David Morrell Jr. retained the WBA Super Middleweight title with a 12th round stoppage of challenger Aidos Yerbossynuly at The Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Morrell bloodied and battered a tough and game Yerbossynuly all over the ring. The fight could have been stopped on several occasions.

In round 12, Morrell dropped Yerbossynuly with a perfect left hand. Yerbossynuly was deducted a point for holding. Later in the round, another left dropped Yerbossynuly again and the bout was stopped at 2:34.

Morrell, 166.5 lbs of Minneapolis, MN is 8-0 with six knockouts. Yerbossynuly, 167.25 lbs of Almaty, KAZ is 16-1.

Yerbossynuly left the venue on a stretcher to the hospital.

Brian Mendoza stopped former unified world champion Jeison Rosario in round five of their 10-round middleweight fight.

In round two, Mendoza dropped Rosario with a left hook to the body. In round five, Mendoza landed a vicious right uppercut that planted Rosario on the canvas. Rosario tried to get up, but fell back on the canvas and the fight was stopped at 35 seconds.

Mendoza, 159.25 lbs of Las Vegas is 21-2 with 15 knockouts. Rosario, 160 lbs of Santo Domingo, DR is 23-4-1.

Fiodor Czerkaszyn remained undfeated with a 10-round unanimous decision over Nathaniel Gallimore in a middleweight bout.

Czerkaszyn, 158.75 lbs of Warsaw, POL won by scores of 100-90, 98-92 and 97-93 and is now 21-0. Gallimore, 158.25 of Des Plaines, IL is 22-6-1.

Andre Dirrell stopped Yunieski Gonzalez in the 10th and final round of their light heavyweight bout.

At the end of round nine, Dirrell unleased a big flurry punches which made referee Dave Smith administer an eight-count. In round 10, Dirrell continued the assault on the bloody Gonzalez and Smith stopped the bout at 1:37.

Dirrell, 174 lbs of Flint, MI is 29-3 with 19 knockouts. Gonzalez, 174 lbs of Miami is 21-5.

Former unified world champion Julian Williams won a eight-round unanimous decision over Rolando Mansilla in a middleweight bout.

In round five, Mansilla was deducted a point for spitting out his mouthpiece.

Williams, 159.5 lbs of Philadelphia won by scores of 80-71 and 79-72 twice and is now 28-3-1. Mansilla, 158 lbs of Parana, ARG is 18-12-1.

Kent Cruz and Enriko Gogokiha fought to their second consecutive draw in a super lightweight bout.

Gogokhia took a card 78-74. That was overruled by two 76-75 scores.

Cruz, 143 lbs of Saint Louis, MO is 16-0-3. Gogokiha, 141.5 lbs of Woodland Hills, CA is 13-0-2.

Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez stopped Yunieski Gonzalez in round 10 of an exciting an entertaining 12-round light heabyweight bout at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Gonzalez started off the fight well as he was able to land some hard punches in the opening fraem. In round three, Gonzalez was deducted a point for holding the head.

In round four, they stood toe-toptoe with Ramirez rocking Gonzalez. Every time it looked like Gonzalez was going down or even stopped, he would land a hard right that would drive Ramirez back. In round five, Ramirez continued to batter Gonzalez.

As the rounds went on, Ramirez got into a boxing mode a started piling up rounds with Gonzalez staying dangerous by landing an occasional right hand. In round 10, Ramirez landed a huge barrage of punches that got through the guard of Gonzalez and even snapping his head back several times until the fight was stopped at 1:22.

Ramirez, 174.4 lbs of Mexico is 43-0 with 28 knockouts. Gonzalez, 173.8 lbs of Miami, FL is 21-4.

“He is a great fighter. I knew he was going to be tough because he showed no fear in his eyes,” said Ramirez. “He had nothing to lose, and I knew he was going to come with everything he had. Thank you Yunieski for taking the fight.

“I tried to land body shots and he was prepared. So, I had to change my attacks and focus on hitting him upstairs so I could get the victory. My hand is a little hurt but that is the price you pay to win. I am ready for the next challenge, I want Bivol. He can’t run anymore, I am coming for him,” continued Ramirez.

“I dedicate this fight to Vicente Fernandez, a great Mexican legend. I come from Mexico, and he inspired me to live my dream and I want to show everyone that they can live their dreams too. There are no barriers besides yourself,” concluded Ramirez.

“I am really disappointed in myself,” said Gonzalez. “I always knew Zurdo would be difficult, a tough fighter. But I expected more from myself. This is not the best performance from me, I’m going to back work on myself and get better.”

Estrada Stops Santizo in 4; Retains Minimumweight Title

Seniesa Estrada retained the WBA Minimumweight title with a 4th round stoppage over Previously undefeated Maria Santizo.

In round three, Estrada dropped Santizo with a hard left hook to the head. In round four, it was another left that sent Santizo down and the fight was stopped at 1:51.

Estrada, 104.6 lbs of East Los Angeles, CA is 22-0 with 14 knockouts. Santizo, 103.8 lbs of Guatamala City, GUA is 9-1.

“I give my performance a ‘C’ today because I was getting too ahead of myself. I wanted to the knockout too early so I got caught a few times trying to set it up,” said Estrada. “She was a tough fighter, she is 9-0 with 5 knock outs for a reason, so I knew she was coming in to win. But I knew I had to stop her I just had to be more patient. In 2022 I want to unify the division with a fight against IBF World Champion Yokasta Valle from Costa Rica.”

“Honestly I felt super prepared for this fight,” said Santizo. Seniesa, however, knew how to connect. We fell to the canvas but I feel good, I think maybe the stoppage was too anticipated. But I defer to the referee who is there to protect our health. Now I have to go back to the gym, train and wait for the next opportunity.”

Roach Decisions Alvarado

Lamont Roach Jr. won a 10-round unanimous decision over former world champion Rene Alvarado in a super featherweight bout.

In round five, Roach began to swell under his left eye. In round eight, Roach was bleeding from his nose.

Roach landed 163 of 522 punches; Alvarado was 141 of 881.

Roach, 129.8 lbs of Washington, DC won by scores of 100-90 and 98-92 twice and is now 22-1-1. Alvarado, 129.6 lbs of Managua, NIC is 32-11.

“I feel good about this victory. I just beat a man who was a world champion two fights ago,” said Roach, Jr. “This is the type of victory that I need to show that I am ready for a world title fight. Rene Alvarado is a warrior, a tough guy who I couldn’t knock down, but I feel we did our job today. I want the champion next, Roger Gutierrez.”

“I don’t know what to do anymore. The job we did today was excellent,” said Alvarado. “On my count I believe the fight was mine. When I heard unanimous decision, I knew that was right, but when they said Roach, Jr.’s name I couldn’t believe it. I know I won the fight.”

Marlen Esparza retained the WBC Flyweight title with a unanimous decision over Anabel Ortiz

In round two, Ortiz went down and was scored a knockdown.

Esparza, 111.6 lbs of Houston, TX won by scores of 100-88, 99-90 and 95-94 and is now 11-1. Ortiz, 111.2 lbs of Mexico City is 31-5.

“My performance was good considering I just came back after contracting Covid-19,” said Esparza. “I wanted to see what it would feel like to come back and I can say that there is some fatigue. We knew she was a counter puncher so we were prepared for it, but I can feel a little of the fatigue. Now that is all over and I know what it feels to come back, I want all the belts. I want Naoko Fujioka from Japan and just unify this division.”

“I think I delivered a great fight, simply the referee did not favor me,” said Ortiz. “He counted two slips that were obviously not knockdowns, she pushed me. I am very unhappy because they put someone in the ring who does not know how to do his job, especially when this is a world title fight. It is a disservice to the sport. They took the victory away from me.”

Victor Morales and Rudy Garcia battled to a 10-round draw featuring undefeated featherweights.

Morales won a card 97-93; Garcia won a 96-94 tally and a third card was even at 95-95.

Morales, 125.4 lbs of Vancouver, WA is 15-0-1. Garcia, 125.2 lbs of Los Angeles, CA is 12-0-1.

“I am really upset with the decision, because I feel like I won that fight,” said Garcia. “Morales is a good fighter, I know him from the amateur world, but I think that I pulled off the victory in the end. I really want the re-match to prove that I won this fight.”

“I feel like I won the fight. I feel like I broke him down from the very beginning,” said Morales. “Yes, we got hit. I got things to work on, but I still feel like I won this fight. Let’s do the re-match next, let’s run it back and prove who is the best.”

Ruslan Madiyev won a 10-round unanimous decision over Luis Hernandez in a welterweight bout.

Madiyev, 139.5 lbs of Indio, CA won by scores of 99-91 twice and 98-92 and is now 14-2. Hernandez, 141.8 lbs of Chihuahua, MEX is 21-2.

“I had seen past fight footage of Hernandez and I noticed that he kept his left hand down,” said Madiyev. “So I made sure to prepare and attack with that right hook, and I kept catching him. I am very proud of my team for the amazing preparation, and I can’t wait to come back in the ring and fight for a title soon.”

Raul Curiel stopped Kendo Castaneda in round seven of their 10-round welterweight bout.

In round three, Curiel landed a left hook that was ruled a knockdown

In round seven, Curiel dropped Castaneda with a body shot and the fight was over at 1:20.

Curiel, 146.4 lbs of Mexico is 11-0 with seven knockouts. Castaneda, 146.6 lbs of San Antonio, TX is 17-5.

John Ramirez stopped Miguel Rebullosa in round two of their four-round bantamweight fight

Ramirez scored two knockdowns and then landed heavy shots on the ropes and the fight was stopped at 2:21.

Ramirez, 117.6 lbs of Los Angeles is 8-0 with seven knockouts. Rebullosa, 118 lbs of Mexico is 4-13.

Nick Sullivan remained undefeated with a four-round unanimous decision over Erick Benitez in a lightweight bout.

Sullivan, 134 lbs of Norfolk, VA won by scores of 39-37 on all cards and is now 5-0. Benitez, 134.6 lbs of Guadalajara, MEX is 2-2.

LAS VEGAS (November 23, 2021) – Too much is at stake for “Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez for the undefeated Mexican to look past his December 18th showdown with Yunieski “The Monster” Gonzalez (21-3, 17 KOs) to World Boxing Association Light Heavyweight World Champion Dmitry Bivol.

Not only is a mandatory challenger position at stake against Cuba-born Gonzalez, the perfect 42-0 (28 KOs) record is also on the line for “Zurdo” in his 12-round WBA Light Heavyweight Title Eliminator streaming live from San Antonio (TX) on DAZN. Ramirez’ promoter, Golden Boy Promotions, is presenting this event.

“I never look past any of my opponents, so I don’t have to avoid looking past Gonzalez in this fight,” Ramirez said. “I know Gonzalez is a come-forward fighter who likes to bang and fight, so I need to be careful with my approach. Just like any other fighter, my preparation for this fight has not changed. My team and I are still focused and never look beyond what’s in front of me.”

Gonzalez, 36, has won his last three fights, five of six, including the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Fedelatin Light Heavyweight Championship two fights ago, which he captured with a second-round knockout of Alex Theran (22-4) in Miami.

“He’s the No. 2 Cuban light heavyweight,” Ramirez added. “He’s been a problem to others, so I’ll need to be my best. No fighters are the same. I know Gonzalez likes to come forward more than your traditional Cuban fighter, but who knows what his style will look like on fight night? I’m preparing for all possibilities and hope to put on a show for the fans on December 18th.”

Ramirez, the first Mexican to capture the World super middleweight crown, is rated No. 4 by the WBA, Gonzalez No. 5. Their only common opponent is Tommy Karpency, who retired after the fourth round in 2019 to “Zurdo,” and he was stopped by Yunieski in the second round this past September.

Danielito Zorilla stopped Pablo Cesar Cano in round two of a scheduled junior welterweight bout at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida

After a feeling out round one, Zorrilla landed a liver shot followed by an overhand right behind the ear for a combination that rocked Cano, who was unable to recover, earning Zorrilla the WBO NABO Junior Welterweight Championship.

Albright Stops Dutchover in 6

Nahir Albright (13-1) vs. Michael Dutchover (15-1) met in a super lightweight bout. Albright knocked Dutchover down once in the first round, once in the second and continued to control the action with his jab. Dutchover was knocked down again the third.

Dutchover’s face was bloodied in the fourth as Albright stepped up his output.  Albright landed a vicious combination at the end of the sixth that knocked Dutchover down for a three count. The doctor stopped the action at 2:59 for the TKO victory for Albright.

Madueno stops Frederickson

Undefeated Miguel Madueno (24-0) took on a very game Sonny Frederickson (21-4) in a super lightweight contest. Madueno controlled most of the action for the first four rounds, but by round five Frederickson found his rhythm and went from strictly countering to pressing the action.

In round six, Frederickson landed a few heavy bows to the head and body. Madueno was then penalized a point for holding. After more heavy trading on the inside in the seventh and eighth rounds, Madueno landed big shots and took control in the ninth, but Frederickson held on to make it into the final round.

 Round ten saw an explosion in output and power from Madueno who had Frederickson dazed and wobbly enough for referee Sam Burgos to call a halt to the action at the  2:04 mark.

Gonzalez stops Karpency

Cruiserweight and Miami hometown favorite Yuniesky Gonzalez (20-3) took only  35 punches and one and a half rounds to end Tommy Karpency’s (30-7-1)  night with a beautifully placed body shot.  González continues to show power and promise  in his comeback run.

Miami’s undefeated Bryce Henry (4-0), super welterweight, dominated Juan De Angel and stopped him in the fourth round with a right uppercut/ left hook combination.

Vasyl Lomanchenko defended the WBO Junior Lightweight title with a systematic stoppage after nine rounds over Jason Sosa at the MGM National Harbor in Nation Harbor, Maryland.

Lomachenko displayed his incredible ability, landing punches from every angle imaginable using terrific footwoork.  Sosa was extremely game and tried for every second of the fight, but he was outmatched as he went up against what some are calling the best Pound for Pound fighter in the world.

Sosa’s left eye began to swell as early s round three, and it did not get any better as Lomachenko landed quick combinations to the head and solid body shots.  In round seven, it started to look like that a stoppage was imminent as Sosa began to wilt under the enormous velocity of the punches.  Finally after round nine, trainer Raul Rivas made    the right call by saving his fighter, Sosa from any more damage and the fight was halted.

Lomachenko is 8-1 with six knockouts.  Sosa is now 20-2-4.

Oleksandr Gvozdyk stopped Yunieski Gonzalez in round three of their scheduled 10-round light heavyweight bout.

In round three, Gvozdyk landed a counter left that put Gonzalez on the deck.  Gvozdyk landed a barrage of hard shits that kept snapping the head of Gonzalez back.   Gonzalez was trying to fight back and was on weary legs until he was dumped on the canvas for a 2nd time.  His corner stopped the bout simultaneously at 2:55.

Gvozdyk is now 13-0 with 11 knockouts.  Gonzalez is 18-3.

Aleksandr Usyk retained the WBO Cruiserweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Michael Hunter.

Usyk got off to a slow start as Hunter was able to use his movement and quickness to win a couple rounds.  Usyk started to get on track and land some solid combinations in each round.

Usyk pounded the body hard in round ten, and he started to break the 2016 United States Olympian.  Usyk had a big round eleven and a bigger round twelve as he relentlessly pounded Hunter all over the ring, and was credited with a knockdown after one of those barrages forced Hunter to be held up by the ropes.  The fight could have been stopped at any point in the last minute, but Hunter was able to make it to the final bell.

Usyk, 199 1/2 lbs of Ukraine won by scores of 117-110 on all cards and is now 12-0.  Hunterm 198 lbs is 12-1.

Usyk (11-0, 10 KOs), from Kiev, Ukraine, and a 2012 Olympic gold medalist, captured the WBO cruiserweight world title in his 10th professional bout, a division record for winning a world title in the fewest fights. Usyk dethroned Krzysztof Glowacki via unanimous decision on September 17, 2016, ending the undefeated defending champion’s two-year reign. In his last fight, on December 17, Usky made his U.S. and HBO debut, successfully defending his title by knocking out world-rated contender Thabiso Mchunu in the ninth round. Considered the class of the division, Usyk trains in Oxnard, Calif. under the tutelage of Anatoly Lomachenko, father/trainer of Vasyl Lomachenko.

Hunter (12-0, 8 KOs), of Las Vegas, Nev. and a member of the 2012 U.S. Olympic team, has won five of his last seven bouts inside the distance. He scored a career-best victory in his last fight, on May 13, 2016, winning a 10-round unanimous decision over the previously undefeated Isiah Thomas to capture the NABO cruiserweight title. Hunter is currently world-rated No. 9 by the WBO

Gvozdyk (12-0, 10 KOs), from Kharkiv, Ukraine, enters this fight having won 10 of his last 12 fights by knockout, including all three of his NABF light heavyweight title fights. A bronze medalist at the 2012 Olympics, Gvozdyk captured the vacant NABF title with a second-round knockout of Nadjib Mohammedi on April 9, 2016. He successfully defended that title twice last year scoring a sixth-round TKO of Thomas Karpency on June 23 and an eighth-round stoppage of Izek Chilemba on November 19. He enters this fight world-rated No. 6 by the WBO and the World Boxing Council (WBC), and, No. 7 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF).

Gonzalez (18-2, 14 KOs), a native of Pinar del Rio, Cuba, who lives and trains in Miami, Fla. with Pedro Diaz, has collected his last nine victories by way of knockout. His only blemishes are a very disputed decision loss to former WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal and a majority decision loss to Vyacheslav Shabransky in 2015. Last year Gonzalez won both his fights by stoppage.

The non-televised undercard will feature undefeated No. 1 super middleweight contender JESSE “Hard Work” HART from Philadelphia, PA., and local favorites from the metro Washington, D.C. area, including undefeated prospects MIKE “Yes Indeed” REED and PATRICK HARRIS in separate bouts. Light Heavyweight contender Yuniesky Gonzalez (17-2 13 KO’S Miami, FL) is back in action this Friday, November 11th, at the Miami Airport Convention Center in Miami Florida. Gonzalez lost a highly debatable decision loss on HBO to former world champion Jean Pascal, July 25, 2015, in a bout where the overwhelming majority of those who saw it felt Gonzalez won the fight. He then went back on HBO and lost a close majority decision loss to undefeated world rated contender Vyacheslav Shabranskyy on December 19, 2015, which was a war all the way.

Amponsah is a hard punching fighter originally from Ghana but now residing in the Bronx, NY. Almost all of his fights have come in his native Africa and Amponsah is well aware of the opportunity in front of him and has trained very hard for the last 5 weeks preparing for this fight.

Originally from Pinar del Rio, Cuba, and now fighting out of Miami, Florida, Yunieski Gonzalez has been a feared contender in the light heavyweight division. Having suffered his first loss in a controversial decision to world title contender Jean Pascal in July, Gonzalez is eager to prove he has what it takes to be considered in the world title contention. Previously, Gonzalez held a spotless record, undefeated since his professional debut in 2010 and holding victories over Brad Austin, Edgar Perez and Jaison Palomeque. Now, the power puncher will be looking for a victory against the undefeated Shabranskyy when he headlines the HBO Latino Boxing event on Dec. 19.

Ukrainian banger Vyacheslav “Lion Heart-Chingonskyy” Shabranskyy, who is now fighting out of Los Angeles, is an exciting light heavyweight contender whose knockout power gets fans cheering every time he steps into the ring. Currently the owner of the USNBC Light Heavyweight Title, Shabranskyy is also a former two-time world champion in kickboxing, which he began at the age of 13, Shabranskyy turned to boxing when he was 16, and the sweet science has been his home ever since. On September 20, 2012, Shabranskyy debuted with a first round knockout of Bryan McGlory, and he has kept his record perfect, winning all 14 of his bouts, 12 by knockout. Included on his victorious slate are wins over fellow prospects Emmanuel Wright, D’Quan Morgan, and Rafael Valenzuela. 2015 has been a busy year for Shabransky as he has taken on and defeated Garrett Wilson, Fabiano Pena and Paul Parker.

“King” Gabriel Rosado is one of the most respected and popular middleweight fighters in the world. The Philadelphia native is known for his fearlessness in the ring, a true warrior who lives up to his claim to be willing to fight anyone, anytime at any place. A knockout victor over the likes of Jesus Soto Karass, Sechew Powell and Charles Whittaker, Rosado has also shared the ring with world champions Gennady Golovkin, Peter Quillin and David Lemieux. Eager for the opportunity to get back in the world title game, Rosado will be coming into the ring with a vengeance on Dec. 19.

Currently ranked as one of the top junior middleweights in world by the WBC, WBA and IBF, Joshua “Grand Master” Clottey is a Ghanaian powerhouse closing in on title shot. A former IBF welterweight champion who owns wins over Zab Judah, Diego Corrales and Jose Luis Cruz, the 37-year-old has four straight wins since his decision losses to boxing greats Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto. He most notably won the WBA International Super Welterweight title with a 12-round victory over Anthony Mundine in April 2014 and since then delivered a great performance against Jorge Silva on May 9, 2015.

Gonzalez vs. Shabranskyy, is a 10-round light heavyweight bout presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Star Boxing. The HBO Latino Boxing telecast begins at 12:15 a.m. ET/PT (tape delay).

Jennings vs. Ortiz is a 12-round heavyweight bout fight for the WBA Interim Heavyweight Title presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Gary Shaw Productions. Walters vs. Sosa is a 10-round junior lightweight bout presented by Top Rank in association with Peltz Boxing Promotions and Warriors Boxing Promotions. 2 fights have been added to the December 19 HBO card at the Turning Stone Resort Casino and will be shown on HBO Latino prior to the Boxing After Dark Card that will feature Luis Ortiz taking on Bryant Jennings and Nicholas Walters battling Jason Sosa according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

Gabriel Rosado will take on former Welterweight champion Joshua Clottey while Yunieski Gonzalez will take on Vyacheslav Shabranskyy in a Light Heavyweight bout.

“We worked hard to put this card together and we’re very happy with it,” Oscar De La Hoya told ESPN.com. “Four really good fights on one card. It will be a great night to end the year with a bang.”

“Clottey is going up a little bit in weight and Rosado is going down a little bit in weight,” De La Hoya said. “Besides it being a good fight, I think the winner will put himself back in line for an even bigger fight with any of the top junior middleweights or middleweights.”

“Gonzalez and Pascal was a great fight and we saw what Gonzalez could do, so we know we’re throwing Shabranskyy into the fire. But the winner will be knocking on the door to fight the best light heavyweights,” De La Hoya said. “We promote Shabranskyy and, of course, I’m rooting for my guy, but this is a 50-50 fight.”

“It was pleasant to work with Joe and we’re looking forward to doing lots more business with him in the future,” De La Hoya said.

“I like the fights for my guys and I like the card that it’s on,” he said. “It’s a high-profile card and I have high hopes for Yunieski Gonzalez coming off the last fight because I thought he beat Pascal. A lot of people thought he beat Pascal.

“For Joshua, it will be a little higher weight than usual but I think it’s the kind of card and kind of higher-profile fight that can put him in position to be where he has been — in world title contention.”

This past Saturday night Sullivan Barrera improved his record to 16-0 with 11 knockouts when he stopped Hakim Zoulikha in the 8th round of their fight at the Mandalay Events Center. On the same card, former champion Jean Pascal won a hard fought decision over Yunieksy Gonzalez of Cuba.

Barrera has been looking for a big fight and after taking a short rest, he plans to return to Big Bear and resume training with Abel Sanchez.

“I wanted to fight Pascal and after he beat my countryman I want to fight him even more. I proved once again with my fight against Zoulikha that I will stand and trade and put on a show for the fans. I want Pascal next,” said Barrera.

The 33-year-old Barrera suffered a nasty head butt that required stitches but should be ready to return to the ring before the end of the year. He said that he wants Pascal next and is willing to travel to make the fight happen.

“I have no problem going to Canada. November, December, whenever Pascal is ready to fight I am here to prove I an the best light heavyweight and get the victory for Cuba and all of the Latinos.

“Pascal ducked me once so let’s see if he takes my challenge this time. Let’s do it in Montreal on HBO. I’m not worried about the judges. I am knocking him out,” Barrera stated.

In the past two years, he’s decisively beaten Nathan Cleverly, Cedric Agnew, ring legend Bernard Hopkins and Canadian superstar Jean Pascal. One of the sport’s top attractions, thanks to his fan-friendly style, Kovalev enjoyed a banner year in 2014, earning Fighter of the Year honors from a host of boxing news organizations. This bout marks his seventh HBO appearance.

In his U.S. debut last November, Mohammedi scored a stunning first-round knockout of Demetrius Walker on the undercard of Kovalev-Hopkins. He will train for his HBO debut against Kovalev at Big Bear Lake in California.

The opening bout features former light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (29-3-1, 17 KOs) of Quebec, Canada, and undefeated Cuban-born Yuniesky Gonzalez (16-0, 12 KOs) from Miami, Florida in a 175-pound contest scheduled for ten rounds. Pascal, who previously lost by TKO to Kovalev, wants another shot at the light heavyweight title, and defeating Gonzalez should bring him that opportunity. This fight marks Pascal’s first bout outside his home country since 2008 and his fifth HBO appearance.

Gonzalez, who had a successful amateur career in Cuba, aims to disrupt Pascal’s plans with his knockout power, which has stopped his last three opponents before the end of the third round. He’ll be making his HBO debut.

Pascal possesses good speed and power in both hands; he also has a solid chin and a ton of experience. He has been competing against the division’s top fighters since 2008, which is a list that includes Bernard Hopkins twice and the division’s top light heavyweight, Sergey Kovalev.
Gonzalez has good power and has the ability to distribute punishment throughout his fights. He overwhelms his opponents before finishing them off. He is a very good inside fighter and fights with great confidence too.
Weakness
Pascal has a tendency to tire out late in fights if he does not conserve his energy properly in the earlier rounds. He also tends to get sloppy, which could cause his defense to open up a bit.
Gonzalez lacks adequate experience and has not fought top-level opposition yet. This fight against Pascal will be a major step up in competition and could be a game-changer in his young career.
Experience
Jean will have the advantage here. He has been a part of eight major title fights and holds victories over both Chad Dawson and Lucian Bute. He also currently has more than two-times as many professional bouts (32) as Gonzalez (16).
Gonzalez will be at a disadvantage. He has yet to face any top level opposition, nor has he had even half the amount of professional bouts as Pascal.

Power
Pascal has good power in both hands, especially when he puts his punches together. He has a right hand that can be a game-changer in any fight if he lands it flush.
Yuniesky possesses good power in both hands; he has a left hook that can change the direction of any fight if landed clean.
Speed
Pascal is quick, which becomes more evident in his flurries of punches, which are usually put together when he has his opponent against the ropes and he goes for the finish.
Yuniesky has good hand speed that is put on full display when he finds a weakness in his opponent. He fights very well on the inside, where his punches are fast, short, and crisp.
Endurance
Pascal will have an advantage here as he has gone 12 rounds on eight separate occasions.
Gonzalez’s endurance is still in question, he has yet to go a full 12 rounds and has only gone ten rounds once in his career (in 2012).
Accuracy
Pascal may be at a slight disadvantage in terms of accuracy, he tends to get sloppy at times when unloading flurries of punches.
Gonzalez may have a slight advantage as his accuracy becomes more evident when fighting on the inside. Then he uses his accurate body work in hopes of setting up his left hook upstairs.
Defense
Pascal likes to dictate the pace of the fight, which can mean standing in the center and trading blows. This is a tactic that allows him to take shots and leave openings in his defense that he should avoid.
Yuniesky’s offense might be his best defense. He likes to come forward and walk his opponents down, looking to break them down and finish the fight.
Chin
Pascal has a solid chin and has been in wars with some heavy-handed punchers. However, he was stopped for the first time in his career in his most recent outing against the division’s heaviest hitter, Sergey Kovalev.
Gonzalez’s chin is still yet to be seen; he has finished nine of his 16 fights by the third round. If this fight gets into the later rounds, then his chin may become an issue.
Style
Jean is an aggressive fighter who will not hesitate to stand and trade with anyone if given the opportunity.
Yuniesky is an offensive fighter who likes to move forward at all times; he tries to finish all of his opponents – and finish them early.
Crowd Support
Pascal is a popular name in the sport of boxing, so he will probably have most of the support from the fans in attendance.
Although Yuniesky is an undefeated power puncher, he is still a bit unknown to the boxing world. However, his in-your-face style could win over some of the crowd as he fights Pascal with a very similar and exciting style.
Intangibles
After coming off a tough and hard-fought defeat against the division’s best fighter, Sergey Kovalev, Pascal opted to make a quick turnaround and get right back in the ring. Instead of a tune-up bout, he will test his skills against a young, undefeated power puncher in Yunieski Gonzalez.
Gonzalez has taken a very quiet road to becoming the IBF’s #15 light heavyweight contender. Rather than test his skills against someone deeper in the ranks, he will face a former light heavyweight titleholder, and current top ten ranked light heavyweight, Jean Pascal.

Las Vegas, NV: Main Events, InterBox and Jean Pascal Promotions are proud to announce Jean Pascal (29-3-1, 17 KOs) will face Yunieski Gonzalez (16-0, 12 KOs) in the ten-round co-feature of the Kovalev-Mohammedi Unified Light Heavyweight World Championship fight on July 25 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pascal, the former WBC Light Heavyweight World Champion, looks to prove he is still a force to be reckoned with in the light heavyweight division by taking on a young undefeated prospect in Gonzalez. This will be his first fight outside his adopted home country of Canada since 2008 and his third fight in seven months. The 32-year old is originally from Port-au-Prince, Haiti and currently resides in Laval, Quebec, Canada.

“I’m eager to get back in the ring,” said Pascal. “The years where I have been very active are the ones that I’ve performed the best. Gonzalez is a good fighter and everybody knows I am not content with fighting just a regular fighter. I’m already back in the gym and focusing on July 25.”

Pascal will face a big challenge from his opponent, undefeated Cuban prospect Yunieski Gonzalez. Yunieski has a stellar 75% knockout-to-win ratio and has stopped his last seven opponents in a row dating all the way back to 2012. His previous three fights have not lasted past the third round and two of those were first-round stoppages. The 29-year old is originally from Cuba and now makes his home in Miami, Florida.

“This is the fight I have been waiting for,” said a confident Gonzalez. “I’m not punching at him, I’m punching through him and when I’m done with him he won’t be any good for anyone else.”
