DETROIT – March 28, 2024 – 2016 Colombian Olympian Juan Carrillo continued his undefeated tear through the light heavyweight division with a commanding two-shot KO over Virginia’s Quinton Rankin in the 10-Round main event of Salita Promotions’ “Big Time Boxing USA” event on Thursday, March 28, at Wayne State Fieldhouse in Detroit and streamed live on DAZN.

Carrillo (12-0, 9 KOs) overcame a light wobbling at the fists of Charlotte, North Carolina’s Rankin in the first round to come back and stop Rankin (21-9-2, 16 KOs) with a pair of powerful uppercuts.

Despite Rankin’s ferocity at the weigh-in, Carrillo kept his cool and weathered an early storm to allow his superior technique to win the day.

Fighting along the ropes, Carrillo smashed Ranking with a pair of chin shots that ensured his workday was over. The time was:27 of round three.

Current IBF #14-ranked Shohjahon Ergashev (24-1, 21 KOs), of Detroit via Uzbekistan, returned to winning form with an easy demolition of proven veteran Juan Huertas (17-5-1, 13 KOs) Panama City, Panama, in the night’s 10-Round super lightweight co-main event.

To the delight of his many local fans, the powerful Ergashev moved forward behind his trademark clubbing shots and quickly wobbled the out-gunned Huertas. A southpaw left sent Huertas reeling and a follow-up bodyshot made sure the night’s work was over.

Coming off the first loss of his career, Ergashev reasserted himself as a premier power puncher at 140 lbs. with his impressive KO 1 at 2:00 of the round.

Dearborn Heights, Michigan’s Husam Al Mashhadi (9-1, 8 KOs) made quick work of journeyman Daulis Prescott (34-20, 26 KOs) Barranquilla, Colombia, in their scheduled-for-six-round super welterweight bout.

Al Mashhadi hurt Prescott badly with a right, then followed up with a barrage. Despite the wobbling Prescott’s protests, it was waved off at 1:47 of the very first round.

In a minor upset, William Townsel (now 7-1, 5 KOs) Portsmouth, Virginia, had too many more-refined skills for ambitious up-and-comer Nadim Salloum (12-1, 6 KOs) of Brooklyn, New York, via Lebanon, in an eight-round super middleweight fight.

“Turbo” Townsel was too fluid on offense and too defensively sound for the cruder Salloum.

Fighting out of the “Mayweather Shell,” Townsel landed nifty uppercuts on the inside and rocked Salloum with clubbing right hands from in-close repeatedly. Salloum tried but eventually resorted to loading up on shots later in the fight against the craftier Townsel to no avail, as Townsel piled up points.

The unanimous decision for Townsel was scored 79-73 and 80-72 x 2.

In the 10-round super middleweight broadcast opener, IBF #2 and WBO #10 Vladimir Shishkin (16-0, 10 KOs) of Miami, via Russia, made easy work of journeyman Mike Guy (12-8-1, 5 KOs) Sacramento, California, breaking him down and stopping him at 2:14 of round seven.

Shishkin had too many tools for the heavily muscled but under-gunned tough guy, sticking the Californian with withering body shots and clubbing head shots to Guy’s ambitious, but wide-of-the-mark return shots.

Shishkin stayed busy and, no doubt, kept his valuable #2 IBF ranking with the victory, but didn’t produce the highlight-reel KO that would have propelled his fortunes. Guy, to his credit, was tough and a professional survivor and probably could have gone on, but without any real chance of winning.

In a four-round untelevised middleweight scrap to start the night, Detroit’s Josiah Shackleford (2-0, 2 KOs) made quick work of cross-state rival Antwion McCollough (0-4) of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Shackleford dropped McCollough twice, the final time for good at 1:28 of round one with a quick right hand high on the head.

DETROIT – March 27, 2024 – While 2016 Colombian Olympian Juan Carrillo will be looking to continue his undefeated professional record in the night’s 10-round light heavyweight main event against veteran Quinton Rankin, two other transplanted Detroit-based fighters in the Salita Promotions stable: recent world-title challenger Shohjahon Ergashev, and super middleweight contender Vladimir Shishkin, will be fighting to regain or maintain their positions in the world rankings.

The trio of exciting fights highlight the next installment of “Big Time Boxing USA” presented by Salita Promotions this Thursday, March 28, at Wayne State Fieldhouse in Detroit and streamed live on DAZN (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT). IBF #14-ranked Ergashev (23-1, 20 KOs), who will be entering the ring for the first time since his unsuccessful challenge for Subriel Matias’ IBF World Super Lightweight Championship last year, will take on Panama City veteran Juan Huertas (17-4-1, 13 KOs) in the 10-round super lightweight co-main event, while IBF #2 and WBO #10 Shishkin (15-0, 9 KOs) returns to battle the always tough Mike Guy (12-7-1, 5 KOs) in the 10-round super middleweight broadcast opener.

32-year-old Ergashev had looked, at times, unstoppable while dominating other then-undefeated prospects in nationally televised showdowns, including a TKO 3 over unbeaten Sonny Fredrickson and a unanimous decision over Mykal Fox, but ran into the fists of Matias, while also suffering a leg injury that hampered his performance, last November.

Ergashev, who has continued to work with renowned trainer SugarHill Steward for the fight against Huertas, will be looking to use the leverage of an impressive performance to regain the top-10 ranking he previously enjoyed.

However, if the slugger’s confidence was affected by the loss to Matias, he could be in for a rough night against Huertas, who in his nearly 11-year boxing career has held several national and regional championships, including the Panamanian Super Featherweight, WBA Fedecentro Super Featherweight, WBA Fedelatin Super Featherweight, and WBO Latino Lightweight titles.

Against Sacramento’s Guy, Shishkin will need to pull through victorious if he is to keep his valuable #2 ranking for an eventual lucrative and potentially star-making shot at Canelo Alvarez’s IBF World Championship.

DETROIT – March 6, 2024 – “Big Time Boxing USA”, the new series presented by Salita Promotions, will return for its second installment with a pair of matchups featuring top contenders in their respective divisions entering the ring on Thursday, March 28 streamed live on DAZN from Wayne State Fieldhouse in Detroit.

The action begins at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT and is topped by 2016 Colombian Olympian Juan Carrillo putting his unbeaten record on the line against veteran Quinton Rankin in a 10-round light heavyweight bout, plus IBF No. 2 super middleweight contender Vladimir Shishkin returns to battle the always tough Mike Guy in the 10-round co-main event.

Representing his native Barranquilla, Colombia, Carillo (11-0, 8 KOs) has impressed since turning pro in 2019, quickly working his way up the light heavyweight ladder. His most recent outing saw the 31-year-old earn a victory over previously unbeaten Richard Vansiclen to take home the WBO Inter-Continental belt, putting him on the path to facing Dmitriy Bivol. Accumulating a record of 388-23, he was among Colombia’s most decorated amateurs and advanced to the second round at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. He also won gold medals at the 2012 Colombian National Games, 2012 Pacific Cup Tournament, 2011 Colombian National Championships, 2010 Colombian Youth National Championships, and silver at the 2014 Central American & Caribbean Games.

Rankin (21-8-2, 16 KOs) has faced a slew of big names throughout a pro career that dates back to 2011. A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Rankin challenged reigning titleholder David Morrell Jr. and former longtime champion Chad Dawson in 2019 alone. Following the Morrell fight, Rankin put together an impressive six-fight winning streak, stopping four of those opponents. He most recently dropped a decision to contender Deon Nicholson in September 2023.  

In addition to his IBF ranking, Shishkin (15-0, 9 KOs) has earned acclaim as the Ring Magazine’s #6 super middleweight and If he continues his winning ways, he’ll look to earn a world title fight against current undisputed super middleweight world champion Canelo Alvarez. Most recently, Shishkin knocked out Ramon Ayala in round two last September.

He will be opposed by Los Angeles’ Guy (12-7-1, 5 KOs), who owns notable victories over Denis Douglin and Marco Delgado. Guy has faced a who’s who of top contenders throughout his career, including Sergiy Derevyanchenko, John Ryder, Jesse Hart, Demond Nicholson, Ali Akhmedov and Junior Younan. Despite that resume, Guy has only been stopped once in his career, and that came in the final round of the bout.

 The Salita Promotions promoted 168-pounder has fought his way to the No. 2 contender position in the IBF and continues to seek out a world title fight, with his current focus on undisputed champion Canelo Alvarez.

“I was happy to get some work on Friday and stay sharp while I await my world title fight opportunity,” said Shishkin, who improved his record to 15-0 with nine knockouts. “I watched the Canelo fight closely the day after my fight and feel completely ready to win when that opportunity comes. DETROIT, MI – September 26, 2023 – Top super middleweight contender Vladimir Shishkin will return to action this Friday, September 29 as he duels Mexico’s Ramon Ayala in an eight-round matchup from Miccosukee Indian Gaming Resort in Miami, Florida.

The IBF’s No. 2 contender at 168-pounds, Shishkin has worked his way into position for a world title fight since turning pro in 2016. If he continues his winning ways, he’ll look to earn a world title fight against current undisputed IBF, WBC, WBA and WBO super middleweight world champion Canelo Alvarez, who is slated to defend his titles this Saturday against undisputed 154-pound champion Jermell Charlo.

In a highly anticipated battle of undefeated lightweights, Frank Martin coasted to a 12-round unanimous decision over Michel Rivera at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.

In round seven, Martin put Rivera on the canvas with a right hook.

Martin, 134.75 ls of Indianapolis, IN won by scores of 120-107, 118-109 and 117-110 and is now 17-0. Rivera, 134.5 lbs of Miami is 24-1.

Vladimir Shishkin remained undefeated with a 12-round unanimous decision over former world champion Jose Uzcategui in a super middleweight fight.

Shiskin outlanded Uzcategui 238 to 162.

Shishkin, 167.25 lbs of Russia won by scores of 117-111 twice and 115-113 and is now 14-0. Uzcategui, 167.5 lbs of El Vigla, VEN is 3205.

Vincent Astrolabio stopped Nikolai Potapov in round six of their 12-round bantamweight bout.

In round five, Astrolabio landed a body punch that put Potapov on a knee. In round six, another body shot sent Potapov down for the count at 1:26.

Astrolabio, 117.5 lbs of General Santos City, PHL is 18-2-1 with 13 knockouts. Potapov, 117 lbs of Posdoisk, RUS 23-3-1.

Omar Juarez was deducted three points for low blows but won a 10-round unanimous decision over Austin Dulay in a super lightweight bout.

In round three, Juarez was deducted two points for low blows. In round four, Juarez was once again deducted a point for a low blow.

Juarez, 141 lba of Brownsville, TX is 14-1. Dulay, 140 lbs of Nashville, TN is 15-4.

Elijah Garcia remained undefeated with a second round stoppage over Cruse Stewart in an eight-round middleweight bout.

In round two, Garcia dropped Stewart with a left hook. Stewart did not get up and the fight was waved off.

Garcia, 164 lbs of Phoenix, AZ is 13-0 with 11 knockouts. Stewart, 162.5 lbs of Maple Grove, MN is 8-2.

LAS VEGAS – November 22, 2022 – Rising undefeated lightweight contenders Michel “La Zarza Ali” Rivera and Frank “The Ghost” Martin will clash in an intriguing 12-round WBA Lightweight Title Eliminator as they headline live on SHOWTIME Saturday, December 17 in a Premier Boxing Champions event at The Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and now fighting out of Miami, Fla., Rivera (24-0, 14 KOs) burst onto the scene in 2019, making his United States debut with a victory over Rene Tellez Giron. The 24-year-old continued his ascent with five more victories in 2020 and 2021, including knockouts of Jon Fernandez and Anthony Mercado. Most recently he outboxed Jerry Perez, earning a unanimous decision victory in October after dominating the previously unbeaten Joseph Adorno on his way to a unanimous decision in March.

“This is the type of fight that I’ve been asking for and I can’t wait to get into the ring,” said Rivera. “Martin is a strong opponent with a good record, but I’m ready to show that I am the future of the lightweight division. The 27-year-old Martin (16-0, 12 KOs) ascended the lightweight rankings in 2021 with a pair of impressive victories before delivering a New Year’s Day KO over veteran Romero Duno. In April 2021, Martin knocked out the previously unbeaten Jerry Perez in a dominating performance before earning a unanimous decision over Ryan Kielczweski in August. He produced a methodical destruction of Jackson Mariñez in July when he stopped him in the 10^th round, showing the skill set that has made him one of the most highly touted contenders at lightweight. Originally from Indianapolis, Ind., Martin now trains in the Dallas area under the guidance of Derrick James alongside his promoter and unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr.

Born in Venezuela and fighting out of Tijuana, Mexico, Uzcátegui (32-4, 27 KOs) captured a 168-pound world title in March of 2018 by stopping veteran contender Andre Dirrell after eight rounds. The 31-year-old put himself in position to fight for a title with four straight stoppage victories from 2015 through 2016, including a win over then unbeaten Julius Jackson. Since losing the title to unbeaten champion Caleb Plant in January 2019, Uzcátegui has rebounded to win four of his last five fights, including most recently knocking out Felipe Romero in May.

“I am thrilled to be returning to fight on SHOWTIME on December 17,” said Uzcátegui. “That is where I won my world title and I can’t wait to put on another great performance. I am looking at this fight against Shishkin as my chance to reclaim my belt. I’m leaving it all in the ring in this fight. It’s all or nothing for me once I step between the ropes.”

Prior to that decision victory in February, Astrolabio’s previous five wins had all come by knockout.

I’m honored to be fighting in a world title eliminator. I truly feel that I earned this opportunity with my victory over Rigondeaux. This is my first fight on SHOWTIME and I’m training hard to make it a memorable one.”

Potapov (23-2-1, 11 KOs) has held his current training camp in Miami as he is co-trained by John David Jackson while he too looks to solidify his shot at a world title. The Russian native enters the fight on a three-bout winning streak following a narrow decision loss to Joshua Greer in July 2019. The 32-year-old turned pro in 2010 and was unbeaten until a 2016 draw against fellow contender Stephon Young.

The talented Russian will look to stay sharp against Ecuadorian trialhorse Jeyson “Verdugo” Minda (14-6-1, 8 KOs), in a bout scheduled for eight rounds.

Dmitriy Salita of Salita Promotions proudly announces he has won the purse bid to stage a 12-round super middleweight elimination fight for the #1 contender spot between two unbeaten contenders, Detroit-based Russian Vladimir Shishkin and Germany-based Russian Evgeny Shvedenko. The winner of the fight between IBF #8 Shishkin (12-0, 7 KOs) and IBF #3 Shvedenko (15-0, 6 KOs) could be ordered to next face the winner of the unification fight between IBF Champion Caleb Plant and superstar WBC, WBO and WBA champ Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, expected to happen in September.

The purse bid, held today (June 15, 2021) at the IBF offices in New Jersey, was won by Salita for a bid of $355,000, which eclipsed the bid by Farcher Sport who bid
$277,308. The purse bid split will be 60% for Shvedenko and 40% for Shishkin. While no venue or specific date have been hammered down, the IBF further mandates that the fight must take place within 90 days of the bid or by Monday, September 13, 2021.

Salita, promoter of Shishkin, says this is huge news for his undefeated supermiddleweight and former amateur star.

“Winning this purse bid puts Vladimir one fight away from a world championship fight if he wins and, if Canelo wins against Plant, a unified super middleweight championship fight against one of boxing’s pound-for-pound best,” said a happy Salita. “But first he has to get past his countryman Shvedenko, whom he knows will not be an easy feat. This will be a very tough fight and we are honored to have won the right to promote it.”

In just 15 fights, 29-year-old Shishkin, from Serpukhov, Russia, has already won the WBA Continental Super Middleweight Championship with a KO 5 over Gasan Gasanov and also won the WBA Asia Super Middleweight Title with a TKO 7 over Sergey Khomitskiy. He was last seen in February of this year, scoring a dominating unanimous decision over then 23-1 Ghanaian Sena Agbeko. Big for the weight class, Shishkin stands 6’ 1” and is extremely strong. He boxes with power behind a world-class jab and has excellent defense.

(Detroit, August 20, 2020) Tonight, in the 10-round main event of “DETROIT BRAWL AT THE LEGENDARY KRONK,” undefeated top-10 super middleweight Vladimir Shishkin (11-0, 6 KOs) dominated and stopped tough Mexican veteran Oscar “El Monstruo” Riojas (21-14-1, 10 KOs) in round nine.

Fighting live via livestream on UFC FIGHT PASS®, WBC #10-rated Shishkin, battered the game Riojas through eight tough rounds before finally crashing home a right hand that Riojas could not withstand. The Mexican tough guy bravely rose, but a follow-up barrage by Shishkin convinced referee Frank Garza to end things 48 seconds into the penultimate round. The result goes into the books as a TKO 9.

Credit goes to promoter Dmitriy Salita for pulling off such a quality show in the most trying times and rigid safety conditions for sports in the past 100 years. Shishkin looks ready for the deeper waters at the top of the 168-lb division.

Russian middleweight Timur Kerefov (9-0, 4 KOs) of Detroit via Shalushka, Russia, put in a workmanlike performance in outclassing a game, but out-gunned, Kansas City, Missouri veteran Calvin “The Great” Metcalf (10-5-1, 3 KOs).

Fighting in the eight-round middleweight co-main event, Kerefov got stronger as the fight wore on, bloodying Metcalf and sending his mouthpiece flying in round six. To his credit, Metcalf never stopped coming forward and deserves credit, but the power differential was too great.

It was a good lesson fight for Kerefov, the former decorated amateur, that sometimes opponents are just too stubborn to know when they’re beaten. The scores were 80-72, 80-72, and 78-74.

Tulsa, Oklahoma, heavyweight Jeremiah “The Night Closer” Milton needed just 75 seconds to win his four-round pro debut against Hale, Michigan’s Dennis “Mighty Oak” Vance Jr. (1-2, 1 KO).

Clearly in shape and with advanced power and skill, Milton caught the long-haired Vance Jr. with a right hand that nearly spun him the other direction, Rocky style. With Vance taking the full 10 count on the canvas, it was a debut that established the 6’ 4? 230-lb. Milton as a prospect to keep an eye on.

In the night’s only women’s boxing match-up, 2019 Amateur World Champion Danielle Perkins (1-0) of Houston was impressive in her four-round heavyweight pro debut against now-formerly undefeated Monika “Lay Em’ Down” Harrison (2-1-1, 1 KO), also of Houston.

Perkins had too much skill and athleticism for the game and tough Harrison, winning by entertaining four-round decision (scores: 40-35 x 3).

In the raucous third round, the two women went toe-to-toe with both landing their share of bombs. The pace, however, seemed to wear on Harrison and she suffered a knockdown near the end of the round.

Former National Golden Gloves Champion Morris James Young Jr. had a successful welterweight professional debut (1-0, 1 KO), stopping Framingham, MA via Brazil’s Jeader Alves De Oliveira (0-1) via TKO 2.

It took Young a round and a half to figure out the awkward roundhouses of Alves De Oliveira, who doubles as an MMA fighter and was also making his boxing debut. But once he did, Young finished things with several body shots and a sharp left hook that convinced referee Gerard White to stop the contest at 1:59.

In the opening middleweight four-rounder, Detroit’s Marlon “Savage” Harrington (now 2-0, 2 KOs) ruined the pro debut of San Antonio’s Ricardo Medina (0-1) by demolishing him in 62 seconds of the first round. Harrington landed several impressive bombs, scoring three knockdowns in the abbreviated contest. “He signed up for the wrong blind date,” said Harrington of Medina, pre-fight.

Excellent prediction by a fighter who deserves another look.

Trained by SugarHill Steward at the Kronk Gym, the 28-year-old Shishkin first made his presence felt in his United States debut in August of last year, registering an eighth-round technical knockout against then once-beaten DeAndre Ware.

A former amateur standout in Russia, the 6’ 1” Shishkin scored 301 wins in 330 fights before turning professional in 2016. Despite having just 10 professional fights, Shishkin has already won the WBA Continental Super Middleweight Championship with a KO win over Gasan Gasanov. Shishkin holds a successful title defense against former world title challenger and world-rated contender, Nadjib Mohammedi, via TKO. Shishkin was last seen scoring a dominant unanimous decision over then-undefeated (15-0-2) Californian Ulises Sierra in January of this year.

A “boxing businessman,” Oscar Riojas is a hard-nosed slugger who always comes to fight, win or lose, regardless of the opponent’s reputation. The 36-year-old veteran says he uses his fight purses to open a café in Mexico and to support his extended family including his parents. Better than his record, Riojas has been on the controversial end of some of his fights against top competition and says he’s ready for war against who he calls the “untested” Shishkin.

“I always come for war, no matter who I face,” said Riojas. “My Russian opponent is undefeated, but he has never been in the trenches with a true warrior. We are going to see if he is what they say he is on August 20. Tell him to be ready.”

Originally run out of the basement of the oldest recreation center of the City of Detroit, the legendary Kronk Gym rose to prominence under the guidance of hall-of-fame trainer, Emanuel Steward, in the 1980s. In a battle of undefeated super middleweights, Vladimir Shishkin won a 10-round unanimous decision over Ulises Sierra at The WinnaVegas Casino in Sloan, Iowa.

Shishkin, 167 1/2 lbs of Russia won by scores of 100-90 and 99-91 twice, and is now 10-0. Sierra, 167 lbs of San Diego is 15-1-2.

He added: “I want Canelo (Alvarez). I want (David) Benavidez. I want the champions next. I am ready for the next level. With Sugarhill in my corner I am ready for anyone. Even with one hand.”

Steward is the nephew of the legendary trainer Emanuel Steward. “I thought all the Detroit guys did great,” Sugarhill Steward said. “They all got good experience on television. That’s a factor that some fighters don’t take in to consideration. When they get on television, they don’t know how to handle it. You have to be used to being on a stage like this and I’m happy with the way they all performed. All the guys from Detroit stepped up on television to further their careers. I’m very happy all-around.”

Shohjahon Egragshev stopped Adrian Estrella with a one-punch knockout in round one of a scheduled 10-round bout.

Ergashev landed a perfect left to the body that sent Esrella down in a heap of pain and the fight was stopped after the 10-count at 1:32.

Ergashev, 140 lbs of Uzbekastan is 18-0 with 16 knockouts. Estrella, 141 lbs of Monterrey, MX is 29-5.

“I just saw the window to the body, so I threw the shot,” said Ergashev, who is ranked in the top-15 in three of the four major sanctioning bodies. “I wasn’t planning to knock him out in the first round. I wanted to get some rounds in. The guy is durable and experienced, so I thought I would, but when I saw that opening, I had to take it.

“I knew it was over the second it landed though. I knew he would not get up from that. No one could. That was a message to the super lightweight division. It’s Shoh Time! No matter where I fight, it is always Shoh Time.”

“I started moving and tried using my jab, but he was very quick with that punch,” Estrella said. “He just punched me very hard in the stomach and I was paralyzed on the canvas. I tried to stand up, but I couldn’t hear the referee counting. I couldn’t hear anything, and I couldn’t move. It was a hell of a shot.”

Jarico O’Quinn won an eight-round unanimous decision over Oscar Vasquez in a bantamweight bout.

O’Quinn, 118 1/2 lbs of Detroit won by scores of 79-73 on all cards and is now 14-0-1. Vasquez, 117 1/4 lbs of Reno, Nevada is 15-3-1.

“I give this performance a six, to be honest,” said O’Quinn. “I want to fight bigger and taller people, that’s what I’m used to. I’m not taking anything away from Oscar. No matter what I will always come out on top. Even when things can get ugly, I know how to win beautiful.”

Added O’Quinn: “I went into this fight knowing Oscar Vasquez was a tough guy. I knew he would be coming forward to make it ugly, so my game plan was to box him but if I had to, stand there and trade with him. I knew I’d be stronger than him and be able to take his punch. It was hard to land my shots with him leaning on me. I couldn’t turn him like I wanted and cut off angles, but we came, we conquered and I got the win.”

“I get to see how they train and what they do and what makes them great. Canelo is the best of them. Just his technique and his preparation. He’s always on point and works on everything he’s told to do. They are all great champions.

“This is a great opportunity for me. I never get the calls for shows like this, and I don’t know why that is. This is my chance to shine and could change everything for me.

“Shishkin hasn’t lost yet and will be in for a tough test for me. I’ll do a little bit of everything, I can fight on the inside and the outside. He’s a long-range fighter and has length.

“I never played baseball. My dad (former Padres pitcher) tried to get me to be play baseball but I did other things like football and basketball. He was drafted at age 16 out of Puerto Rico and pitched in the majors for one year before injuring his arm.”

“I do construction 10 hours a day and that’s my full-time job, so I was coming into 118 fights easy at 116 and 117 pounds. I get up at 4 a.m. and I go straight to the gym at 4 p.m. It’s tough, but I was able to get a couple of weeks off for this fight.

“I’m not dodging anyone. I can and will fight anyone. You can put me in there with the top guys and I’m not worried about anyone. I’m ready to face the best.

“The other top guys in the division have skills, but I have power and skills. Don’t be surprised if I go in there and knock them all out.

“I know Vasquez is a tough fighter and he will keep on coming. It’s like a car with no brakes. He’s going to come and he’s going to run into something. And it will be lights out.”

SLOAN, IOWA – January 16, 2019 – Three of the four undefeated prospects featured in this weekend’s (Friday, January 17) 250th edition of ShoBox: The New Generation from WinnaVegas Casino Resort in Sloan, Iowa (live on SHOWTIME 10 p.m. ET/PT) have done their training in the rapidly re-emerging boxing city of Detroit.

While opening televised bout combatant Ja’Rico “Great Lakes King” O’Quinn (13-0-1, 8 KOs), who faces Nevada’s Oscar Vasquez (15-2-1, 3 KOs) in an eight-round super flyweight contest, hails from Detroit, main event and co-main event fighters Vladimir Shishkin (9-0, 6 KOs) and Shohjahon Ergashev (17-0, 15 KOs) have both moved to Detroit to train at the legendary Kronk Gym with high-profile trainer Sugarhill Steward.

WBC #12 Shishkin will return for his second consecutive test on ShoBox against the unbeaten Ulises Sierra (15-0-2, 9 KOs) in the 10-round main event, while Ergashev, ranked No. 6 by both the WBA and IBF at 140 pounds, will face Adrian Estrella (29-4, 24 KOs) in the 10-round super lightweight co-feature.

I have grown as a fighter quickly. This is where I belong on my quest for a world championship.”

For Fergana, Uzbekistan’s Ergashev, a superstar in his homeland with over 1 million Instagram followers, moving to Detroit was necessary for his continued development.

“I love my home in Uzbekistan, but if you want to be the best, you have to go where the best are,” said Ergashev. “Training at the Kronk Gym in Detroit has been the best thing for my career. I plan to showcase not only my power but the skills I have learned here that will put on an exciting KO performance this Friday night.”

For native Motowner O’Quinn, a popular former USA National Champion and the 2013 USA Boxing Youth National Champion, fighting out of Detroit means being part of a community.

“Training in Detroit is a blessing,” said O’Quinn. “Coming from a city so rough-and-tough, you have no choice but to have thick skin and be able to withstand whatever obstacles get in your way. O’Quinn trains with Chad Jacquillard at Dynamic Boxing Club in Westland, Michigan. Jacquillard, a former accomplished amateur boxer and nine-time Golden Gloves champion from nearby Toledo, Ohio, who has faced his share of Detroit fighters.

The 28-year-old Shishkin shined in his United States and ShoBox: The New Generation debut in August, registering an eighth-round technical knockout against then once-beaten DeAndre Ware. Standing at 6-foot-1, Shishkin was a standout amateur in Russia where he compiled 301 wins in 330 fights before turning professional in 2016. He has won his last four contests – all scheduled 10 or 12 round fights – via knockout, including a 10^th round TKO of former world title challenger Nadjib Mohammedi prior to his American debut in October 2018. Currently training in Detroit under Javan “Sugar” Hill, Steward at the new Kronk Gym, Shishkin is looking to continue his ascent up the rankings in the super middleweight division with a second consecutive statement win on ShoBox.

“Training with Sugar Hill at Kronk Gym is going really well, and I can guarantee that I will be ready and I will put my newly learned skills to use,” Shishkin said. “I hope for another emphatic victory that impresses the American boxing fans. I’m looking forward to putting on a great fight and letting the champions at 168 know that this is my year.”

The 30-year-old Sierra, from San Diego, Calif., is riding an eight-bout winning streak including a unanimous 10-round decision over Fidel Hernandez for the vacant WBC Silver Super Middleweight Championship in April. The son of former San Diego Padres pitcher Ulises “Candy” Sierra, he has sparred with future Hall of Famers Andre Ward and Canelo Alvarez and former world champion Peter Quillin. Prior to Sierra’s career-best win in April, he won four straight contests in Mexico, including three by knockout.

“I’m happy for the opportunity to face a good opponent and I’ll use him as a steppingstone to get where I want to get,” said Sierra. “I still have a month of preparation to get into the best shape of my life. I know Shishkin is undefeated and has a Russian amateur pedigree. It’ll be the hardest fight of my career, but I will do anything and everything to come out victorious.”

Hard-hitting super lightweight Shohjahon Ergashev (17-0, 15 KOs), of Uzbekistan, is ranked in the top-15 in three of the four major sanctioning bodies. The 28-year-old is coming off an impressive fourth-round knockout of veteran Abdiel Ramirez this past August on ShoBox. In his previous appearances on the prospect developmental series, the former member of the Uzbek national team scored a third-round knockout against then top-10 rated Sonny Fredrickson, and a 10-round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Mykal Fox. The powerful southpaw currently trains alongside stablemate Shishkin in Detroit.

“I am adding new dimensions to my game and plan on making a big statement in the first ShoBox of the year,” said Ergashev. “2020 is going to be my year and I am going to set the tone in my fight with Estrella.”

Estrella, who hails from Monterrey, Mexico, turned professional in 2010 and won 22 consecutive fights before he suffered his first setback in 2015. With just seven of his 33 pro fights going the full distance, Estrella is an all-action fighter typical of his Mexican roots. He earned a career-best win, a closely-contested split decision over Oscar Duarte, in his U.S. debut in February. Estrella will face his fourth undefeated prospect in his last five fights as he looks to get his career back on track with a win over the highly-regarded Ergashev.

“This is an opportunity I’m going to take full advantage of,” said Estrella. “I’ve been in camp for the last two months, so I’ll be in perfect shape to go in there and do my thing. I know Ergashev is a southpaw and a hard puncher with a big KO record, but I’ve been in this situation before. I have too much experience for him. Knowing that if I win this fight I could get a world title shot is all the motivation I need.”

The 24-year-old O’Quinn is rated No. 10 in the world by the WBO. Ranked as the No.1 amateur bantamweight in the country compiling a record of 130-18 before turning professional in 2015, O’Quinn boasts blazing-fast hands and an ability to throw effortless combinations. A fan favorite in his hometown of Detroit, he was last seen winning a unanimous decision over James Smith of Flint, Mich., in October.

“The time has finally come,” said O’Quinn. “It’s my time to show the world who the king is on live TV. For those that don’t know, January 17, I’m going to show the world greatness in is purest form. They are going to see charisma, skills and explosiveness. I know I’m fighting a tough competitor. He’s not coming to lay down. I’m coming prepared for war. It’s going to be a great night for boxing in the super flyweight division. I’m putting all the champions on notice.”

Vasquez, from Reno, Nev., is a former streaking prospect in the super flyweight division. After losing his third professional fight, the 5-foot Vasquez rattled off thirteen consecutive wins between 2012 and 2017 and was well on his way to making a name for himself in the division before a unanimous decision loss to once-beaten Ricardo Sandoval in May 2018 halted his momentum. After a year-and-a-half layoff, Vasquez returned by fighting Gilberto Mendoza to a majority draw in October. At 32 years old, the hungry Vasquez finds himself in a do-or-die fight against O’Quinn.

“Training in Reno is going amazing,” said Vasquez. “It’s such a tremendous opportunity for my life. I’m trying to get to a high ranking and it’s a dream come true. I know O’Quinn is undefeated. He’s a boxer who likes to grab a lot. He doesn’t like pressure. I’m hoping I will tire him out. I think he’ll eventually give in as the fight goes on if I put on a lot of pressure. In the later rounds, he won’t even want to come out of his corner.”

NEW YORK (August 22, 2019)–Split-T Management’s super middleweight DeAndre Ware will look to further solidify himself as a contender when he takes on undefeated Vladimir Shishkin in the main event of a ShoBox: The New Generation card, Live on SHOWTIME (10 PM ET / PT) on Friday night at Main Street in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

Ware (13-1-2, 8 KOs) of Toledo, Ohio is riding high on the strength of his previous ShoBox appearance when he won a 10-round majority decision over highly-regarded and previously undefeated Ronald Ellis on February 1st.

“This has been my best camp by far. I’m extremely confident and ready for this fight. I’m looking for this to be my best performance. It’s time for me to really get recognized for all that I’ve done. I’m ready for the next step and I’ll show it come Friday night,” said Ware.

A former collegiate football player at the University of Toledo, Ware works full time as a firefighter in his hometown of Toledo.

In Shishkin, Ware will be facing a standout amateur in Russia, compiling 301 wins in 330 fights before turning professional in 2016. He has won his last three contests – all scheduled 10 or 12 round fights -via knockout, including a career-best 10th round TKO of former world title challenger Nadjib Mohammedi in his last bout in October of 2018.

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – Aug. 22, 2019 – Undefeated and top-15 rated super middleweight prospect Vladimir Shishkin and all-action fighter DeAndre Ware both made weight a day before their main event showdown on ShoBox: The New Generation Friday, August 23 on SHOWTIME (10 p.m. ET/PT).

In the main event, Shishkin (8-0, 5 KOs) will make his U.S. and national television debut against Toledo, Ohio, firefighter Ware (13-1-2, 8 KOs), who is fighting for his third time on the prospect series. In the co-feature, hard-hitting super lightweight Shohjahon Ergashev (16-0, 14 KOs) will face power-punching Mexican Abdiel Ramirez (24-4-1, 22 KOs) in a 10-round bout. And in the opening bout, Ukrainian super bantamweightArnold Khegai (15-0-1, 10 KOs) will take on once-beaten Russian southpaw Vladimir Tikhonov (17-1, 9 KOs) in an eight-round super bantamweight bout.

All three “A” side fighters spent time training in Detroit at the new Kronk Gym and have worked with noted trainer Javan SugarHill Steward at some point during training.

The chance of inclement weather forced the night’s action to be moved to an indoor venue as it was originally scheduled to be held on Main Street. The fights will now take place from the Central Park Community Center in the Rose District of Broken Arrow, Okla. The sold-out event is promoted by Salita Promotions in Association with Tony Holden Productions.

“I fought a tall, awkward fighter my last fight on SHOWTIME and it was a great experience. (Mykal Fox) was tall and long, and now I’m fighting a shorter, more aggressive style fighter in Ramirez.

“This fight one hundred percent will not go the distance. I know I have fans because I punch hard. But I need to be flexible and slow things down a little bit. That’s what I’ve been focused on the last few days. At the end of the day, I want to land power and score an exciting knockout always.”

NEW YORK – July 24, 2019 –  A pair of undefeated and top-10 ranked prospects will return to ShoBox: The New Generation in separate tests on Friday, August 23 to round out a tripleheader telecast live on SHOWTIME from Main Street in Broken Arrow, Okla.

Hard-hitting super lightweight Shohjahon Ergashev (16-0, 14 KOs) of Uzbekistan, who is ranked in the top-10 in three of the four major sanctioning bodies, will return for his third ShoBox appearance against power-punching Mexican Abdiel Ramirez (24-4-1, 22 KOs) in a 10-round bout.

In the opening bout, Ukrainian super bantamweight Arnold Khegai (15-0-1, 10 KOs) will return for his third test on the prospect developmental series. Khegai, who is now ranked No. 5 by the WBO and No. 7 by the IBF at 122 pounds, will take on once-beaten Russian southpaw Vladimir Tikhonov (17-1, 9 KOs) in an eight-round super bantamweight bout.

The previously announced main event will feature undefeated and top-15 rated super middleweight prospect Vladimir Shishkin (8-0, 5 KOs) in his U.S. and national television debut against the streaking and all-action DeAndre Ware (13-1-2, 8 KOs).

The outdoor event is promoted by Salita Promotions in association with Tony Holden Productions. 

“This card epitomizes what we’ve been trying to do since launching ShoBox in 2001,” said Gordon Hall, Executive Producer of ShoBox: The New Generation. “We have three undefeated top prospects, all already ranked in the top 15, in step-up fights against their toughest opposition to date. A victory could put them a fight or two away from title contention, while a loss sends them back to the drawing board.” 

“August 23 is going to be an action packed fight card with pick’em fights from top to bottom,” said promoter Dmitriy Salita. “We have hungry contenders on opposite sides of the ring looking to take the next step in their careers in classic cross roads matchups. It is one of the best fight cards of the summer.”

The 27-year-old Ergashev scored an impressive third round knockout in his ShoBox debut in 2018 against then top-10 rated Sonny Fredrickson. The former member of the Uzbek national team is coming off a 10-round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Mykal Fox in February onShoBox. The hard-hitting southpaw currently trains in Detroit with Javan “Sugar” Hill at the new Kronk gym with stablemate Vladimir Shishkin. 

“I am training not just for a victory but for domination,” Ergashev said.  “I want to put the world on notice that Shohjahon Ergashev is ready to ascend to the top of the junior welterweight division.”

The 28-year-old Ramirez has been a professional for 10 years and has 22 knockouts in his 24 victories, including knockouts in his first nine professional fights. In 2018, the Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico native scored a career-best eighth round knockout over the favored Michael Perez.  The former two-time national Mexican amateur champion is coming off a close decision loss to Javier Molina on March 23. 

“Mexicans bring their heart to the ring, and I am ready to give it all to win,” Ramirez said.  “I have had excellent sparring and have already been in the gym for six weeks. I am excited to show everyone what kind of fighter I am, and I know my hand will be raised on August 23.  Ergashev is just another stepping stone to bigger and better fights.”

The undefeated Khegai is a former Ukrainian national amateur champion and two-time world champion in Thai boxing. Born to Korean parents in Lymanske, Ukraine, Khegai is an aggressive, come-forward fighter with 10 knockouts in his 15 professional fights. The 27-year-old registered two victories in 2018 on ShoBox – an eight round decision over Adam Lopez and an eight round victory over Jorge Diaz.  He’ll face his toughest test to date in the southpaw Tikhonov.

“I can’t wait to impress American boxing fans with a spectacular knockout on August 23,” Khegai said. “Vladimir is a good boxer and I know that he will come prepared to fight but my skills and my will to win will be bigger. I can’t wait – this is going to be a big year for me.”

The 29-year-old Tikhonov was a decorated amateur boxer in Russia, finishing with a record of 85-15 and a designation of “Sport Master of Russia,” a prestigious honor bestowed upon the country’s top athletes. He was an undefeated, consensus top-10-ranked super bantamweight heading into his ShoBox debut against Jesse Angel Hernandez in 2017.  The Saint Petersburg, Russia resident suffered the only loss of his career against Hernandez but has since bounced back with a victory in Russia.  He returns for his second fight in the U.S. as he looks to get back on track against the highly regarded Khegai. 

“I will be in the best shape of my life, I guarantee victory and redemption in my return to ShoBox,” Tikhonov said.  “Arnold is aggressive and at times reckless. I will show him what boxing skills are all about. He hasn’t faced anyone like this before.”

NEW YORK – July 12, 2019 – Undefeated super middleweight prospect Vladimir Shishkin will make his ShoBox: The New Generation debut against the streaking DeAndre Ware on Friday, August 23 live on SHOWTIME from Main Street in Broken Arrow, Okla.

Shishkin (8-0, 5 KOs) is a fast-rising 168-pound prospect from Russia who has secured a top-10 rating in the WBC and top-15 position in the WBA in just eight fights. The 27-year-old will make his U.S. and national television debut in a 10-round showdown with Ware (13-1-2, 8 KOs), an all-action fighter who is coming off a career-best win over then-undefeated Ronald Ellis in February on ShoBox.

The outdoor event is promoted by Salita Promotions in association with Tony Holden Productions. 

“Vladimir Shishkin, after only eight professional fights, is the best new face in the super middleweight division,” said promoter Dmitriy Salita.  “He is facing a very tough, skilled and accomplished DeAndre Ware in what I expect will be a very competitive fight and the type of test Vladimir needs to show his world-class abilities.”

The 6-foot-1 Shishkin was a standout amateur in Russia, compiling 301 wins in 330 fights before turning professional in 2016.  He has won his last three contests – all scheduled 10 or 12 round fights –via knockout, including a career-best 10^th round TKO of former world title challenger Nadjib Mohammedi in his last bout in October of 2018.  Now aligned with Salita and training in Detroit under Javan “Sugar” Hill Steward at the new Kronk Gym, Shishkin looks to make a statement in his U.S. debut and prove he has what it takes to compete in the wide open super middleweight division.

“I can’t wait to get in the ring and show the U.S. fans what I am all about,” said Shishkin.  “DeAndre Ware is strong and spirited, but not technically equipped to handle me.  I know that I may be unknown to a lot of fans in America, but on August 23 I’ll win them over with my skills, power and exciting style.”

The 31-year-old Ware will look to hand another undefeated fighter his first professional defeat on ShoBox. The Toledo native was the aggressor against the favored Ellis last February, winning via majority decision to make Ellis the 185^th fighter to lose their unbeaten record on the long-running series.  A 2013 National Golden Gloves Bronze Medalist, Ellis also owns a win over 2012 Olympian and previously undefeated prospect Enrique Collazo.  A former collegiate football player at the University of Toledo, Ware works fulltime as a firefighter in his hometown of Toledo and expects to use similar tactics from his victory over Ellis.

“Shishkin is a good fighter, I respect him just like any fighter that steps in the ring with me, but when the fight starts he’ll be another obstacle in my way,” Ware said.  “Fans can expect nothing but excitement come fight night.  As you saw in the Ellis fight, I’m here to win and I’m here to fight. ShoBox has given me the opportunity to showcase my talent multiple times and now I have these titles to show for it.  I look forward to putting my talents on display once again as I work towards my first world title shot.”

Promoter Dmitriy Salita of Salita Promotions proudly announces the signing of highly rated super middleweight contender Vladimir Shishkin.

Shishkin, from Serpukhov, Russia, is just 8-0, 5 KOs, but is already rated WBA #15, WBC #11 and IBF #11 and is the current WBA Continental Super Middleweight Champion. The 27-year-old won the title with a KO 5 over Gasan Gasanov last July and then defended it against former world title challenger and world-rated contender Nadjib Mohammedi via TKO 10 in October of last year. He also won the WBA Asia Super Middleweight Title last May with a TKO 7 over solid Belarussian veteran Sergey Khomitskiy.

As an amateur, Shishkin is a former national junior champion. Big for the weight class, Shishkin stands 6’ 1” and is extremely strong. He boxes with power behind a world-class jab and has excellent defense.

Signing with Salita, says Shishkin, is a chance to bring his name and talents to North America.

“I am happy to sign with Salita Promotions as I know it will lead to new exciting opportunities for my career,” he said. “I feel that I am the best super middleweight in the world and will continue to prove that fact by climbing up the ladder to the world title.”
