion Rodel Mayol in the famous Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, CA.

“I am very happy and excited for the fight and with regards to my conditioning the extra time spent training in the states has allowed me the get to my 100%,” stated Aston Palcite. “I’m always excited to fight in a city where I’ve never been and I’m sure Austin will be happy with the fight that I will be showing them. Can Jose hoist the Super-flyweight Title from Aston’s waist on December 8th?

“This fight is good opportunity to show our versatilty against the exeperiance and age. Another stop in ascension to my dream to become a world champion and one day undisputed,” stated Kenton Sipio-Cook.

Cook will clash with the savvy 20 year sweet science veteran and pride of Mexico, Rocky Montoya (32-2). Montoya has won 3 straight and would love nothing more than to take the hometown favorite out in his 7th trip to the United States.

In his last outing Ali outlasted Louisiana star Justin Thomas (18-2) by way of 8th round TKO. Roy Jones Jr. Brings His Boxing Promotion to WinnaVegas Casino Resort

Sloan, IA (November 10, 2017) – Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions, along with WinnaVegas Casino Resort are set to bring hometown heroes and skilled warriors for an action packed card on November 10, 2017. The highly anticipated event will air live on beIN SPORTS (9 p.m. CT / 10 p.m ET) from inside the beautiful WinnaVegas Casino Resort in Sloan, IA.

Undefeated, 19 year old Max “The Baby Face Assassin” Ornelas (9-0) is considered by many to be a blue chip prospect in the sport of boxing at the 118lbs (bantamweight) division. Ornelas is also enrolled full time at The University of Las Vegas (UNLV) and was last seen back in July when he defeated
the previously unbeaten Leopoldo Matinez (6-1) from Laredo Texas by way of a 5th round TKO in Arizona.

“Roy Jones Jr. and I are honored to be a part of the Winnavegas Casino Resort team.” stated Keith Veltre, CEO and Co-Founder of Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions. “My team has been welcomed with open arms from the staff and we could not be more excited to showcase our talent in Iowa. It is always exciting to give the fight fans, not only a stellar fight card, but as well to bring them the one and only Roy Jones Jr. himself.”

“On behalf of Winnavegas Casino Resort I am really looking forward to this show and working with Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions and as always Ringside Ticket Inc.” stated Mayan Beltran GM of Winnavegas Casino Resort “Of course, we are anxious to meet Roy Jones Jr. and have him as the guest star at the event.”

Ornelas is taking a huge leap in competition as he takes on the WBA #14 contender and
reigning WBA Pan-African Champion Nick Otieno (31-11) from Kenya Africa in a 10rd main event.
Just to show the vast discrepancy in experience, Otieno has more bouts (42) fought in his professional
career than Ornelas has rounds fought (34) not to mention the quarter of a century age gap (19 and 44).

Otieno who in his last fight defeated Haji Juma (17-9) in Kenya for the vacant WBA
Pan-African Championship will be making his USA debut when he takes on Ornelas on Friday
November 17 at the WinnaVegas Casino Resort. Otieno has won 10 out of his last 12 and has never been stopped or even knocked down. Nick will definitely pose the biggest and most difficult test in the young career of Ornelas. On
the other hand, a victory over Otieno will be a huge accomplishment for Max and definitely solidify his place among the Bantamweight ranks.

” I am thrilled to be working with Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions and having the legendary Roy Jones Jr. appear at the WinnaVegas Casino Resort on November 17th.” stated Patrick Ortiz CEO of Ring Side Inc “Fight fans will get to see a great fight card and meet the Roy Jones Jr. in person…….now that is a night of boxing fans do not want to miss.”

The Co-feature bout will showcase Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions Randy Moreno (10-1)
from Las Vegas, NV. Moreno is riding a two fight winning streak since
suffering an extremely controversial TKO loss back in March 2017. Moreno recently defeated
Raul Chirino (12- 7) by TKO2 on October 19 in Las Vegas on ESPN3. Like Ornelas, who just so happens
to be Moreno’s good friend and training partner will be taking a huge step in class in his
professional career as he takes on Fatiou Fassinou (28-7).

Fassinou will provide the toughest test for the young Roy Jones Jr. Boxing prospect. Fatiou
was the former WBC International Champion and like Otieno has more bouts (38) than
Moreno does rounds (33). Fassinou is coming off a close decision loss to undefeated Brandon Figueroa (14-0) back on
July 15 in New York.

Boxing Legend and future first ballot Hall of Famer, Roy Jones Jr will be in attendance to
watch all the festivities.

Sean Wheelock, Jim Greishbar and Patrick Ortiz will call the action live from ringside, while the undercard will be visible to the public starting at 7:30 PM CT on http://@FaceFIGHTNIGHTLIVE
Additional fights will soon be announced. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Tickets, priced at $60.00 ringside, $40.00 VIP Reserved ringside, $25.00 and $10.00 general admission, are on sale at http://www.winnavegas.com. Taxes and fees apply to all sold tickets.

TEAM OQUENDO DENIES THAT CHARR VS. USTINOV IS FOR WBA HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE

CHICAGO, IL (October 12, 2017) – Bobby Hitz, the President of Hitz Boxing and co-promoter of Fres Oquendo, together with Roy Jones, Jr.’s Square Ring Promotions, came out swinging this morning after reading reports that the Manuel Charr vs. Alexander Ustinov bout that is being announced for November 25, 2017 in Germany will be for the WBA Heavyweight Title. “We have received the personal assurance from Gilberto Mendoza, President of the WBA, that Charr vs. Ustinov will not be for the WBA championship, but rather will be an elimination bout for the right to fight Fres for the title,” Hitz said.

“I’m not sure what bill of goods Malte [Muller-Michaelis] sold Charr’s financial backer, Christian Jaeger, but if Jaeger believed a guy whose testimony in our Federal lawsuit their own lawyers conceded was not creditable, I guess he’ll figure out soon enough who he is dealing with,” Hitz continued. “It’s ridiculous if you really think about it. Fres was supposed to fight Briggs for the WBA title in June. Briggs tested dirty and was suspended by the WBA. The WBA resolution anticipated this and provided that if Briggs tested dirty, Fres was to fight Ustinov next. There is just no way that after winning in U.S. Federal court and after Briggs tested positive and that fight was cancelled due to no fault of Fres, who tested clean, that the WBA would punish Fres and deny him his shot at the title. That Jaeger drank the Kool-Aid that Charr would be fighting Ustinov for the title before Fres’ shot just blows my mind.”

“In fact, just last week, our team’s attorney sued last Briggs and his promoter, the Heavyweight Factory, over the cancellation of Fres’ fight against Briggs,” Hitz said. “We have demonstrated our commitment to Fres and to protecting his legal rights. Mendoza is smart and a lawyer himself. He is not going to expose the WBA over this.”

“In the past two years since winning our Federal lawsuit, between Hitz Boxing and our partner Square Ring, we have promoted well over 20 events and could have promoted a bout for Fres on any one of them, but didn’t because we didn’t want to make Fres ‘unavailable’ and lose his shot. Now that Ustinov and Charr have decided to fight each other and are ‘unavailable,’ we will be petitioning the WBA to designate a new opponent for Fres to fight for the title. We have some things in the works which we hope to announce soon.”

Bryan Vasquez will face Ray Beltran on Saturday Night under the Roy Jones Jr. Promotions Banner

Las Vegas, NV (August 4, 2017) – Bryan Vasquez will face Ray Beltran on Saturday, August 5th at he Microsoft Theater.

The former featherweight phenom turned instant lightweight top contender Bryan Vasquez (35-2) has an undeniably extensive resume. Bryan has been involved in 9 title fights and maintains an impressive 7-2 record in such affairs.

Vasquez vanquished Jose Gutierrez (11-2-2) just under a decade ago to capture his first WBA Featherweight Title. Then he won 10 straight before acquiring the WBA Super Featherweight strap. Bryan battered Santos Martinez (21-9-3) in that contest via lopsided decision.

A trend was setting for Vasquez when just four months removed from winning his last belt, he would add to his collection. Another blowout decision over a formidable opponent in Alan Herrera (25-2) lead to more gold and a World Title opportunity.

Bryan was almost perfect in his toughest test, losing only a round to Santos Benavides (23-2-2) and won the WBA World Super Featherweight Title. Vasquez would successfully defend the strap by way of 9th round TKO over Jorge Lacierva (41-8-6). It wasn’t until a trip to Japan and his 30th fight that Bryan would taste defeat.

Vasquez would rebound emphatically and recapture the WBA World Super Featherweight title in a technical decision win against Rene Gonzalez (31-5-1). Then Bryan would defend his strap twice, via decision against Jose Felix Jr. (27-0-1) then by way of TKO in the 9th against Sergio Thompson (30-3).

Now Vasquez will move up to challenge for the WBO-NABO Lightweight and NABF Lightweight Title this Saturday Night at The Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. He will take on Raymundo Beltran (33-7-1) who is riding a 4 fight KO streak that is resurrecting his career. Beltran has beaten Ivan Najera (16-2) in the 2nd, Miguel Mendoza (23-8-2) in the 5th, Mason Menard (32-1) in the 7th and Jonathan Maicelo (25-2) in the 2nd.

Can Bryan put the breaks on the surging Beltran and add to his collection of championships?

Former WBA Super Bantamweight, Rico Ramos (25-5, 13KOs) will go toe-to-toe for the vacant NABA Super Bantamweight Belt, along with Arizona area heroes. Additional fights and fighters are subject to change.

“Roy and I have always felt that live streaming would take the place of the old platforms of delivering fights,” stated Keith Veltre, CEO & Co-Founder of Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions. “To partner up with Linacre Media and showcase our talent live with Facebook is years ahead of anyone else in the industry. This will give us the ability to reach millions of boxing fans around the world and enable us to deliver our sponsors triple the exposure we would normally get from traditional T.V. Mark Fratto, the brains behind this envisioning series, is giving fighters the opportunity to showcase their talent to the world and gain a fan base. We are thrilled that his vision lines exactly where Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions wants to be.”

The July 15th card will be called by world-renowned blow-by-blow announcer Ray Flores of Premier Boxing Champions, Showtime Boxing, HBO Boxing and CBS Sports Networks. Commentating ringside alongside Flores will be boxing analyst Michael Woods of the TalkBox Podcast, NYFights.com and Ring TV. Sports fans will have a fully-interactive ringside experience as commentators respond to and answer questions and comments from the Facebook audience and fight fans from around the globe throughout the entire broadcast.

“I was inundated with complimentary texts, emails and calls almost as soon as the FIGHTNIGHT LIVE pilot started, and it was a lot of fun watching the numbers swell from 27 views at the start of the broadcast to 43,000-plus by now,” said Mark Fratto, Principal of Linacre Media. “Like many others, we believe that the present and future of ‘televised’ boxing, MMA, Muay Thai and really all live sports is digital. Further, by putting these events on Facebook we’re providing an interactive environment for fight fans to not only view the events, but to connect with each other and provide their own real-time commentary during the bouts. We believe in high-quality, cost-efficient production that can give fans free access to hundreds of global, national and regional live fight nights without breaking the bank of the promoter and also without sacrificing what sports fans have come to expect from their viewing experience – multiple camera angles, graphics, replays and behind-the-scenes access and interviews. We don’t want traditional fans, digital customers and cord-cutters to be relegated to trying to watch other spectators’ live feeds off their cell phones.”

Created and produced by Linacre Media out of New York City, the FIGHTNIGHT LIVE series features multiple camera angles, graphics, replays and behind the scenes access and interviews. The streamed shows are available globally wherever Facebook is available. The initiative not only enables fans from around the world to tune in, but also gives up-and-coming fighters a global platform to showcase their skills, gives promoters an accessible “broadcast” solution and gives small business sponsors the ability to reach a mass audience via branded content.

HITZ RETURNS TO ROSEMONT

Rosemont, Illinois – May 8, 2017 – June 23rd, live at Rosemont’s The Dome at the Ballpark, and televised nationally on CBS Sports, Hitz Boxing, in association with Round 3 Productions, continues its long-standing tradition of packed, quality events, as it returns home to where it all began 26 years ago. The promotion’s first ever series, the iconic Ramada Rumble, featured many boxing legends over its twelve year run – boxing icons such as James Toney, Angel Manfredy and others, and once featured the World Title eliminator bout between Antonio Tarver and Reggie Johnson that set the stage for Tarver’s upset win over Roy Jones Jr.

“This event is made possible by the support of the Mayor of Rosemont, Bradley Stephens, and his tremendous staff,” said Bobby Hitz. “They have been instrumental in bringing us back to Rosemont.”

The Rosemont Rumble will feature a new generation of Chicago talent. The card includes an appearance from undefeated Notre Dame grad, and current USBA Light Heavyweight Champion, Mike Lee (19-0, 10KO). Don “Da Bomb” George (25-7-2, 22KO) makes his return, and rounding out the event is a rematch of last year’s clash between Mike “Hollywood” Jimenez vs. Aaron Pryor, Jr. The remaining undercard bouts will be announced in the coming weeks.

“Rosemont has always been a special place for Hitz Boxing,” said Hall of Fame Promoter Bobby Hitz. “I had my first card there, and had a great run with the Ramada Rumble. We’re coming home, bringing the first fights ever to The Dome, and putting together fights with some really special local guys. We’re excited to team up with Round 3 Productions, Mike Lee’s team and CBS Sports. It’s going to be a big night for Chicago area boxing.”

Tickets are priced at $200, 150, 100 and 40, and go on sale this Wednesday, May 9th at www.hitzboxing.com, Doors to The Dome at the Ballpark open at 6:00 p.m., and first bell is at 7:00 p.m. The CBS Sports broadcast begins at 8:00 p.m. local time/9:00 p.m. EST.

Roy Jones Brings Grenade to Gunn Fight

Bobby Gunn 197.4 lbs (21-6-1) vs Roy Jones, Jr. 199.0 lbs. (64-9)

It was a packed house at the Chase Center in Wilmington, Delaware tonight when fans came out to see living legend Roy Jones, Jr. take on the Bareknuckle Champion Bobby Gunn in a bout for the WBF Cruiserweight World Championship. The fight was being billed as Skill vs. Will, representing Jones & Gunn, respectively. It was a pro-Jones crowd who stayed on their feet until the opening bell.

Round 1 was a feel out round with both fighters content to keep their distance. Jones landed more jabs and dictated the pace of the first round. 10-9 Jones.

Round 2 was another tentative round. Jones landed the two biggest punches of the round, a good left hook dig to the body and a vintage leaping left hook that Gunn took well. Gunn seems hesitant to engage and is content to let Jones pot shot him. 20-18 Jones.

Roy seemed to have fun in round 3, throwing a leaping left hook and catching Gunn with a big right hand towards the end of the round. Roy smiled throughout the round and jawed with ringside fans during the round. Gunn is hesitant to engage. 30-27 Jones.

Roy landed at will in round 4 with big shots to both the head and body. While taunting Gunn with a hip shake late in the round, Gunn returned the taunt and imitated Roy. 40-36 Jones.

Round 5 was all Jones, landing huge right hands and straight 1-2 combinations whenever he chose to do so. Roy appeared to be having a lot of fun and showed extremely fast hand speed. 50-45 Jones.

Round 6 was more of the same. Gunn did get in some shots in the corner and on the ropes, but nothing that seemed to affect Roy. Roy landed the bigger punches and is clearly the faster of the two fighters. 60-54 Jones.

Jones staggered Gunn with a quick combo to the head towards the end of the round. Jones stood in front of Gunn and jawed as if to say, “I could end it now, but no, you’re not ready.” Round 7 was an easy one for Jones. 70-63, Jones.

Bobby Gunn’s corner had seen enough and Gunn failed to answer the bell for round 8 in a fight that he was never in. If this was the end of the road for Superman, the Delaware fans were treated to one last night of brilliance. Bobby Gunn was game, but overmatched by one of the best to ever do it. The always classy Bobby Gunn said “Roy, you’re so good that I actually enjoyed you beating me up.” During Roy’s post-fight interview in the ring, Roy said, “my name is Roy, Damned Jones Junior!” I guess he said that just in case y’all musta forgot.

Kanat Islam 154.2 lbs. vs. Robson Assis 154.6 lbs. Jr. Middleweight 10 rounds
After an accidental head-butt that opened up a nasty gash in a bad spot over Islam’s right eye, Islam showed a sense of urgency and landed a series of huge right hands. A straight right hand put Assis on the mat. Assis could not beat the count and stayed down for a period of time after he was counted out to recover. The official time was 2:12 of the 1st round. Kanat improved to 23-0. During his post-fight interview in the ring, Kanat called out both Cotto and Canelo and said he wants a big fight. He then told the world, “I am coming.” After his explosive performance tonight, the world may be listening.

Round 1 saw minimal action with De Alba dictating the pace. 10-9 De Alba after 1.

Round 2 saw neither fighter landing anything substantial in a round that could have gone either way. De Alba may have done enough body work to steal the round. 20-18 De Alba after two rounds.

Round 3 was more of the same, with neither fighter landing anything substantial. I gave the round to Emeraz for decent body work in the red corner. 29-28 De Alba after 3 forgettable rounds.

De Alba was noticeably busier in round 4 and took the fight to Emeraz while alternating between southpaw and orthodox stances. De Alba landed a huge left hand that snapped Emaraz’s head back and was the biggest punch of the fight up to this point. De Alba seemed to take ownership of the fight. 39-37 De Alba after 4 rounds.

Round 5 featured Emeraz being more aggressive on the inside and he seemed to get to De Alba more often to the body. 48-47 De Alba after 5.

The 6th and final round was the busiest round with both fighters landing, but De Alba had a nice counter left hook near the end of the round and did enough to win the round. 15 rounds.com scores it 58-56 in a close fight.
Judges’ scorecards were 60-54 all in favor of Frank De Alba as he picked up a unanimous decision.

Local native Joey Tiberi, Jr. got the PPV portion of the night started by bringing the crowd to their feet in his bout against Bryan Timmons in a scheduled 4 rounder in the Lightweight Division. Round 1 showed minimal action, some big swings, but nobody landing anything too substantial. Tiberi did land one combo which was enough to win the round.

The second round was busier for both fighters with Tiberi landing the biggest blows, including a huge left hook. Tiberi 20-18 after 2 rounds.

The 3rd round showed better movement from Tiberi and his hands were much busier in round 3 and he landed bigger shots at will. Tiberi 30-27 after 3 rounds.

The 4th and final round started with Tiberi landing a few big hooks to the head. Late in the round, Tiberi attacked with multiple flurry attacks and landed a huge over-the-top right hand. Timmons was rocked and Tiberi pressed the action. Referee Vic de Wysocki wisely stopped the fight at 2:04 to prevent any further damage to Timmons.

Olimjon Nazarov 119.4 lbs vs Dagoberto Aguero 118.6 lbs Super Bantamweight 6 rounds

Dagoberto won via Majority Decision, judge’s scores were 57-57, 58-46, 59-55. 15rounds.com scorecard had it 57-57 with Nazarov landing the more effective power shots during the fight.

Dagoberto fought the fight mostly with his hands at his side and clowned about the ring, but Nazarov got his attention often with left hook shots to the body.

Former world champion Imamu Mayfield interested in tonight’s Jones – Gunn clash

Freehold , NJ (Feb. 17, 2017) – Former IBF World Cruiserwight word champion Imamau Mayfield has thrown his hat in the ring to face the winner of tonight’s Roy Jones, Jr. – Bobby Gunn WBF World Cruiserweight title bout that will shown LIVE on Pay-Per-View.

Mayfield of Freehold , New Jersey ended a eight-year hiatus in losing to then-undefeated heavyweight Dan Pasciolla, but came back to Knockout a game Anthony Caputo Smith in six-rounds on November 12th in Atlantic City.

Mayfield’s longtime friend/manager Vinny LaManna is adamant that that Mayfield will have the right style to beat Jones or Gunn.

“This is a fight we would love to have. Imamu is in great shape, and after his win over Caputo Smith, he has the confidence that he can beat any cruiserweight out there,” said LaManna. “Jones has beating lesser guys, and a win over either of them would catapult Imamau back into the rankings and then he can see his way back to the title. The fight would make sense as it would put two older guys together in a fight that would have meaning. I am rooting for Gunn tonight, Bobby is a gentleman. If Bobby can pull the victory off tonight, Mayfield vs Gunn would be a big draw in New Jersey because both guys live in the Garden State. The point being is simple, if Imamu can’t beat the likes of Roy Jones’s or Bobby Gunn than who can he beat?”

Roy Jones – Bobby Gunn Press Conference quotes

Wilmington, DE (February 16, 2017)-Below are quotes from Wednesday’s press conference in advance of Friday night’s “Skill vs. Will” Pay-Per-View showdown between Roy, Jones, Jr. and Bobby Gunn.

Roy Jones Jr.

On Bobby Gunn as an opponent:

“The thing I stand for and respect and represent – I love a person who won’t quit, and [Bobby Gunn] won’t quit for nothing. He has 72 wins with 72 knockouts – bare-knuckle – you’re really a professional bully! You just beat people up for the hell of it… It’s what I love. People ask why I’m so motivated to fight Bobby Gunn – it’s because what I stand for in boxing, he is in bare-knuckle. I respect that.”

On the opportunity to be in the ring on Friday:
“We are getting an opportunity to share the ring, and entertain the people while we share the ring, and I am at-heart an entertainer. And this man is a killer. I’m not saying that this man is not a killer, it’s just that I trust in my abilities to go out and do things differently because that’s who I am.”

On his conditioning:
“I am in very good shape for the first time in four or five years. I feel better than I have felt in a long time. I know I have my hands full, and I know my hands are ready for battle. I know this man is coming to bring it. But that’s what we live for; that’s what we love. Come Friday night be ready for a very entertaining fight.”

Bobby Gunn

On Roy Jones Jr. as an opponent:
I’m born and bred a fighting man, since birth. I’m fighting one of the greatest fighters who ever lived. I’ve seen a lot of horsesh!t on the Internet, people running him down. Saying he’s too old, this or that. Why don’t you guys get in the ring and fight him, then? Let me tell you something right now – I respect him more today than [the fighter he was] 20 years ago. Because he’s more dangerous, he’s cagey, he’s a veteran. There’s nothing you can do to him he hasn’t seen.”

On his mental and physical condition coming into the fight:
“I’m coming here to fight my guts out. I’m in good shape. I’ve been training hard for this one for a long time – this man’s been in my head a long time. I go to sleep with Roy, and I wake up with Roy. He’s part of my family, we’re sick of talking about Roy. I can’t wait to see him Friday night and get it over with! I’m coming here to fight.”

On critics of the matchup:
“In a few days here, me and Roy are going to battle. We’re doing to prove a lot of critics wrong, a lot of doubters. When that bell rings, it’s only me and him in there. To be honest with you, critics mean zero. Their opinions mean nothing… [Roy Jones Jr.] said he’d come and fight me, and he’s here. He has the heart of the lion. But we’re going to get it down. I’ll shake your hand today, but I’ll tell you [to Jones Jr.] we’re in for a good fight, both of us. Roy Jones won’t forget my name for the rest of his life.”

In the main event the legendary Roy Jones, Jr. takes on Bare Knuckle legend Bobby Gunn for the WBF Cruiserweight title LIVE ON PAY-PER-VIEW at the Chase Center in Wilmington, Delaware.
