Andre Kut’s KEA Boxing Promotions team is set to bring another big night of action to the famous Schuetzen Parkon Saturday night in North Bergen, New Jersey with an action packed show featuring the return of Yusaf “Mack Attack” Mack (31-7-2, 17KOs) in a six round light heavyweight battle against the hard hitting Cory “Black Ice” Cummings (17-7,13KOs). In the co-feature of the card titled “Boxing at the Park III,” welterweight prospect Juan “The Beast” Rodriguez, Jr (11-1, 5KOs) looks to bounce back from his first loss as a professional, when he takes on undefeated Philadelphian Greg Jackson (3-1,1KO) in a six round clash.

It will be a day of reckoning of sorts for former world title challenger Yusaf Mack as he faces a pivotal point in his career when he faces dangerous veteran Cory “Black Ice Cummings next Saturday night at Schuetzen Park. Recently signed with KEA Boxing, the thirty-four year old Mack knows his time is now if he is going to make a run back at a world title. In his last two fights against contenders, Thomas Williams, Jr and Cedric Agnew, Mack showed flashes, but seemed to tire as the rounds progressed, which resulted in two hard fought unanimous decision losses.

“We see the potential in Mack and believe he can once again be right back fighting for a world title,” said Andre Kut. “KEA Boxing wants to give him the best opportunity to make his world title ambitions become a reality.”

Standing in his way on Saturday night is Corey ‘Black Ice” Cummings, who can provide explosive power as witnessed by thirteen knockouts in his seventeen victories. A victory over Mack would put him back in line for even bigger paydays if he pulls off the upset.

In the co-feature of the evening, formerly undefeated welterweight Juan “The Beast” Rodriguez, Jr. looks to bounce back from his first loss of his career against present USBA welterweight title holder Sammy “The who can Mexican,” Vasquez when he takes on undefeated Greg Jackson (3-0-1) in a six round contest that is sure to provide plenty of action.

KEA boxing has once again put together an interesting undercard featuring some of the most exciting fighters in the region in competitively matched fights.

Undefeated heavyweight Tyrell Wright (6-0, 4KOs) of Jersey City, New Jersey puts his perfect record on the line when he faces the more experienced New Yorker, John Bolden (6-9, 5KOs) in a six round contest.

Rounding out the six round contests will be a crossroads cruiserweight battle as Paterson, New Jersey’s Elvin “KoKo” Sanchez (6-3-1, 5KOs) swaps punches with Johnson City, Tennessee’s Brad Austin (10-13, 7KOs) .

In a special female attraction, Connie Viruet (1-0, 1KO) of Hoboken, New Jersey and Yonkers New York’s Bertha Aricil (1-0, 1KO) put their undefeated records and perfect knockout streaks on the line in what is sure to be an explosive four round junior middleweight war.

Someone’s “0” must go as undefeated welterweights duke it out when Queens, New York’s Alex Serna (1-0,1KO) takes on interstate rival Marlon Brown of Staten Island, New York

Rounding out the card, will be a four round lightweight contest as Andrew “Sweat Pea” Bentley (1-2) looks to get back to the five hundred mark when he battles it out with Cincinnati, Ohio’s Micah Branch (2-10-1).

Tickets for this exciting night of action are as follows:

RISING STARS WADE, SPENCE JR. AND BROWNE RETURN FRIDAY, JUNE 27 AT HARD ROCK HOTEL & CASINO IN LAS VEGAS ON SHOBOX: THE NEW GENERATION ONSHOWTIME®

LAS VEGAS (June 6, 2014) – Three of boxing’s hottest prospects will be featured at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev. on Friday, June 27, as ShoBox: The New Generation on SHOWTIME® presents an exciting tripleheader that will help prove whether these young stars are ready for prime time.

In the main event, Maryland’s Dominic Wade battles New York’s Nick Brinson in a clash of middleweights. Plus, two 2012 U.S. Olympians attempt to remain unbeaten as welterweight southpaw Errol Spence Jr. meets Pennsylvania’s Ronald Cruz and light heavyweight “Sir” Marcus Browne squares off with veteran Yusaf Mack. All three bouts are scheduled for 10 rounds.

Heading out west to the Fight Capital of the World for the first time as a professional, 24-year-old Largo, Md.’s Dominic Wade (15-0, 11 KOs) has had numerous dominant performances on the East Coast, thrilling many fans along the way. Coming off a second-round technical knockout over Marcus Upshaw in April, Wade is more than ready for his headlining spot on SHOWTIME.

Albany, N.Y.’s Nick Brinson (16-1-2, 6 KOs) is a veteran of nearly six years, and with a 9-0-1 record in his last 10 fights, the 26-year-old is approaching the biggest bout of his career at precisely the right time. A New York State and WBC International Silver Champion who owns a 2013 win over Jorge Melendez, Brinson believes that he has the tools to pin the first loss on Wade’s perfect record.

A stellar amateur who represented the United States in the 2012 Olympics, Errol Spence Jr. (12-0, 10 KOs) appears to be on his way to even more success as a professional, as the powerful southpaw from Desoto, Texas has finished seven of his 12 wins in the first round. Included on this list are respected foes like Brandon Hoskins and Raymond Charles, but the 24-year-old has also shown the ability to go the distance, evidenced by his eight-round unanimous decision win over 15-0-1 Emmanuel Lartey.

Born in Manati, Puerto Rico and now fighting out of Bethlehem, Pa., the popular Ronald Cruz (20-3, 15 KOs) has built quite a following with his hard-nosed style in the ring. A former WBC Continental Americas champion who has defeated Prenice Brewer, Jeremy Bryan and Hector Munoz, the 27-year-old is coming off of a tough decision loss to former world champion Kermit Cintron this past March, but his effort in defeat gained him even more credibility.

The fighting pride of Staten Island, N.Y., 2012 United States Olympian “Sir” Marcus Browne (10-0, 7 KOs) has soared up the light heavyweight ladder since his professional debut in 2012, and after wins over veteran competitors like Kevin Engel and Otis Griffin, the talented 23-year-old is ready for a step up against the well-regarded Yusaf Mack on June 27.

A proud member of Philadelphia’s fighting fraternity, 34-year-old Yusaf Mack (31-7-2, 17 KOs) still has the fire to battle the best and he expects to give Browne a rude welcome to big-time boxing. Hoping to snap a three-fight losing streak, the former USBA, NABF and NABA champion knows that a win will put him back on the right track for a world title.

Wade vs. Brinson is a 10-round middleweight bout presented by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Corona. Doors open at 2 p.m. PT on fight night with the first bell sounding at 2:30 p.m. PT and the first televised bout starting at 6:30 p.m. PT. The ShoBox: The New Generation telecast will air live on SHOWTIME beginning at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast), immediately following the premiere of ALL ACCESS: Canelo vs. Lara.

Tickets priced at $100, $75, $50 and $25, plus applicable taxes, fees and service charges, are on sale now at The Joint Box Office, online at AXS.com or by calling 888-9-AXS-TIX

OFFICIAL WEIGHTS ‘True Brit: Froch vs. Mack’ Live Saturday on PPV & GFL

IBF Super Middleweight Championship (12)
CARL FROCH (29-2, 21 KOs), Champion, Nottingham, UK 167 ½ lbs.
vs.
YUSAF MACK (31-4-2, 17 KOs), Challenger, Philadelphia, PA, USA 168 lbs

Froch quotes from today’s official weigh-in: “I’ve trained just as hard for this fight as I did for the Bute fight. The training, the physical side of it: the runs, the groundwork and the sparring, have been just as hard as last time. You’ve got to be in tip-top shape for every single fight, if I turned up 50-percent fit for Mack then I’m probably going to get beat. It’s as simple as that. I can’t just take my foot off the gas and think, ‘Oh, I’ve got an easy fight.’ There’s no such thing as an easy fight, so I turn up fully prepared for whoever I’m fighting.

“This is a World title fight so he’ll come and try to cause an upset. He can punch a bit, because he’s a light heavyweight, so he’s going to probably try to catch me out early on and maybe let a barrage of shots off early. So, I need to be cute, clever and box behind my jab and just find my feet for the first three or four rounds before I close the distance and close that fighting gap and start letting some artillery go.

“I’ve made the mistake in the past of not turning up 100-percent and I nearly came unstuck against Dale Westerman. It was the warm-up fight before I boxed Brian Magee, defending my British title, and it was a hard night’s work. It was tough. It was nine rounds of me getting my head punched in until I closed the show in the ninth. But that was supposed to be an easy walk in the park for me but it was probably one of my hardest fights because I wasn’t fully prepared. I took him lightly. I’m too professional to not take this guy seriously.

“I’ve sparred a lot with Tony Bellew – a World champion in waiting, in my opinion – done some hard, long runs and some hill-work which is very difficult and my groundwork has stepped up a level and I’m feeling it. It builds-up getting harder and harder, until fight week when I take my foot off the gas, recover and then explode tomorrow. I’m going to be ready.”

Froch blasts Mack’s attack ‘True Brit: Froch vs. Mack’ PPV Live Saturday on PPV & FIGHT NOW TV in U. S.

HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 14, 2012) – International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight champion Carl “The Cobra” Froch (29-2, 21 KOs) has warned challenger Yusaf Mack (31-4, 17 KOs) that he will pay for his pre-fight jibes when the pair meet Saturday, headlining the “True Brit” pay-per-view event (in the U.S.), live from Nottingham, United Kingdom.

“True Brit,” presented by Matchroom Boxing, will be distributed in the United States by Integrated Sports Media for live viewing at 3:00 PM/ET – 12:00 PM/PT on both cable and satellite pay-per-view via iN Demand, DIRECTV, DISH Network and Avail-TVN for a suggested retail price of only $29.95.

“True Brit” will also be available to view via online at: http://www.gfl.tv/Events/Fight/Boxing/True_Brit_Froch_vs_Mack/1722.

Mack appeared live on Ringside after the first press conference for the clash and called Froch, “a fake Joe Calzaghe.” The pair came face-to-face again at yesterday’s press conference at the Capital FM Arena, and “The Cobra” told the challenger that he will “face his wrath” in his ninth consecutive World title fight.

“I was just letting him know that he said too much when my back was turned and it might be inside his mind that I’m a bit wound up,” said Froch, a huge 1-18 favorite by Betfair to retain the title and 1-4 to do so inside the distance. “I just wanted him to know he talked a load of rubbish on Ringside about Joe Calzaghe, but he probably spoke without thinking, so I put him right on that.

“I have to put on a good performance, be strong, sharp and confident, put my work together and put educated pressure on him because he could be dangerous. He’s not a big and tall light heavyweight, so he could be better at super middleweight. I’m not taking anything for granted and I am making sure that I do my work right and that will be enough to defend my title in style.”

Mack is a big 15-1 underdog with Betfair to claim Froch’s IBF crown but the Philadelphian is confident that he has “The Cobra” rattled and he will be able to use that to shock the world.

“I got under his skin with the Calzaghe comment and I hope that’s to my advantage on the night,” Mack added. “On Saturday, I’m going to prove that I’m ready for this fight. I’ve lived in the gym and I’ve given myself the chance to show that I am the fighter I can be. I really believe I’m going to be taking the belt home.

“I haven’t come to fight the crowd. I’ll block them out on Saturday and I have nothing to prove to them. Froch has the pressure to impress them, not me; he’s said he’s going to knock me out so the pressure is on him to do that. When I’m still standing there after the sixth round, when people think I’m going to tire, what’s he going to do? I don’t fade and he can’t beat me.”

Bellew, rated No. 10 by The Ring Magazine, has lost only once as a professional, last year in his only World title challenge fight to undefeated WBO champion Nathan Cleverly in a hotly-contested 12-round majority decision.

Bolonti, who is rated No. 5 by the WBC, as well as No. 10 by the World Boxing Association (WBA) and IBF, is shooting for his 27th consecutive victory, fighting for the first time outside of his native Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Mack predicts upset of Froch for World title ‘True Brit: Froch vs. Mack’ PPV Live Saturday on PPV AND GFL

HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 12, 2012) – Challenger Yusaf Mack broke training camp yesterday in his hometown of Philadelphia and departed for England to fight International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight champion Carl “The Cobra” Froch (29-2, 21 KOs), headlining Saturday night’s (Nov. 17) “True Brit” pay-per-view event (in the U.S.), live from Froch’s hometown in Nottingham, England.

“True Brit,” presented by Matchroom Boxing, is being distributed in the United States by Integrated Sports Media for live viewing at 3:00 PM/ET – 12:00 PM/PT on both cable and satellite pay-per-view via iN Demand, DIRECTV, DISH Network and Avail-TVN for a suggested retail price of only $29.95.

as well as online at:

http://www.gfl.tv/Events/Fight/Boxing/True_Brit_Froch_vs_Mack/1722.

IBF No.5-ranked Mack (31-4, 17 KOs) has been fighting as a light heavyweight for the past five years. He lost his lone world title shot to IBF 175-pound champion Tavoris Cloud by eighth-round technical knockout in 2006.

“I feel good,” Mack said last week from the famed Shuler Gym in Philly. “Training camp has been going real good with sparring partners like Steve Cunningham. I just want to prove I’m a world champion. I’ve been there before and fell short. I will reach my goal this time to be world champion.

“Froch is a good fighter but he’s never fought anybody like me. Once Froch feels my power, he’ll respect me. He won’t be rushing in fighting a bigger, stronger guy like me. I’m going to out-slick him like (Andre) Ward did. He’s got more to prove than me. He’s fighting for his whole country. I have nothing to prove; he has to beat me.”

Ward (2-0) vs. Dan Carr, middleweight Ryan “Tank” Aston (7-1, 3 KOs) vs. Tyan Booth (11-6-1, 2 KOs), and featherweight Leigh “Leigh-thal” Wood (4-0, 1 KO) vs. Gavin Reid. Froch Predicts KO Win in ‘True Brit: Froch vs. Mack’ Live Saturday on PPV

HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 8, 2012) — International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight champion Carl “The Cobra” Froch (29-2, 21 KOs) defends his title Saturday, November 17 against American challenger Yusaf Mack (31-4, 17 KOs),headlining the”True Brit” event, which will air in the United States live from Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, United Kingdom.

Froch graciously answered a series of questions about Saturday’s fight against Mack:

Q. You’ve made many fans in the states over the past few years. How does it feel to have this fight airing live in the states?

Froch: “It’s always fantastic to be boxing on US TV. I’ve boxed in the States four times and I’ve always enjoyed myself there. My training camp was in Manhattan (New York City) before the Andre Ward fight. It was tough there because it was getting close to Christmas and it was insanely busy, but my morning run was always great, taking in the New York skyline as I was pounding the streets – incredible.

“I’ve always been well received by American boxing fans. They really know their stuff. I think that they appreciate that I am a good, honest fighter who never backs away from a challenge and always wants to fight the best. Too many fighters try to coast through their careers and don’t test themselves, so I’m glad I’ve had those fights in the States and they were great experiences. And there’s a good chance that there’s still a big fight for me over in America before I hang up the gloves.”

Q. You’ve had an unprecedented run against many of the world’s top fighters, starting with Pascal through your last against Bute. Can you remain as “up” fighting Mack who doesn’t have the same credentials as your last 8 opponents, particularly with a Bute rematch already slated?

Froch: “Absolutely. At this level, and as a World champion, there’s no second in a fight that you can let your guard down and you have to be at 100 percent. I have prepared as hard for this fight as I did for the previous eight world title fights, for my British title fights, for my Commonwealth title fights and for my debut back in 2002.

“If I come unstuck in this fight then everything I have achieved over the last few years will go to waste. People ask me about Lucian Bute, Andre Ward and Mikkel Kessler fights, so I answer their questions. It’s only natural for them to ask; they are fights people want to see, but believe me, I only have Yusaf Mack on my mind.”

Q. Does Mack remind you of any fighter you’ve already fought? What are his strengths?

Froch: “The best thing about this fight is that Yusaf is like nothing I’ve ever fought before and that’s what sport should be – a fresh challenge every time. He’s a natural light heavyweight who is dropping down, so he’s a puncher but also a nice boxer and a mover, too. You don’t get World title shots for no reason. He can more than handle himself in the ring and I know that I have to be completely focused on the fight as this guy is dangerous and he wants to shock the world of boxing by taking my belt, in my hometown.

“So, I’ve got to give this guy respect and take him very seriously because this is his world title fight, and his big opportunity to come over here and cause an upset. I know that he’s going to be training and running harder than ever for this. Whatever you’ve seen of him before, add 20 percent for this fight. I’ve got to be ready, and I will be.”

Q. He has been fighting as a light heavyweight. Is there any concern on your part about Mack possibly being the stronger man?

Froch: “I am stronger than him, no question. I don’t think there’s a super middleweight out there in better shape than me, and there are some super-fit guys in this division. But I can honestly say I feel in incredible shape, fit as I’ve ever been, and I am convinced that he won’t be able to match me for heart, punch power, desire and skill.

“He’ll be bringing that light heavyweight power down to super middle though, I know that. I have to be watchful of him every second that he’s in there. I have been sparring with Tony Bellew for this fight. He is a great sparring partner and a World champion in the making at light heavyweight. He has a tremendous dig on him and we have some great battles in sparring, so I don’t have any issues with whatever Yusaf Mack is going to bring to the table.”

Q. What type of fight do you expect this to be: war, chess match, etc.?

“I expect him to come at me with everything he’s got as he has nothing to lose and everything to gain. He will have seen what I did to Lucian Bute. He knows that if I get into a rhythm, and get my shots off, it’s goodnight. So, he’ll be at me from the start, wanting to make an impression to get me on the back foot, and I’ll be doing the same. It’s going to be a ferocious pace and great to watch.”

Q. Any prediction?

“I’m not one for picking a round, but I think that it’s going to be a knockout night for me again in front of my home fans. Yusaf Mack has never been in an atmosphere like a sold-out Carl Froch show in Nottingham. The viewers are in for a real treat. When my fans get behind me, my punches are that much harder, and he’ll be in real trouble on the night.”

Bellew Eyes World Title Fight Against Dawson ‘True Brit: Froch vs. Mack’ Live Nov. 17 in U. S. on PPV

HOBOKEN, N.J. (November 6, 2012) – Light heavyweight title contender Tony “The Bomber” Bellew wants to set up a clash with World Boxing Council (WBC) light heavyweight champion “Bad” Chad Dawson, if Bellew beats Roberto Bolonti for the vacant WBC Silver title on the November 17th “True Brit” pay-per-view event, airing live in the United States from Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, England.

“True Brit,” presented by Matchroom Boxing, will be distributed in the U. S. by Integrated Sports Media for live viewing at 3:00 PM/ET – 12:00 PM/PT on both cable and satellite pay-per-view via iN Demand, DIRECTV, DISH Network and Avail-TVN for a suggested retail price of only $29.95.

Bellew believes Dawson is the best light heavyweight in the world and a win over Argentine Bolonti, in the “True Brit” chief support bout to International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s title defense against Yusaf Mack, should propel Bellew into the WBC top five.

The Liverpool boxer has his sights set on the WBC World title and while he would like to become Dawson’s mandatory challenger, Bellew isn’t ruling out an IBF World title shot against Tavoris Cloud.

“I want to put the pressure on someone like Chad Dawson to face me,” he said. “I am not a lucrative match for people to face and I believe I am maximum risk and minimal reward, so I have to force one of these champions into facing me.

“It might not be a WBC it might be an IBF challenge to Tavoris Cloud, I don’t know which it is going to be but all I want to do is become a mandatory challenger, very similar to the way Kell Brook has done it.

“Roberto Bolonti is another step in the right direction, it is a WBC eliminator and it is for the Silver title. He is number five with the WBC and this should propel one of us into the top three in my opinion, so I am hoping to get fast tracked to the WBC and I have stated for a long time that the WBC is the belt I would like to win. I believe it is the best belt in boxing, so it would be a dream come true.

“I believe Chad Dawson is the best light heavyweight in the world. I know he had the contentious fight with Jean Pascal but I believe he would have stopped Pascal if the fight would have been allowed to carry on, so I think Pascal got really lucky the cut came when it did.

“I do believe that Dawson is the best in the division and aside from him I feel everyone is on a level playing field. Bernard Hopkins, in terms of experience, is up there with Dawson but as an actual fighter I believe Dawson is proven to be the best light heavyweight out there. But I would be happy to fight him. There is now a blueprint to beat Chad Dawson after what Andre Ward did to him, so I would be happy to go in there and carry out what Ward did to him.”

Froch’s last fight at home? ‘True Brit: Froch vs. Mack’ Live Nov. 17 in U. S. on PPV

HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 30, 2012) — With a rematch against former World champion Lucian Bute still on the cards, as well as potential grudge rematches against Andre Ward and Mikkel Kessler in International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight champion Carl “The Cobra’s” Froch’s future, the 34-year-old British favorite admitted that his November 17th title defense against Yusaf Mack, headlining the “True Brit” pay-per-view event (in the U.S.), could be his last fight at home in Nottingham, England.

“If the Bute fight happens,” Froch explained, “it will be in Canada, and rematches with Ward and Kessler could well happen in America and Denmark, so this could well be my last fight in Nottingham.”

Froch and Mack headline an exciting night of boxing on Nov. 17 with Tony Bellew aiming to seal his second World light heavyweight title shot in a World Boxing Council (WBC) title eliminator against Argentine invader Roberto Bolonti.

“True Brit” will also be available to view via Fight Now TV, America’s only 24-hour combat sports and entertainment channel, on Cablevision channel 464 as part of the iO Gold package.

Froch (29-2, 21 KOs), rated by The Ring Magazine as the No. 1 contender in the world, captured the IBF title in his last fight on May 26 with an impressive fifth-round technical knockout of previously undefeated champion Bute (30-1). In the past four years, his last eight fights have been against a Who’s Who of the 168-pound division with victories over Bute, Glen Johnson (DEC12), Arthur Abraham (DEC12), Andre Dirrell (DEC12), Jermain Taylor (TKO12) and Jean Pascal (DEC12). Froch’s only losses were by 12-round decisions to unbeaten World Boxing Council (WBC)/World Boxing Association (WBA) king Ward in the final of the Super Six Tournament, and four-time World champion Kessler during the aforementioned tournament. Seven of his last eight opponents, excluding Dirrell, have been world champion.

IBF No.5-ranked Mack (31-4, 17 KOs) has been fighting as a light heavyweight since 2008. He lost his only world title shot to IBF 175-pound champion Tavoris Cloud by eighth-round technical knockout in 2006.

“I’m in fantastic shape and itching to get in there again,” Froch said. “The Bute fight was special and the best night of my career, but there’s no chance I’ll take my foot off the pedal on November 17. Yusaf is a dangerous customer and he has nothing to lose coming here and everything to gain. Yusaf has fought for a World title at light heavyweight and he is going to be doing everything he can to prove himself at super middleweight.”

Bellew (18-1, 12 KOs) and South American champion Bolonti (30-1, 19 KOs) will fight in the 12-round co-feature, an official WBC eliminator to become champion “Bad” Chad Dawson’s mandatory challenger, with the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver light heavyweight championship on the line.

Bellew, rated No. 10 by The Ring Magazine and No. 14 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO), has lost only once as a professional, last year in his only World title challenge fight to undefeated WBO champion Nathan Cleverly by 12-round majority decision.

Bolonti will be going for his 27th consecutive victory on Nov. 17. Fighting outside of his native Buenos Aires, Argentina for the first time, Bolonti is rated No. 5 by the WBC, No. 10 by the WBA and IBF.

The PPV card, pending time restrictions, will also showcase some of Britain’s top, young fighters, including bantamweight prospect Khalid “Kal” Yafai (3-0, 2 KOs), a 2008 Great Britain Olympian, vs. TBA, lightweight Scott “Scotty” Cardle (5-0, 1 KO) vs. Joe Elfidh (7-2), former European middleweight champion Kerry Hope (17-4, 1 KO) in a six-round tune-up vs. TBA prior to his December 8th showdown with Darren Barker, lightweight Martin J. Ward (2-0) vs. TBA, middleweight Ryan “Tank” Aston (7-1, 3 KOs) vs. Tyan Booth (11-6-1, 2 KOs), and featherweight Leigh “Leigh-thal” Wood (4-0, 1 KO) vs. Gavin Reid (6-16-1, 3 KOs). All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Froch vows to show he’s on top of the World ‘The Cobra’ meets Yusaf Mack at press conference

HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 12, 2012) — Carl Froch has warned Yusaf Mack that he will be in for a rough night in Nottingham, England when he challenges “The Cobra” for his International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight title in Betfair’s ‘True Brit’ on November 17.

“True Brit” will also be available to view via Fight Now TV, America’s only 24-hour combat sports and entertainment channel, on Cablevision channel 464 as part of the iO Gold package.

Froch welcomed the American light heavyweight champion into his fortress at the Capital FM Arena as Britain’s No. 1 fighter boxes in his ninth consecutive World title fight.

“The Cobra” met Mack for the first time in a press conference at the Arena where five months ago he ripped the IBF title from unbeaten Lucian Bute with a stunning fifth round stoppage. Froch has vowed to put thoughts of a rematch with the Canadian and a future bout with old foe Mikkel Kessler to one side as he prepares for his 15th contest in the Arena against the Philadelphian.

“After beating Lucian I feel like I’m back on top of the World,” said Froch. “I’m in great shape. I’m running faster than ever. I am breaking records in training and I’m surprising myself, so at 35 I feel like I’m at my peak and that there’s plenty more to come.

“People have been asking me when I plan to hang the gloves up – a year, 18 months – I’m not going to out a time frame on it, as long as I have the desire to keep getting up and doing the hard training which I have, then I’m still going to be going.

“He’s coming over to the lion’s den and there’s only going to be one winner – I’ll do whatever I can to put Yusaf Mack on his back.”

Mack fights for a World title for the second time in his career having challenged Tavoris Cloud for the light heavyweight crown last June and promises to give everything on November 17.

“I’m here to give a champion the fight of his life,” said Mack. “Come fight night, its going down. I’m back at my preferred weight and I’m not coming to England to lay down.”

HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 9, 2012) — Integrated Sports Media, the pound-for-pound king of sports distribution in North America, announced today that it will distribute “True Brit” in the United States, featuring International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight champion Carl “The Cobra” Froch defending against challenger Yusaf Mack, on Saturday afternoon, November 17, live from Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, United Kingdom.

“Carl Froch is one the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world today,” Integrated Sports media president Doug Jacobs said. “He’s also one of the most popular and entertaining boxers who American fans can’t get enough of. His title defense against Yusaf Mack certainly will draw interest from his hometown fans in Philadelphia. The light heavyweight title fight, featuring a pair of world-class fighters, will introduce Britain’s Tony Bellew and Argentina’s Roberto Bolonti to American boxing fans. Integrated Sports is very happy to be delivering ‘True Brit’ in the U.S.”

“I am delighted that ‘True Brit’ will be available in America on pay-per-view and for subscribers of Fight Now TV,” said Froch’s promoter and Matchroom Sport managing director Eddie Hearn. “It’s going to be a fantastic night of boxing in Nottingham, with Froch and Mack leading the way. Carl has a great fan base in the States after some fantastic performances there and his win over Lucian Bute proved he is one of the most exciting sportsmen on the planet. This is a fight not to be missed with a brilliant undercard of young British fighting talent led by Tony Bellew that I know the US fans are going to love to watch.”

Froch (29-2, 21 KOs) captured the IBF title in his last fight, May 26 with a stunning fifth-round technical knockout of previously undefeated champion Lucian Bute (30-1). In his last eight fights, dating back to 2008, Froch has defeated Bute, Glen Johnson (DEC12), Arthur Abraham (DEC12), Andre Dirrell (DEC12), Jermain Taylor (TKO12) and Jean Pascal (DEC12), losing only to unbeaten Andre Ward (DEC12) in the final of the Super Six Tournament and Mikkel Kessler (DEC12). All but Dirrell have been world champion. Froch, who will be fighting in his hometown, is world rated by The Ring Magazine as the No. 1 contender.

Mack (31-4, 17 KOs) has been fighting as a light heavyweight since 2008. He is the reigning United States Boxing Association 175-pound title-holder and rated No. 6 by the IBF. The 32-year-old Mack is a typically tough Philly fighter who lost his only world title shot to IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud by eighth-round technical knockout in 2006. Mack, who was leading on two of three judges’ scorecards after seven rounds (68-65, 67-66, 66-67) against Cloud, has defeated, among the more notables, Omar Sheika, Chris Henry, Daniel Judah. Three of his four career losses have been to world champions – Cloud, Johnson and Alejandro Berrio – and the other to two-time world title challenger Librado Andrade.

UK fan favorite Bellew (18-1, 12 KOs) takes on South American champion Bolonti (30-1, 19 KOs) in the 12-round co-feature for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver light heavyweight championship and an official WBC eliminator.

Bellew, rated No. 10 by The Ring Magazine and No. 14 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO), is coming off of impressive back-to-back victories over Edison Miranda (TKO9) and Danny McIntosh (TKO5), following Bellew’s only career to undefeated WBO champion Nathan Cleverly last year by 12-round majority decision.

Bolonti (30-1, 19 KOs) is riding a 26-fight winning streak into his Nov. 17 fight with Bellew. The Argentinean will be fighting outside of his native Buenos Aires, Argentina for the first time. He is rated No. 7 by the WBC, as well as No. 10 by the World Boxing Association (WBA) and IBF.

The entire PPV card, pending time restrictions, will also showcase some of Britain’s top prospects such as lightweights Scott “Scotty” Cardle (5-0, 1 KO) and Martin J. Ward (2-0), in separate bouts, bantamweight Khalid “Kal” Yafai (3-0, 2 KOs), middleweight Ryan “Tank” Aston (7-1, 3 KOs), and featherweight Leigh “Leigh-thal” Wood (4-0, 1 KO). All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Alexander struggles to split decision over Matthysse

Coming off his first professional loss to Timothy Bradley this past January, Devon Alexander rebounded (sort of) by taking a controversial split decision over Lucas Matthysse in a ten round Jr. Welterweight bout at The Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri.

Matthysse landed the harder shots as he featured the left to the body and right hands upstairs. In round four, Matthysse landed a perfect right to the head that sent Alexander down for the first time in his career. Alexander fought hard as he mixed up trading with the puncher and moving back to gain room to operate.

Matthysse fought very well in the second half of the fight by landing power shots and causing some tense moments for Alexander. Matthysse had a big round seven as he landed numerous right hands and body work. Alexander followed suit in round nine with some solid left hands of his own.

Both guys tried to impose their will in the final round but it was Matthysse who landed the better shots and even opening up a cut around the right eye of Alexander.

When the scores were announced, it was Alexander who had his arm raised by taking the fight by the scores of 96-93; 95-94 while Matthysse took a card 96-93.

Alexander, 139 1/2 lbs of St. Louis is now 22-1. Matthysse of Argentina is now 28-2.

Tavoris Cloud defended his IBF Light Heavyweight championship with a hard fought eighth round stoppage over Yusaf Mack.

Mack fought very well over most of the fight as he boxed and moved and stuck to his gameplan. Cloud got through with some good power shots that Mack took very well. Mack was actually doing well in the eighth round until he got caught with a left to the side of his face that stunned him. Cloud jumped on Mack and landed five shots that sent him to the canvas over the bottom rope.

Mack was up at referee Sam Williams count of six but was still very dazed and when he was asked to walk towards the referee, Mack stood still and fight was waved off at 2:57 of round eight.

Mack, 175 lbs of Tallahassee, FL is now 22-0 with nineteen knockouts. Mack, 174 1/4 lbs of Philadelphia is now 29-4-2.

Bermane Stiverne made his plea to call himself heavyweight contender with a one-punch knockout over former world title challenger Ray Austin in round ten of a scheduled twelve round Heavyweights bout.

Austin had success early with the jab as he used his 6’5″ height to his advantage. Stiverne rocked Austin several times such as in round two with a left hook as he looked for one shot to end the things. Austin was deducted a point after round three by lunging a shoulder in to Stiverne after the bell. Stiverne continued to land the bigger shots while Austin was looking to box by featuring his jab.

Stiverne was very effective in round’s seven and eight by working the body and landing some nice power shots. In the first minute of round ten, Stiverne missed with a right but connected with a big right that sent Austin to the canvas.

Austin barely beat referee Mike England’s count but the fight was stopped forty-four seconds into the round.

Stiverne, 238 1/2 lbs of Miami, is now 21-1-1 with twenty knockouts. Austin, 238 lbs of Cleveland, OH is 28-6-4.

Devon Alexander: “Matthysse is a rough and tough fighter. I brought the fight out in me because people had their doubts about my abilities as a boxer.

“The knockdown [first of his career] was a flash knockdown [in the fourth round]. I had to pull it out. I was having flashbacks from my last fight with Bradley, and I wasn’t going to lose two fights in a row. As a matter of fact, I’m never going to lose again.”

Kevin Cunningham: (trainer and manager of Devon Alexander) “I didn’t enjoy watching a rugged, tough guy like Matthysse in there with my fighter. I knew it was gonna be tough. I didn’t want to see my fighter trading with a puncher like Matthysse, but because of all the criticism he took after the Bradley fight, he felt he had something to prove in his hometown.

“I think when Devon reviews the tape of the fight, he’ll see that he was at his most effective when he was using his boxing skills to the fullest.”

Lucas Matthysse: “I gave it my all. It was a tough fight but I thought I won. Once again, I was robbed. He’s lucky he won the fight. I thought when I put him down, I’d finish him off but I couldn’t.”

Tavoris Cloud: “Yusaf Mack is a good fighter. I can’t take nothing away from him. I just caught him with some good shots.

“If you noticed, he was tiring down. I heard him breathing hard during the last three rounds. I was telling him, ‘You’re tired, aren’t you?’

“The whole game plan was to go to the body. He wasn’t hurting me. I knew he was a bouncy-bouncy guy, an in-and-out guy. I wore him down with body shots and took him out.

“Jean Pascal is here tonight. If he’s ready, I’m ready. I’m ready for anybody.”

Yusaf Mack: “He kept clipping me on the top of the head. I kept telling the ref about it but he only warned him once. The ref told me to stop holding him.

“I thought my plan was working well.

“The first shot in the corner dazed me but it was on the top of the head. The final punch was on top of the head also.”

Bermane Stiverne: “I knew he was going to try and box me but he often drops his right hand. I kept listening to his corner. Whatever they said, he did. So I started anticipating that. It became a big advantage for me.

“I was a little too lax but I felt good tonight. I was looking for the perfect shot instead of establishing my jab. The perfect shot did come in the 10th round. It was a short shot, a half-hook right hand that did him in.”

I’m on my way to my first world championship. I can feel it. I still have a lot to learn and I can get better.”

Ray Austin: “I was waiting ‘til he [the referee] reached eight [in his count during the 10th round]. In the dressing room before the fight, he told me as long as I am up by nine it would be OK. Then I got up and bounced around to let him know I was ready. So I got up at eight and bounced around on my feet to let him know I was ready and he stopped the fight. How many rounds do you think I won? [Austin was winning on two cards at the time of the stoppage.]

“After I win on June 25th, The Light Heavyweight division will run through Philadelphia with Bernard and I ruling the division. This has been the best training camp of my life and if Tavoris thinks he is seeing the same guy who fought Glen Johnson, then that will be his problem on June 25th.”

ESPN’s Friday Night Fights broadcast got off to an explosive start with former 2 time Olympic Gold Medalist Guillermo Rigondeaux 5-0 (4KO) throwing 3 punches and ending the night early with a 1st round KO over Adolfo Landeros 20-12(9). The first punch was a straight left hand that rocked Landeros. The next two came in form of a right hook and a scooping left body shot that floored the underdog, down and out! The end came at just 28 seconds of the first round.

Light heavyweight Glen “The Road Warrior” Johnson 50-13(34KO) was dominate in a 6th round TKO win over Philadelphia’s Yusaf Mack28-3 (17KO).

Both fighters answered the opening bell with respect for one another’s skill and power. Johnson applied early and steady pressure winning the first three rounds. An excellent exchange started and ended an excellent fourth round. Johnson caught Mack in the corner in round 6 and overwhelmed him with combinations and dropped the Philly fighter in his own corner. Johnson showed his wealth of experience in continuing with a steady and calm attack which dropped Mack two more times before the end came at 2:21 of round 6. Mack was caught on the ropes for the majority of the bout.

We caught up with Glenn Johnson and his head trainer Orlando Cuellar immediately after the fight and asked them how did you get Yusaf to fight your fight? (Glen and his trainer) “By utilizing the jab, continually coming forward and going to the body often” (trainer) “Glen looks like he would be easy to match up against but his style is tough to figure out”

Welterweight Ed Paredes ignited the crowd and made a big statement on the way to a 2nd round knockout over Joey Hernandez 15-1-1. Paredes 24-3(15KO) and Hernandez fought to a draw late of 2009 and picked up the great action from the opening bell. Both fighters found their mark in a very good action packed round one with both fighters landing some solid shots. The stark contrasting styles of the two fighters made for an action packed first. Shortly after the opening bell in round two the fighters stood in close and Paredes set up a beautiful picture perfect left hook that dropped Hernandez down and out. The end came at 1:53 of the 2nd round. This brings the first loss to Hernandez’s career.

Yudel Jhonson improves to 5-0 (3KO) with a big KO1 win over Dorian Beaupierre 12-6(6KO). The end came 2:18 of the first round.

Q & A with Yusaf Mack

Firstly you will be fighting Glen Johnson on 5 February. It has the makings of a very good fight. How do you see it?

Yeah I think it will be a great fight both of us know this is it, Glen knows it’s his last chance and I know if I lose I will have thrown away 2 years of hard work and I ain’t going to let that happen. There are a lot of people saying that Glen is past his best and all that but I just think Chad was smarter with him last time and used his boxing skills more than standing with him. The styles make for a good fight he is a come forward fighter and I am a counter puncher, so they tend to make good crowd pleasers. I have worked too hard and not cut any corners I will have just too much for him.

He’s obviously a former world champion with bags of experience but a win will set up a world title fight for you. How hungry do you feel for this fight?

Starving, I have trained hard and made the sacrifices of leaving my family, Glen is going to feel how hungry I am on Friday night.

Can you tell us about your team, who is your manager, your trainer and promoter. Also where you are training for this fight?

I train up in the mountains in a place called Lake Arrowhead near Big Bear, at the Talon Boxing camp, it is perfect for getting ready for a fight no distractions, the gym is private so me and my trainer John Tandy (JT) get no distractions, we had Prince Badi and Kris Andrews up here for sparring but I also spar down in LA, either at Goossens, Wildcard or Fortunes and have had quality sparring from people like Edison Miranda as well. JT has been my trainer for 5 fights now and we are undefeated together, he has changed my whole approach to boxing, we work well together and he has got me into the shape I need to be for a fight like this. My managers are Rory Donadio and Greg Cipriano, they have both been like fathers to me and supported me in getting this far both financially and emotionally. Rory brought JT in after the Andrade loss and things have been perfect since then, I have beaten some of the best opponents of my career and am now looking to fight one of the best guys out there and go on to win a major belt, then start collecting them. My promoter is Lou Dibella, who with Rory and Greg quickly got our fight on another card after the Mosley v Berto card was canceled, also new members of my team are the Armstrong Performance and Treament center, they have been looking after me in regard ensuring my body can take the pounding of hard training. I wouldn’t be where I am now without all these guys and I am thankful to have such a great team supporting me.

Your now fighting up at 175 and have done for your last five fights. How much better do you feel fighting at Light Heavyweight than you did in your Super Middleweight?

So much better, I remember when I first met JT he took one look at me and was like how the hell have you been making super middleweight, I was like 196lbs and there was hardly any fat on me, I used to burn down from like 190+ to 168lbs in the last week, now my preparation is much better I have an on site nutritionist Michele Tandy (JT’s Wife) and she starts bringing my weight down slowly from the start of camp, by the end I am only losing 4-5 pounds in the last week and I feel so much stronger. I am 5-0 at light heavy so that tells the story as well.

Can you tell us about your younger days and how it took you into Boxing?

My dad and first trainer Bus (Percy Custus) got me into it, I remember being 7 years old when I first went into the gym, I remember my first sparring session and this bigger kid hit me in the body and I went down and thought to hell with this, but i went back and eventually kicked the kids ass, I had a successful amateur career then went on to turn pro.

Can you tell us about your amateur career what titles you won and what your final record was?

I was 40-7 I won two Golden Gloves 97 & 98 and a lot of Philly State tournaments, I lost to Jeff Lacy in the finals of the nationals in 2000 and turned pro

You just turned 30 which is still young in the Light Heavyweight division with Hopkins, Roy Jones Jnr, Tarver & Johnson all in there 40’s. Do you think that your maturing as a fighter and entering your prime now?

Yes I think I am in my prime now, I think the heavier guys mature a little later, so I am still relatively young in comparison to those guys, those guys have had their time now and now it is guys like myself, Chad, Cloud etc who are going to take over the division.

What goals do you have in Boxing?

To be a world champion, I want all the belts and I want to be remembered as a great, all the best fighters have lost at some point in their careers it is how you come back from those losses that make you a champion, I lost two fights and it was hard, but I made changes in my life and learned from them and never want to feel what it is like to lose ever again. I also promised JT the WBC belt, so after I get the IBF I will be coming for Pascal or whoever the champion may be then.

Who was your hero growing up?

Evander Holyfield, he was and still is a true warrior

Who is your toughest opponent that you’ve fought so far in either the pro’s or amateur’s?

People may be surprised by this but I think Richie Grant when I was fighting for the USBA at super middleweight, I have fought all my best opponents at light heavyweight Chris Henry and guys like that but I was in great shape for those fights, I fought Henry pretty much with one arm after dislocating my elbow in the 2nd round, my trainer actually clicked it back in between rounds, so that was a tough fight, but Grant was very awkward and no matter what I hit him with he kept coming.

Finally do you have a message for Glen Johnson ahead of your fight with him?

I am coming for you Glen you better be in shape and you better not be looking past me or you will get a big shock, you haven’t seen a fighter like me before I respect you and I have always liked you as a fighter and I am sorry that it has to be me that ends you career, you have had you time at the top, move aside the Mack Attack is coming.

Good luck on the 5 February Yusaf.

Thanks appreciated, make sure you tune in

HOUSE BOOSTS FUNDS TO FIGHT ASIAN LONGHORNED BEETLE

US Fed News Service, Including US State News July 15, 2009 NEW YORK, July 12 — Rep. Anthony D. Weiner, D-N.Y. (9th CD), issued the following news release:

This past week the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation authored by Representative Anthony Weiner (D-Brooklyn and Queens) boosting funds to fight Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB) to $35 million. Approximately $23 million will go to New York City to fight against the large, extremely destructive insect which has infested and killed over 4,300 trees since its 1996 discovery in New York. The funds were included in the agriculture appropriations bill, which will boost beetle eradication efforts nationwide by seventy-five percent from last year’s funding. The level of funding for New York City is based on what the City has historically received.

The new commitment to fight ALB comes after Rep. Weiner led efforts calling for full funding to aid eradication efforts after years of cuts by the Bush administration. From 2001 to 2009, the Bush Administration cut money to fight ALB in New York City by more than $30 million-from $45 million to under $15 million. site asian longhorned beetle

The Asian Longhorned Beetle is an insect from China that destroys hardwood trees by disrupting the flow of nutrients and water through the trunk, roots, and stem. The ALB now has a presence in all boroughs except the Bronx, with 47% of the City’s trees at risk to the destructive pest. In addition to New York City, the beetle has been found in Long Island, New Jersey, Chicago, California and Worchester, MA.

The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-Forestry) is working on new pheromone-based traps that will reduce the need to remove infected trees in order to fight infestation. Rep. Weiner was instrumental in securing a trap demonstration project for New York City. The agriculture appropriations bill includes $500,000 to fund 6 new trap demonstration projects around New York State. website asian longhorned beetle

Rep. Weiner said, “In New York City’s battle against the beetle, President Bush stood with the bugs. We saw a clear pattern – less money and more beetles. This funding boost will go a long way to ensuring that trees will still grow in all five boroughs.” “The Asian Longhorned Beetle is the most serious insect threat the city has ever faced – one that left unchecked could kill half of the City’s trees, even as we plant one million more under the MillionTreesNYC initiative” said Parks & Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe. “The beetle lays eggs in, bores into, feeds on, and ultimately kills otherwise healthy hardwood trees. I applaud the House for passing this bill and hope that the infusion of additional funds going forward will eradicate ALB from our city and other infested areas and safeguard our landscape and ecological health. If it is not stopped here it could spread to upstate New York and into New England where it could devastate the Maple sugar industry.” In 1996, the first Asian Long Horned beetles in the United States were found in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. From 2001 to the present, the United States Department of the Agriculture has spent more than $268 million to fight the tree-eating scourge, which has since spread to Queens, Manhattan, Staten Island, Long Island, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Illinois.

Mack – Johnson Elimination bout rescheduled for Feb. 5 in Miami

After Shane Mosley and Andre Berto had their bout canceled for next Saturday night in Las Vegas, a solid undercard was also postponed but one of the main fights has found a home as Yusaf Mack will now battle Glen Johnson in an IBF Light Heavyweight elimination bout on February 5th in Miami in a bout that will be televised by ESPN 2.

Mack 25-2-2 with seventeen knockouts of Philadelphia will be looking to secure a title shot but the former champion Johnson, 49-13-2 with thirty-three knockouts will be standing in his way in front of Johnson’s adopted hometwon fans in Miami.

When reached for comment, Mack’s co-manager Rory Donadio told 15rounds.com, “Team Mack want’s to thank (ESPN Boxing Czar) Doug Loughary for pulling a rabbit out of his hat to make this fight possible”
