Gervonta Davis Stops Ryan Garcia in 7

Gervonta Davis stopped Ryan Garcia in round seven of their 12-round catchweight bout before a capacity crowd of 20, 842 fans at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Garcia hurt Davis with an overhand right. Garcia continued touching Davis until a perfect counter left from Davis landed squarly on the jaw of Garcia that sent him to the deck.

In round seven, Davis landed a left hand to the ribs which made Garcia take two steps back and sink to a knee for the 10-count at 1:34.

Davis, 135.3 lbs of Baltimore is 29-0 with 27 knockouts, Garcia, 135.5 lbs of Los Angeles is 23-1.

Gervonta Davis

“Everything about this was exciting. I was excited to be a part of this event. I remember coming up in the Golden Gloves and seeing Floyd fight at the MGM. It was crazy. I actually just saw Rihanna perform at the Super Bowl, and I thought that’s going to be me one day. And we’re here.

“The reality definitely matches the dream. But the job is never done until I retire so I’m going to keep my head down, stay humble and continue to work.

“Me predicting the 7th round KO was me just trying to get in his head. I really don’t know until I actually get in there with my opponent, but once I got in there with him I felt like skill-wise, it all matched.

“The first knockdown was just him not knowing his placement and I knew that I was the smaller guy, and my coach was telling me in camp that he’s going to come up with his head up, so just shoot over the top.

“I didn’t think that body shot would end it, but I saw his facial expression and that’s what made me take it to him. It was a good shot, for sure. I thought he was going to get up but I like to play mind games, so when he was looking at me, I was looking at him trying to tell him, ‘Get up!’. And he just shook his head, no.

“I’m definitely the face of boxing. Absolutely!”

Ryan Garcia

“I’m good. ‘Tank’ is a great fighter. I take my hat off to him. I know we talked a lot of trash leading into the fight, but he knows what it is. It’s all love at the end of the day. I was honored to be in the ring with a great fighter and I respect him a lot. You know how the business goes. But I want to say to Tank, you’re a good man.

“He just caught me with a good shot. I don’t want to make any excuses in here. He caught me with a good shot and I just couldn’t recover and that’s it. He caught me with a good body shot, snuck under me and caught me good.

“I couldn’t breathe. I was going to get back up, but I just couldn’t get up.

“I think I should have pressured him a little harder near the ropes. I was giving him a little bit too much respect and I think that was my downfall. I think I gave him a little too much respect in the ring.”

Morrell Destroys Falcao in 1; Retains WBA Super Middleweight Title

David Morrell Jr. retained the WBA Super Middleweight title with a first round destruction of Yamaguchi Falcao.

Morrell came out blistering as he could not miss with his right hooks and uppercuts. Morrell sent Falcao down with a hard uppercut. Morrell finished off Falcao with a devastating right hook that plummeted him face-first and he was out for several minutes before he could get to his feet. The time was 2:22.

Morrell, 167.8 lbs of Santa Clara, Cuba is 9-0 with eight knockouts. Falcao, 166.4 lbs of Espirito Santo, BRA is 24-2-1.

David Morrell, Jr.

“I’m so excited. This was a big moment and a big night for me, so a knockout in the first round is incredible. But this is boxing. First round, second round, I’m not worried when the knockout comes but I got it in the first round.

“I think this is the best moment of my career tonight. It was a big event and a big name. I want to fight the best in the division.

“Much respect to Yamaguchi. I’m glad he’s okay. He’s a good guy and a good boxer.

“David Benavidez is next. Where is he? I want to fight Benavidez, man. He’s next, 100 percent. I don’t want any other guys at 168 pounds. Just Benavidez. I respect Benavidez and his team, but inside the ring, I don’t respect nothing.”

Melikuziev Gets Even With Rosado; Wins Unanimous Decision

Bektemir Melikuziev evened the score with Gabriel Rosado and took a 10-round unanimous decision in a super middleweight contest.

Melikuziev laded 153 of 354 punches. Rosado was just 55 of 332.

Melikuziev, 167.3 lbs of Uzbekistan won by scores of 99-91 on all cards and is 12-1. Rosado, 167.3 lbs of Los Angeles via Philadelphia is 26-17-1

Bektemir Melikuziev

“This was the fight that I wanted. This is the fight that I felt like I made a mistake in the first one, and I had this opportunity for revenge on such a big card. It’s a pleasure for me.

“In the first fight against Rosado, I underestimated my opponent. This time, we put the work in during camp. We went through everything. This time, the goal was to showcase my skills, box and punish him as much as possible too.”

Gabriel Rosado

“I tried, but I was a step behind. Father Time, eighteen years as a pro, but I was game. I walked to him, I boxed him, I tried everything but I was a step too slow.

“I was a split-second behind. He’s fresh, he’s young and I’m happy for him. I knocked him out bad in the first fight and he made adjustments.

“I don’t make any excuses. I was ready. Now it’s time to wrap it up and give my knowledge to younger fighters with management and training. I want to share my experience with them, and maybe do some more commentating.”

Elijah Garcia Decisions Kevin Salgado

19 year-old Elijah Garcia remained undefeated with a 10-round unanimous decision over Kevin Salgado in a welterweight bout.

In round seven, Salgado was deducted a point for a low blow.

Garcia landed 194 of 621 punches. Salgado was 178 of 551.

Garcia, 159.2 lbs of Phoenix, AZ won by scores of 97-92 twice and 95-94 and is now 15-0. Salgado, 159.2 lbs of Mexico City is 15-2-1.

Elijah Garcia

“I was standing a little too still trying to fight on the inside. Salgado is a tough opponent. He was real tough, real strong and I just had to move and box a little bit. Other than that, it was a good, hard 10 rounds. I give my opponent 100 percent props.

“I stayed in shape one hundred percent after my last fight. Back-to-back camps, and not only that, but I made boxing a lifestyle. I’m always in the gym, eating good and doing the best I can to stay healthy.

“I just have to continue getting better in the gym every single day. That’s what it’s about. I learned a lot today. It was my first time going past six rounds and I got the full 10. The fights like this will get me closer to a world title.

“It feels great to get this win on a big stage. I feel like I’m getting better with each fight. I know I have a long way to go, but I like where I’m at. I’m hoping to get right back in the ring soon.”

Kevin Salgado

“I felt like I won. By a small margin, but I should have won.

“I feel really sad because I felt like this was a really good fight. The referee kept getting in my way. I got a point deducted from me but he didn’t say anything when Garcia hit me in the back of the head. It’s all just very sad.

“It felt like swimming against the current. Mexicans always come to fight against everyone and everything: The judges, the opponent, the refs, the home fans. None of that got in my way to keep moving toward.

“I wish I had had more time to prepare. The three weeks’ notice I got didn’t allow me to be as sharp as I wanted or needed to be.

“I’m still here and I will be a world champion someday. I can promise you that.”

The pay-per-view telecast begins at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT is headlined by undefeated rivals Gervonta “Tank” Davis and “King” Ryan Garcia in a 12-round showdown.

The event is promoted by GTD Promotions, TGB Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions.

A Cuban-native who came to Minneapolis to begin his pro career in 2019, Morrell (8-0, 7 KOs) has quickly shown off the talents that made him a standout in Cuba’s storied amateur scene. The 25-year-old captured an interim title by dominating then-unbeaten Lennox Allen in August 2020 in just his third pro fight before being elevated to champion.

Morell, who trains in Texas with renowned coach Ronnie Shields, was originally scheduled to face Sena Agbeko, who was forced to withdraw after not being licensed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Despite the late change in opponent, Morrell has no concerns about facing an accomplished veteran Falcao. Here is what he had to say about that matchup and more:

On his matchup with Yamaguchi Falcao:

“For most fighters it might be difficult to adjust to a new opponent, especially being that Falcao is a southpaw, but I’ve seen so many styles that I feel confident with anyone that’s across the ring from me. Falcao is on a nice winning streak and I’m sure his confidence is at an all-time high. He knows that winning this fight could change his life dramatically, so I know he’s coming to fight. I have plans to take him out and send another message to the entire super middleweight division. Falcao is a good fighter, but I’m better in all aspects.”

On his recent training camp:

“I’ve been training with a purpose since I got the word that I’ll be fighting on one of the biggest cards of the last ten years. Ronnie Shields and I have been working endlessly to get everything fine-tuned. With all the intense training I’ve been doing, I’m going to be in the best shape of my career. I’m right on weight and I’m feeling great. I had a great training camp.”

On fighting in Las Vegas in his first PPV event:

“As a kid, I would always dream about what it would be like to fight in Las Vegas, and here we are. It’s a tremendous blessing. I’ve worked hard to get to this point in my career and I’m ready to become a star. I want to thank my team for getting me this fight. Davis vs. Garcia is going to be one of the most watched PPV events in modern day history. My goal is to shine on the big stage and steal the show.”

On what a win will do for his career:

“With all the big fights in the super middleweight, winning this fight means everything. If I’m going to fight David Benavidez, Canelo Alvarez, Jermall Charlo or any of the other big names in boxing, I must win this fight. So, everything is on the line on April 22. A win will get me to the biggest fights in the sport.”

Falcao & Coyle looking to shine at WBA KO Drugs Fight Night

The card precedes the WBA’s annual convention and tickets are on sale at ticketmaster.com. Doors open at 3 pm and the first fight beings at 4.

Falcao puts his belt on the line against knockout artist Ernest Amuzu, 26-7 (22 KO’s), in a ten round contest. Falcao, who has an outstanding 23-1-1 record with 9 knockouts, became the NABA champion earlier this year when he defeated Damian Bonelli at the Caribe Royale. He is also rated 8th in the world by the WBC.

“Yama understands the importance of this fight,” said his promoter Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Boxing Promotions. “The WBA Convention and KO Drugs fight card are big events, so an impressive victory against Amuzu could help lead to bigger opportunities in the immediate future.”

Falcao-Amuzu opens the televised portion of the card at 7 pm et on CBS Sports Network.

Coyle, 17-0 (7 KO’s), risks his NABA middleweight crown in a ten rounder versus veteran Sladan Janjanin, 34-13 (24 KO’s). Ranked #10 by the WBA, Coyle is inching closer to a big fight on the world stage.

“As the boxing world knows, Connor was going to face Felix Cash as part of a huge event in October but the card was cancelled,” said Caliguire. “If Connor takes care of business against Janjanin, we’re looking to match him with a top ranked opponent next year.”

Coyle-Janjanian takes place prior to the CBS Sports Network telecast.

Both fighters train out of Pinellas Park, FL under Florida Boxing Hall of Famer Jim McLaughlin.

The WBA KO Drugs Fight Night is promoted by Boxlab Promotions and features nine title bouts.

Falcao dominates; Silva scores one punch knockout in Lowell, MA!

Tampa, FL (October 31, 2022) – Fire Fist Boxing Promotions’ Yamaguchi “The Problem” Falcao and Willian “Babyface” Silva scored impressive victories Saturday, October 29 in Lowell, MA.

The card was promoted by Reyes Boxing Promotions as part of their “Down and Dirty” fight series. Falcao and Silva are promoted by Fire Fist Boxing Promotions.

Falcao retained his NABA Gold, WBC Latino and WBC Feconsur super middleweight titles with a dominant ten round decision victory over veteran Alex Tehran. Falcao, a native of Brazil who resides in Florida, battered the game Tehran from bell to bell.

Scores were 100-90, 99-91 and 98-92 for Falcao, who improved to 23-1-1 with 9 wins by knockout.

Lightweight Willian “Babyface” Silva returned with a bang, scoring three knockdowns in the first round before unleashing a perfect straight right hand to knock out Carlos Gaston Suarez at the end of round two. In 2018, Suarez went four rounds against future unified champion and top 10 pound for pound fighter Murodjon “MJ” Akhmadaliev.

Silva, 29-4 (17 KO’s), looked like a brand-new fighter as he reentered the lightweight division.

“Yama and Willian looked great,” said Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Boxing Promotions. “Yama really laid a beating on Tehran and I thought he was going to retire on his stool but I give him credit for going the full ten rounds. Willian and (head trainer) Jim McLaughlin focused this camp on fighting more aggressively. He’s a completely different fighter than the one many fight fans remember seeing in some high profile fights at 135 and 140.”

Falcao and Silva’s next fights will be announced shortly.

Fire Fist Boxing Promotions’ Falcao and Silva return October 29 in Lowell, MA

Tampa, FL (October 21, 2022) – Fire Fist Boxing Promotions’ Yamaguchi “The Problem” Falcao and Willian “Babyface” Silva will both fight Saturday, October 29 part of the “Down and Dirty 4” card in Lowell, MA.

The reigning NABA Gold and WBC Latino super middleweight champion, Falcao’s outstanding professional record is 22-1 with 9 knockouts. The skillful southpaw most recently outpointed tough Abel Adriel September 17 in Tampa, FL.

The Florida-based Brazilian put his belts on the line against Alex “El

Principe” Tehran, 23-8 (15 KO’s), in a ten round contest.

Fighting for the first time since October 2021, Silva faces veteran Carlos Suarez in an eight round lightweight contest. Born and raised in Sao Paolo, Brazil, Silva’s an excellent 28-4 with 16 KO’s. He’s battled contenders and champions including Felix Verdejo, Teofimo Lopez, Arnold Barboza and Cletus Seldin.

Since announced he’d return to the 135 pound division after a run at junior welterweight, Silva’s shown a more aggressive style in camp and is ready for another big fight if all goes as planned against Suarez.

“Silva looks like a totally different fighter” said Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Boxing Promotions, Silva’s exclusive promoter. “He went up to 140 for a few big opportunities but he’s at his best in the lightweight division. Everybody will be surprised the next time they see him in the ring.”

For Falcao, Caliguire continues to seek bigger opportunities and remains confident something will come together soon.

“I’ve been in touch with multiple promoters and said Yama would fight their best super middleweights anywhere in the world but nothing’s come to fruition. I do feel we’re close to landing something, especially as Yama continues to move up the rankings. He’s one of the hungriest fighters in boxing and as we’ve stated countless times, we’ll fight any top super middleweight no matter where or when!”

“Down and Dirty 4” takes place at Lowell Memorial Auditorium and is promoted by Reyes Boxing Promotions. Tickets from $40 are on sale at shorturl.at/GINP3 or by calling 617-271-3760.  The card will also air live on Reyesboxing.tv for $9.99.

Tampa, FL (September 19, 2022) – NABA middleweight champion Connor “The Kid” Coyle and super middleweight boogeyman Yamaguchi “The Problem” Falcao of Fire Fist Boxing Promotions both scored eight round unanimous decision victories Saturday, September 17 at Alessi Fitness Center in Tampa, FL.

Fighting in front of a large and vocal group of supporters, Coyle met 68 fight veteran Silverio Ortiz of Mexico.

Ranked 9th in the world by the WBA, Coyle peppered Ortiz with a consistent jab and straight hands. The shorter Ortiz attempted to close the gap and bully Coyle but was mostly unsuccessful. When the fight was fought in close range, Coyle landed clean shots and blocked most of what was coming back his way.

Quickly tiring and visibly frustrated, Ortiz threw hard hooks to Coyle’s head but didn’t land anything of note. In the final round, Coyle finished strong and hurt Ortiz with a left hook, but the game veteran finished the fight on his feet.

Scores were 80-72 and 79-73 twice for Coyle, a Northern Ireland native who trains out of Pinellas Park, FL.

With the victory, Coyle improves to 17-0 (7 KO’s). Ortiz, who’s faced countless top-rated opponents, slips to 37-32 with 18 KO’s.

“Ortiz was a very rough and tough veteran, but Connor dominated him from bell to bell,” said Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Boxing Promotions. “It was good to see Connor stay busy as we are anticipating a significant fight in the very near future.”

Coyle’s next bout will be announced shortly.

2012 Olympic Bronze Medalist Yamaguchi “The Problem” Falcao picked up an entertaining eight round victory over ultra-rugged Argentine Abel Nicolas Adriel.

Falcao, a native of Brazil who resides in Florida, got off to a fast start and buzzed Adriel in the opening round. The skilled southpaw controlled the four rounds, displaying excellent speed and pure boxing skills while also mixing in a bit of showmanship.

Adriel picked up the pace in the second half of the fight and had his moments, but Falcao’s consistent work earned him a unanimous decision.

Falcao’s record improves to 22-1-1 with 9 knockouts. Adriel, who displayed a great chin and incredible will, slips to 26-25-3 with 5 KO’s.

“This was the perfect tune up fight for Yama,” said Caliguire. “He’s working on a lot of things with (head trainer) Jim McLaughlin and Adriel made him work. The last 5 years, Yama’s been calling for the best at 160 and now at 168 so its only up from here.”

Falcao returns to the ring October 29 and details will be announced shortly.

Representing his native Brazil, Falcao won a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympic Games. As a pro, the skilled southpaw’s an excellent 21-1-1 with 9 wins by knockout. In the last 12 month, Falcao won the WBC Latino, WBA Fedecaribe, WBC Feconsur and NABA super middleweight championships. In his most recent bout, the Florida-based Falcao defeated Damian Bonelli by unanimous decision.

Falcao’s also repeatedly expressed his willingness to fight any top super middleweight on the planet but is yet to find a dance partner.

Born and raised in Brazil but currently residing in Florida, Falcao is 21-1-1 with 9 knockouts. In his last bout, Falcao became the NABA super middleweight champion by defeating Damian Bonelli via ten round unanimous decision. Ranked #16 in the world by the WBC, Falcao’s known as one of boxing’s most avoided fighters and repeatedly expressed his eagerness to face the world’s best super middleweights.
Coyle with his new NABA middleweight title

Hailing from Derry, Northern Ireland and fighting out of Pinellas Park, FL, Coyle’s 16-0 with 7 KO’s. On May 21, Coyle earned his biggest victory to date, a spirited decision over Antonio Todd for the NABA middleweight championship. Currently rated #10 by the WBA, Coyle’s goal is to fight for a world title in 2023.

“It is important that we keep Yama and Connor in the ring so they can stay sharp as they await bigger opportunities,” said Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Boxing Promotions. “I’d like to thank Alessi Promotions for helping put this together and we’re expecting a nice crowd. Both fighters are in the gym working hard with their trainer Jim McLaughlin so they can be prepared for September 17.”

Fire Fist Boxing Update: Coyle enters world rankings, Falcao Out with Injury, Silva ready to return

Coyle powered past a very tricky foe in Antonio Todd. As seen on Bally Sports Network, the Florida based Irishman’s aggressive style earned him a well-deserved split decision victory.

The 32-year-old Coyle is 16-0 with 7 wins by knockout and is rated #13 by the World Boxing Association.

“We’re extremely proud of Connor,” said Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Boxing Promotions. “Todd was a really difficult style and a great test for Connor. There’s still work to be done but we anticipate him being in a big fight in the near future.”

Super Middleweight boogeyman Yamaguchi Falcao was forced to withdraw from his June 25 fight in Georgia after suffering a left elbow injury in training camp. Falcao, 21-1-1 (9 KO’s), won an entertaining decision over Damian Bonelli to win the NABA gold title back in March. The Florida-based Brazilian’s reiterated his willingness to face one of the top super middleweights anywhere in the world.

“This is very disappointing for Yama because this was a chance for him to stay busy since no fighter in the top 15 was willing to face him,” said Caliguire. “His elbow is swollen and we’ve got an MRI scheduled so hopefully its nothing major.”
Fire Fist Boxing also retained the exclusive promotional rights to contender Willian “Babyface” Silva of Brazil. Silva, who has an excellent 28-4 record with 16 wins by KO, was previously co-promoted by Star Boxing.

On October 16 Silva faced top rated junior welterweight Cletus Seldin for the NABA title at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. The bout was extremely competitive through six rounds but Seldin knocked out Silva with a huge overhand right early in the seventh. Silva’s career will resume in the 135 pound weight class.

“Willian moved up in weight to fight two of the best junior welterweights,” said Caliguire. “He gave it his all, but physically he’s a different fighter at 135. There are a lot of opportunities out there for him and should have something lined up shortly.”

Yamaguchi Falcao: Fighters are supposed to fight!

Tampa, FL (May 13, 2022) – Following an entertaining victory on Bally Sports Network March 26 where he captured the NABA Gold Championship, super middleweight Yamaguchi Falcao reiterated his eagerness to face the division’s best as soon as possible.

Falcao, a bronze medalist at the 2012 Olympic Games, called out the supremely talented Demetrius Andrade. Andrade was scheduled to face fellow unbeaten Zach Parker May 21 for the WBO championship. If victorious, Falcao hoped to be Andrade’s foe in his first title defense but Andrade withdrew due to an injury suffered in training.

Still, that didn’t deter Falcao.

“I was ready to face Parker in his home country on less than three weeks notice,” said Falcao, who has an outstanding 21-1-1 record with 9 KO’s. “If the fight did come together, I would’ve happily faced Andrade in my first title defense.”

Ultimately, the card was postponed and Andrade-Parker will be rescheduled in the near future.

Falcao’s promoter, Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Boxing Promotions, recently reached out to the promotional teams of Erik Bazinyan (WBA #5, WBO #8 WBC #15), Christian Mbilli (WBC #5, Ring Magazine #7), Carlos Gongora (IBF #13, WBC #14) and Lester Martinez (WBO #14). Caliguire also spoke with Golden Boy Promotions about a matchup with Shane Mosley Jr., who is coming off the biggest win of his career against Gabriel Rosado.

None of those talks lead to a potential fight.

“We’ve been extremely clear the last few years of our willingness to face the best available challengers anywhere in the world because we believe Yama can beat them all,” said Caliguire. “We reached out to a number of different promoters inquiring about matching their fighter against Yama only to be turned down. I’ve never seen anything like this!”

Falcao echoes Caliguire’s sentiment.

“I will fight any rated super middleweight, just give me a shot. I’ve won two WBC regional belts and am the current WBA-NABA Gold champion at 168 pounds. The goal with winning those belts was to get a fight against a world champion or top rated contender but they’re all refusing to face me. All I want is an opportunity so the world can see the true talent that I have!”

The ten round Falcao-Bonelli bout airs live on the Bally Sports Network, Bally Sports app and Display TV.

On February 19, the skilled southpaw destroyed once-beaten Fernando Farias in less than two rounds. A 2012 Olympic bronze medalist, Falcao has his sights set on facing the world’s best 168 pound fighters if all goes as planned against Bonelli.

On December 4 2020, Bonelli defeated the aforementioned Cuevas (23-0) and is confident he’ll emerge victorious against Falcao.

“This is a great platform for Yama to showcase his skills to fans watching around the world,” said Falcao’s promoter, Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Boxing Promotions. “Yama looked great his last fight and is fighting more aggressively but Bonelli’s a tough fighter that’s been in with outstanding opposition. This is the type of fight we need to win in impressive fashion.”

Falcao and Coyle win in Melrose, MA

Melrose, MA (February 22, 2022) – Fire Fist Boxing Promotions’ Yamaguchi Falcao and Connor “The Kid” Coyle both scored knockouts Saturday, February 19 at Memorial Hall in Melrose, MA.

Headlining a card promoted by Reyes Boxing Promotions, Falcao captured the WBC Latino Super Middleweight title via second round knockout of Fernando Ezequiel Farias.

Fighting out of his signature southpaw stance, Falcao was aggressive from the opening bell. The 2012 Olympic Bronze medalist found a home early for his jab, hook and left cross. A minute into the second, Falcao hurt Farias with a crisp left uppercut that sent him reeling towards the ropes. Moments later, Falcao put Farias down for the count with a hard left hook.

Time of stoppage was 1:21.

Falcao, who is from Brazil and currently resides in Florida, improves to 20-1-1 with 9 KO’s. Farias slips to 11-2-2 (4 KO’s).

In the co-featured bout of the evening, undefeated middleweight Connor “The Kid” Coyle of Derry, Northern Ireland kept his perfect record intact by stopping Rodrigo Rodrigues after five rounds.

Coyle, who had a significant height and reach advantage, backed Rodrigues up with many of his punches. Rodrigues looked to counter with left hooks and did land a few decent shots but it was mostly one way traffic. Coyle broke down Rodrigues with jabs and quick multi-punch combinations that shook the Brazilian up. Following a dominant fifth round where Rodrigues was battered and bloodied, his corner threw in the towel.

Coyle is now 15-0 with 7 KO’s and retained his ABF Continental Americas Middleweight title. Rodrigues slips to 8-2 (7 KO’s).

“I am very pleased with Yama and Connor’s performances,” said Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Boxing Promotions. “Yama fought much more aggressively than in the past and that is something he was working on in camp. He’s a dangerous opponent for anybody in the 168 pound division. Connor did a great job of breaking his opponent down and fighting smart. We believe this is the year he’ll become top 15 middleweight in the world.”

Falcao returns to action March 26 at the Caribe Royal Resort in Orlando, FL. Coyle’s next bout will be announced shortly.

LAS VEGAS (April 22, 2019): Brazilian 160-pound contender Yamaguchi Falcao (16-0 7 KOs) will seek to settle the score against former amateur rival Christopher Pearson (16-2, 12 KOs) in the 10-round main event of the May 2 edition of Golden Boy Fight Night at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas. The event, taking place just two days before the highly anticipated unification fight between Canelo Alvarez and Daniel “Miracle Man” Jacobs, will be streamed live globally on Facebook Watch via the Golden Boy Fight Night Page.

Falcao, a native of Espirito Santo, Brazil who lives and fights out of Plant City, FL, is an undefeated contender who is coming off a 10-round unanimous decision victory against Elias “Latin Kid” Espadas in July 2018. A bronze medalist at the 2012 Olympics, Falcao is more than ready to fight the very best of the division, but he has a tough test ahead of him as he faces a former foe in a fight that is very personal for him.

“Thanks to Golden Boy for making this fight against Christopher Pearson,” said Yamaguchi Falcao. “I know him from the Olympic trials, and this match is personal. I am focused and ready to deliver an explosive performance and show the world that I am ready and willing to compete for a world title! All we need is the opportunity, and we will fight any top-ranked boxer in the world!”

Pearson is a 28-year-old contender who is coming off two knockout victories. Like Falcao, Pearson was a decorated amateur before turning professional, and he even defeated Falcao by split decision when they met in the World Series of Boxing tournament in 2011. Though the native of Dayton, Ohio has spent the majority of his career at super welterweight, he’ll look to take advantage of more opportunities at middleweight if successful against Falcao.

“I want to thank Golden Boy for the opportunity,” said Christopher Pearson. “I look forward to putting on an impressive performance May 2 and most importantly to getting my hand raised.”

The undercard of this event will feature two exciting fighters from Golden Boy’s new co-promotional agreement with Eye of the Tiger Management as Steven Butler (26-1-1, 23 KOs) of Montreal, Canada will fight for the WBC International Middleweight Title against a soon-to-be-announced opponent in the co-main event.

Erik Bazinyan (22-0, 17 KOs), a rising middleweight contender of Quebec, Canada who is also part of this co-promotional agreement, will defend his NABA & NABO Super Middleweight Titles against Alan Campa (17-4, 11 KOs) of Guaymas, Mexico in a 10-round battle.

Las Vegas native Francisco “El Alacran” Esparza (9-0-1, 3 KOs) will fight for the vacant WBC International Silver Featherweight Title against Aram Avagyan (8-0-1, 4 KOs) of Moscow, Russia in an eight-round bout.

Hard-hitting prospect Richard “Kansas Kid” Acevedo (4-0, 4 KOs) of Garden City, Kansas will return in a four-round super welterweight fight against Mario Sosa (3-1, 3 KOs) of Tamaulipas, México.

Alexis Salazar (20-3, 8 KOs) of Tlaquepaque, Mexico will participate in an eight-round middleweight fight against Abraham Cordero (13-3-2, 7 KOs) of Guadalajara, Mexico.

Falcao vs. Pearson is a 10-round fight for the WBC Latino Middleweight Title presented by Golden Boy. The event is sponsored by Tecate “THE OFFICIAL BEER OF BOXING” and Hennessy “Never Stop, Never Settle.” The fight will take place Thursday, May 2 at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas. The fight will be streamed live globally on Facebook Watch via the Golden Boy Fight Night Page.

Yamaguchi Falcao-Chris Pearson headlines May 2 in Las Vegas

Plant City, FL (April 15, 2019) – WBC Latino middleweight champion Yamaguchi Falcao will defend his belt against Chris Pearson Thursday, May 2 at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV.

Falcao-Pearson is scheduled for ten rounds and will air live on DAZN. The bout headlines an outstanding evening of boxing brought to you by Golden Boy Promotions. Tickets from $15 are on sale by calling 702-693-5000 or online at hardrockhotel.com/las-vegas-entertainment/joint-falcao-vs-pearson-2019.php.

The two met in 2011 as part of the international amateur boxing event World Series of Boxing with Pearson winning a highly controversial split decision.

Fighting out of Plant City, FL by way of Sao Mateus, Brazil, Falcao captured a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics and is ranked #9 in the world by the World Boxing Council. As a pro, the skilled southpaw’s compiled a 16-0 record with 7 wins by knockout. Falcao was slated to fight Paul Mendez March 9 in New York but the bout was cancelled at the last minute due to issues with Mendez’ medicals.

During the last year and a half, Falcao’s repeatedly expressed his willingness to face any of the world’s best 160 pound fighters but must first get past a quality opponent.

Living and fighting out of Trotwood, OH, the hard-hitting Pearson has an excellent professional ledger of 16-2 (12 KO’s). The 28-year-old is no stranger to fighting on big platforms, most notably appearing on the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao PPV where he defeated Said El Harrak. After a setback against highly rated Justin DeLoach, he’s won his last two bouts by knockout and looks to make it three straight against Falcao.

“I am extremely grateful to be fighting on this platform,” said Falcao, who became a father last month. “It was heartbreaking when the Mendez fight fell apart on such short notice because I was looking forward to welcoming my son Roberto into this world after I beat Mendez but everything happens for a reason.”

He’s also pleased he’ll have a shot at redemption May 2.

“This fight is very personal to me. I’m planning to knock Chris out because he did not beat me the first time – the judges handed it to him! This is an even bigger opportunity than the Mendez fight because its two days before Canelo vs Danny Jacobs and now when I return home, baby Roberto will be waiting for me. This is my time to shine and show the world
I’m a problem in the middleweight division!”

Falcao-Mendez bout cancelled

Verona, NY (March 8, 2019) – The middleweight contest between WBC #8 Yamaguchi Falcao and California’s Paul Mendez was cancelled by the Oneida Indian Nation Athletic Commission due to an undisclosed issue with Mendez’ pre-fight medicals.

The matchup was scheduled to take place Saturday, March 9 at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino as part of a DAZN broadcast.

“We’re extremely disappointed,” said Falcao’s manager Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Boxing. “This was an important fight on a big platform for Yama. Unfortunately there was not enough time to get a replacement opponent and Team Falcao sends their best wishes to Mendez.”

Falcao, who is expecting his first child next week, is frustrated over the cancellation following an intense training camp.

“I had a great camp and was looking forward to celebrating a victory with my wife Juliana and our firstborn child. I apologize to all my fans but this is out of my control. I was willing to fight anybody in the world, even on short notice. I’m hoping to fight again soon because I know I’m one of the best in the world at 160 pounds.”

Hailing from Sao Paulo, Brazil but now living and fighting out of Plant City, FL, Falcao’s a perfect 16-0 with 7 wins by knockout. “March 9 is the start of what will be a great year and I expect to face the best version of Paul Mendez,” said Falcao. “I’ve been challenging all the best at 160 pounds and none have stepped up to the plate yet. The plan is to put on a great performance and show the world that I’m ready for the world’s best middleweights.”

Born and raised in Delano, CA, Mendez’ has an excellent 20-3-2 record with 10 knockouts. He owns a decision victory over longtime contender David Lopez and battled future champion Dmitrii Churdinov to a draw. On January 26, Mendez stopped veteran Israel Ornelas in three rounds.

“Falcao is the future of the middleweight division,” said Eric Gomez, President of Golden Boy Promotions. “This fight is another step towards his desired goal of becoming a world champion, we’re grateful that it will be presented by our partners at DAZN.”

“We are very thankful that Golden Boy Promotions is providing this great opportunity on DAZN” said Falcao’s manager Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Boxing. “Team Falcao is extra motivated not only to be seen by fans all across the world on DAZN but also because on the same card there are two world title fights. Yama has what it takes to be a world champion and Mendez is a very good pro in his own right so we’re making sure to be on point come March 9.”
